Have
The word, Have, is a good word. It has been under attack lately by the word “Of”, which has been encroaching on Have’s territory and masquerading as Have and acting like it has a right to be there.
For example…the word “Of” has been attaching itself to words like ‘should’ and ‘would’…and ‘must’.
This has caused people to type “should of” and “would of”…instead of “should have” or “would have”.
People easily fall for this deception, because when we use the contracted form of Have…it sounds like “Of”:
Would’ve…sounds like “would of”.
Should’ve…sounds like “should of”.
So the word ‘Of’ takes advantage of this quirk in our language and feels entitled to jump into Have’s place.
But do not be fooled!
Be aware of the word Of’s treachery and thwart it’s efforts to take over Have’s territory.

I’m not in touch with pop culture enough to know when Gervais got red pilled or whatever happened to him. Several years ago I watched a few minutes of his Golden Globes thing and it was so awful I felt like I needed a shower after watching it. I’ve avoided him like the plague since then. TOTAL turnaround this time. Amazing!!!!
I think this is a big deal. Hollywood is long overdue for getting read the riot act.

They’re sorta like China – either they win or they don’t ; there’s no effort toward win-win … In Hollywood either the star gets the role or they don’t; the director succeeds at box office or he doesn’t. Either they have the biggest house, airplane, entourage or they don’t.
That is how they measure themselves. So ANY action that diminishes their odds of Winning, cannot be tolerated. There is NOTHING about H’wood that nurtures or sustains a middle class. There is only a constant flux of Winners and the rest of the population is servants to the winners.

And the Hollywood industry people – those MIND CONTROLLER FREAKS – they KNOW IT. They know Gervais was end-arounding THEM.
It amused me. Of course they wouldn’t get what they just saw…………of course they would hate it. But WE get it.

Not a single person in that room walked out as Gervais shredded their veneer of dignity. They sat there and took it. Tried to pretend it was ok for Gervais to viscerate them. Is that because Gervais was telling the truth or because they think so little of themselves they are willing to be humiliated? Very interesting behavior.
Sure, Gervais is known for that kind of ‘digging’ comedy, but this was beyond comedy. We knew it. They knew it. I wonder how they live with themselves – hollow souls, that’s how. Hollywood is one big illusion.

If you want to smoke go buy your own f ing cigarettes.” She was in total shock.

Nah. I don’t judge how people write. (I make plenty of mistakes, myself.) No need for grammar police, and I find colloquialisms and people’s backgrounds interesting. There are many different measures of intelligence, and some of the worst spellers, or people for whom English is a second language, make huge thought contributions and present unique perspectives.
The only time I *enjoy* correcting someone is when they wrongly state that someone else is incorrect and (literally) tell them they’re dumb. I probably shouldn’t, but I get a perverse satisfaction out of proving them wrong.

No really, there aren’t as many mistakes as people think. Mostly reflexive pronouns, actually.
I look at most “mistakes” as finger slips, typos and such…I’m not the Grammar Police–I don’t even had a badge.

I just looked it up, Syl…and it *is* actually a word.
An old obsolete word, but still a word:
“Agreeance comes from the Old French agréance and would therefore be expected to be used in areas with (former) French influence. It is also used in New Zealand.”
It began popping up, usually among twenty somethings, about 15-20 years ago. Didn’t know it was an obsolete word.
My obsolete word story:
My grandmother was illiterate. Very smart, though, so I think she had dyslexia or something that caused her to drop out of school in third grade.
I grew up in the Deep South, so some of the things she said were, I thought from my “superior” education, just made up words. I never considered the old English origin possibilities present from the earliest days of our country.
When I was really naughty, she would threaten to “put a quietus on me.”
I thought she made it up, from the word quiet. Until one day I ran across the word quietus. In a Shakespearean play, no less. It means “death.”
So my sweet Nanny was threatening to kill me for being so bad!
I am familiar with the expression “put a quietus on……….” because I’ve read it in old Westerns, I believe. I didn’t realize it’s origins. That’s fascinating to me.
I’ve read where at least parts of the south were settled by enclaves of “hill people” from Great Britain, Scotland, and Ireland and that some of those who settled in more remote areas of the south continued with their speech patterns and expressions and that some of that old language survives. That may be an example of that.

My ancestry on that side is Scottish. And there are lots of examples of the speech of 300 or more years ago coming through until today in the South. There is also music that came over from Scotland and though it is changed in Scotland itself today, it remains as it was up in the hollers and remote mountain communities of the Deep South. Really cool.

That building in the back with the tower is The Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol still in continuous legislative use. It is also the only state house to have served as the nation’s capitol.

we have a large one for our great room and a smaller one for the bedroom, both cool mist.
Steam is a bit iffy, simply because of bacteria in warm water. Hard to keep clean.
I strongly prefer cool mist for that reason. Get one with a replaceable filter that lets you know when to replace it, and follow that schedule.
Funny, all the websites I consulted said the opposite about steam since the water is boiled.
I’ll have to think about this. we have a non-toxic mold in the water here that blooms in cold water all the time. If I go that route, I’ll have to use distilled.

Well, last Friday, we had to take old Tom to the vet. Just an hour ago, I fell asleep in my chair and Tom came walking around the corner looking clean, young and healthy. I woke myself up saying “Hi Tom” out loud.

I, too, have had this exact experience. It is a sad reality of this life that a beloved pet comes with heart-ache, as we are normally destined to outlive them. However…
I am convinced beyond all doubt that our Father in heaven intends to restore our beloved pets to us, and this dream foretells this.
because:
1. The bond of love never dies.
2. They were gifts to us, given by our Father in Heaven.
3. It would make us happy beyond words, as much as the restoration of a beloved family member (which they are)
4. The profound sense of gratitude and thanksgiving
5. Because it would glorify our Father
This does not mean we will “keep” our pets as we did here in this life (ie. locked fence/door to keep them from running off, etc.) only that our beloved pets will be restored to us in the next life…for our mutual enjoyment and wonder…for the rest of eternity. When we call they will come, and when they want to run off to explore and play they will go freely, and we will never be anxious over them, because nothing can or will ever harm them again.
Sorry to hear this. Putting down our yellow lab T was a rough decision, but necessary. They’re always with us, that’s for sure.

Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

First time I saw it was years ago after I had to say goodbye to my beloved yellow lab, the vet’s office included a beautiful commemorative photo with that poem printed on it. It was included in the “final” paperwork after releasing my baby from a very invasive cancer….vet said it was the worst she had ever seen. We kept him going a few weeks until *I* was ready to let him go. Vet offered to come to my home with equipment, but we took that last ride together. He was a good one and I still miss him all these years, and several beloved pets, later. That photo of him, with the poem, hangs on my Christmas tree every year. ❤

We just have to do what my husband always says. Love ‘em awful, give them the best life you can, and appreciate every day you have with them. It only hurts so much because we loved so much.

When you watch couples dancing from about the ’20s to the ’60s, you see people enjoying themselves. Then, sometime after the ’60s, dancing became “Watch me!”, look at the cool moves I’ve got. What a pity!
I’ve got a friend who’s approaching 80yrs old ( he’s in good shape for his age) that belongs to a club that frequent some night clubs that cater to the music of the 50’s & 60’s, and them old gals and guys are still having a good time dancing the night away.
I love seeing the “seniors” dancing at various social events…when there’s decent dancing music. (YMCA just doesn’t do it!) They are smooth and know how to glide across the dance floor in perfect step. Several years ago I traveled to Arizona for the 70th anniversary party of a favorite aunt and uncle. They “courted” on the dance floor, as did most in those days. Uncle was pretty frail by then with serious lung problems but they got on the dance floor (perhaps for the very last time) and showed us they had still had all the smooth moves.

Lady is of the “my ex is an abuser” variety – TRUE OR NOT – doesn’t matter. She lost custody for some reason. Very likely she’s flakey.
She got involved with Pizzagate and eventually QAnon folks – REASONABLE.
She talked up her ex as horrible, and her online friends believed her – TRUE OR NOT.
She eventually tried to arrange a kidnapping with her online friends, one or more of whom BALKED and notified feds (thank you, patriotic QAnon followers).
They swooped her up when they had her dead to rights.
FBI brass spins reality as bad for Trump and “QAnon conspiracy theory” as possible.
MORAL TO THE STORY – be careful out there. They want to tarnish us. What if the woman being charged was manipulated into her acts by an FBI informant? Who were the real targets? I’m thinking is was US.

2. They were gifts to us, given by our Father in Heaven.
3. It would make us happy beyond words, as much as the restoration of a beloved family member (which they are)
4. The profound sense of gratitude and thanksgiving
5. Because it would glorify our Father
This does not mean we will “keep” our pets as we did here in this life (ie. locked fence/door to keep them from running off, etc.) only that our beloved pets will be restored to us in the next life…for our mutual enjoyment and wonder…for the rest of eternity. When we call they will come, and when they want to run off to explore and play they will go freely, and we will never be anxious over them, because nothing can or will ever harm them again.

Often such huts are build and maintained by hiking or climbing or caving clubs. I have stayed in many throughout the USA and Europe.
It works by reciprocity. One Prof from the UK came over to Canada for a year. He was passed from caving club to caving club. I met him in Mexico.After that he hooked up with a group headed to South America to go caving down there. When I went to the UK for a caving vacation a few years later, I met him again coming out of a cave.
