God’s Mysterious Ways
[Not my 1st person narrative.]
Several times recently I have been reminded that God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). God’s ways and thoughts are indeed higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). While I have ultimately surrendered to God and recognize that He is not obligated to explain His ways to me, I still often wonder why He so often works in mysterious ways. Why did He do _______ that way? Why did He use _______ method to accomplish this?
I do not question His judgment. I do not doubt His wisdom. I absolutely do not think I could fully understand His ways even if He explained them to me. But, I sometimes still wonder why He accomplished something a certain way.
Why did He use a bunch of misunderstandings, personality conflicts, and bad attitudes to close a door, leading to a different door, which was the right door all along? Why not just divert us from the first door to begin with? Why not move us away from the wrong door earlier in the process? Why not convince us that it was the wrong door without us having to slam the door shut due to our own sinful attitudes and choices?
Why does God sometimes use a conflict over the color of carpet in a church building to split a church, creating a new growing and thriving church in a different area, instead of simply motivating some people in the church to go plant a new church?
Why did God allow Paul and Barnabas to split, apparently in anger, over a disagreement, instead of simply causing them to recognize that their outreach could be multiplied if they went separate directions (Acts 15:36-41)?
Why does God answer with “wait” to a continual prayer request over 20+ years of time and then grant the prayer request once the person isn’t even 100% certain he/she wants it anymore?
Why does God seem to provide a great solution to a difficult situation, with everyone agreeing that it is the perfect solution, only to later unravel the solution to everyone’s dismay?
Why does God sometimes work in mysterious ways?
The answer, ultimately, is “I don’t know.” Learning to trust God when you don’t understand why He allowed something or why He chose a particular means to accomplish something is a key spiritual growth issue in the Christian life. Are you, like Job, able to praise the Lord whether He gives or takes away (Job 1:21)?
“Hindsight is 20/20” is not a biblical saying, but it is very true. There are many things God has done that I used to wonder about, that I now understand, or at least think I understand. There are numerous other things, though, that I definitely still do not understand and cannot imagine how the mysterious way in which God worked was the best way.
Yes, of course, God works all things together for good (Romans 8:28). Yes, absolutely, God uses the mysterious things that happen in our lives to mold us into the image of Christ and transform/renew our minds (Romans 12:1-2). But I still wonder why, when it was within His power to do so, God didn’t accomplish the same thing without using a plan that resulted in physical, emotional, and spiritual scars that won’t be fully healed this side of eternity.
Whether I ever receive the answers, whether such things ever make sense to me, I will continue to trust God and His Word. Why? If you think God’s ways are mysterious, just imagine what things would be like if I was in charge!

As you probably know now, I’ve changed my handle to “Sir ES” to avoid the absolute SCOURGE of being “misgendered” (lol!) as non-male, since the prior “Emeraldstar” handle got at least one prior Treeper, er, ‘confused’!
Interestingly, I found out the hard way about being in a managerial role, so the only times I allow myself to be “in charge” is when I work alone (or on my own project), or when I’m sure that letting someone else take the position will screw things up royally!

What’s very interesting here is that ChatGPT almost seems to have Sam Altman’s abrasive bullshitter personality. It “talks bigger than it is”. It tries to impress in the exact way that Altman tries to impress investors. It has a massive superiority complex. It “fakes it until it makes it”. AND that is exactly what I see in so much “AI prose” on the web. It repeats the same minuscule and trivial points over and over with a bunch of lovely word salad. Answers that would take a person one, two or three sentences are turned into clickable essays that – in the end – say nothing, or say nothing decisive.
Ironically, the factorial example is exactly WHY AI sounds “smart” when it’s not. There are infinite ways to string language together and SOUND original.
All that said, it is also (IMO) a mistake to underestimate AI, or to have too much pride in human superiority. When we move human capabilities into machinery (thrown rock becomes ICBM), it doesn’t lose the power to help or harm us – quite the opposite.
It is also important to realize that the “showstopper” problems of AI are being continuously overcome – primarily by stealing what we know about our own thinking, and getting that algorithmic supremacy into the machines.
It reminds me of the original Star Trek, with quite a few episodes addressing the topic of the fallability of the machine. Call it programming, call it computing, call it artificial “intelligence” – it’s all the same thing: a poor facsimile of natural, human thinking.
If ever a device/computer were to be able to FEEL (the limbic/emotional system, which *precedes* the intellect), we’d be done for!
Trying to re-design our body (as with ‘vaccines’ to alter our DNA & genes), and our minds (as with chip implants a la Musk, or with AI), exhibits extraordinary hubris – to “out-do” the divine handiwork of God.
It is wisdom which rules: not intelligence, not knowledge. IMO, of course.
There are myriad examples over time that more often than not, “progress” ends up being “regress,” and making things “better” makes things worse.
I fear AI will become the most intrusive and inextricable system of control ever conceived.

honestly that was not my intention. my daughter and her family raise goats and have sold many to 4-H winners. they take good care of them. As the current administration works toward “peace treaties” with Islamic nations, provides them with military weaponry, and continues using terms like “violent extremists” instead of “Muslims” or “jihadis” they may want to consider reading what sharia has to say about truces, treaties, and showing weakness.
American leaders may discover that we are losing a war while most of them do not seem to have any idea we are even in one.

Comey also has added some new heavy hitters to his defense team: Rebekah Donaleski, a former unit chief at SDNY.

Elias Kim, former general counsel in Biden’s Department of Commerce.

This is not news. It is a routine motion made whenever the page limits impede a party’s effort to fully inform the court of the facts and law needed to understand the relief being sought by the motion. They are almost always granted. It is more akin to informing the other people in the case.
Comey’s attorneys made a motion to exceed the page limits of a local court rule [local rules are judges playing king of the neighborhood]. This is required if the party wants to avoid being sanctioned by the court

When it comes to computer chips (and other chips) or really most anything technical that The Political Class look at; they nearly inevitably jump to the wrong conclusions based on “simple and obvious” understandings and answers. I think of this as “Thumbnail thinking”. They have a “thumbnail” depth of understanding, so leap to “simple, obvious & wrong” answers and solutions.
I think it’s a human failing. People see political news and decide something was either done wrong, or not done, because whoever-it-was didn’t immediately go scorched earth “like they should have, and like we would have done.” I understand the lack of trust in those who are in charge because I’ve experienced all the factors that led to it; but lack of knowledge of not only the law, but also political strategy and multiple other factors, can lead to trouble.
In the case of computer chips and all manner of areas of expertise, acknowledging that many people not only don’t know everything, but that they are not even aware that there is more “out there” that they don’t know, is key.
At the same time, now that we can’t trust the medical establishment and other “experts,” we have to take our health care into our own hands. But we need to remember that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and try to recognize when things are beyond our ability to understand. It’s a difficult path to walk.
The “Political Class,” as it were, seems now to only concentrate on how new tech can advance their own positions, so they sell the “sizzle,” and forfeit the (bad) steak. They aren’t even trying at all to benefit regular Americans – just themselves.
Their reliance on the general ignorance of the populace seems to them to be an everlasting font to draw water (money and power) from.
And yet, there comes a time when all their lies, machinations, and hustling rhetoric falls short – and they haven’t the guts to jump ship.
At some point – and we’re nearing it now – their go-to positions don’t fly anymore, and they’re at a loss as to what they can do.
It’s eerily similar to the sudden inversion of the magnetic poles, which shift so strikingly fast that being unprepared for it – for THEM – is a total loss.
It’s high time we re-calibrate the power structure, with WE THE PEOPLE in charge again.

I too, on a regular basis, question God’s timing and method. I suppose, for Christian disciples, that is not particularly rare. I have often imagined that I could author a book titled, God is not a German Engineer: The Inefficiency of God. When I have devoted any serious thought to the question, I realize that I undervalue God’s use of experience in shaping the lives of His followers. It is my considered opinion that God’s instruction includes more than patience and obedience. When God takes one over mountains and into deep valleys, across rivers and deserts, there are countless lessons along the way that purify and mold the pilgrim into a citizen of the Kingdom. The evidence suggests, at least in my life, that God is trying to instill Heaven’s perspective in His people. The human instinct is to have the desired outcome as expedited as our patience will permit. Timing is one of the mysteries of God. Even Scripture treats the issue as something that belongs solely to the discretion of the Creator. Scripture covers the entire subject in one simple but elegant phrase, “in the fullness of time God…”. That phrase has become my default answer whenever I am tempted to ask that “why” question.

And they weren’t allowed to take their relatives out of the hospital either. They were met with stony, cold, indifference. Sludge.
Out in the world, the general populace was faced with dancing TikTok nurses, mask Nazis in businesses, arrows on floors, closed facilities, and propaganda. Perfectly logical questions were shut down, and pure idiocy was elevated. Sludge.

Solas is back home from a long day at the emergency vet hospital.
All the exams and bloodwork came back fine, with one exception (a tiny fraction of a minus count in blood Potassium.) He was given a fluids bolus since he had had several episodes of very loose stools before I took him to the vet hospital this morning. He was sedated for the exams and bloodwork, so now he needs to sleep it off.
The attending vet feels that what happened to Solas is a combination of anxiety / stress due to the German Shepherd next door, plus maybe his stomach got upset from something like a “dog stomach bug.” Parvo wasn’t mentioned by the vet, so I think that situation is OK.
Solas was sent home with a week’s supply of a gut biome supplement to sprinkle on his food. He’s to eat a “dog version” of a bland diet for a week. I have some canned GI support food for him here already, from his hospitalization in May. I’m to call his regular vet tomorrow morning and arrange for a followup with them.
The emergency vet feels that Solas likely needs to be on a “dog dose” of Prozac to help with the anxiety issues. I’m to discuss this with the regular vet tomorrow.
Solas has been anxious / nervous about being outside ever since that dog next door attacked him in May. He’s been taking Trazodone, but it doesn’t seem to be helping him much. And the last thing I want to do is to have him “doped up” just to be OK with being outside. The dog next door senses every time Solas is outside (and also when I’m outside doing stuff in the yard, etc.) and barks like thunder the entire time my dog and/or I are outside the house. There is no doubt in my mind that if that German Shepherd ever gets loose again, he’s going to run over here and kill my dog if he finds him and me outside.
If anything, today’s trip to the emergency vet hospital has increased my resolve to move away from where I am now and for my dog and me to go and live in a place that’s quieter and healthier.
Any possibility of having the people cited for noise? See if you can get your hands on a meter and find out if the barking is over 60 DB.

I have to say, yesterday was particularly disturbing as regards noise from next door. There was a party going on there from 10AM until 7PM. Very loud Hispanic music all the time. The dog next door was outside and barking almost all the time. Some of the people at the party sounded like they were arguing at the top of the their lungs.
Hubby said make sure you learn how to use it correctly.

I think the German Shepherd next door was trained to be a guard dog that barks very loudly.
I also know that the dog’s owner told the Animal Control officer in May that the dog “doesn’t like other dogs.”
So the dog’s owner knows that their dog is a problem.
It sure sounds to me like they are just beginning to realize that their dog is problematic, and they’re not yet at the stage of accepting responsibility for it (such as doing something about it, other than trying to keep the dog inside just a bit).
First question – is there any change on the legal front?
Second question – do these neighbors have children?
Third question – I seem to recall either you or them putting up a fence, or planning to do so. Did that ever happen, and if so, what kind of fence?
Fourth question – what business is your neighbor in?
