Dear MAGA: 20190414 Open Topic

This very special We Offer Ourselves SUNDAY
open thread is VERY OPEN – a place for everybody
to post whatever they feel they would like
to tell the White Hats, and the rest of the MAGA world.

Say what you want, comment on what other people said,
comment on people’s comments.
Keep it civil.  Treehouse rules, but expect lots of QAnon.

See the January 1st daily thread for the rules of the road,
which are few but important.

Remember – your greatest gift to President Trump is FIVE WORDS:
I AM PRAYING FOR YOU

God bless our President.

We Offer Ourselves

When Christ came into the world he said:
“Here I am, Lord God, I come to do your will.”  (from: Hebrews 10:9)

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

From a sermon by Saint Andrew of Crete, bishop

Let us go together to meet Christ on the Mount of Olives. Today he returns from Bethany and proceeds of his own free will toward his holy and blessed passion, to consummate the mystery of our salvation. He who came down from heaven to raise us from the depths of sin, to raise us with himself, we are told in Scripture, above every sovereignty, authority and power, and every other name that can be named, now comes of his own free will to make his journey to Jerusalem. He comes without pomp or ostentation. As the psalmist says: He will not dispute or raise his voice to make it heard in the streets. He will be meek and humble, and he will make his entry in simplicity.

Let us run to accompany him as he hastens toward his passion, and imitate those who met him then, not by covering his path with garments, olive branches or palms, but by doing all we can to prostrate ourselves before him by being humble and by trying to live as he would wish. Then we shall be able to receive the Word at his coming, and God, whom no limits can contain, will be within us.

In his humility Christ entered the dark regions of our fallen world and he is glad that he became so humble for our sake, glad that he came and lived among us and shared in our nature in order to raise us up again to himself. And even though we are told that he has now ascended above the highest heavens—the proof, surely, of his power and godhead—his love for man will never rest until he has raised our earthbound nature from glory to glory, and made it one with his own in heaven.

So let us spread before his feet, not garments or soulless olive branches, which delight the eye for a few hours and then wither, but ourselves, clothed in his grace, or rather, clothed completely in him. We who have been baptized into Christ must ourselves be the garments that we spread before him. Now that the crimson stains of our sins have been washed away in the saving waters of baptism and we have become white as pure wool, let us present the conqueror of death, not with mere branches of palms but with the real rewards of his victory. Let our souls take the place of the welcoming branches as we join today in the children’s holy song: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the king of Israel.

But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days. I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
They will no longer teach their friends and relatives, “Know the Lord!” Everyone, from least to greatest, shall know me—for I will forgive their iniquity and no longer remember their sin.
Jeremiah 31:33-34

“This is the covenant I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord:

I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them upon their minds,’”

Hebrews 10:16

“And I will give them another heart and a new spirit I will put within them. From their bodies I will remove the hearts of stone, and give them hearts of flesh.”
Ezekiel 11:19

And so I offer my thoughts…

SocialismCommunism … attempt, as all  utopian constructs do, to EXTERNALLY regulate  kindness, generosity, and right living.
We are taught, in the epistles (letters) to the young Christian church, that this is not  possible–even for those following the law given to Moses.
They want to tell us right from wrong. The same deal the serpent offered Eve. And that path has never helped anyone to get back to Eden.
We have broken programming. Laws, rules, codes of ethics can’t fix this kind of broken. Our moral software always generates the wrong answer like a phone book with all the numbers scrambled.
Some of us have been delighted to find our Creator has a remedy for us.
But it’s not an easy or comfortable path.
Because, well, our faulty program is not just neatly removed.
That would be easier, I think.
Instead we are offered access to a source without any malware, and the option to operate by our power of choice to moment by moment IGNORE our own malware, and live from an alternate motivation, the mind of Christ, the heart of God.
Shall we offer ourselves to do His good will–that living water might flow to those thirsty places we touch in our everyday lives? Who wouldn’t want that?
T*3

He pierced the rock to give them water;
It gushed forth in the desert like a river.

Psalm 105:41

Whoever believes in me, as scripture says:
‘Rivers of living water will flow from within him.’”

John 7:38

I sure could use a good dose of the Holy Spirit.

GA/FL

The Garden of Gethsemane! – I love that place! Some of those olive trees look like they are 2000 years old.
The place in Israel that touched me the deepest was the Church with the rock that was supposed to be where Jesus stayed up all night and prayed, the night before He was crucified.
I would love to go back there.
Welcome back, T3 – we missed you!
Blessings and peace to you and your family.

GA/FL

What a powerful meditation and absolutely beautiful – I will want to read it again tomorrow when I’m not so tired after getting home late from out of town visiting my daughter.
Thank you, T3.

GA/FL

Here’s one of the olive trees that looks so old:comment image

GA/FL

They are growing olive trees for oil in South Georgia now.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Hmmm….That could be the southern part of the country of Georgia (which actually does have some areas of nice climate–even temperate rain forests). But probably not.
Or it could be South Georgia Island. One look at where it’s located on a map will scotch that idea.
I’m guessing you mean the part of Georgia near Florida.

GA/FL

As a former longtime Georgian, and a grad of UGA, there is only one S GA that I know. I’ve heard of those others. For those sticklers for accurate count/data/detail, I should have specified, South Georgia, USA. :8->

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

It wouldn’t even have crossed my mind except it happened to be South Georgia and there’s that island by that name. It fully matched an existing pattern somewhere in that junkyard I call a brain.

GA/FL

WELL – there is St. George who allegedly slew a dragon. George Washington, who is one of our founding fathers. My lovely home state and its fabulous college football teams, UGA and Georgia State. My mother named me after the state, because (she said) of the old joke about the old black lady who said, “She ain’t got no paw, not muchova maw, so I’ll name her after the state.” Mama also said she named me after her childhood playmate, Georgia Mae. She told me another story, that when they came to ask the name of the baby, she thought they asked her where she was from, so she said GA and they wrote that down, then she called for her friend, the nurse who came to help, and they wrote that down as my middle name. She would never tell me the true reason for my name. Mama was a character. She looked a lot like Donald Trump. Her hair turned blonde, not gray when she got older and when she died, we found a gun in every room because she worked at home and needed protection with all the customers coming day and night to get their taxes and business paperwork/accounting done. Miss her a lot.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

And it so happens that the state of Georgia is named after King George II. (Not (*whew*) King George III.) I don’t hold it against y’all, not in the least!

GA/FL

Well – If you’ve got to be from CO…. that’s the least you can do. ;8->

GA/FL

There is also a St. George Island in N FL where bald eagles nest and hunt.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

St. George appears on British coins, as well as the Russian coins from the time of the tsars, and in fact, he appears on the newer Russian crest, which is a crowned double headed eagle with St. George on the shield. It is an odd thing for a republic to use a crowned eagle as its crest, by the way; I wonder why they didn’t drop the crowns.

GA/FL

Then there are Georgia Peaches and Pecans:

Gil

Olive trees are pretty but you have to trim routinely, esp if you want it to stay small. Otherwise plant it in a place where yhe olives wont drop on anything but dirt, and keep it away from your cars.

grandmaintexas

Me too, but I’m just a bit north of where they could survive. I used to have a gorgeous one when I lived in CA. Hummingbirds would nest in its branches.

Linda

Wow, that trunk is enormous. It definitely looks like it could be that old, GA/FL. Thank you, T3, for such a beautiful post. Much to think about.

Jan Phillips

Thank you GA/FL!!!

GA/FL

And just across the valley is the Eastern Gate….sealed to try to keep Jesus from returning, they say.

Have to add ‘the garden tomb’ to that list.

Yes, it’s in another beautiful olive garden.

GA/FL

The tour leaders often serve ‘communion’ there in little olive wood cups. I still have mine from 1978 when we went with a tour to Israel.

Welcome Back, T*3!
😀
Thanks for the nice new thread…there’s much to reflect on there.

You mean holy week?
Yes, I think some posts about it would great, T*3…and I’m sure you would do a fine job with them.

Linux Mint is closer to WinXP than Win10 is. Just sayin’.
‘Cept, of course, it’s got better underpinnings and receives regular security updates.

T3– I switched out my SurfacePro 4 for a Surfacepro 6 due to it blowing up…And I lost my darned emojis!😂 took me all day to get em back!!! …(don’t like change grumble grumble) 😉

Marica

Yup!!! Glad to get one of our Constants back here at the Q tree!! 😘

ladypenquin

Good to see you, TTT. I loved your meditation musings, profound.
As you reboot your computer stuff, see Marica if you need emoticons. We helped her find them yesterday – I think! ❤

Sadie Slays

I feel dramatic calling this a “sign from God,” but I don’t know how else to interpret it.
I was in a foul mood about the world today, and decided to blow off some steam by doing yardwork. As I was in my sunroom preparing to go outside, I just shook my head and thought, “Ah well, God wins in the end” and opened my sliding door. Two things happened at that instant I had that thought. First, the neighborhood church bells started ringing. Second, the door got stuck. I maneuvered my way outside and immediately checked the door track to see what was blocking it. It was a snake. The sliding door trapped a snake. I’d never seen a snake on my property in all of the years I’ve lived here, but one just happened to show up at the exact instant a Biblical symbol was needed.
God wins, indeed.

Linda

That’s a great story, Sadie. That’s what I also try to remember every time I get angry or frustrated at all the evil around us or how slow it is to get justice for it. God does win and it will be in His time, not mine.

Marica

Great story Sadie!!! And It gave me cold chills too!!! LOVE “signs from GOD”😍😘

Marica

T3!!! Welcome Back!! Beautiful POST and so so happy you made it back to start this most special HOLY WEEK! Utopia–Is not here on earth and it will Never BE! So much truth regarding It would be so much easier if God lifted the “choice option” in our human conscience–But then we would simply be robots! HE allowed Good vs Evil because he LOVES us so very much–Free Will–
He has sent us so many prophets throughout time to bring us back to HIM! Jonah and Noah and Moses (the biggies) to finally–His very own son, JESUS! Which leads us to this Most Holy Week! I always struggle during Holy Week with the Reality of the Passion…that we could do to the SON of GOD what we (humanity) did!😢 And what we continue to do…
At the cost of sounding blasphemous–I believe President Donald J. Trump is God’s “last ditch” prophet to AWAKEN THE WORLD to EVIL and bring us back to HIM…From Abortion to Human Trafficking and Pedophelia…Our GOD has GOT to be DONE! GOD’s Will be Done.
Hugs T3!!! May we all have a Special and HOLY WEEK!

TatonkaWoman

Marica. I totally agree with what you said. I believe God is using our President to put the undeniable truth of good vs evil in front of each of us. Now is the time to choose what and who you will follow into eternity.

Marica

Tatonka!!! Hugs!!! Let’s keep praying more people realize THE GREAT AWAKENING is REAL!!!🤗

TatonkaWoman

God is showing us the reality of good vs evil, light vs dark, Himself vs Satan. No one will be able to stand before Him and say they were never given the chance to know or choose.
(funny, I tried for several minutes to type this on my tablet and it kept locking up after every couple of letters. Never did that before. PTL)

Book of Revelation Ch. 21 ver 1-3 says utopia will be here. It won’t ever be man-made (which is what I believe you meant).

ladypenquin

I don’t believe it’s “blasphemous” to believe that Donald J. Trump is “God’s last ditch prophet…” Many of us have lived a long, long time – and I’ve never seen anything like this in my lifetime – even in the time of Ronald Reagan.
It’s logical and reasonable to believe that the Lord hears the cries of His people… He knew what we needed, and God uses some of the most unlikely people to do His work. Having a man like DJT, who I believe knew many things decades ago, and then spent decades preparing for this, it can be explained by no other way then to believe in Divine Providence.
America was founded to be exactly what she is because of God’s Hand. George Washington was the first great leader who understood what was needed. President Lincoln sought to preserve America, but Donald Trump was made for this time to restore it and save it.
We’re in the midst of a Great Awakening, and God Willing, POTUS 45 will be with us long enough to reset our path – the need was in all areas, cultural and spiritual, not just political. but #MAGA knows that.

Jan Phillips

Amen, Lady P! Any news on your son? Did I miss you reporting on him? Still praying.

ladypenquin

Hi, Jan. Thank you for asking about my son. He hit a tough patch. Didn’t get the job in New Jersey, so still stuck in California, but he left the government job, it was a miserable one, and is starting a new career path.
He is still struggling regarding the girlfriend (almost fiance) breakup – talks to family every day, and that is helping. It hit him hard because he didn’t see it coming or even understand. But he is strong enough to see that her complaints made it clear they weren’t suited – I think she was just using him to have someone, and we know that she lied to him, because she never intended to leave California, and he intends to.
He is 32 and wants to be married and have a family. It’s really a tough world out there.
Your continued prayers are helpful. ❤

Jan Phillips

Thank you for the update, Lady P! My sons are older than your son, but I pray for them constantly. I will continue to pray for yours. Sons are very dear to my heart!! ❤️

GA/FL

If not a prophet – surely PDJT is an INSTRUMENT of GOD – and I truly believe that our President has offered himself as such.

Jan Phillips

Amen, Marica!!

Plain Jane

T3, wonderful. Garden Of Gethsemane picture is perfect for today. And welcome back.

You ask “Who wouldn’t want that?”. It appears, increasingly every day, that more and more are saying “Not I”.
Thomas Nagel Emeritus prof of phil. and law at “Haavud”, was uncommonly honest when he said in Mind and Cosmos that he did not believe in God because he did not want there to be a god. He was honest enough to admit that atheists had not made their case – they where effectively blinded by this bias (I am paraphrasing).
Dennet, Dawkins, Gould et al rejected this view and proceeded to treat him as a heretic …
As much as atheists have not made their case – so Christianity in the West is up against it. On this front, America – the most Christian nation in the West – is losing ground daily
The challenge for America, in striving to restore itself to greatness, is to have this battle of ideas anew – this is the challenge of the age. The battle lines are clearly drawn, with stark differentiation. The battle field is a free and open society, where free individuals can attempt to chart a better course. Freedom is an essential ingredient to this end and the American constitution is the best model yet contrived – this is why the world is watching, spellbound as this battle is engaged.
There is a sense that humanity has become too big to fail – the consequences of failure now could potentially make the 20’th century look rather “pedestrian” by comparison. I do not mean to be flippant – the horrors of the 20’th century where … nearly indescribable. Yet we are approaching the precipice again, with around 3 times the population, propaganda capable of being beamed into each household / individual instantly and loaded for bear on the nuke front …
No wonder “we” are watching this play out, agog …
So, in order to make America great again, it is not enough to secure the borders and the economy – this must happen, but a much bigger task is to make the case for “Why we are here?”. Materialism is clearly not the answer – that is what got us into this mess. The commies know this – that is why they have been ascendant. They so nearly “won” the prize …
Freedom, once won, must be treated as a magnificent gift – it is largely a historical anomaly. It is in fact ironic that true freedom comes with an obligation – responsibility. Freedom is NOT free …
Use it wisely, America. You have been calling the worlds best to you for centuries. If you can’t make it – no one can.

Marica

Beautifully stated Dear Jason. “Freedom, once won, must be treated as a magnificent gift” 😢💕
Powerful words…”Use is wisely, America. You have been calling the worlds best to you for centuries.” Extremely humbling… (no emoji..) “If you can’t make it–no one can.”— GOD’s Will and His Alone!!! Hugs!!!

JasonD

Thanks Marica – What each of you do every day MATTERS. This time that we are living is as consequential as it gets.
Us hangers on can cheer you on from afar, but you Americans occupy the main battlefield right now.
So God speed …

Marica

We Love you “hangers on”! –Cheering us on… ( Now I am literally crying…) Thank you…😘

JasonD

Marica, if you knew how you “project” across a computer screen, you would literally blush …
With you on the side of the good, the battle is so much the easier.
I don’t tweet or gab, but I bet you rock there. The world needs MOAR of you – and the virtual world is at your mercy – go get em …

Marica

Blushing!!!😳 Thank you sweetheart!!! LOL MOAR of me could be dangerous–Ask my family!!!😂 But yeh Baby!! I will Always “go get em” 🚀

ladypenquin

IKR, Jason? Marica had us all looking for her emoticons yesterday! 🙂 They were lost but now found. She, and all the Q-Treepers bring, goodness into our lives.

JasonD

She has a “virtual emotional super power”. She says her family warns that too much of Marica is overpowering IRL – I can see how that could be possible, if here mere typing skills can transmit it!!! LOL
Virtual Marica (VM)is not overpowering – VM is awesome!!
So I say, with great power comes great responsibility – she needs to be totally unleashed, virtually speaking – and become a #MAGA standard bearer. Forget #Walkaway, VM can become a mega #MAGA magnetic attractor … Or something 😉

Not all atheists are of this mindset–many wish that it were true, including one I (briefly) dated. I have no idea how many wish it were true, versus don’t even want it to be true. Of course, such a question is a false alternative, because really, your phrasing doesn’t specify which specific god they’re thinking of. Are we talking about atheists who don’t want there to be any god at all, or atheists who don’t want Christianity to be true, or atheists who are profoundly glad that Allah is fictitious, or…? The list is almost endless. Your paraphrasal of Nagel’s quote references a generic god (“a god”) in one place and God (presumably Yahweh) in another, so I am not sure what he’s talking about–if he does the same thing in his original statement, then perhaps he isn’t sure what he means, either.
Christopher Hitchens, for one, quite adamantly stated that he didn’t even want Christianity to be true (and he was most definitely talking about Christianity). His reasoning wasn’t the stereotypical “oh he just wants to sin,” either–but I’m not going to repeat it here as it would simply anger most of you.
As for not having made the case…well, it is very difficult to prove a negative[*], which is why one expects the person asserting that something exists to prove it. You might find this an all-too-convenient dodge of the question on my part, until someone demands that you disprove the existence of Allah.
Thoughtful atheists don’t claim to be able to prove there is no god, but merely state that no convincing proof of a god’s existence has ever been presented. [Please, don’t reply with your purported proof–the chance that it will be a proof I’ve never seen before are vanishingly small.] Even Richard Dawkins in The God Delusion only puts himself at 6 out of 7 on how positive he is that there is no god–where 7 is absolutely certain.
Anyhow, I’m frankly not interested in a long discussion about this, but I didn’t want to just let that pass. It does seem as if some people can’t resist taking pokes at atheists, for some reason.
[*] If something can be shown to be logically impossible, I would claim that’s actually proof of its nonexistence. For example, Euclidean triangles whose interior angles do not add up to 180 degrees are logically impossible, therefore I would consider that they have been proven not to exist. Beware, however, of flaws in your logic that make it only SEEM to be logically impossible.

JasonD

The beauty about living in a “free” society where freedom of speech (including ideas), association and thus religion are upheld as fundamental tenets is that ALL ideas must be treated as necessary …I won’t say equal, cause that seems a silly claim. So if an idea is necessary, then it should be expressed so that it can be evaluated – who knows what fruits or poison it may hold.
So no one who is bold enough to champion an idea should feel defensive – he/she is doing the public a service …
You are clearly extremely intelligent, well read and articulate – an able champion for your ideas. But you are also in the minority here – so I get the feeling that you are being poked. There will be more of it – you did not address my point that America has lost its way and needs to figure out what it is about.
We all seem to get that communism has gained a foothold in the seat of government. As you and Gail berated me last week – Every communist is an atheist, so why make a point of tacking on the word atheist in front communist?
Well, precisely because the dangerous form (and most common form) of communism is the atheist variety. Or to put it differently, “dangerous” communism is a subset of atheism (you and Gail made this claim, essentially). ALL communists are atheists, you state. So it thus logically follows that increasing atheism makes communism more likely.
So I would suggest that atheism look itself squarely in the mirror and figure out what to do about this – and don’t get defensive when other ideologies poke you about it.
If atheism was benevolent, we would be sipping pina coladas on Wheaties deck, revelling in the good life.
Islam, similarly incubates Islamofascism – you and I would likely find it uncontroversial to state that reducing the rate of Islamic migration reduces the risk of its extremist ideologies gaining significant foothold. The problem is, how do you institute that in a free society and maintain your freedom.
So back to the battle of ideas. You likely agree that this is necessary, because A – you responded to my post (good) and B, you hosted a discussion about establishing the groundwork for an objective morality – a tough ask that has not succeeded to date, but a noble objective…
Atheism is on the rise, so you should feel pretty bushy tailed …
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-06/number-americans-no-religion-has-soared-266-over-last-3-decades
But as I pointed out, this comes coupled with a rising threat of communism – a consequence of your world view. So, if you do not wish to see communism flourish, what is your solution?
As a non-atheist, who regards communism to be a bigger threat than islamofascism (in the near term), I would like to see less atheism, so to that end, I want the debate. That is the very point of the American constitution – having the debate to determine the path along which to walk …
To that end, I see the current crisis of American conscience as a failure of materialism. Material goods do not a life purpose make – it tastes like ash in your mouth, especially when over-indulged in. There is a surfeit of over-indulgence on display in the West. Rising obesity, drug use and suicide rates etc do not tell the tale of a healthy society. I suspect that the very success of capitalism, in supplying such an abundance and freedom from “want”, is a signal that something is missing in the material world view – another problem for the atheist to solve.
So you have your work cut out for you – and the stakes are too high to worry about poking. I believe we all respect you here, and you have demonstrated your relevant abilities plenty in the past. Your hour has come, I think – as has everyone else’s.
So let as engage this debate in the spirit of this Q tree – one of mutual respect. Call me out by all means if I fail in that area – I have some issues with occasional sloppy word use, and don’t always see how my tone could be perceived.
Having said all that, it is Sunday evening in Aus, I work full time (as I understand, do you), so my engagement will be sporadic if this is going to happen.
PS – I fully intend to offer an argument as to theism over atheism – and in the longer run, Christianity over the rest. That is what history is all about – settling these issues in time. We just happen to be alive in a time when these debates really matter – for us at least, but probably for future generations in a very consequential way

pgroup

I greatly appreciate your words. But you should stock up on patience, should you think that he can be convinced of the things we know. His mind is made up, and he even says so.

JasonD

I have an argument for that too, science based.
He won’t be able to resist 😉

Greg Cox

Nicely said! Out of curiosity, are you familiar with Bill Muehlenberg’s “Culture Watch” blog? He talks mostly about what is going on in Australia, but also world wide.
https://billmuehlenberg.com/
Also, do you recommend as a source, Lee Strobel’s book, The Case for Christ? I thought the movie was great also.

JasonD

Thanks …
No to the blog, but will check it out – second recommendation, so will have to make the effort 🙂
Have not read Strobel – will check out movie. My conversion is based on personal experience, followed by asking lots of questions, and trawling around on the internet.

But you are also in the minority here – so I get the feeling that you are being poked. There will be more of it

I imagine you’d know for sure about that, since you’re basically the one–out of all the others–doing it.
There are a lot of profoundly religious people on this board, ones who never post without referencing the Bible or their faith in general. Yet they have the courtesy not to take swipes at those who don’t agree with them. I can get along with them, because they aren’t going out of their way to sneer at atheists as a class.

you did not address my point that America has lost its way and needs to figure out what it is about.

Interestingly enough, I agree with that bare statement.
America has indeed lost its way.
Our descriptions of how and why would, I imagine, differ quite a lot.

Uh, do you really want to argue like this? Because it can be turned around with the greatest of ease. Consider:
All Muslims are religious. So it thus logically follows that increasing religiosity makes Islam more likely.
Clearly, it matters a GREAT deal which kind of atheism (or which kind of religiosity) is in question. In fact, I maintain that the “which type” is MORE important than the atheism vs. theism. I’d rather live in a society filled with Christians than one filled with communists, and I would hope you’d rather live in a society filled with atheists somewhat like me than you would, in a Muslim society.
There are good and bad subsets of each; that’s not a reason to complain about the growth of the whole larger category. If you want to complain about the growth of Marxian communism’s following, then complain about the growth of Marxian communism, and leave the rest of us atheists the hell out of it.
I know you’re only hanging the “atheist” tag on commies to distinguish them from religious people living on communes, but for reasons I went into last time, that’s a) unnecessary in a community talking about politics–we all know that “commie” means the Marxist kind unless otherwise stated–and b) not even the best way to go about it–you could, for instance, if you really feel you must make the distinction in a political environment, call them Marxists or Marxian Communists–which has the virtue of being precise and more descriptive.
Unless, of course, your real reasons for your particular choice of words is actually somewhat different.
I spend time here in large part to find common ground with people who are, of course, quite different from me, but in order for that to work we have to respect each other despite our differences…and NOT dwell on those differences. That’s simply divisive.
So please, just leave us non-communist atheists the hell out of it. I routinely extend the analogous courtesy–in fact, it wouldn’t have occurred to me (until now!) to do otherwise–with regard to theists and Islam. But maybe from now on I should go out of my way to use the phrase “Religious Muslims” or “Theistic Muslims” every time I want to talk about Muslims.
In fact, I probably WOULD do so, if it were just you and me here, but I really rather like most of the people on this board and there’s no reason to insult their religiosity that way. In your case, it’d be a role reversal to get you to see how ridiculous your behavior is, but to them, it’d be a passive-aggressive swipe…just as what you’re doing is to me.

JasonD

Free speech is difficult – it is probably THE issue which sets America above the rest of the West. It is rare, precisely because it is hard.
Free speech is necessary because humans use abstract ideas to determine how they should conduct themselves.
So it is necessary, but hard. This is recognised in every daily post lead. If the rules included “don’t talk about ideas” – this site would die. We are all congregated here, in the Q Tree, because we have pretty much all been banned by ideological “brothers and sisters” … So yeah, its hard because people do not like to have their ideas challenged.
I conceded upfront that I have had it pointed out to me IRL that I have issues with tone. I will seek to improve, and you are welcome to keep pointing out my deficiencies. Perhaps, in the interest of brevity, you can use one word pointers.
I never attacked you, as a person. I believe that I listed what I saw as some of your obvious attributes. But I am “poking” (your word choice) your ideas. I have poked Christian’s re the death penalty, I have ridiculed the idea of tanks on the border as a deterrent to unarmed people as potentially fatal to America’s existence in it current form. So I am “poking” where I disagree. If we all agreed with each other we would learn precisely nothing – it would just be another form of entertaining time wasting.
I will be posting my views sporadically. It will be far more valuable with your rebuttal / input.
If I get no responses, I will obviously give it up – so that would be one rather large signal that I am barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

The gripe is, you are poking atheism qua atheism unnecessarily, trying to associate it with leftism.
If you want to have a discussion about atheism directly that’s one thing, but you’re essentially talking about political developments here, and the lack of religiosity of many people on the other side is a side issue in that context. It would be analogous to me constantly harping on how Muslims are religious. There’d be no reason for me to harp on that unless I were trying to claim that a belief in God is the *cause* of their atrocious behavior and ethics.
At most, I could say that a *misguided* belief in God is the cause. And similarly, a misguided belief in the implications of there (probably) not being a god may or may not be the cause of a lot of forms of leftism (it would depend on whether their arguments run: “No god->expropriate property and redistribute it to the people.” or “Expropriate property and redistribute it to the people. OBTW, there’s no god.”)
Atheism is nothing more, and nothing less, than one possible answer to the question “Is there a god?” And it’s not quite the “Hell no!!!” answer; it’s really closer to “there’s inadequate reason to believe there is.”
As such, there’s no reason it need necessarily connect to political leftism. There’s no logical connection between “There is no reason to believe in god” and “We should enslave all of humanity and make everyone equal.”
Most if not all of the people here support some sort of conservative politics, and I could imagine different reasons for them to do so: 1: “God told me to,” 2: “God made the world in such a way that conservative politics works best.” 2a: “…and He therefore commands them, for our benefit,” 2b: “…and since they work best I support them” or 3 (mine): “Objectively speaking conservative positions (most of them) are more in accordance with the nature of humanity and reality and therefore they should be supported.” [I imagine you could knock that around and twist it to mean something I didn’t intend so please take that as a “rough draft.”] And also, some positions taken by the “right” are definitely not mine, and there are large divides on the right on some issues, e.g., “What should be done to people who burn the flag?”
Personally I can get along with 2b and sometimes with 2a…but 1 scares me; all it would take to “flip” a person who is on the Right for reason 1 is to convince them they misunderstood God. 2b is a recognition of the fact that reality makes conservative positions more sensible than leftist ones; the disagreement with me would be over *why*. In a political context, *why* doesn’t really matter, we end up advocating for the same things. 2a can be a bit bothersome to me because, in short, I feel that if reality favors conservative policies, one should be able to show that without reference to “God said.” The reality is here, we can observe it, and determine what is most in accord with it. You shouldn’t *need* for God to say so to believe it. And if you do, you’re subject to the same sort of subornation that can occur with Case 1.
Anyhow….
As regards tone, I definitely “feel your pain.” One time on a totally different blog, I responded to someone pretty much as follows. “Cue the anti-**** people in three…two…one. You haters ought to …. ” (and I don’t remember what **** was, but it was something not the main topic of the blog (it was a gun blog). Well, my first mistake was saying “you” instead of “those”, and my first was putting a paragraph break in. I was intending to denounce only a small number of bigots, and it came across as calling everyone in that comments section a “hater.”
I quite justifiably had flaming napalm-soaked $#!+ rained down on me for that one. An hour later I had 27 highly-negative responses, many from people I would have figured would know me better than that. But…it was my mistake. I try to tread carefully now; I don’t always succeed.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Fair enough. I’m not trying to run him off or anything; I just would like him to be a little more mindful, not everyone on the MAGA bandwagon is on the Christian bandwagon or even the Theist Bandwagon.

JasonD

There is a fair bit here, let me just say that your 1. above scares the crap out of me as well – one of the reasons that I rejected religion for over 25 years. I still will not set foot in a church, due to the rampant corruption that I have both read about and seen. Power corrupts, and purporting to speak for God, well, lets just say that the adage holds far too often.
I suspect you will find we have much in common – the very limited view I have of you through this medium is one of a person that I would like to chew the cud with.
I have seen a bit of Richard Feynman speak – he is freaking great. I understand that he is an atheist. That has not coloured my view of him in the least. I think he is wrong, but I have no clue what logic he brought to bear – I suspect it was formidable.
It is late here, so I will respond more fully in the next day – possibly 2. I have poked the Christianity in T^3’s Revenge post, not sure what the responses will be ….

Greg Cox

If you’ve read it, what did you think about the book by former atheist and journalist, Lee Strobel, “The Case for Christ”?

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I haven’t read it.
I should clarify. I haven’t read every single apologetic book, but I would be greatly surprised if there is an apologetic argument for the existence of god that I haven’t seen yet. To put it bluntly, I’d be greatly surprised if Strobel actually has anything new to say on that.
However, on further reflection I recognize that he may have something new with respect to Christianity in particular–i.e., showing–given that there is a god–that the Bible is written/inspired by that god, and that that god is therefore capital-G God (Yahweh). The Bible being something like 850,000 words long, I imagine it can continue to be mined for such arguments for millennia to come, and perhaps Strobel has found something new.
Convincing an atheist that Christianity is true would be a two step process–first, convince the atheist that, logically speaking, there must be an entity that is godlike: one that created the universe, is in control of the universe. Then, convince the now-theist (he’s no longer an atheist) that the Bible could only have been written or inspired by that entity, and therefore describes that entity, and what he wants from us, accurately. If successful, that person now believes the Christian worldview is true.
(Of course, then he would have to be persuaded to pick which side he’s on–but that’s separate from convincing him it’s true, so I didn’t count it as a third step in the process of convincing him it’s true.)
[There is a shortcut of course; one could try to argue that the very existence of the Bible is itself sufficient evidence that God exists, so both steps would be combined into one if that were successful.]

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

If the conversation is “how has America lost its way” then I agree, that’s a good conversation to have, especially if all opinions are welcome.
If the discussion is predicated on the PREMISE–i.e., it takes it as a GIVEN–that the USA lost its way due to turning away from Christianity…then knock yourself out, but I likely won’t find it interesting; I’ll have no common point of reference. It’d be like watching two doctors arguing how to treat a patient they misdiagnosed, and them not wanting to hear that maybe they misdiagnosed the problem.

Deplorable Patriot

The unfortunate reality is that America seemed to lose its way as Christianity went into decline, and various sects started adopting worldliness. Are the two related? Simple reasoning would indicate so as the lack of manners, and failure of social building blocks also increased as Christianity’s influence waned.

JasonD

I have deferred when I am starting to blog, likely beginning late May. It is obviously a significant undertaking. I have pretty much outlined what, and the order there of, I will be blogging about. Sadly, I have no idea how to manage the mechanics of the site, so I need to put myself through a crash course, starting after Easter.
To that end, I will pass on your suggestion for now (assuming Wolf thinks it worthwhile) – to focus on the learning.
My notion, assuming my posts in the daily thread garners any interest and engagement, is to post new thoughts in the relevant day’s thread, with a link to the previous day. This can then form an interlinked chain of ideas over time. Seems clunky, I know. If it attracts sufficient interest / engagement, we should re-look at your suggestion. Who knows, Steve may end up driving it? Or the mechanics of setting up head posts may be a piece of cake …?

JasonD

As I hit “send”, I realised that I was likely to get this response … 🙂

Deplorable Patriot

I don’t want to get too much into this, but as a person of Faith, I actually think the “convincing” is not a matter of words and making a case as it is experiencing actual spiritual peace and healing. There are no words to describe it, and this is why I’m convinced, because of the inner peace I get at Adoration and a couple times when the spiritual healing via the Sacraments was profound. Those personal experiences are not going to convince anyone else, but they did convince me.
As for treatment of others, there is no call to be nasty. In fact, the call is quite the opposite. Charity and hospitality are supposed to be a part of life for us.

singingsoul

I believe people live in different realities and I can accept that. Some of us know there is a God and a living Christ.
Others have created their own reality that are named differentley and believe it to be true.
Freedom is wonderful I can feel secure in my believe and another can feel free in theirs.
I heard a story several yers ago visiting a Monastery a person told about their friend “who had left Christianity as a youth in his late 60 was stricken with cancer. He finally in desperation threw himself to the mercy of God and Christ and payed hard as he never had before.”
We all find faith at different times in life some of us early others late and some we never know.

Alison

T3 and all my dear Treepers – this is a lovely post and every comment is precious. In any given moment – highest joy or deepest despair – praying “Thank you, Jesus” is my saving grace.
I love the photos. Visiting Israel is on my bucket list. This week we have much to celebrate – in both our earthly and heavenly realms.
Tonight I pray for our fallen warriors, especially those who have succumbed to PTSD. I pray that our nation will do more to help these men & women who have come home broken from their deployments. They have served us well, and we are failing to support them just when they need us the most.

Marica

Alison!! ❤💕❤❤❤🛐 times 1000!!! We don’t pray enough for our warriors on the front line and their families!!

Alison

Marica – for some reason, there were more than a few tweets coming through my feed today that were tributes to military personnel who have passed away, saying they lost their battle with PTSD. A vet from Viet Nam era tweeted about his daily – and nightly – struggles.
I wept for every one of them. Our nation’s priorities have become so purposely distorted. The stain we carry in not caring for these walking wounded is unbearable to me. I am ashamed of our neglect, and we will pay a heavy price for failing them.
@CodeofVets is a good one to follow
Love you, Sweet Marica 💖💖

Marica

Love you right back my dearest Alison!!😘😘

grandmaintexas

Thank you for this. A little request. Please, even a breath prayer for a young military wife and mom I know, who struggles with her husband’s frequent deployments. She is a brand new Christian and could use some angelic comfort. Thanks in advance.

grandmaintexas

Perfectly said. Thank you.

Praying now, grandmaintexas.

What obfuscation from the Dim’s …
So the DOJ can investigate an opposing candidate / POTUS on “some or other premise” – but the DOJ cannot question itself?? Really? On what planet does that even make any sense. The head of a department cannot question his own department? This discombobulation personified …
Listen to Comey’s voice inflection and head movement every time he utters a whopper – classic tells that even an introvert can recognise …

Sylvia Avery

TY, Wheatie. I hadn’t watched it and it was worth watching. And I always like to see what she is wearing. She has a beautiful wardrobe.

Nope – not watching her again until she shows some backbone – guess money is too important to her.

They cut them in half!

I am going to be writing a three thousand dollar check to the IRS this weekend.
However, I had to do that last year as well. My withholding dropped exactly as much as my taxes decreased.
I’ve adjusted the withholding so that (hopefully) it will come out a lot more even in the future.

This ought to quell the scurrilous rumors that I spend my time counting, or something.
It has been 706 days since I was banned OT.
If I had been counting, I’d have said something six days ago, now wouldn’t I?

grandmaintexas

The sting for me is that it was unwarranted. I’ve pondered why for a bit. I was not a huge commenter and I had no footprint to speak of.
Sometimes when I read the numerous comments OT that seek to discourage any sense of justice happening, I think there might be an element of controlled opposition.
But we have this lovely tree and God is in His Heaven and Holy Week is here. Easter is almost upon us!

Sylvia Avery

Hugs to you, grandma. I’m glad you are here with us. I’ll always wonder why, but I’m grateful to be here and feel that it worked out for the best.

grandmaintexas

So true. It’s a whole different atmosphere.

ladypenquin

I can’t imagine anyone who has “grandma” in their name would ever be offensive enough that they lost their posting privs! But as to the atmosphere, that was what led me to give up almost entirely, until NYGuy found me. It’s as if most are the type where “misery loves company” and instead of thoughtful analysis and input so that one could increase their knowledge and understanding, the commenters are practically drowning themselves in negativity. Never a good thing.

Gail Combs

VERY DEPRESSING!
After the 2018 election I would watch a Praying Medic vid to lift my spirits. I could not stand all the EEYORES. If there is a problem, brainstorm to FIX IT DARN IT!!! Do not sit there and wallow in negativity!
Thank goodness Hubby stumbled upon this wewbsite when he went hunting for it.

ladypenquin

I thought the “good” posters had just decided to read and not comment, like myself. For me, found myself just avoiding the site, though occasionally I would check in, SD does have some useful informational posts, but the shift in the threads was too depressing for me.
Believing we’re losing, when in fact, we’re winning, is illogical – and uses up emotional energy. One can never give up, else Evil wins.

grandmaintexas

Well said. I do read the articles but usually give up on the comments because as you said they are full of negativity.

Stewing and doing a slow burn, OTOH….

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Why would you be doing a thing like that?

Deplorable Patriot

Me? I’m not stewing. I haven’t even been OT to check and see if I was banned.

Neither have I. I see no point in raising my blood presure again. Also, unfortunately, I now find SD ‘suspect’ I just can not trust someone who is so petty as to BAN people for what they might say at ANOTHER SITE if they respect his.

Then there is another storm,or sorts… another giant Wikileaks dump. I read about it OT… and I don’t know what to make of it..

I’ve been sitting here waiting for the storms to arrive, praying for the Lord’s mercy on folks in the path of this front.

Pigloosi has a MAJOR problem. She has two loose cannon anti-American Anti-semite congresswomen mouthing off. (Wealthy Jews are more likely to cough up $$$ for the Dims while the muslimes just TAKE $$$)
1 Mar 1, 2019 ABC (Aus) — “Mohamed Noor pleads not guilty to shooting murder and manslaughter of Justine Damond Ruszczyk”

….Judge Kathryn Quaintance also ruled that prosecutors could not use Mr Noor’s prior acts as a police officer against him, including pointing a gun at a motorist during a traffic stop….

Mar 2, 2019 NBC — Rep. Ilhan Omar blasted again for what critics call anti-Semitism
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/rep-ilhan-omar-criticized-again-what-critics-call-anti-semitism-n978521
Omar is a Somali-American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district [Minneapolis PLUS] since 2019. The Mall of America is a shopping mall located in Bloomington, Minnesota. It lies southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, across the Interstate from the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport.
Friday she has a muslim IN MINNESOTA arrested for tossing a five year old to his possible death at that mall. A Commenter 2 hours ago says the little boy died.

…The 24 year-old is a black Muslim which is a detail you didn’t know about because of the fake news altering the facts. MrChiCity3. 1 hour ago. CBS for some reason didnt show us a picture of the “24 year old man” or mention his skin color…
https://attvideo.com/video/zKAK6X4GM1U_5-year-old-plummets-off-balcony-at-mall-of-america-possibly-after-being-pushed-or-thrown.html

And yes, the Daily Mail has pictures and he is BLACK:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6916735/Five-year-old-child-thrown-floor-World-America-mall.htmlcomment image
Now people are bringing up 9/11 and it is CLEAR AMERICAN PATRIOTS got targeted NOT muslimes. A discussion like I outlined yesterday about the logic defying 180 degree response of the US government to 9/11 is NOT what the Dims need running up to the all important 2020 election.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Even with the help of the Fake News, it is hard to ignore the raping of your daughters and killing of your sons by DEVOUT Muslims. And NOW Pigloosi has President Trump and Q and the ANONS to contend with and not unorganized peons.

Pat Frederick

as for Omar and her death threats…it’s just “some people saying something…”

pgroup

Perfect!!! You win the internet for a day.

pgroup

Noor’s history as a cop is relevant to credibility assessment. The judge’s ruling is legal error UNLESS she concluded that the revelation of that history was more prejudicial than probative. With evidence to support that conclusion. The better practice is to admit the evidence and let defense counsel argue against admittance. If he’s then convicted, the appeals court can rule she should have excluded it.
As this stands right now, if she’s legally wrong and he walks, there’s nothing the prosecution can do about her error. If I was the prosecutor, I would seek permissive review on this critical ruling. No way would I let her be the last word on it since it’s my responsibility to protect the citizens from an obviously dangerous person (yeah presumed innocent and all that).
Muslims are a cultural menace on a good day.

Gail Combs

WOW!
It is really nice to know that a corrupt judge does not have the last say on critical evidence. Thank you.

ladypenquin

I posted this yesterday, and again today. As an RN, I must say the little boy’s outlook is dire, but prayer for strength and comfort for his family would be most helpful. God does work miracles through healing hands, and that may happen.
As it’s Sunday, I must set aside how I feel about the person who did this, but neither do I believe the Lord expects us accept Evil people…

MA_kswiss

Praying for this little boy and his family. Unbelievable and horrific. When I read this news my heart just broke….

additional details about the attacker–he’s a Somali from Omar’s district…
has she tweeted her well wishes for the boy?

ladypenquin

Pat, no she hasn’t, and I consider her almost as evil as the man who did this. It’s their belief system which is being groomed in the midst of our society that enabled this to happen.
She should be expelled from the Congress – she is clearly working against America.

Pat Frederick

My knowledge of Islam is thin.
That being said: I know there are instances where it mandates killing people, but I can’t quite imagine this is one of them.
This may be a nut who happens to be Islam, rather than Islam itself that is the problem. Or to put it another way, he actually might not have killed the child because he thought Allah wanted him to.
Yeah, I realize I’m being very speculative.

This person write what we all know in the back of our head. Wolfie worte of it just last night.
It is NOW OK TO HURT WHITE FOLKS‼️
We saw it when the bikelock Ethics Prof bashed seven people in the head and got probation but the guy who left bacon in a mosque got FIFTEEN YEARS for a NON-VIOLENT crime against a ‘protected class’ We saw it when Kate’s CONFESSED MURDERER walked free without even manslaughter charges because he was an Illegal Alien.

….Occasionally, I’ll go back and read an email someone sent me. It’s from the wife of an individual who was murdered by blacks. She simply thanked me for writing about how her husband was murdered and for honoring his life in someway (because few media outlets where it happened even bothered to cover the story). She ended by writing, “Apparently, it’s just okay to murder white people nowadays.”
It was heartbreaking when I read the email the first time and it’s difficult to read today.
But it’s when reading about what happened to Landen Hoffman, a five-year-old white boy, that the impact of what she wrote to me became overwhelming….

reading some articles from earlier about Dems demanding POTUS’s tax returns and Illinois now saying without 5 years of his tax returns, they will not put Trump on the ballot in 2020.
I like to read the comments to these articles and one comment struck me as interesting (I do not know the veracity of it). But it went like this: POTUS ALSO has the “right” to see anyone’s tax return (as head executive) and after he declassifies the sexual harassment slush fund recipients, he could cherry pick a few returns of those people. According to the commenter, the discharge of a complaint using the “slush fund” represents an “income” to those people and it must be reported as such…not sure if ANY of that is true, but it sure made me smile…
as to Illinois, the writer proposed that it was unconstitutional for states to add additional “requirements” to the requirements constitutionally set for running for President. And disallowing a major party’s candidate is voter suppression…again, not sure of the veracity of these claims, but made me smile too…

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I should think that even if constitutional, Illinois would need to have passed a law to do this.
I didn’t get the sense that they had done so, rather that this was some state office-holder, maybe even an appointee, who is just mouthing off.
The “good” news is that Illinois is unlikely to vote red this time around–if it does, then it’s such a deep landslide (450+EVs to Trump) that their EVs are unneeded.

Deplorable Patriot

The tax returns are a matter of fixation for the people on the left. Other than being told that they should care about this by the network news they consume, I wonder what they hope to prove when VSG has been audited annually for years and no wrongdoing is ever found.

Speaking of Assange, I was wondering if there was a “deadman switch” or a “drop” held as insurance.
Seems there was one over the weekend, at least from Chiefio’s and a few other sites’ views:

Assange might hold on to his information as security. If he is harmed all bets will be off in my opinion and as long as he is not in danger he has something to negotiate with.
Personally I have mixed feelings about him in one way we need people like him they keep government honest otherwise they really go off the rail. In another way maybe let to much info out but the government has responsibility also to hirer people with ethics and not engage in illegal activity.
I feel sorry for Assange he was set up with the sexual thing and then 8 years in the embassy and those people abused him.
I might change my mind if more comes out and it is in truth.

Will they be favorable changes? Or the usual bullshit that earned him the nickname “Grahamnesty”?

phoenixRising

Judging by President Trump’s tweets and Stephen Miller acting as Tsar, I am inclined to believe this announcement, this ‘package’ legislation is being coordinated with the Oval Office. POTUS will be applying leverage of the movement of illegals into Sanctuary Cities, the rapidly increasing number of confirmations of Judges and the now achieved conservative control of SCOTUS……….. to move the guaranteed Senate legislation through the House. I absolutely do not see it as a ‘Graham’ package, although a ‘Graham’ initiative, but as a VSG POTUS move, one which will be orchestrated during the excessive two week Congressional Recess. ymmv

phoenixRising

I would add that Graham already has the necessary votes in the Senate, or he would not have announced his plans. It’s been my observation that Republican senators (and Congress critters) have lately been uniting behind President Trump… even a worm turns

phoenixRising
phoenixRising

It’s obvious to anyone with only two neurons to synapse…
Detention Centers designated for housing illegal immigrants are located in Sanctuary Cities. There’s nothing illegal about HDS sending them there… contrary to George Steppin’ Lightly’s pov, stated in interview with Sarah above…
https://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/ICE-detention-California-finds-poor-conditions-13647315.php
#4 in San Franciso, home of US Congresswoman Nasty Nan, is my pick for first stop. After all, the Counties contract with the US Federal Gov’t to lease these facilities; they certainly should not remain empty. And the local Sheriff can send their vehicles to pick up the illegals and take them to the Detention Centers. And when the Centers are filled, the Sanctuary States/Cities can provide tents and port-a-potties for them.

Small article about kamala harris releasing tax info. As expected, do as I say not as I do dimm, gave little to nothing to any charity year over year. I despise these people.
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has released 15 years of tax returns, including her returns for 2018, and the California senator reports that she and her husband had a federal tax bill of about $700,000 on an adjusted gross joint income of about $1.9 million last year.
The documents released Sunday provide the fullest picture of her finances as she pursues a White House bid.
Harris reported an income of about $157,000 in 2018 from her job as a senator, as well as about $320,000 in net income as a writer; a book she wrote was published earlier this year. Her husband, Doug Emhoff, earned about $1.5 million working as an attorney.
Harris is the latest Democratic presidential contender to release her taxes. President Donald Trump has continued to refuse to release his since the 2016 presidential campaign, when he became the first nominee in decades to buck the tradition of disclosure. House Democrats are pressing for access to Trump’s tax returns, which would give lawmakers far greater insight into the president’s business dealings and potential conflicts of interest, as they exercise their oversight role.
Harris and her husband reporting giving a small portion of their income — often about 1% to 3% a year — to charitable causes. Harris reported no charitable contributions some years when she was California’s attorney general.
The Democrats who are running for president in 2020 have released their tax returns to varying degrees.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York released her 2018 tax return in late March and urged her colleagues to do the same. She was the first Democratic candidate to do so. Gillibrand has released her returns annually since 2012. That year, she released her returns dating back to 2007.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts released a decade of her tax returns, as well as her 2018 returns.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar this month released 12 years of tax returns, dating to 2006, when she first became a candidate for federal office.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who released just one year of tax returns when he ran for president in 2016, said more than a month ago that he would release a decade’s worth of returns. He and his campaign have said they will release his tax returns by Monday’s tax filing deadline.

SMH – talk about someone who is brain dead!!!! So she thinks black women are still being raped by their owners and thereby getting pregnant, so they should have a longer time to murder their babies??!!??
“On Wednesday, the Ohio House and Senate each voted to pass Senate Bill 23 known as The Heartbeat Bill. Today, Governor Mike DeWine signed the bill, which will ban abortions once a preborn baby’s heartbeat is detected, usually around six weeks gestation. In a shocking move this week, Rep. Janine Boyd (D) proposed an amendment that would have allowed the bill to protect all children older than six weeks from abortion except for African-American children. (Her full remarks can be found here at the 51:45 mark – HT: Created Equal).
“I consider the slave trade and how black slaves were once treated like cattle and put out to stud in order to create generations of more slaves,” she said. “I consider how many masters raped their slaves. I consider how many masters forced their slaves to have abortions and I consider how many pregnant slaves self-induced abortions so that they would not contribute children they had to the slave system that was the foundational economic system of our country – our younger country.”
Stating that the United States is still a young country “trying to find ourselves almost like teenagers,” she said the U.S. “is not far enough beyond our history to legislate as if it is.”
But what Boyd proposed with this amendment is that preborn African-Americans should continue to be treated like disposable property, just as slaves were. She notes that slaves were treated like cattle, an expression we have heard countless times from post-abortive women in regards to how the abortion facilities have treated them. Oppression has simply been passed down to the most innocent among us: human beings in the womb, who are treated as non-persons.”

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno reclines in a luxury hotel bed with a large platter of lobster. WikiLeaks is accused of leaking this picture, leading to Assange being kicked out of the embassy
This is the photo that reportedly got Julian Assange kicked out of the Ecuadorian embassy.
The image shows Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno in a gray t-shirt, smiling as he reclines in a luxury hotel bed with a large platter of lobster. The picture caused uproar in the South American country since it shows the president taking it easy as austerity measures were imposed on his people.
It was part of a trove of damaging documents and photos that Moreno, 66, accused WikiLeaks of leaking.
The president reportedly finally decided to kick the WikiLeaks founder out of his country’s embassy in London last week after getting wind of the plot to blackmail him with the documents.
“The president is a very calm person,” said the senior official, who was involved in the raid’s coordination. “But when he gets angry he can be very determined.”

Probably one of the top 10 most arrogant men in recent memory. He is a traitor.
Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and 2020 presidential hopeful said the Second Amendment was not an absolute right.
Discussing his proposal to “ban possession of military-style semi-automatic assault weapons,” Swalwell said, “You know, keep your pistols, keep your long rifles, keep your shotguns. I want the most dangerous weapons, these weapons of war, out of the hands of the most dangerous people. But when it comes to what else we can do, because I don’t even suggest this is all we can do, I also want background checks. So do 73% of NRA members.”
When asked if he wants to repeal the Second Amendment, Swalwell said, “No I don’t agree but I think the greatest threat to the 2nd Amendment is doing nothing. The Second Amendment is not an absolute right. Just like free speech, you can’t shout fire in a theater or lie about the products you are selling. You can’t own a bazooka. You can’t own a tank. You cant own rocket propelled grenades. We should put some limits in place, and I think the American people are with me. I’m no longer intimidated by the NRA.”

“… I also want background checks. So do 73% of NRA members.” ~ swalwell
Speaking of background checks, we would very much like one on you… a lot cheaper than 73% of NRA members… and more useful.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

LOL…but all the NICS check is, is for a criminal record and other stuff.
Unless Swallowwell has actually been convicted of something, it wouldn’t turn up squat.
All that being said, unless something has changed recently, the NRA does support the current law requiring background checks at gun stores. Which is unfortunate, because they really have no good argument when someone asks “Why not extend them to other firearms purchases? If they’re a good thing at gun shops, then why not at gun shows? Or private sales?”

Kalbo

Personally against all background checks. Don’t care if the gun is sold via FFL or private party.
NICS makes mistakes…false positives. When that happens the wannabe gun buyer must clear his name. – Time and money.
– More importantly the wanna be gun buyer is denied his Second Amendment Rights. Temporary or long term denial, is wrong.
https://gunowners.org/fs08112016/

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Agreed, opposed to all background checks.
The NRA ain’t.

debutromance

Here is my response to that: guns are private property. If the government can interfere in private dealings between two individuals who want to swap their property, where does that stop?
Frankly, it is nobody’s business and most certainly not the business of the government, how many or what kind of guns I choose to own. If they decide to make it their business, say goodbye to private property, good-bye to liberty; good-bye to country. Hello, tyranny.
Another point: no matter how many tanks, bazookas, grenades, or anything of the sort I own does not turn me into a bloodthirsty killer.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Just in case it wasn’t clear, I do NOT support background checks under any circumstances.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

We have a few bald eagles in socal. This particular nest is in Big Bear at the lake. 2 eggs, one just hatched. People are so excited theres a full time webcam.

One of two bald eagle eggs in a nest near Big Bear Lake hatched Sunday morning, and the Friends of Big Bear Valley’s Eagle Cam streamed the event live.
The pair of eagles welcomed their first egg on March 6, and a second on March 9, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
One of the eggs could be seen cracking Saturday as the chick inside began to break through the shell, or “pip,” right on schedule. The chick emerged around 8:20 a.m. on Sunday.

“The incubation period for bald eagle eggs averages around 35 days,” the USFS said in a written statementafter the second egg arrived last month. “The parents will switch off incubation duties to keep the eggs warm as the embryos develop. If all goes well, including if the eggs were fertilized in the first place during mating, chicks should hatch in early to mid-April.”
This year’s bald eagle count confirmed 13 of the raptors living in Southern California, officials said. They include six in Big Bear, one at Lake Arrowhead, one at Lake Hemet, two at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area and three at the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area.
Volunteers counted 11 bald eagles in Southern California in 2017, and 15 in 2017.
“Several dozen bald eagles typically spend their winter vacations around Southern California’s lakes, adding to a few resident nesting bald eagles that stay year-round,” according to the statement. “Agency biologists recruit the public to help monitor the local population by conducting simultaneous counts.”
The area near the nest, which is on National Forest land near the north shore of Big Bear Lake, is off-limits to the public until both chicks have fledged, officials said. The eagles could be disturbed by human interference and abandon their nest if they feel threatened.

I doubt this makes headlines anywhere outside the midwest, but we had mega high winds last night and the damage is not pretty. Fortunately, we still have power. Thousands are without, though. A house in my ‘hood lost two trees in the front yard, one looked to be about a 50 year old pine, the other a Bradford pear. There’s reports of trees down all over.
But, the shocking one, the wind ripped the roof off of the Old Cathedral, the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, which is on the Arch grounds, built 1831-1834 The interior was restored not that long ago, and water did go through.

It goes without saying that I am grateful for life, my faith, friends, family, and being born in America (thanks to my parents for deciding to legally make America their home country many years ago). However, I’m also grateful for my President…..more than one can begin to imagine. I’ll probably sound like a nutcase, but I genuinely believe that Trump was divinely selected for this particular time. The demonic one known as 44 claimed to be a unifier, but he succeeded in doing the complete opposite. I believe that POTUS is going to be the true unifier for our country.

Pat Frederick says
“…..I like to read the comments to these articles and one comment struck me as interesting (I do not know the veracity of it). But it went like this: POTUS ALSO has the “right” to see anyone’s tax return (as head executive) and after he declassifies the sexual harassment slush fund recipients, he could cherry pick a few returns of those people. According to the commenter, the discharge of a complaint using the “slush fund” represents an “income” to those people and it must be reported as such…not sure if ANY of that is true, but it sure made me smile…”
…..
According to the commenter, the discharge of a complaint using the “slush fund” represents an “income” to those people and it must be reported as such
I am fairly sure that is correct if the Tax codes have not changed too much. It would be classified as the same as an ‘In Kind’ or ‘Barter’ type of income just as rome and board is taxable for live in housekeepers and nannys.

Barter and Payment in Kind – What happens when income is paid in goods and services?
When it comes to calculating income, it is not always as straightforward as how much salary an employee earns on their paycheque. Sometimes income also comes in the form of goods and/or services.
But what are you to do if an insured tells you they were provided with an apartment rent-free in exchange for working as a handyman in a building?
How do we translate those goods and services into income when determining Income Replacement Benefits (IRB)?
Summary
The most important thing to remember is that goods and services earned through employment are considered income.

thanks Gail, my smile just got bigger…so if they didn’t report that settlement as income, they would be guilty of tax fraud? LOL…

This could get VERY interesting.
Remember President Trump has SEVERAL weapons he can unleash.
1. Moving ALL newly released illegals to the cities within certain DemonRats districts.
2. WITHHOLDING $$$ from sanctuary states/cities until they comply with federal laws***
3. ICE raiding cities/counties in neighboring Conservative states ecouraging illegals to move to nearby sanctuary areas within DemonRat states.
4. Moving the state national guard to the border
THE BIGGIE
5. REFUSING TO SIGN CONTINUING RESOLUTION?BUDGET and shutting down the US government. This is the real arm turner since it is the PORK that the DemonRats RELY ON to bribe their voters.
Remember a law passed by the Senate remain ALIVE AND IN PLAY until December 31 2019. 😉
______________
***Unless there is a timetable IN THE LAW AS WRITTEN the Admin can release the $$$ on what ever schedule they want. (December 31st 2019) Also with a national emergency AND non-compliance of Federal law, President Trump could possibly wait until the case goes all the way to the Supreme Court before complying.
I really do not see a DemonRat House as much of a ‘defeat’ for President Trump since he can UNLEASH his entire arsenal against Congress now.

Gail Combs

OH, I forgot to mention. One tax site said 50% of a state’s revenue COMES FROM THE US GOVERNMENT! So this really is a very big arm twister and you can be sure Mick Mulvaney and Steve Miller have the plan completely mapped out. 😁

NebraskaFilly

“Remember a law passed by the Senate remain ALIVE AND IN PLAY until December 31 2019.” Are you saying it can become an actual law if the House refuses to pass it? BOTH Houses have to pass it, then signature by the President, before it can become law – unless you know something I don’t (which wouldn’t surprise me in the least)?

Gail Combs

No, I am saying once a bill has been passed by one house the other has until December 31st of the same year to also pass the law.
This is the game often played with bills HATED by the American people. For example on December 23, 1913, the Senate passed and President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act. The ‘Food Safety and Modernization Act.’ was finally approve on December 21, 2010 AFTER TEN YEARS of effort.

more reasons to buy local and American
FTA:
In the eight years since he founded Inscatech, Weinberg identified China as an epicenter of food fraud, where baby formula was laced with melamine and rat meat was sold as lamb. He said: “Statistically we’re uncovering fraud about 70 percent of the time, but in China it’s very close to 100 percent. It’s pervasive, it’s across food groups, and it’s anything you can possibly imagine.” (Independent)

Sylvia Avery

Have you noticed it is growing more difficult to find out where the food you are purchasing comes from? Stuff used to be labeled. It was small print and hard to find. Now it is non existent often times.
Not good. Not good at all.

NebraskaFilly

Congress changed that requirement within the last few years – they are no longer required to put it on the label. However, there is a way to tell using the bar code. I pulled this off of FB a couple of years ago:
This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it’s a concern to you.
GREAT WAY TO “BUY USA & CANADA ” AND NOT FROMCHINA!!
The whole world is concerned about China-made “black hearted goods”.
Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ?
If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the
public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves.
Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products “MADE IN CHINA”, so they don’t show from which country it is made.
However, you may now refer to the barcode – remember if the first 3 digits are:
690-692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 – 09 … USA & CANADA
30 – 37 FRANCE
40 – 44 GERMANY
471 … Taiwan
49 … JAPAN
50 … UK
BUY USA & CANADIAN MADE by watching for “0” at the beginning of the number.
We need every boost we can get! Pass this on to everybody on your E-Mail Contact List!!
If the government won’t help us, we MUST help ourselves.

They and us ALL want place of origin labels!

Deplorable Patriot

“Have you noticed it is growing more difficult to find out where the food you are purchasing comes from?”
Funny you should mention that. One of our local family owned grocery chains puts the country of origin on EVERYTHING fresh. Meat, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any from any other nation. Fish in the case is listed with the country and whether or not it is wild or farm raised and if it has been previously frozen. The house label eggs come from Syracuse, MO, which is becoming known around here for pastured eggs.
I noticed this at this chain largely because I don’t remember seeing it elsewhere.

Sylvia Avery

That’s pretty interesting. I bet it is in response to customer demand.
There is a chain grocery store in my town that I shop at a little bit. It is convenient, but their produce usually sucks and I’ve been kind of leery of their meat and poultry.
I was in a hurry the other day and ran in their hoping to find some kind of acceptable protein for dinner and I looked at the pork chops but there was nothing on the label indicating where they were from so I put them back.
And then I looked up and saw they had posted a hand printed sign saying all the meat and poultry is from the USA unless otherwise indicated. So, back into the cart went the pork chops.
Maybe we are having an impact.

‘Pimp’ video stings Planned Parenthood

A Planned Parenthood manager in New Jersey has been caught on video helping a person posing as a pimp trying to hide his underage sex ring, according to a video posted Tuesday by the pro-life group Live Action.
The video was shot at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Perth Amboy, N.J., on Jan. 13 by two undercover operatives — a man pretending to be a pimp and a woman posing as his prostitute.
In their video the “pimp” had a conversation with Amy Woodruff, the clinic manager, in which he said he was involved in “sex work.”
When the “pimp” tells Ms. Woodruff the girls are around 14 and 15 years old and speak no English, the clinic manager is shown saying “so long as they just lie … we just kind of play it stupid.”….

Oh, wow! I did not realize that the guy who really got the Twitter war going over the Islamist bitch’s comment “some people did something” was an Australian Imam!!! Oh, my!
EXCERPT: “Actually, Omar’s words didn’t get much attention until they were highlighted by Mohamad Tawhidi, an Australian Muslim cleric who holds decidedly anti-jihad views. As he tweeted on April 8,
‘Ilhan Omar mentions 9/11 and does not consider it a terrorist attack on the USA by terrorists, instead she refers to it as “Some people did something,” then she goes on to justify the establishment of a terrorist organization (CAIR) on US soil.’
Tawhidi’s tweet got things rocking. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the eye-patch-wearing war-hero-turned-Texas-Republican-Congressman, tweeted on April 9,
‘First Member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as “some people who did something.” Unbelievable.'”
EXCERPT (re: AOC Tweet): “One might point out that neither Crenshaw nor Trump attacked Omar; they simply pointed to words that she herself had said—with the videotape to prove it. And yet that point was obscured, at least for the moment, amidst the larger outrage over AOC’s invocation of the Holocaust, which took the tweet-war to a whole new level. Within half an hour, conservative pundit David Harsanyi responded:
This is just a shameful attempt to chill speech. It belittles both the real victims of 9/11 and the Holocaust.
For his part, Tawhidi, the man who started it all, sent out a tweet that dripped with sarcasm and irony about both AOC and Omar:
‘You are so bright you make the sun jealous. Only you could figure out a way to use the Holocaust to defend an anti-Semite who doesn’t even believe in the Holocaust.’

This is beyond disgusting. Its TOTALLY UNSANITARY!!!!!
Im not going to a hotel and “sharing” soap with previous guests. Every time you touch the dispenser, which is NOT going to be sanitized, your potentially touching hair, blood, semen, feces, and other things that have gone from hand to soap and back again.
But noooooo, gotta do this for the environment……
Those little shampoo bottles offered in hotel bathrooms, used once or twice and then usually tossed in the trash, could soon be a thing of the past in California.
State lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban hotels from providing guests with small plastic bottles for soap, shampoo and conditioner. The proposed law, which would go into effect in 2023, would instead encourage hotels to provide the products in bulk dispensers to reduce plastic waste.
Assembly Member Ash Kalra of San Jose co-authored the bill, known as AB 1162, which would apply to all lodging establishments. Kalra said that small plastic bottles under 12 ounces represent a sizable amount of waste and that his bill would reduce the problem.
“By not offering small bottles of personal care products, hotels, motels, and other lodging establishments can promote a more sustainable business and potentially reduce operating costs,” he said as part of an analysis on the bill. “AB 1162 will take meaningful action to curb single-use plastic consumption in the lodging industry and increase consumer awareness.”
The bill was introduced in February and is working its way through committees. Santa Cruz County passed a similar law that banned small toiletry bottles in hotels last year, CNN affiliate KSBW reported.
The legislation comes amid a growing push to phase out single-use plastics like straws and bags. Critics say these items take decades or more to decompose and end up polluting landfills and bodies of water.
California has been at the forefront of bans on single-use plastics and became the first state to ban plastic bags in 2014. New York state also moved to do the same last month.
Even before this legislation, hotels have begun to make the shift toward bulk dispensers, which they say are less wasteful and cheaper.
Marriott International announced last April that it would replace the individual soap, shampoo and conditioner bottles with bulk dispensers in its showers. The program is expected to save an average of 250 pounds of plastic per year for a 140-room hotel — about 23,000 plastic bottles, Marriott told Lodging Magazine.
“This is a win-win from a sustainability perspective, operational perspective, and financial perspective,” Denise Naguib, vice president of sustainability for Marriott, told the magazine.

T3, for three weeks I’ve wanted to tell you how much your posts have meant!! Amy Carmichael is my favorite of all authors! (You mentioned her last week.)
And you posted about the two women martyrs the week before. That was the same week that Daughn had written that bittersweet post about helping the boy with autism in the midst of what was supposed to be a Christian setting! Amy, the martyrs, Daughn (lifting up the oppressed), Calvary – isn’t that the normal Christian life?
Thank you for pulling us all up to reality.
