Dear KAG: 20210608 Open Thread

Cover image: ceiling in the reading room at the Missouri Historical Society, a repurposed building that was once United Hebrew Synagogue. (Of course, St. Louis, Missouri)

To be honest, I wasn’t going to go looking for a hometown piece of art for today’s opener, but after wrangling with my mother over what she considers legit news sources, and thinking about how the various strata of people in the US are really prisoners in echo chambers when it comes to information, inspiration struck.

See, the reading room at the Missouri Historical Society IS an echo chamber along the same lines as the Statuary Hall (Old House of Representatives Chamber) is in the U.S. Capitol. Yours truly did some research one afternoon, and other than being catered to by the staff in a traditional library, had a miserable time of it. Snippets of conversations from across the room fairly floated on the air conditioning currents.

So, I had some notion of doing a whole bit on that.

And then I realized that I keep seeing all these memes about age.

Really. I completely agree.

And then this came up:

Just a couple of guys making some random comments about age, but then I recalled something my dad told me about defense contractors and doing fighter contract proposals for the government. It’s a years long process. And sometime in the 1990s, the guys who had been around for 3-4 of the proposals, and knew what was in store had to coach the younger generations who didn’t want to hear what they had to say.

We’ve lamented here of late the lack of loyalty building anymore in American corporate culture, not to mention the demise of mentoring. Apprenticeship is a little different, but still, the older generations are used more as a library sort of resource than a student learning from a master.

It’s one of the aspects of traditionalism that suffered mightily when the extended family was sacrificed in the name of [DS] “progress.”

(BTW, I checked with the grammar nazi (Mom is life time certified to teach English) who was taught by nuns, and that is the correct punctuation. Periods and commas go INSIDE the quotation marks unless the quotes are around a proper name. I was beginning to doubt my own education from nuns.)

With that in mind….

I had planned to bring this today, and eilert posted it yesterday. Still worth watching.

Now, what else is out there….

TEXT: Natural COVID immunity is forever. Memory B and T cells quietly wait in lymph nodes and bone marrow ready to make antibodies if the virus returns. Our bodies are amazing. Those who have had COVID can identify as vaccinated.

I bet somebody out there knows why that steel plant in Iran went ka-BOOM.

Where’s Marylin when you need her?

Uh, yeah.

Crisis actors by another name.

As if we didn’t know there was something hinky about the whole blame fat for people being overweight thing.

And one I’m not saving until tomorrow.

Something to remember, always.

Per the boss’s instruction:

I’d throw in a few Rockefellers and Rothschilds also.

Of course, this does not mean committing felonies, but standing up to the forces that want to tear this nation – and humanity apart. The very people XVII told us will be destroyed by the time this movie comes to an end are currently roaming the halls of power…supposedly. It’s a sickening sight.

And now for some mood music:

Your weekly reminder to take the pledge:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

And now for the nitty gritty of the Q Tree 5 minute, stand up, Tuesday morning meeting version of the Daily Thread.

Ahem.

Guidelines for posting and discussion on this site were outlined by our host, WolfM00n. Please, review them from time to time.

The discourse on this site is to be CIVIL – no name calling, baiting, or threatening others here is allowed. Those who are so inclined may visit Wolf’s other sanctuary, the U-Tree, to slog it out with anyone who happens to still be hanging out there. There is also a “rescue” thread there for members of the Tree to rendezvous if the main site goes kablooey.

This site is a celebration of the natural rights endowed to humans by our Creator as well as those enshrined in the Bill of Rights adopted in the founding documents of the United States of America. Within the limits of law, how we exercise these rights is part of the freedom of our discussion.

Fellow tree dweller Wheatie gave us some good reminders on the basics of civility in political discourse:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

And Auntie DePat’s requests as we are all, ahem, adults, although some of us are beginning to wonder what the threshold for true adulthood is:

If you see something has not been posted, do us all a favor, and post it. Please, do not complain that it has not been done yet.

The scroll wheel on your mouse can be your friend. As mature adults, please use it here in the same manner you would in avoiding online porn.

Thank you so much for any and all attention to such details. It is GREATLY appreciated by more than one party here.

MATTHEW 5:13-16

13“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. 14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, cast down to Hell Satan and all his evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Amen brother.

As always, prayers for the fight against that which seeks to enslave us are welcome. Via con Dios.
