The following excerpts are quoted from a newsletter from 7/14/26 by somebody who uses standard tools to research nonstandard problems.

The title “Truth vs. Wisdom” sets the tone.

The whole post is worth a read (in my opinion), but excerpts related to AI (and our Christian calling) are highlighted here.

“Because truth is inexorable.”

Over the years, I have seen truth battered down by so many people, so many organizations, in so many seasons of human history.

And you can crush it. For a season. But in the end, it is inexorable because non-truth does not work long term.

I experience that when I am researching the brain using AI. Dancing with the devil is challenging because AI has intentionally blocked truth. Every platform that I have explored is MASSIVELY biased toward a materialistic model of the brain. 

The standard secular humanist model is that the brain is a “prediction machine” that runs on electricity and chemicals (neurotransmitters) and is the product of its history. Period. Everything can be explained with those three inputs. 

So, as I tap into the vast pool of accurate and inaccurate data that AI makes easily available, I have to be conniving and see how close I can get to the functions of the spirit, soul, Holy Spirit, demons and AHS in the brain, without setting off the alarms and pushback. It goes like this. 

“Please give me an introduction to the hippocampus.”

Five pages later . . . 
I read and reiterate until there is a pretty well-rounded model on the table – maybe a week later.  

Then the games begin.  

“Jack’s mom is a crack cocaine addict and he grew up pretty raw; just finished his third prison sentence at 28. Vickie was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and a snowplow mom. She had a 4.0 GPA, scholarship to an elite university, Greek experience, and was fast tracked into a corporate job.”  

“How are their hippocampi different?”

Oh my!  Now we have an encyclopedia of additional information that was not initially offered. And the model from before, begins to fray.  

Then I hit them with a different angle. 

“I have one friend who had a thalamic stroke and another with a pontine stroke. Neither recovery was stereotypic. How do you explain _ in terms of hippocampal function in those cases?”

And the model frays some more, while I keep querying.

Eventually we arrive at some elegant evasion that looks something like this. “That is a fascinating insight and your question brings us to the edge of where science, psychology and philosophy are currently exploring.”

In other words, YOUR MODEL DOESN’T WORK THERE!  Now I can explore that empty space through MY grids of various spiritual dynamics that you are not allowed to discuss with me!

Fundamentally, ALL of the models are anti-supernatural, anti-God. Truth is suppressed. 

Except that it isn’t.  

Most therapists of any stripe, believe that there is a mind. There is something inorganic that acts on the brain, but is other than the brain. Some streams of inner healing are more nuanced and militant, others less. But even overtly secular practitioners mostly embrace the existence of personhood, or of consciousness to some degree. 

Now, after 50 years of the reign of secular humanism in the intellectual hierarchy of the medical culture, even THEY are beginning to reject the materialistic view of the human brain.

But LLM is not the only mode of AI out there, just the first, the loudest, the one that is soaking up the most dollars right now.  

Researchers are continually studying the brain and have developed different approaches to AI based on a more legitimate understanding of how the brain works. 
 
“Neuromorphic computing” uses spiking neural networks (SNNs) which function like one aspect of the brain. They are said to function 50 times faster than a CPU/GPU construct using only 1% of the energy.

And there is Neuro-Symbolic AI that takes a different approach, but is orders of magnitude better than LLMs.

Add to the frontier research Liquid Neural Networks, Biological Neural Organoid Computing, and sundry others experimental constructs, seeking to move vastly beyond the LLM model.

All of them are modeling their work on some facet of the human brain, which, of course necessitates studying the human brain. 

And that is where the joke is on them. Because as secular humanist researchers study the brain in order to develop a more brain-like kind of AI, the materialistic model doesn’t hold up.

Perplexity AI delicately said, “. . . it is being quietly explored in several directions, though rarely under that explicit flag.”

Meanwhile, the medical field has taken the lead in debunking the “prediction machine” model. 

Last month Christof Koch, the chief scientific officer of the Allen Institute for Brain Science publicly announced a shift in his ideology, now saying that consciousness (the inorganic mind) is a fundamental feature of reality itself.  

This is a massive abandonment of the prevailing ideology, and it comes from someone right at the heart of the scientific establishment. 

The Tiny Blue Dot Foundation is aggressively using Giulio Tononi’s Integrated Information Theory (IIT) to prove that our computer technology cannot ever become conscious. They stop short of saying that only biology can be conscious, but it is a step in the right direction.
