The world is watching as Iran seized a British oil tanker today. This, following on the heals of Iran shooting down a US drone and the US following suit by downing an Iranian drone.
Well, here is a piece of news that helps explain what is really happening….
Two Iranian ships are stranded in Brazil because Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras refuses to sell them the fuel needed to return to Iran due to sanctions imposed against Iran by the United States.
Reuters explained on Friday that the cargo ships Bavand and Termeharrived in Brazil a few months ago to deliver a shipment of petrochemical fertilizer and pick up loads of corn.
The Bavand was loaded up with 50,000 tons of corn and the Termeh is supposed to take on another 66,000 tons.
Carrying food back to Iran is legal under U.S. sanctions and Iran buys a great deal of corn from Brazil, but unfortunately for the Iranian captains, the Petrobras subsidiary that sells maritime fuel in Brazilian ports cited the U.S. sanctions and refused to refuel the ships. The Iranian government might need to send a tanker loaded with fuel all the way to Brazil to get the cargo vessels and their loads of corn.
Reuters explained that, unlike most ships employed in Iran’s agricultural trade with Brazil, the Bavand and Termeh are both flying Iranian flags. Iranian-flagged vessels usually arrive in Brazil with enough fuel to make it home, but that evidently was not the case with these two ships.
Petrobras stated that both Iranian ships appear by name on a list of sanctioned vessels, so refueling them could “have consequences for the oil company,” as Radio Farda put it. Petrobras is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and has operations in the United States, making it vulnerable to secondary sanctions.
Inflation runs rampant in Tehran as Iran’s government struggles to stem rising food prices
Tehran faces rising food prices and food shortages.

A local cook estimates prices have increased by 50% to 100% in the last year.

In 2018, the rial lost nearly 60% of its value. With less buying power (the exchange rate for the dollar on the free market is 145,000 rials), Iranians are finding they can’t stretch their paychecks anymore.
The rial is collapsing, inflation is spiraling out of control, sanctions prevent Iran’s from selling oil (and now even buying fuel for it’s cargo ships loaded with food), and the cost of food inside Iran is getting so bad that…
Factories that make baking essentials have run out of raw ingredients and some have either stopped manufacturing altogether or sell products at an inflated price off the books. The government has tried to step in and force manufacturers to sell, but there is little upside for those factories to pay workers and sell goods below their cost. It’s cheaper to shutter their doors.

Folks, this was the first time a President gave a speech on Independence Day in nearly seven decades. And POTUS spoke for nearly an hour to an VERY enthusiastic crowd (who ignored the weather to be there!).
Here’s why this matters. Here’s why this is important…

And after the Clintons, well THEN Bush “STOLE” the election from Al Gore, and he went to war. And this proved very key, because…
Bush 43 and the Iraq war ALLOWED THE LEFTIST HIPPIES TO RELIVE AND RE-CELEBRATE THEIR ANTI-WAR YOUTH. And it allowed the youth of the left to ideologically BRAND (and count) themselves as members of that tribe. Remember the comparisons? The daily news cast “body counts”?? The street protests? 2004-2007 was like the 60’s all over again.
Once again, liberals were “on the right side of history”. Then came Obummer and all of his corruption, and liberals felt they were back on track.

He’ll likely follow his formulistic approach that includes one or more of the following: buzzwords (“pathetic” “loser”), a nickname, misspelling a key word, InExplicable random capitalization, shocking language, and enough of the scandal to intrigue, but not enough to explain, forcing the media to do the job it has refused to do to date.
3. Feeding the In-Fighting
Trump’s tweets will also likely pit two or three of the candidates (and their supporters) against one another. We saw this approach when Sanders took on the Democratic National Committee-anointed Hillary Clinton. Expect Trump to remind the socialist-leaning base of the Democratic Party that Sanders was robbed, while suggesting Biden waits in the wings to steal the nomination from the now-rightful heir. A simple “DNC robbed Bernie in ‘16 and now Biden’s ready to steal the nomination again,” tweet, better phrased by the master, will serve the purpose simply enough.
Two nights of live tweeting by the president—more than a year out of the general election—will change this dynamic, first by highlighting, and thus fueling, party schisms, making it more difficult for inter-party riffs to heal. Second, Trump’s tweets will expose the extreme leftist positions championed by the Democratic presidential field to the normally uninterested apolitical American, making the transition to moderation a near impossibility.
4. Throwing Shade at Recalcitrant Republicans
Democrats won’t be the only ones likely targeted in any tweet storm: Look for Trump to also hit recalcitrant Republicans. John Kasich serves this dual purpose well. Think: “Alfred E. Newman has the appeal of Kasich. NOne.” Or “Kasich’s dad was a postman. Biden rides Am Trak. WHO CARES?”
In the process, the president can castigate MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and her cohorts, playing the liberal media bias theme to his benefit. Stressing Maddow’s bias allows Trump to suggest to the party faithful that the MSNBC reporter plays favorites, and then by highlighting any partiality in her questioning of the candidates, Trump can sow further discord among the candidates and their supporters.
5. Celebrating His Accomplishments
The two nights of presidential Twitter won’t likely focus solely on snark and shade. Substance and success, or “winning bigly,” will likely share equal billing for the president. Whether it be the economy, jobs, judicial appointments, or deregulation, the president has plenty of accomplishments to tout, but the media continues to downplay or ignore them.
Watch for Trump to jump the legacy media and take his message to the people under the guise of debate commentary. With every new, ridiculous proposal floated by the vying candidates, Trump can counter with the specifics on his successes.
Look also for the Democratic candidates to continue the Russia collusion turned obstruction hoax. While that may play to the left’s base, if Trump tweets out rejoinders, the moderate middle will see the candidates for what they are: conspiracy-obsessed caricatures worthy of disdain.
Just by suggesting he’ll have his smartphone at the ready, Trump has put himself in the head of every Democratic contender.
The candidates must now focus, not just on what one of their primary opponents might say, and to which they will have an opportunity to respond in real time, but also on what the president is tweeting out, unanswered, to millions.
Baseball. Hot dogs. Country music. Apple pie. The Stars and Stripes. The 4th of July. Thanksgiving.
Some things are so downright American that a mere word or two instantly bring to mind the good ol’ US of A. Here’s another phrase that is indelibly American…
The bell first cracked when rung after its arrival in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow. In its early years, the bell was used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens about public meetings and proclamations.
Professor Constance M. Greiff, in her 1976 book tracing the history of Independence National Historical Park, wrote of the Liberty Bell:
“[T]he Liberty Bell is the most venerated object in the park, a national icon. It is not as beautiful as some other things that were in Independence Hall in those momentous days two hundred years ago, and it is irreparably damaged. Perhaps that is part of its almost mystical appeal. Like our democracy it is fragile and imperfect, but it has weathered threats, and it has endured.”
Indeed they have endured, both the Liberty Bell and our great Republic.
And yet, for eight long, seemingly endless 8 years, we greatly questioned if they would or even could. 2008 – 2016 was a very dark time in America, when a Muslim man of questionable citizenship, who demonstratively hated our beloved Republic, was actually “serving” as President of the United States. Those were bleak years, indeed.
In fact, those years once again made some folks seem preternaturally prophetic. One of them was the Hag, the Okie from Muskogee, the poet of the common man. Leader of the Outlaw Country movement and one of the first to nail the Bakersfield sound of the late 1950s, Merle Haggard was an American icon both in music and in attitude.

In actuality, Merle Haggard’s warning has been resonating with his fans ever since it won the Country Music Award’s Song of the Year – Artist as well as Song of the Year – Composer. President Reagan had only been in office for a little over a year and no one could’ve predicted then what actually happened during his administration.
Since 1981 the Hag’s famous song has been sounding the alarm for any and all who would listen, and millions of us have. It WAS a depressing song, written in the malaise and hangover from the Carter administration and no one could foresee a time when things would begin to turn around. But it’s always the darkest before the dawn, as the song undeniably concludes.
Today, with a man who is arguably the best POTUS since Lincoln, the Hag’s famous hit once again becomes a rallying cry, it’s last few verses promising a hope we are witnessing come to life before our very eyes. We are, once again, standing up for the flag and ringing the Liberty Bell!
So without further ado, we present one of the greatest country music legends ever recorded….singing one of the greatest country music songs ever written…a reminder of where we’ve been…with a promise for tomorrow…behind a leader who unquestionably is…
