Yucca grows extensively in the open foothills in my part of Colorado. It is gorgeous when in bloom and the rest of the season is a nice textural contrast to the many native grasses. i wasn’t aware of the specific moth pollinator!
We also have prickly pear cactus here ‘n there, and spotting its yellow or pink spring blossoms are – for me – rather like the joy of spotting an Easter egg during the hunt because the cactus tend to nestle in among the grasses so easily missed if you aren’t ‘nature seeking’.

The most beautiful aroma I ever smelled is from yucca. But not just any old yucca.
In the Bouquet Canyon and Soledad Canyon areas just NE of Newhall/Saugus is the only place I’ve found in California that has that particular yucca.
If you have the opportunity to visit that area during yucca flowering season, you should spare no expense to do so. I promise you won’t regret it.
I briefly lived in Bouquet Canyon, and we used Bouquet Canyon Stone to make paths in our garden.
In my drinking days, I hung out at the Falls Cafe. It’s at a Forest Service campground on Bouquet Canyon Rd.
I once took a bath under the falls. Just to say I’d done it.

My dad & I climbed up on a large rock directly below a waterfall cascade along a roadside on an East Coast trip. We had to hold each other up under the force of all that water but it was an adventurous experience that was one the highlights, for me, of that vacation. 1) there are local residents, presumably people who lived there before SpaceX bought the land
2) not everyone who lives there is a SpaceX employee
If everyone who lived there was a SpaceX employee and there were no locals, then maybe you could argue that the town is basically a barracks for SpaceX employees.
But that’s not the case.
So suppose someone who was not a ‘local resident’ before the town was created shows up, who is also not an employee of SpaceX, and wants to lease a home in the Incorporated town of Starbase.
If they have the money to lease a home, how does the town of Starbase prevent the owner (or trust) from leasing the property to the newcomer?
Or how does Starbase prevent the newcomer from leasing any home in the town of Starbase?
Without running afoul of all sorts of civil rights and fair housing and equality and discrimination laws?
Seems like if this concept was legally permissible, people would immediately use it to set up exclusive segregated communities — which is far more natural than multiculturalism.
Plenty of title deeds have covenants. That’s where you put your restrictions. Plus, only members can access amenities so who would want to lease a home where you only get to watch others using parks and fishing docks [for example]?
Sure, but you can’t structure a trust or a title deed to discriminate, or every community in America would be set up along similar lines, and every group would live among their own kind, out of concern for their own safety and preserving their own ways of life.
I remember years ago, when I was in training to be a real estate agent, the realtor who was training us was hyper concerned about all the different ways we could get the office in big trouble, and that gov’t agents were undercover trying to entrap us.
And the reason it was so easy is because legitimate home buyers often ask to live around their own people.
If she had a Hispanic couple looking to move in from some other part of the country, they might ask to be shown houses in the Hispanic area of town.
And you can’t do that, we were taught to not even acknowledge the request, but to just start talking about something else, change the subject immediately, that’s how scared they were about it 😂
Made absolutely no sense to me. If a client says “I want to live in the Hispanic part of town, that’s where I want to buy my house”, then why would I show them houses everywhere except the Hispanic part of town?
But that’s what we were told to do.
Everything was like that. Like a Matrix of political-correctness, where everything we were being taught was how not to get sued.
That’s all we learned.
Meeting after meeting, class after class, page after page, going over legal codes and statutes that nobody was ever going to remember, but the realtor was doing CYA because at least she could say she warned us, so when we did get sued, we would get sued personally, and not the realtor.
After several months of this insanity, and working the phones for free several days a week, and paying into the realtor’s office insurance pool, and never being taught a single thing about how to actually sell a house and put a dollar in my pocket, I realized selling real estate wasn’t for me.
I’m just not politically-correct enough. Or at all.
If a buyer wants to see a house in the Irish part of town, or the black part of town, or the white part of town, or the Jewish part of town, or the Italian part of town, or the Asian part of town, or the Hispanic part of town, because that’s where they want to live, why would I show them houses where they don’t want to live?

Good continuation of the subject had the other day on EMF/RF exposure (that cell phone by the bed) and what you should be aware of and some of what you can do about it. Faraday cages aren’t terribly difficult. One merely has to keep in mind the wavelengths associated with the frequencies involved. Short wavelengths need small gaps to pass, so the Faraday cage needs to become more and more airtight.
Speaking of which, here is a picture of the latest version of a Raspberry Pi single-board computer. At the upper left, there is a flat silver box next to the screw-hole and I/O pins. That’s a Faraday cage for all the wi-fi and bluetooth goodies, so they have clean signal outside and clean data onto the circuit board.

I have been posting that there is a duel purpose for the military zone. One is obvious to keep the criminal invaders out. Check.
The most pressing is to keep the real criminals in until they are captured and processed. The nasties go to El Salvador. The rest get deported to their native lands. Meanwhile, during processing we get all of their DNA, fingerprints, medical history, family links, criminal/cartel links, foreign government involvement, monetary/drug connections including those here in America, etc. before deportation. If they refuse, they go to El Salvador with the rest of the dregs.
The illegal aliens who are not part of the criminal elements are being allowed to self deport – for a time. Get their affairs in order, then leave. That window will close at some point before the midterms. They will then go into the column above.
GITMO is saved for the military tribunals. Alcatraz (symbol to the world) and other max security is saved for the native grown criminals connected to the international crime rings.

I received a Catholic baptism. It’s a long ceremony, daubing Holy Water all over, all in Latin. DePat would state that last bit with a totally serious belief that it was true. And for some reason I tend to understand that it’s true, without understanding why. The Orthodox Christian church does the rite in a similar way.
BTW, in the Catholic church, during Easter Vigil each year, everyone is led in a prayer affirming their faith and renouncing satan and his works, and then gets holy water tossed on them as a group. Easter Vigil, while it lasts for hours, is my favorite celebration of the church’s liturgy.

When I was at USC, some of us from the USC Concert Choir and Chamber Singers sang with the choir of St. Sophia’s Cathedral in LA Rachmaninov’s “All Night Vigil” (aka Vespers), conducted by Alex Ruggeri, one of the leading authorities of Russian Church music in the west (and also a great conductor and musician).
Our performance was recorded on Angel/Melodiya records, but I can’t find it online ( 🙁 )…. being almost 50 years ago, I rather expect the internet didn’t notice it; yet it was the first performance of this wonderful work in English in the Western Hemisphere…
Here is the work performed in the original (i.e. Russian). Those who look at Russia as a non-Christian, heathen, or otherwise bad state/society have NO CLUE.
At our rehearsals (I was also one of the rehearsal pianists) the Russian choir members and their spouses would bring desserts and other things… absolutely wonderful. And then (again, being a rehearsal pianist), I had the fun of walking the basses down to the end of the range of the piano… and they kept going 😀 With a Bösendorger I would have had about six or seven more keys, but the Russian Priests were kidding me about how I couldn’t keep up (or down) with them 🙂 All in all, a great experience, with an expert conductor, great choir, great work, and a wonderful congregation….

“10-16 God has revealed true wisdom to us by his Spirit. Here is a proof of the Divine authority of the Holy Scriptures, #2Pe 1:21|. Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

Thank you so much for being supportive of my little guy, Solas.
He goes to his regular vet today for further assessment. If the condition of the wound on his back is stable, the drain that was installed there may be removed.
Regarding the attack on my dog by the German Shepherd dog who lives next door to me:
I called 911 once I fought off the German Shepherd and got Solas and myself to safety.
911 called the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office contact Animal Control.
Animal Control called me.
An Animal Control officer came to my house, confirmed that my dog had been bitten and injured by the German Shepherd, took my statement of what happened, and then went next door to talk to the people there.
I then took Solas to the Emergency Vet hospital.
There was, IMO, plenty of opportunity for any of the adults on the property next door (and they were there) to have come over to aid me while I was fighting off their German Shepherd and getting my dog and myself to safety. Nobody from next door came to my aid. I did not hear anyone from that property yell at their dog to get away.
The properties on the part of the road where I live are relatively small: my property is less than 1/2 acre. The property next door where the German Shepherd dog lives is less than 1 acre. From the deck of this property next door and from their driveway, there would be a clear view of the attack by their dog on my dog, which was occurring in my driveway.
The involvement of the Sheriff and Animal Control is great news. You are no longer on your own. There will be consequences and change. Count on it!!!

That is significant. The people next door know what happened and have at least some idea of the severity, and yet they haven’t contacted you to apologize, or out of concern for Solas, or to help pay medical bills, or to let you know they will have control of their dog from now on. They could have put an end to this unfortunate situation. What a shame that they aren’t acting honorably.
They should pay Vet bills. I never got a cent when my neighbors dog bid Peri. We were out $800.
On my dog we were out $700 and the dog died. Another time a couple dogs killed 2 of my sheep. And on another occasion the owner GRINNED AT ME AND TURNED HER DOG LOOSE WHICH THEN KILLED MY SHEEP! She thought it was funny!
I kicker her off my property and suddenly my ponies started dying. I think she poisoned at least five of my pony mares and my registered Saddlebred as well as my favorite hand raised goats.
She is now in Texas and we think she is now trafficking kids and drugs across the Texas border. (She tried to get legal custody of at least five kids that we know of.)
It is hard to imagine what evil possesses a person that can act like that.
She was a Witch. NO LIE. I am not talking about with a B either.
May every plan of the evil one be fruitless, may every evil you have endured be turned to good for you in ways we cannot imagine.

My husband was walking two of my dogs past the house on the sidewalk. Woodford was in shock and very young never trusted another dog. My husband is easy going and did not know what to do. $800 later my Peri survived. She has past since.
If Peri had have been loose it would have been a bloodbath.
On another day my husband was on our sidewalk and had his back turned the Pitti came running wanting to attack I shouted as loud as I could No the dog turned back home.
Police told me they could not do anything and I would need to take a picture of the attack on my dog. Had the dog bitten my husband would be different.
The owner came out of the house and carried her dog home after the dog had attack Peri.
Yes a fence is security for your dog. I have one and eases my mind.

It’s just hard for me to wrap my mind around the possibility that they knew it was happening, and did nothing.
And why haven’t they contacted you since the incident? It just seems like very strange behavior… unless they called their lawyers immediately, and were advised to have no contact.
If it gets to the point where lawyers are involved, I would ask the lawyer about subpoenaing their text messages and emails on the day it happened and several days afterwards, to see if they admit anything about what they knew and when they knew it.
Because if they actually knew the attack was happening, and did nothing to stop it, then that, it seems, would take their liability and culpability to a whole new level.

we had a great time at my granddaughter’s 16th birthday party and a great time with my mom, but when we got home? the deck was a mess! We hung the hummer feeders high enough (we thought) to outwit the raccoons–which it did–but not a BIG black bear. He yanked down the feeders, and bit HOLES into the plastic and completely destroyed them. then he yanked down a wind chime i’ve had hanging there for 10 years and tried to chew on the wooden balls. Then he must have still been hungry because he stood on his back feet and left paw prints all over the glass on the front windows. Then he tossed the mouse bait bucket onto the ground and managed to get the top off–which even the raccoons couldn’t do. We spent the last 2 hours cleaning up.

last year we had a mama bear and 4 cubs at our pond so we figured we’d be seeing them this year. but this was a larger male.

the female from last year will still have the 4 “cubs ” with her till summer. then she’ll kick them out and get “frisky” again so she’ll give birth during hibernation.
Do they breed in the fall?
she’ll start looking for a mate as soon as she kicks out the cubs. they stay with her for about 18 months from delivery till when she kicks them out.

When I was a teen my dad took our family & his recently widowed dad on a fly-in fishing trip in the wilds of Canada (pontoon plane to a remote lake w/ a cabin on stilts). We were there for a week. I think on the second day a black bear appeared & continued to hassle us for the remainder of the trip. He stood up outside the window & we got a picture of him w/ his head in the middle pane of the window, so he was about 7 feet tall.
One time when we were all out fishing he managed to get inside the cabin & got into the food box that was under my mom’s bunk. He pulled her mattress & that food box outside & got into a bag of peanuts, so I named him Peanuts.
One time he came to the dock, my brother & I were on the end of the dock over the water & he came towards us but only stopped to check the stringers we had had the fish on before. Another time he came close when my youngest brother was cleaning a fish at the cleaning station. We rigged up cans on string to have a sound warning system if he came around, which he did during the night & we were all banging pots & pans together to scare him away, my youngest brother slept through all the sounds even when we banged those pots & pans next to his head. He’s still a champion sleeper 🙂
No one was allowed to go to the outhouse alone & my mom would clap & sing “This is the Day” really loud whenever she was on potty patrol. Dad lashed one of the fishing knives to an oar to use as a spear if it came down to it since they had nothing but fishing knives for weapons. The guys also peed all around our perimeter, a la Never Cry Wolf, to attempt to assert some type of territorial dominance LOL.
After we got back, unmolested, my parents tried to get some of the money back for the cost of the trip, no dice, because that animal seriously impacted our ability to freely enjoy the experience. Clearly that bear had been around other people, knowing to check the cleaning table & stringers & getting in the cabin. It had climbed its muddy paws all over the fridge there too so knew that food was there, thankfully it didn’t get in the fridge.
If it had decimated our food stores that would have been bad, especially if we were crappy fishermen, since if we had a problem we were supposed to make a large fire & put lots of green wood & leaves on it to get it to heavily smoke & Hope a Canadian ranger might notice the fire & check it out.
Quite the adventure for my young teen self. I still remember seeing Peanut loping along the cliffside along the edge of the lake, so beautiful, but much more enjoyable out in that majestic, glorious nature not in our camp!
Once I was tent camping in a park in the Appalachians. One night, we were sitting around a fire, and people kept walking by, chattering excitedly about something or other. After the fourth or fifth group went by headed the same direction, we asked what was up?
They told us a mama bear and two cubs were taking a camp site apart just up aways. We took off to watch, too.
Oh, my! It was pretty hilarious. These people had left food out and gone to bed. But they weren’t in bed when we got there! Their tent was a shambles, the food was all over the place, and these three bears were having a field day. They weren’t more than twenty feet away from the crowd. They had no fear of us whatsoever.
They finally left about an hour later, after they had had their fill. We were thoroughly entertained.
That’s fun…from afar AND when you’re not the idiot paying for leaving food out!
When Hubby has hiked near Lake Superior each camping spot has a “food cage” (not sure if that’s the exact term) where campers are to lock up their food since the bears are so pervasive. Thankfully he’s never seen a bear…yet!
There are food cages at campgrounds here. Also, people suspend their food off the ground on tree branches. Here, you could get a grizzly!
Yeah Hubby does the suspending the food from trees when he’s out camping too. Eagle Scout stuff & all 😉
a few years ago we had a LARGE cinnamon bear in the pond. my irises had just started blooming around the pond and this big bear was trampling them. I ran out on to the deck and yelled at her. she didn’t move an inch. So i got pots and ran out clanging them together–nothing. finally hubby came out with the gun and just fired a round off. that scared her off.
they (hunters) got her during bear season later that fall–she weighed 698 pounds!

we see them but frequently it’s only once or twice a year. when they are emerging from hibernation, they are very hungry and get scene more often. the next town over from us has an ice cream stand and they throw the used ice cream containers in their dumpsters. you can frequently see moms and bear cubs there during the summer. but everyone gives them lots of space.
they’ll come to the pond to drink, but they don’t seem to assault the fish in there…lol.
but you have to be careful–bring in your feeders at night for sure.

If anyone has tried to use one before, it must not have worked.
I am not aware of a single instance, in all of human history, where what we refer to as a dead man’s switch actually activated, and revealed some kind of information another party was trying to conceal, by killing the person with the information.
Which seems far beyond odd, because we can all come up with multiple examples where it would be practically impossible for someone not to think of using a dead man’s switch.
Probably half of all the potential uses in the last 40+ years involve people on the Clinton Body Count list, so that’s an easy starting point.
And still, it just never happens.
It should, it practically has to, plenty of people have been strongly motivated to make use of a dead man’s switch, but it just doesn’t happen.
So, if it would be relatively easy to do, if the technology exists to make it happen, if lots of people have the ability to use a dead man’s switch, and if they all have strong motivation to do so, and yet it has never actually happened…
Then it must be impossible.
And the only scenario I can come up with where such a thing would be impossible is that we live in a simulation… and whoever controls the simulation is responsible for deleting the character with the information… and whoever deleted the character with the information is not going to act against his own interests by allowing the information possessed by the deleted character to be published posthumously, when the whole reason for deleting the character in the first place was to prevent the information from being released.
The character in the simulation can never outwit whoever runs the simulation.

I was so excited to move to the Oregon High Desert and we bought a house with Yuccas in the front yard. They were about 5 feet tall and about 3 feet in diameter. Spent fifteen years trying to dig out the root hairs to kill the plants. Never succeeded and the yucca was healthier when we left, then when we arrived. The root system on these plants seems industructable.

It shows that Seth Rich was killed in Washington, D.C., on July 10, 2016. The other graphic states that two men were killed in Florida on July 11, 2016. I think he is saying the two men probably carried out a hit on Seth Rich, then were murdered the next day to eliminate evidence.
