However, transparency is not, apparently, the priority with the judges of North Carolina. In January 2026, the North Carolina Appeals Court rejected the efforts to allow the public to access the records that the University of North Carolina has regarding Dr. Baric’s interactions with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. At issue here is the fact that UNC withheld over 5,000 documents related to Dr. Baric and the Wuhan Institute of Virology in response to the original request of US Right to Know. The university did release thousands of copies of other documents in response to the request. USRTK then sued the university to get the withheld documents released. The Appeals Court decision to reject the lawsuit hinges on an interpretation of what is considered to be “proprietary information“, stating that the documents still held by UNC are under “an exemption” to the law in North Carolina. In other words, it appears that the North Carolina Appeals Court did another version of the infamous “what the definition of is, is” of another certain court case of some years ago.
How does this decision (and the court’s interpretation of “proprietary nature” language), square with the fact that Dr. Ralph Baric had already Patented, in March 2015, the SARS-CoV-2 virus “template” that he created in his lab at UNC? This is the Patent Number US9884895B2 that was presented by Yours Truly in The Baric Files, Part Three (see above in today’s offering for the URL link to the post and to the Patent.) And, that the SARS-CoV-2 virus “template” that Dr. Baric lab-created at UNC, and Patented, was based, at least in part, on samples of the SHC014 coronavirus that Dr. Zheng-li Shi (of the Wuhan Institute of Virology) had given to Dr. Baric (at his request) back in 2013? One other aspect to all of the above: Dr. Robert Redfield, MD, former Director of the CDC, has stated that the SARS-CoV-2 disaster came from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is a magistrate judge; not an Article 3 judge. He is nothing more than a federal court commissioner. Purpose – to handle routine motions and such in cases which are not yet in the active trial phase.
For up to 10[?] days after, any of his decisions can be appealed to the judge assigned to that case number. If not so appealed, or if the judge affirms the magistrate, it becomes a final decision on whatever the basis of the motion was [law of the case].
And finally [not to be confused with Ann Finally on powerline blog], any decision of the district court that dismisses the case can be reviewed by the court of appeals.

I would guess that “all of the above” is the actual situation!
I don’t like to talk about features that people can’t change, but weight is something that people have control over. I think the issue with some of them is that they have gained weight. If they were more slender, those features would not be so noticeable.
I also think they do not know how to, or don’t want to, enhance the features that they do have. Their hairstyles are not flattering. Their choice of glasses, if they wear them, are not either. There’s a lot that could be done to make them look more feminine.
Some people “let themselves go” as they age, too. Most of the ones that I’ve seen are middle aged and older, although the judge’s wife in question appears to be younger. I think if she lost weight her jawline would not look like that.
Some of them are startling at first glance at a photo. Chuck Schumer’s wife, Bill Gates’ wife, and others I can’ think of at the moment don’t have to look the way they do, IMO. They have unlimited amounts of money to get help with their appearance. The liberal mindset is to celebrate the opposite of all that is beautiful, so that might be a factor too.

Not sure how this fits in but I have never heard of malpractice settlement where the doctors admitted liability. The primary purpose of not going to trial is to avoid the jury finding liability. In all the accounts of people assuming O was talking about Michelle, I have not seen one that mentions that a man named Michael had just been introduced. It is always portrayed as if O brought up that name out of thin air (IOW, that he was subconsciously referring to Michelle). But he wasn’t talking about Michelle at all.
Adm. Mullen, Deborah, and Michael were present, while Jack had been deployed. O is saying that the entire family has performed service to the country. He is addressing the first three and then saying he also wanted to acknowledge Jack, who was not present. It should read like this:
“To Admiral Mullen, Deborah, Michael — and I also want to acknowledge your son Jack, who’s deployed today — all of you have performed extraordinary service to our country.”
IMO it is a major problem that the truth is no longer sought, and false theories “become” fact. Michelle did not refer to herself as a black man either. See my next comment.

Think back to 2024. One of the major reasons the American people elected Donald Trump was so he would fulfill his campaign promise of reducing the size, scope and power of the evil Leviathan housed in the federal administrative state that controls our daily lives in a grotesquely unconstitutional manner.
This necessarily meant greatly reducing the number of federal civilian employees.
As someone who has spent many years in military uniform supervising civilian federal employees, I can assure you that 95% of those civil service employees completely and utterly disregard the fact that their boss is the American electorate.
So when the American electorate says “We think your job equals tyranny and we don’t want you employed in that job anymore,” instead of recognizing that the only people entitled to make this decision are the American voters, they resist, thinking that they are somehow more important than the Constitution and the electorate.
It just so happens that the great majority of these unrepentant federal workers reside in Northern Virginia. So when Trump did what the American people wanted him to do and he fired so many of these unneeded leeches, those unionized leeches decided to vote Democrat at all costs, as a matter of preserving their wholly unnecessary jobs and cushy livelihoods.
Another key fact is that the suburban areas of Northern Virginia like Fairfax and Loudon Counties control state-wide elections, and federal workers control those counties. So the inevitable happened and those unneeded, rent-seeking federal workers swung control of Virginia to Democrats.
And guess what? Those elected Democrats took opposition to reducing the size of the federal government as a mandate to rapidly enact an Orwellian set of laws that would make Karl Marx and Che Guevara blush: outrageous taxation; elimination of basic human rights like those embodied in the Second Amendment; pro-illegal alien policies; refusal to enforce federal immigration laws; draconian rules mandating that confused children can destroy their genitals without parental consent; laws supporting criminality; and a host of other insane laws and policies designed to turn Virginia into a modern version of Ingsoc.
Who is to blame for this evil? Federal workers. Their refusal to acknowledge the will of their boss (i.e., YOU, the American voter) has tossed an entire state into Marxist despair. The ability of federal civil “servants” to cling to their cushy, unneeded jobs is why Virginia has become an un-American hellscape overnight. They simply DO NOT CARE that their fellow Americans are condemned to live in crime and tyranny, because that preserves their cushy sinecures. They are not civil “servants.” They are civil MASTERS, and they don’t care what you think.
Place the blame where it belongs. Federal workers did this to you, Virginia. THEY are to blame.
But there are two ways Trump can remedy this dire state of affairs:
1. Keep on cutting the bloated federal Leviathan.
2. Move federal agencies out of DC and spread them across the rest of the country, depriving this unionized cabal of unelected bureaucratic tyrants of the nefarious power of concentration.

See, 70% of CO2 emissions coming from a cotton t-shirt come from washing and drying it. Bad t-shirts, stop them!
And washing clothes puts microfibers into the water system! (Let’s see their video on birth control into the water system, which is actually believed to be giving young men high-pitched voices.) Worse still, washing clothes wears them out, and creating a lot of ‘clothing waste.’ Maybe they should try recycling.
They want jeans washed just once a month, with no adjustments suggested for the condition they are in.
Pajamas get once a week, jumpers, or sweaters, get once every six weeks, again, with no concessions about how dirty they are.
They do make a concession on worn underwear and stinky gym clothes.
But can you imagine having to deal with kids’ clothes washed on that schedule? Kids love dirt, they’re drawn to dirt, they demonstrate it every time they go out to play, and it’s not just the boys.

Probably wasn’t the clothes, it was the body odor.
In many cultures, probably most around the world outside of North America, bathing every day isn’t normal, or even considered healthy.
And in some cultures, having a prominent body odor is intentional. The kind of thing Westerners cover up with daily cleansing and deodorant.
Oh, and if you want your clothes to last longer, don’t put them in the dryer. That’s what damages fibers, not washing. If you line dry your clothes, they last forever (not really, but way longer).

I’ve been meaning to share a recipe. You’ll never buy potato chips again if you try these.
Slice a couple of potatoes really thin with a mandolin. A 32nd of an inch, or even thinner if you like.
Soak the sliced potatoes in hot water with a teaspoon of salt dissolved in it for about half and hour. Drain well, and dry on paper towels. Get them really dry so they don’t spatter.
Heat lard in a wide shallow pan to about 350 degrees. I just guess by how it looks and smells, lol. It’s lard.
Fry the potatoes in batches 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Salt them while they are hot (good sea salt is best), but let them cool to get maximum crunchiness before eating (this is the hard part, lol).
Seriously, the best potato chip I ever ate.

Driving anywhere will be very dangerous. Trees will come down due to the ice accumulation, taking down power lines and blocking roads. Due to the high winds, the direction of the falling trees will be impossible to predict.
Yours Truly expects the dangerous road conditions and the power outages to last for at least 3 days, perhaps 4 days.
Any ice that melts during the day starting next Monday will re-freeze overnight due to persistent very low nighttime temperatures. This will persist for at least several days into next week.

We have 3 generators and I filled the gas cans AND the gas truck with non-ethanol gas.

BRUNSWICK, Maine (TND) — Maine has begun paying rent for homeless immigrants living in apartments located in the town of Brunswick.
The state budgeted nearly $3.5 million to provide 60 migrant families in Brunswick with two years of rent. Maine expects the immigrants to “gain the means” to pay housing costs through state “support” and “guidance.”
The state is also supplying $100,000 to dozens of Brunswick migrants for a year’s worth of asylum application and work authorization assistance. The legal support seeks to ensure immigrants receive work approval “as soon as possible” so they can “provide for themselves,” reduce pressure on public programs and help local economies by joining the workforce.
“Through this program, family members work together to support each other’s goals and achieve long-term stability with the help of a bridging case manager/coach,” a Joint Select Committee on Housing report states.
The Brunswick apartments’ planner, Developer’s Collaborative, estimates it has constructed 24 one and two-bedroom residences so far. Brunswick Human Services Director Deb Crocker believes the move has been somewhat challenging for the migrants.
“It’s an adjustment for them,” Crocker told WGME.
Crocker says many of the migrants have lived in shelters and hotels for at least the past year.
The Brunswick monies are part of a $55 million Emergency Housing Relief Fund, which issues immigrants permanent, transitional and emergency housing.

This is for all of you in the path of the big Southern storm.
If you are leaving your house, especially if you’re leaving after a power outage, throw the main breaker switch to “off” before you go. If you go around trying to turn things off, you may miss something that would come back on if the power does. It might save your house.
In one of these when I was a teen in Georgia, our power went out. We left home. Nobody realized that my sister had neglected to turn the stove burner off under the oil she was heating to make fries. The house caught fire and gutted while we were gone.
It’s just something to think about.

Good advice. Also, if you have any outside hose bibs, or piping near the outer walls, it may make sense to drain the water (if possible) or, in limited cases, to leave a VERY slow drip so that there is a tiny flow to keep the pipes from freezing.
Folks with experience in really cold areas should be able to explain this better than me… we’ve had a cold winter here, but not THAT cold. In 1996 it was -22°C here, which made life “fun” for folks with diesels… not to mention the rest of us 🙂

I had a bet on with the guy upstairs that I could start my diesel VW pkup when the temp droped to -40F in NH. I put a drop cord out the window, plugged in the block heater. THEN I took my battery charger and charged the battery (Thereby heating up the battery.) Finally I took the 5 gal of diesel fuel I had in the bathroom getting nice and warm during my shower, and poured it in the tank.
My vehicle started on the first try. I ended up jump starting 1/2 the parking lot that morning.
If you didn’t make money off that …
I got a dinner out of it. (We were both single.)
Older diesels can handle a little bit of gasoline added (5% or so IIRC) so that helps to avoid “waxy yellow buildup” but the new diesels cannae take it, cap’n… (like my 2008 Touran). In the Nordic countries they have a special diesel mix that can go down to -40C but we don’t get it here (nor do we need it) in Germany…
I’ve heard that in Siberia there are trucks (e.g. long-haul trucks) that they just keep running…

The first (and only) time I ever saw snow fall, we were in a hotel in Nashville around January 15. I saw the run on milk, eggs, and bread after the forecast and thought, “WTF, is everyone going to be making French toast?” We could see the interstate from our room, and it was amazing how fast and thorough they were getting the snow off and keeping things rolling.
There was a Waffle House within walking distance, so I got a glimpse of WH emergency response. A driver came by with a big truck when we were there — everyone seemed to know him — to not only bring food but also make sure everything from flashlights to toilet paper was topped-off. He also offered to drive employees to their homes.
On the news, there was all this talk about where the plows were and how all the salt barns were full.
A couple of years later, it snowed in Atlanta and it really hit me that they didn’t have early responders, snow plows, or salt barns.
Up north snow storms are mostly a yawn.
Down here in NC they are BAD NEWS because we just do not have the equipment. Also the pines mean roads are closed and electric is off.
On the plus side, the farmers get out with their tractors and chain saws and clear the roads before the state or locals can get a-round-2-it

Soofer is accused of lining his pockets with millions of taxpayer dollars intended to combat the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. Instead, he allegedly used the money to purchase a $7 million home, took luxury trips across the United States, and paid for his children’s private school tuition, among other luxury items.
He will make his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon. Mr. Soofer is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
For too long, California has left the spigot of taxpayer dollars on and has not provided anywhere near enough oversight of how the money is being spent.
Thankfully, the federal government is stepping in to enforce the law. We are demanding accountability — something the state’s leaders for years have failed to do.

I just talked to my friend again.
The girl was at a friend’s house. They took her to the hospital, AND THE HOSPITAL REFUSED TO TREAT THE CHILD! They had to bring the child back to her parents and then have THEM drive her to the emergency room and give permission to treat.
WTF!
IF they had pulled that crap 70 years ago when a nurse found me bleeding out and took an UNKNOWN child to the emergency room, I would have died that day. They did not find out who I was until later.

It is certainly a great way to have the parents retaliate if the girl dies. She is not out of the woods and may have brain damage.
The hospital is very very lucky my friend is over a thousand miles away. She is very angry and upset after finding out the hospital refused to treat.
More and more hospitals are looking pretty nasty.
I don’t understand it. If a child was hit by a car and taken to the hospital they wouldn’t proceed? Or a pool accident at a friends home..no care? Which State are they in ?

In Nebraska, the legal age for adult is 19, everyone under has to have parental consent to treat. It’s ridiculous, I know.

How is this even supposed to work? My understanding is that hospitals have to treat until stabilized before establishing identity, insurance, age, or anything else. This is from a law known as EMTALA.
