Dear KMAG: 04052020 Open Topic

Praise the Lord Anyway!

Your enemies have mocked me, O LORD; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes. Praise the LORD forever!  Amen and amen! (Psalm 89:51-52)

It’s easy to praise God when life is good. It’s a gorgeous spring day . . . praise the Lord! I just got a raise . . . praise the Lord! My doctor gave me a clean bill of health . . . praise the Lord! I got an “A”‘ on my final exam . . . praise the Lord!

But what about when life isn’t good? The wind chill factor today is minus 25 degrees . . . praise the Lord? I just lost my job . . . praise the Lord? My doctor says it’s cancer . . . praise the Lord? I’m going to fail that class . . . praise the Lord?

Psalm 89 exemplifies praising God when life is hard, praising God anyway. This psalm begins by singing of God’s unfailing love (89:1-2). Moreover, all of heaven will praise God’s great wonders (89:5). God’s faithfulness to his people is a cause for rejoicing (89:9). This faithfulness is centered in God’s covenant with David and his promise that David’s dynasty will go on forever (89:19-37). But then Psalm 89 takes a dark turn, even accusing God of renouncing his covenant with David (89:39). The psalmist cries out, “O LORD, how long will this go on? Will you hide yourself forever?” (89:46). The penultimate verse of Psalm 89 laments, “Your enemies have mocked me, O LORD; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes” (89:51).

But then comes the startling conclusion: “Praise the LORD forever! Amen and amen!” What? Praise the Lord who has allowed his people to suffer, who has strengthened the enemies of Israel, whose unfailing love seems to have disappeared? Praise this Lord? Now?

Yes, that’s where Psalm 89 leaves us, without explanation, without apology. Yes, there is an unresolved tension here, something that can’t be rationalized away. The psalmist shows unsettling freedom in his protest against God, even accusing God of breaking his promises. Yet, he ends on a note of praise, and not just praise, but eternal praise. In the midst of pain and suffering, praise the Lord! When you can’t figure out what God is doing, praise the Lord! When God feels very distant, praise the Lord!

I’m not suggesting that this is easy to do. In fact, I find this to be exceptionally difficult. Thus, I am challenged by today’s psalm to do what does not come naturally, to praise the Lord at all times, to praise the Lord anyway.

Praising God anyway, when we’re in the midst of difficult times needs a little context to be seen from the correct perspective.

While we were yet sinners, God showed His love for us by giving His Son, Jesus, to bear our sins as He died on the cross. Jesus’ death reconciled man’s sin and sinful nature with the holiness of God. To partake of that reconciliation, we must put our trust in Jesus as our Savior . . . not by our works, but even to those who believe on His name.

We were less than nothing and have been given everything.

So, back to praising God even in difficult times. That’s a bit like walking along and stubbing your toe, quite painfully I might add, and just when you’re ready to complain to God about it, you see that you’ve stubbed your toe on the marble steps leading up and into the grandest mansion the world has ever seen . . . a mansion that God has just given to you.

And that comparison utterly fails when we really think about what wretched worms we were in God’s eyes, and then the enormous sacrifice God made to be able to adopt us into His family as His sons and daughters.

Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me . . .

So, when events take a nasty turn for us during our short time down here, perhaps we can do a bit better about praising God anyway, in view of our riches for eternity up there with God.

This is a general announcement.
I have decided that I’m going to turn The U Tree into a weapon of war against the CCP. My dear profanity will be following me over there for our “basic training” activities.
Nebraska Filly is now allowed to post THERE.
It is my hope that we will create a new, tight, and highly purposed community there, which will concentrate on one purpose and one purpose only – the utter destruction of the CCP. Yeah, some Democrat traitors may get hurt in the process, but so be it.
Expect a lot of F bombs there. It is NOT going to be a nice place. But it may be a lot of fun.

Thank you for this timely opening post, bakocarl. I was particularly struck by this (emphasis mine):
“The psalmist shows unsettling freedom in his protest against God, even accusing God of breaking his promises. Yet, he ends on a note of praise, and not just praise, but eternal praise. In the midst of pain and suffering, praise the Lord! When you can’t figure out what God is doing, praise the Lord! When God feels very distant, praise the Lord!”
This was also brought home to me yesterday (I think) in one of duchess’ postings of Scripture:
Psalm 24:1 – The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
It is His world. We belong to Him, and we are not promised a perfect, stress-free life in this fallen world. We aren’t even promised that our plans will come to fruition. But we are promised eternal life under certain conditions. For that alone, He is worthy of praise.

Since this should all die down by Corpus Christi, I say we do up the outdoor processions and shrines and litanies BIG TIME even if it’s going to be stinkin’ hot by then. I mean, it’s June 14 this year. For those who aren’t Catholic, that’s the day we take the Monstrance with the Pyx, okay, the pastor carries it, under a canopy and hit the streets singing and processing complete with the red torches, and incense. Of late, priests all over have been doing this without the big processions, but on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood, Corpus Christi, it’s done with great celebration.

Deplorable Patriot

Want to know what one of the goals here is? Gates lets the cat out of the bag. I suspected this a few years back. The demons – and I’m talking about actual demons – have an agenda. I know people who aren’t Catholic aren’t going to buy it, but I’ve long thought destruction of the Church was the ultimate goal. Why us?
Found at:
https://fromrome.info/2020/04/05/bill-gates-my-corona-stunt-requires-18-months-of-control-then-mandatory-vaccination/

Quote from the From Rome author:
Ominously, at 17:40 in this Video, Bill Gates implies that the Catholic Religion will remain outlawed until all can be certified to have received a vaccine, if even then!
He is talking about suspending the Mass for 18 months or forever!

GA/FL

Gates has developed a severe case of megalomania – an exalted sense of self-important. All that money and power has made him sick.

Deplorable Patriot

Yes, but I think this was the ultimate goal all along, even as far back at the Great Schism or it wouldn’t have happened. Definitely since the 13th century.

GA/FL

I don’t see the relationship – the split between the eastern and western church was about theology, geographical distance and power. The Filioque was one excuse, but it was deeper…. leaders jealousy?
I have read that the Western/Romans hired mercenaries to storm Constantinople.
Plenty of evil done in the name of the LORD and HIS CHURCH over the centuries, even today.

Deplorable Patriot

It’s about Christ being really present in the Eucharist. Like I said, people who aren’t Catholic aren’t going to buy it. I know that. When then Schism happened, the East has not had a single case of Stigmata since.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA
SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Wow that comment certainly didn’t go as planned.

I have read that the Western/Romans hired mercenaries to storm Constantinople.

The Fourth Crusade, in 1204. It began in 1202 with the plan to liberate Jerusalem. The next year while on their way to the Levant, the crusaders found themselves out of money; they beseiged a Catholic city, got excommunicated (duh!) for that, then hired themselves out to Alexios, a claimant to the Byzantine throne. They were able to put him on the throne, but then Alexios got overthrown and most of the payments he had promised never materialized. So they sacked Constantinople.
Only a handful of the crusaders went on to do their original mission in the Holy Land.
The Crusades in general, except for the first one, were absolute CFs.

GA/FL

I think the Roman church hired some Saracens to sack Constantinople? It was ugly.
I honestly think the Muslims are stuck in that religious violence mode…..doing what the Romans did to Jesus and what Church was doing to its own people back then – burning, beheading, drawing and quartering, crucifixion, and all the raping, pillaging….

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I have no idea about the Saracens (which doesn’t mean it’s not true–I don’t, unfortunately, have the time to pick through what would have to be eight centuries of history…but I’d have to guess that was later.
Constantinople had some SERIOUS defenses, both natural and man made, the natural positioning is why Constantine picked that location for his capital. In 413, Theodosius built the 60 foot triple wall, and they were not breached until gunpowder.
After the sack in 1204, a “Latin Empire” was set up that lasted until 1261; with catholics in charge of the place. (It must have been their wet dream at the time.)

GA/FL

Things started going way south in the church when Constantine decided to make it over into his image and idea of power structure and standardization of theology – he made it a punitive, power structured organization.

Deplorable Patriot

Constantine did nothing of the sort. Things started going south, as you put it, when Christ challenged the people managing the Temple when he was 12.

rayzorbak

Things started going south when Eve ate the fruit.

Teagan

Exactly what I read…really started as far back as the Druids in what is known know as Great Britain…Constantine even usurped many of the same Druid holidays. It was always about power and politics.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

It wasn’t just Druid holidays. In fact many Roman holidays got hijacked as well.
There’s no evidence whatsoever that Jesus was born in December, much less December 25 (and I’ve even had very fundamentalist pastors tell me that, so it’s not some sort of atheist propaganda). In fact what little is in the Gospels points to a totally different time of year (indirectly)–I don’t remember whether it was spring or early fall, and on my bandwidth right now I’m not going to go hunt. But December 25 was on or near a couple major Roman holidays (Dies natali Solus Invicti, the day of the birth of the unconquered Sun, became a part of the Roman pantheon on that date in 274); more traditionally it was part of Saturnalia, so guess what?
Many cultures celebrated the Winter Solstice (I know next to nothing about the Druids, but I can’t imagine they didn’t) so it was a way of hitting a whole flock of birds with one stone.

Deplorable Patriot

I posted this on the CoronaVirus thread this morning in response to a post from Sadie, I think, who linked up a piece talking about Gates wanting the ID vaccine, and getting IDs. The more I think about it…I think the 40,000 foot view is giving us what the plan was to destroy the USA:
Alright, this probably belongs on the Open Thread, but I’m getting the distinct impression that what we are seeing play out was/is the plan that was scheduled to take place as it is now with Hillary at the helm, and zero centralized planning as the Trump team is putting together.
Just the way Bill Gates is inserting himself into the public discussion, as if he was the replacement for David Rockefeller in the food chain, tells me that this was laid out in a battle plan long ago, and the left did not know what else to do once the brain trust died.
If there was a plan laid out, and I’m POSITIVE there is one, then the Q team would have it. They know what the fear mongering steps were/are, they know the mass chaos that was supposed to ensue when supplies weren’t available. Just imagine if it had happened with the economy in shambles as would have happened with four more years of Obamanomics. The Hunger Games would NOT have been fiction. Dystopia would have been our lifestyle.
This was to be the beginning of the people BEGGING for a one world government that the one worlders have been promising the people would want for at least the last century.
Think about it: suspension of freedoms, essential confinement of the people, suppression of the Church at the most sacred seasons of the Church year, vaccine push for ID, push for mail in voting which would make elections moot for all the reasons that have been outlined here.
THIS was the left’s plan to finish off the country mind, body and soul.
They let it play out despite Trump being at the helm thinking it would finish him as a politician.
They underestimated his resolve, and that of the American people.
They also underestimated the potency of the chosen virus.
Now, the question is who knew of the plan and is a part of it.

Teagan

Good food for thought….I sincerely hope we learn the answer to your final sentence. I do not care who it is, how shocked we will be…I think it’s time for answers. If we Americans are as resilient as claimed…we will get over it.

para59r

They also seem to miss the point that if not for Trump we’d be at their throat.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Except that…they didn’t–and don’t–look upon this as the event that would back us into a corner, but rather as the event that would get us to admit we were wrong. In their minds it’s PURELY a matter of social constraint that keeps most of us mouthing conservative platitudes; deep down we know they are right.
Putting us in a crisis would give us the reason, finally, to cast all that off and be what we’ve wanted to be all along, but were afraid to say so.
The Leftist is incapable of imagining that we really believe what we believe. We must be saying what we say because of either social pressure…or greedy exploitative self-interest. They imagine our leadership as being like the spokesmen Big Tobacco sent to Congress to argue that smoking doesn’t kill people, lying for the sake of filthy lucre…and the rest of us as sheep following the herd.

It seems as though most people have forgotten the 1957 pandemic, H2N2 Asian flu. More deadly but milder than the 1918 Pandemic. Approximately 70,000 people died. The biggest difference in previous pandemics is that there was no closing businesses and no social distancing. Each person was on their own to keep out of harms way – the way I recall.
The WuFlu very much reminds me of the measles. The same symptoms with the exception of the rash that is associated with the measles right down to the pneumonia like symptom. I wonder if that is why the original test for WuFlu gave so many false results?

duchess01

Did not know anything about the H2N2 Asian Flu – the WuFlu is horrible – the shortness of breath – fever – sore throat – cough that never goes away – dunno what the symptoms of the Asia Flu are –
People died because there was no intervention – no studies – no assistance – no press – seems to me – they got the desired affect – to kill people – much the same as with the drug trade – alcohol – and STDs – human trafficking – the enemy is good at it – imho
As far as what we are doing now – there is more to do with this virus than meets the eye – it could be a bioweapon – an attack on our country and other countries around the world – and I do not think the enemy got the desired effect – worldwide – people fought back – against a hidden enemy – if the enemy could not affect a war to kill millions – this was their new method of warfare –
To think this was planned should tell all.

Linda K Harrison

I agree too that the WuFlu is designed as a bioweapon. I was wondering if the WuFlu was designed with the measles as a background since the symptoms for the WuFlu and the measles are almost identical. The WuFlu does not have a rash, at least not that I have heard of.
I guess the Chinese have been practicing on us for a long time.

One Thing Of Which We Can Be Certain; When Given A Range Of Options, California Always Chooses The Worst One

Instead, Mayor London Breed and the Human Services Agency came up with the plan to route over 3,000 people currently living in shelters and navigation centers into hotels. The city is planning to put thousands of physically and psychologically sick people into private hotel rooms, in some of the most luxurious hotels in San Francisco—the InterContinental, Mark Hopkins, and The Palace. Occupants would receive three meals per day, hygiene products, and access to nurses.

gil00

All over ca that is what they are doing. They are taking the concentration of these people and spreading them everywhere.
If they want to do good, they should move all of them into large outdoor militsry style tent camps in the desert. Warm, dry, abundant space, plenty of room to triage all of them, safely separate, treat, and house.
There is zero, and i mean zero reason to put people in hotels.
These hotels will be destroyed, its a guaranteed outcome.

April 03, 2020
U.S. Attorney John Durham’s review of the Russia investigation is putting increased scrutiny on former CIA Director John Brennan, searching for any undue influence he may have had during 2017’s intelligence community assessment of Russian interference.
Durham, selected by Attorney General William Barr last year to lead this inquiry, drove to Washington, D.C., in March to ensure the investigation stayed on track during the coronavirus outbreak.
The top Connecticut federal prosecutor is looking into highly sensitive issues, including whether Brennan took politicized actions to pressure the rest of the intelligence community to match his conclusions about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s motivations, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal.
Officials said Durham has been interviewing CIA officials this year, zeroing in on those at the National Intelligence Council, a center within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence which oversaw the collaboration between the CIA, FBI, and National Security Agency in putting together the 2017 assessment, and looking at how the work product was finalized.
Durham is also reportedly reviewing Brennan’s handling of a secret source said to be close to the Kremlin. The prosecutor wants to know what role that person’s information played in the assessment.
Durham is also scrutinizing Brennan in relation to British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s dossier. In particular, the prosecutor is looking for answers on whether it was used in the 2017 assessment, why former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe insisted upon it being part of the assessment, how allegations from the dossier ended up in the assessment’s appendix, and whether Brennan misled about the dossier’s use.
The Wall Street Journal reported that sources said United Kingdom authorities refused Durham’s request to interview Steele. The former MI6 agent also declined Durham’s request to speak, saying he and his business had already “done our duty” by cooperating with DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s investigation into alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses, which found glaring flaws with Steele’s dossier and the way the FBI used it to obtain warrants to wiretap Trump campaign associate Carter Page.
“I stand by the integrity of our work, our sources, and what we did,” Steele told Oxford Union students last month.comment image

The Judge—Heritage Brief 13
by Rick Joyner
Although it will take some radical solutions to get our Federal Government back on track and reconnected again to its constitutional moorings, we have an amazingly strong and resilient foundation to work with. We must never think it is not possible. If the U.S. Navy CB’s have the motto: “The difficult we do immediately, but the impossible may take a little longer,” how much more should we, who serve a God for whom nothing is impossible, believe this?
Judicial tyranny may presently be the greatest threat to the Republic, but no republic can survive without a strong, independent judiciary devoted to justice. Even though we may have suffered much from wayward judges and courts, most have not gone awry, have stayed within their lane and doing a great service to the country.
One of the first ways that the Founders saw as an inroad for the corruption of the judiciary was for judges, including Supreme Court justices, to have lifetime appointments. They believed that no government official should ever be exempt from accountability, and nothing likely can shield one from accountability like a lifetime appointment.
When this wisdom was disregarded and lifetime appointments for certain seats were given, they were intended to enable judges to rise above political pressure to stay focused on justice. Lifetime appointments may have seemed like a good remedy for this, but it did not work. Now our judicial system is as politicized as the rest of the government.
Every major departure like this from The Constitution has only created worse problems than the ones they were devised to fix. That being said, it seems reasonable that judges and justices should have long enough terms to at least allay some of the pressures of politics that can pervert justice. It could be helpful to have the renewal of their terms close to automatic, but there needs to be some ongoing evaluation and accountability for their performance and compliance with the law and The Constitution. Those who would protest the most at having their lifetime appointment removed should probably be the first to be removed. To be a judge is a high calling, and we obviously want those who are above reproach in the courts.
Our Founders feared the tyranny of the mob as much as they feared the tyranny of a king. The same crowd that welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem declaring “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” were crying “Crucify Him!” just five days later. The Founders were devoted to establishing a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, but also one that could ride out the wild swings of public opinion. These swings can create a social turbulence that tears a nation apart.
Democracies are where the majority rules. Republics are where the people vote for representatives that rule on their behalf. The representatives ideally will not just try to please public opinion, which can so wildly swing from one extreme to the opposite extreme, but rather do what is best for the whole country. This is why our Founders formed a constitutional republic, not a democracy as many wrongly presume.
As John Adams noted, no democracy had survived more than a short time before committing suicide. As he also wrote, “A democracy is like two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.” Under pure democracies, the rights of minorities tend to get ignored or trampled upon. To ultimately be a nation of “justice for all,” the Founders knew we had to be a constitutional republic where The Constitution was “the supreme law of the land.”
All three branches of government have been prone to infringe on the authority given to the other branches, as well as the authority given to the states and the people. The military calls this “mission creep”—when a commander starts adding to their specific assignment. When this happens, very often the original assignment gets muddled and sometimes forgotten. This has happened in our Federal Government. It has taken on many purposes that are beyond its constitutional authority.
To remedy this, we must recover the fact that The Constitution was written to assign specific authority to the Federal Government and forever limit it to what was specifically given to it in order to preserve the authority of the states and the people. Therefore, the assignment of any purpose to the Federal Government not specifically named in The Constitution is a violation of The Constitution. A main purpose of The Constitution was to limit the authority of the Federal Government in order to keep it from becoming what it has now become.
To bring the needed correction to restore the constitutional boundaries of the Federal Government, it would be much better for the three branches of it to be self-correcting. This would require champions of The Constitution to arise in each one to get our government back on the rails. This is still possible. Yet, with every day that passes without the self-correction, the likelihood of it becomes more remote. Therefore, the likely source of change will be from the states and the people.

I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power. –Thomas Jefferson

The Founding Fathers were concerned with the moral principles of the American people more than any other attribute. They were confident their countrymen would always be brave and industrious, but they feared a future decline in their moral character. This fear probably arose from what was known about previous democratic governments. The democracies of the ancient world had fallen apart due largely to a decline in the virtue of their citizens, the people’s loss of interest in their voice in governmental decisions, or a lust for power by their leaders. The Founding Fathers believed that if the American people would remain honest, be attentive to their responsibilities as citizens, eschew personal fame and power, and love God, then America would remain a strong force for freedom and hope in the world. —Gordon Leidner

David Spade was on Saturday Night Live first I heard of him. Not one of the funnier monkeys in the barrel, not that SNL was all that funny after the late 80s.

ForGodandCountry

As mentioned previously…
If subT combat was, in fact, taking place, there would most def. be US Mil casualties. 100% guaranteed.
Meanwhile….
As far as I can determine, there have been no reports of mass casualties of the kind which would be expected in such a situation. Moreover, word WOULD get out as families of the fallen were notified, funerls conducted, etc.
Reconcile that.

ForGodandCountry

PS – even the deaths of “special operators” (ie. Navy SEALs) on HIGHLY classified missions are reported to family members right away.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Reconcile that.

They can’t.
And if this isn’t enough see my reply below, about the geothermal gradient.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

40000 feet down?
Really?
That’s ludicrous, and here’s why:
Every mile down, the temperature increases by 72-87 degrees F. This continues down to a depth of about 250 miles, then the gradient gets less steep.
40000 feet is over seven miles.
Tunnels seven deep would be at around 500-600 F and would be about as habitable as your oven (turned on).
I say again, LUDICROUS!!!!

ForGodandCountry

Speaking to your point…
QUOTE:
“AngloGold Ashanti’s Mponeng gold mine, located south-west of Johannesburg in South Africa, is currently the deepest mine in the world. The operating depth at Mponeng mine ranged from between 3.16km to 3.84km below the surface by the end of 2018.”

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

But also:
QUOTE:
The temperature of the rock reaches 66 °C (151 °F), and the mine pumps slurry ice underground to cool the tunnel air to below 30 °C (86 °F).[1] A mixture of concrete, water, and rock is packed into excavated areas, which further acts as an insulator.[1] Tunnel walls are secured by flexible shotcrete reinforced with steel fibers, which is further held in place by diamond-mesh netting.[1]
END QUOTE.
That’s a lot of effort to go through, but it’s one of the world’s best gold mines so it pays.
40000 feet is over ten kilometers. This mine, though impressive…is a far cry from this ludicrous claim.
And… 3.84 km = roughly 2.39 miles. Applying that to the 72-87 degree fahrenheit gradient, the mine ought to be 172-208 degrees above whatever it is underground just below ground level–call that about seventy degrees.
Although this mine is quite a bit cooler than the gradient numbers I quoted above would cause one to expect–still, multiply it by about three to see where you’d be at 40,000 feet below the surface.
The deepest (officially acknowledged) borehole–just a hole for a drill, not something deep enough for people to go down–is in the 42,000 foot range. The temperature at the bottom of that was 356 F.
Believing in a huge network of tunnels at 40,000 feet down requires that one believe someone has VASTLY better tech for drilling long tunnels than is publicized–as in decades ahead–and that the people using this tech would never have used it for other purposes closer to the surface (for say, the utility companies they often own). And the energy budget to keep the things cooled enough to not be ovens would be enormous; again that would be energy they could put to more productive use.
Imagine if someone were to suggest to you that someone owns a 747-sized aircraft that can fly (take off, land, all that stuff you know quite well), even with the fuselage filled entirely, top to bottom, port to starboard, fore to aft (exclude the cabin) with lead shot. To say nothing of how much the structure would have to be beefed up to keep the plane from collapsing under its own weight…imagine the engines!!! Oh, but the engine tech is kept secret! Never mind the fact that someone could make a killing putting smaller engines on regular aircraft with that tech.
You’d probably say LUDICROUS.
And so with this network of tunnels nearly eight miles down…I say, LUDICROUS.

Chimpy

Additionally, water in the surrounding porous rock formations at that depth would be at hydrostatic pressure around 20,000 pounds per square inch (psi). The walls of the tunnels would need to be thick steel and extremely leak proof in order to keep the soldiers dry and from being compressed into organic mush.
Any pinhole leak would instantly become a jet of super heated steam that would be capable of cutting through steel if close enough. Additionally, the hot steam would quickly decompress and cause massive volumes of hot lower pressure steam to fill the tunnel for miles pushing anything in front of it at high speeds.
This is one conspiracy that I don’t subscribe to.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Much of the internet hullabaloo over this has assumed a network MUCH closer to the surface. I think this deep stuff just came about because there have been earthquakes at that depth recently and people are hoping that “rods from god” are somehow smashing through eight miles of rock without any sign of it on the surface.
The near-surface tunnels (hell even 1000 feet down isn’t ridiculous) are more plausible but still stretch credulity–tunnels are expensive, and building tunnels thousands of miles long would be daunting.
But my biggest issue with this not-as-ludicrous case is that there’s literally no sauce for any of it. It’s just being quoted endlessly, like the YSM did with Russian Collusion off a fake dossier.

michaelh

I’d love to say more but I’m trying to stay out of the middle of it. Some of the things on the internet about this are just plain DUMB. But it does make for great sci-fi reading!

Valerie Curren

DUMB is funny given D.U.M.B.!

Chimpy

Thanks for clarifying, Steve.
But, I wonder: When these 1000-foot-down soldiers drill their tunnels all the way to the end of the flat Earth, do they just fall out?
😜

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Actually that’s a pretty funny question, right there.
Someone did a video explaining what, given gravitational theory, it would be like walking towards the edge of a “flat” earth. You’d actually find yourself climbing up a slope as you got closer to the edge. Not because it’s a bowl, but because gravity would “point” towards the center of the disk, i.e., at a slant to the plane of the surface. Water, for instance would want to pool in the center of the face of the disk.
This doesn’t happen here on earth–so advocating a flat earth model is equivalent to denying Newtonian (and Einsteinian) gravitation is accurate.

Chimpy

That’s an excellent point, Steve. I had never thought about that.
And the more massive or dense this hypothetical Flat Earth is, the more “uphill” one would have to walk to get to the end!
Take this to the extreme (imagine multiple massive Jupiters that are just below the fusion threshold), and one could never get to the end. Can it wrap on itself, essentially become round?

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Well if one thinks about it…on this flat earth, there’d be enormous pressure those edges would put enormous pressure onto the stuff just inside the edge, which in turn would put even more pressure on what’s closer to the center from that–the combined weight of everything further out.
What would happen is somewhere down the line, the rock would collapse under all that weight and…wow, you’d eventually end up with a sphere of debris.
Which isn’t all that bad a description of what the Earth was like when it was formed!

Chimpy

Funny how that works, eh, Steve? 🤔

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Yep.
It’s almost as if large things just automatically end up being round or something.
Indeed, that factor ended up being useful in some of the definitions of certain classes of bodies, that astronomers finally came up with fairly recently.

Chimpy

Along the lines of this conversation, I thought of this old YouTube demo by a teacher showing students a cool way to visualize gravity. I am sure that Steve has already seen this, but thought that other readers likely haven’t. Very recommended and fun to watch!
Note that about halfway through, he demos why all the planets are circling the sun in the same direction? Was this the hand of God, or a result of something else?
Back to the “how flat disks tend to self-destruct into spheres” thread, this is yet another example of how systems trend to their lowest potential energy level. A sphere (I.e. droplet of water dealing with high surface tension forces, nuclei dealing with the strong force, celestial bodies and collection of bodies (E.g. galaxies) dealing with gravity, shock waves dealing with pressure pulses, etc.) is always the shape that achieves that minimization.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Haven’t seen that video but sounds like a good one!

Chimpy

Oops, here is the link to that YouTube:

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

That was fun–“What do you think? I’m repairing the fabric of space time!”

Valerie Curren

There’s a tweet that says that the 40,000 ft divides into a specific # of miles & that # of Kilometers is the exact depth of multiple earthquakes…so it would be sort of a code/clue to get from 40,000 to 7.57 (or whatever that exact number is)…I couldn’t find the tweet easily…sorry…here it is..
https://twitter.com/Mareq017/status/1246878748579954688

kalbokalbs

Didn’t read the article….
Stopped at the breath taking discrepancy quoted below.
“40,000ft = 7.57 miles
These are all 7.57 kilometres”
.
.
The ONLY thing the above two lines have in common are 7.57.
7.57 kilometers is 24,736 feet. ONLY, 15,264 feet shy of 40,000 feet.
Surely I have missed something. But, probably nothing of value.

No wonder there are so many reports of hospitals with little activities:
Tracking site suggests White House model is overestimating coronavirus hospitalizations

……
Yet a comparison of actual hospitalized patients by state and nationally suggests the model has so far overestimated the number of beds needed to treat pandemic patients.
The forecast predicted, for example, that the United States would need around 164,750 hospital beds for COVID-19 patients on Saturday. Yet the COVID Tracking Project, a team of journalists and data analysts who collect and tabulate coronavirus data from state tallies around the country, reported only around 22,158 currently hospitalized coronavirus patients nationwide on Saturday.
