Quality is hard to get going into a shop but I try.

So I went to the bank told them I DID NOT WANT THE ACCOUNT BUT WAS FORCED. I wanted it immediately transferred to MY BANK. I was told it could be done but I would be charged for the transfer and I would be charged a fee every month — BASTARDS!
I checked with a lawyer and he said I would have to quit or deal with it.

When I was starting in accounting, 40 years ago, these were “The Big Eight” — the international audit firms that handled the vast majority of international business clients. Since then, they’ve consolidated down to four (Arthur Andersen was unlawfully eliminated after Enron).
Without a Big Four signature on financials, they won’t be worth the paper they’re printed on. This move may actually be more damaging to the Chinese economy than sanctions ever were.

Everybody in finance knows the Chinese financials are made up BS and have been forever. But if they can make a buck off of them they looked the other way.
Cunningham & the Shapeo/Schettler Drug Stores used Arthur Anderson. When it was FYE they came in teams to the accounting area to audit everything. I worked in the payroll department and receivables was next to it, on the other side of a column was payables, key-punch/data entry and the computer room was behind. The majority of the departments were young women doing the clerical work necessary for each department. There were a lot of them it was 1966-1969 I worked there. Comptographs were used to add everything up until the 10 key adding machines came in. It was much easer to add all the numbers on the spread sheets with the adding machines.
The young Arthur Anderson accounts were quietly happy to be around so many young women wearing mini-dresses and platform shoes .. 😌😎 .. the work always got done.

If what one wears makes one more polite and mannerly, it seems to be superficially induced to me. I guess I must be a Slow Guy as well.
The first thing I did when I became the CEO of our small business lending division was to go business casual. That was 20 years ago. I wanted our people to be comfortable and reflect the people with whom we did business. If more formal attire was merited based on the situation, I expected them to respond accordingly.
By doing so it in no way reduced civility. It removed barriers to civility. Situational adaptation.

You still had a dress code. Obviously as a chemist I would wear decent clothes with a lab coat and in some instances, steel toed shoes, gloves and a hard hat.
I however hired a carpenter’s helper who interviewed in a dress shirt, tie and Dickie slacks. I preferred him to the new graduates with chemistry degrees who wore dirty torn sweats. Why? BECAUSE HE SHOWED RESPECT FOR ME AS HIS FUTURE MANAGER!

Dress for the interview. It’s a sales effort of sorts, WITH competition.

I’m a firm believer in dress for how you want to be treated. That being the case, I am a dress girl. Right now, most of the collection is dressy casual, and casual, but I do have at least one that I call my “funeral dress,” which is worn in a professional capacity when I sing funerals. I have a couple other skirt/top combinations for other occasions in the music realm. Coming up, though, I may have to invest in some more dressy things depending on how a background situation shakes out.
I like pants. Even as a chemist I wanted to wear pants. Do you know what acetone (in squirt bottle on the lab bench) Does to nylon stockings??? Think nail polish remover. It dissolves them into a sticky mess.
I used one squirt bottle that had a split that aimed part of the stream at the face of the person squirting it. Thank goodness for safety glasses!
HOWEVER when I interviewed or I did presentations I wore a nice ladies business suit. It is a matter of showing respect.

Whenever leftists first get in charge of an institution, one of the first things they cut are the maintenance budgets (of course I know I’m going to light Gail up on this) . . . I remember being on jury duty and the baliff kept drawing attention to how the building wasn’t being cleaned properly, they reduced the frequency that the janitors would service things, so trashcans weren’t being emptied but once a week, building maintenance suffered, lawns were unkempt, leaves and litter were blowing around, and vising the jury rooms, the break room, the bathroom, the building exuded the feeling that the landlord was absent . . .
Dress code is about taking a pride in one’s own appearance, presenting well, and most importantly, respecting the dignity of those you serve. Slacking on the dress code is self-centered and cutting corners, and showing disrespect for the people you work for, your customers, and your fellow workers.
Now the dress code is so eviscerated that wearing slacks and dress pants, even without a tie, you’re breaking office norms.
I work with engineers. They don’t care if you wear a tie – as long as you treat them with respect and have the engineering mindset. It’s more of a merit based system, but there is still a clear professionalism about what they do. But it’s hard to respect a lawyer, a business manager, or a salesman who doesn’t think that how they dress matters.

I’m convinced there is something going on in the hierarchy to destroy the Church from within.
Due to the “priest shortage,” which would not be an issue if the bishops actually DID THEIR JOBS, diocese by diocese, there is an effort to consolidate resources, a snow job euphemism for combining and closing parishes. We all know that.
Well, somebody out there got the bright idea to hire an outside consulting and PR firm from Pennsylvania to do a lot of the heavy lifting and dirty work. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati pretty much capitulated without much resistance. Here in STL since this whole thing started, the outside consultants were surprised to be on the receiving end of push-back, and a lot of it. The latest word is no parishes will be closed, but a number will become private chapels or personal parishes, more euphemisms for “the Archdiocese will not provide a pastor or pastoral care.” However, the Churches will remain Catholic.
As for the sale of Church property, I have it from a clergy member who is a MAJOR player in this Archdiocese that all transactions over a certain threshold (I think he said $500K) have to be approved by Rome. So, that sale is sanctioned. My HS Alma Mater is somewhat in the same boat, as the school will be private starting next school year, but the Archdiocese won’t sell the property. Yet. It is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate the Church owns.

Check USA trade balance. It is very skewed.
This disparity is based upon two pillars.
1) liquidity, the hope that value invested in USD can be pulled out. Maybe USA won’t pay back, but someone else (some other nation) would (by selling their goods or services for USD).
2) fear. Look at Gaddafi, the guy wanted to trade beyond USD and thought his UN Human Rights award would protect him. He does no more.
Standing on those pillars USA was “exporting inflation” enjoying “exorbitant privilege”.
Now imagine those pillars got chopped. What would come next?
USD would loose any extra value. USD would only cost as much as there are “made in USA” goods other nations are willing (and not coerced to) to buy.
And so again look at USA trade balance.
Trump wanted to zero it “from inside”, by controlling USA production and consumption. Many thought that is was not possible, that USA 2016 was past no return point EVEN would all the nation stick around him. Anyway, he was sabotaged. And his attempts to squeeze China economically only backfired and made the balance yet worse.
So, the trade balance would be zeroed from outside.
It is a VERY rough estimation, a zeroth approach, but just take the data, what USA sold (exported) and what USA purchased (imported) in 2022.
Then imagine USA can only import as much as it exports and not a penny over that.
Take the list of imports and cut out everything above that limit. You won’t have it. At all. For any price in USD, for 10x price, 100x price, 1000x price – no difference. Those goods just won’t exist, they won’t be imported in USA. Try to imagine it.

At some point some “critical mass” of dollar-deniers would get reached and nations would fear to trade in USD like they feared to trade in rouble in 1990s.
They would see USD for a hot potato to get rid of. A trap. Something that is decimated by inflation yet you can not buy anything of value and is stuck.
This above sounds absurd heresy today, but hey, 10 years ago the idea of USA fleeing away from Taliban while Iran throes missiles at her Iraq garrisons sounded equally absurd. Yet it happenned.
So that is a problem.
USA does not have self-sufficient economy.
USA globalized economy is pathetically inefficient, as measured by costs of imports and exports. In layman terms, USA wants to by form everyone but few want to buy from USA.
When everyone had fear of USArmy and trust in USD – it was colonial tax, blackmail.
But sans those it is inefficiency.
And it would surface in unpredictable moment and all at once.
Look at material (Hollywood and Microsoft would be canceled) import and export streams and imagine large part of US required import disappeared overnight.

But yes, startpage.com is to be preferred–greatly–over google.com or bing.com, though a good case can be made for using duckduckgo.com as a search engine. (Either one, startpage.com or duckduckgo.com, is fairly good.)
