Moral & Religious
Government is not the answer to all of our problems. There is no government capable of restraining immoral, ungodly, and selfish people.
John Adams, the second President of the United States, said, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
Did you catch that? “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.” That is the reason the United States and many other countries in the world are in such terrible shape. Our world is becoming increasingly godless. While the vast majority of people in the world believe in the existence of God, an increasing majority live their lives as if God does not exist.
While the same principles apply to other nations, for the rest of this article, we will be discussing the United States specifically.
Government is not the answer. There is no perfect government because every government is filled with imperfect people. And while The United States has (or had) the best government in the history of the world, it is failing due to precisely what John Adams declared. Our government is wholly inadequate to govern immoral, ungodly, and selfish people.
None of the political parties seem to understand this. None of them embrace the Christian worldview on just how wretchedly sinful humanity is without Christ (Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 1:18-32; 3:10-23). Is there a more apt description of modern society than Genesis 6:5? “The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”
The Democratic solution is to add new regulations. The Republican solution is to tweak the existing regulations. The Libertarian solution is to get rid of virtually all regulations. None of those methodologies are truly solutions to anything. The problem is sin. It does not matter how many laws we create. Evil and greedy people will find ways around the laws or find lawyers [and corrupt juries, corrupt judges, corrupt local and federal officials and corrupt law enforcement] to rescue them after they break the laws. Creating laws, tweaking laws, or removing laws will never solve the problem of sin. We are all infected with sin and inherently greedy (Matthew 6:19-24; Luke 12:15; Ephesians 5:5; 1 Timothy 6:9-10; Hebrews 13:5). Government cannot cure it. Only Jesus Christ can deliver us from it.
We don’t need a government to tell us that murder is wrong, that stealing is wrong, or that lying is wrong. These things are wrong because God has written His Law on our hearts and from His Word. Sure, governmental punishment can be a deterrent, but ultimately we strive to avoid sin because we love God and want to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him. That is the only biblically-valid deterrent to sin—not fines or prison sentences, but a desire to please God. That is what our society is lacking. And that explains why our country is floundering.
Not all of the early Americans or even all of the founding fathers were Christians. But at least they had a biblically-informed view of the world and a Christian sense of morality. The Constitution is arguably the best piece of governmental legislation in the history of the world. But it is inadequate in a country that is increasingly filled with people who desire only evil all the time.
True change is only possible through Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). The only reform that will truly impact our society is the reformation of people becoming new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) and having our minds transformed (Romans 12:1-2).
Governing a godless, selfish, and greedy people is like trying to restrain the wind or grasp oil in your hand (Proverbs 27:16). Or, as John Adams so aptly put it, it is like trying to restrain a whale with a net. Due to 200+ years of US history, the nets have become significantly more complex since John Adams’ day, but due to the ever-increasing wickedness (Romans 6:19) of our society, the whale has become exponentially larger and more dangerous. Without repentance from sin and faith in Christ, it is looking increasingly like the only solution is a harpoon.

Thank you for asking about Solas. He’s doing a little each day. He’ll go back to his regular vet for one more round of exams and blood tests to make sure the little guy is on the road to full recovery.
What I’m not so sure about is how to “transition” him from the “dog BRAT diet” that he’s been on for the past 3 weeks, back to his regular canned dog food. Solas just LOVES this “dog BRAT diet” (shredded plain, boiled chicken + plain, boiled white rice, with some Churu cat paste treat as a “binder”, and applesauce on the side.)
would it bad for him to stay on that diet, since he likes it and seems to help??
That’s what I’m going to ask his vet. I think I can add a little chopped-up, plain boiled peeled carrot to the “dog BRAT diet” Solas is eating now. I noted that the dog food he was eating prior to getting sick contained things like chicken, potatoes, carrots.

FWIW, I friend who raised Basenjis gave all her dogs chicken and rice once a week.

You might have something there…those “veterinarian-approved” and “scientifically researched” canine foods may be just fine for many dogs. But my little guy practically “inhales” his current “dog BRAT” diet food. I think the most important thing at the moment is to make sure his blood work is up to par, and that the “double whammy” of pancreatitis + ileus is completely gone.
I probably wouldn’t change anything either, not until he’s fully recovered. Glad to hear he’s doing better!

So, it appears that what happened was a “consultation” between the then-Archbishop of Canterbury (Rev. Justin Welby) and the King-designate (Charles) prior to the Coronation ceremony in May 2023. THAT is where the decision was made to “revise” the Coronation Oath Questions to be “more inclusive” of other belief systems.

IMO, of the listed items, Dems have already advocated for the following in one form or another. In some cases Dems have not gone quite as far as the DSA, but the idea is still there:
So IMO the big deal is that Dems are being outed as heading toward, and sometimes outright advocating for, socialism/communism, which we have recognized for years. Now they’re panicking and trying to push back on something that they have nurtured for a long time.
These remaining items are unconstitutional.
Even Dems know they couldn’t get away with them if they tried, so they haven’t voiced them aloud. But many Dems are anti-American, think our Constitution is a “living document” that they should be able to change, and would do anything to gain and retain power, so I don’t see much difference between these items and the general mindset of Dems that manifests every day.
IMO their sudden panic is fake. They aren’t worried about socialism/communism in this country; they are worried that people might see that their views already resemble it too much.
One worry that Dems probably have is that an avowed DSA member would have no hesitation in voicing such beliefs, which would put Dems in the uncomfortable position of either agreeing with them or of having to defend the Constitution, law enforcement, border security, etc. 🍿

we had a female oriole last year, trying to tug bits of string that was around a deck post, so i cut pieces of pink yarn and laid them on the railing. She came back and took each piece, so i put our more and more. She made her pink nest on the tree right off the deck and from where i sat, I could see it. She had babies in that nest, but the hawks got them. Then in the fall, after the leaves fell, I saw TWO pink nests in woods. They were still hanging tightly onto their branches thru the worst snow and wind storms.
This spring I decided to try yellow yarn and none of the females touched it, so i went back to pink and they took every piece. She tried to take pieces from her previous nest, but she wove it too well i think…lol
In the fall we will see where the other females put their nests.
That’s very cool, nature is beautiful. Simple gifts from God that we overlook at times.

In this video Mamdani’s friend Yusef Salaam—City Council Rep for Harlem—says this proves that “impossible” contains the words “I’m possible.”
Yusef’s political career began when he carried a 14 inch metal pipe into Central Park & hit multiple people over the head with it including a jogger who nearly died while his buddies then raped her.
He confessed this to police, multiple of his friends who were there confessed this about him to police (on videotape, with details only the perps could’ve known), & he admitted under oath on the stand at his own trial that he entered the park with his weapon & his friends & that they then began “wilding” on people.
When he was sentenced, he read a slam poem about racism to the judge. He appealed because he lied to police about being of age when he was arrested & showed them a fake ID “proving” this, so they asked him about his crime & he incriminated himself without his parents present; his appeal was rejected.
He served 6 years behind bars, then was paid over $7 million because politically connected people in NY politics thought arresting violent blacks was “racist” & another guy who was already behind bars for life separately confessed to raping the jogger, so supposedly this proved Yusef couldn’t have done anything wrong.
Yusef then got sweet sinecures at Cornell & on the board of the Innocence Project—helping thugs like him get away with brutal crimes—& got elected to the City Council several years ago & was invited with his fellow Central Park rapists to speak at the 2024 DNC about how racist the supposed r***** Donald Trump was for saying they were guilty & should be executed instead of getting let out so they can keep ruining our country.

The more I look at history, and the more I ponder “freedom of religion” in the United States, the more I come to understand that the Founders were addressing freedom of “Christian” religious sects, not the free-for-all we have today.
The Founders were at the tail-end of the persecution of Martin Luther, and the schism of the Church that it caused. The people who fled Europe for America were almost ALL Pilgrims (Christian), Quakers (Christian), Anglicans (Christian), Catholics (Christian), Presbyterians (Christian), and all the various Baptists (Christian). See a pattern there?
You know what there wasn’t? Large groups of Hindus, Muslims, Jews, satanists, pagans, or any other “religion.”
Putting myself into the times and mores of the Founders, what I see are men who understood America to be a Christian nation, with many “types” of Christians, none of which should be allowed to reign over all the others, a la Henry VIII and the Church of England. No one Christian sect was to be embraced by the government.
What they almost certainly did NOT mean is that islam was just as worthy of consideration and “freedom” as Christianity in America.
That’s my long thought out opinion. Change my mind.

There are positions in between. Ears are the best indication of what an horse is thinking. If I put a kid on a pony that I think might be too heavy I immediately check the ears to see what the pony thinks. I have taken a kid off more than once when the pony says NO!

Donkeys are not stubborn they are timid. They will check out a situation before they will run. Also once you win their trust they are very easy to handle.
We had a jenny (female) born on our farm. I was totally shocked when I put a halter on her for the first time and she followed me right into the trailer.
I never went thru the training that I did with young horses and ponies.
Sadie hates the barn–she loves being outdoors and bananas. Sadie will do anything for a banana…lol

What you say makes sense. And it is precisely where communists look for a contradiction to exploit.
Commies understood that the Founder idea of “freedom of religion” really only worked in a “culturally Christian” and “mostly Christian” context. So, freedom of religion can’t be total. Yet, at the same time, IMO, Christianity can’t be total, because that’s too great a risk of falling back into European problems.
IMO, the Founders realized that a necessary part of the mix was a small number of atheists, Jews, deists, natives, and “others” who act in some ways like a plasticizer in polymer mixes, keeping politics from crystallizing toward any particular large faction of Christians. As long as there is a small but sufficient percentage of “troublesome others”, it becomes impossible for any Christian group to coalesce into power.
The trouble is, if we add too many of those others, trouble follows. And the troublesome others always want more of their own in the mix. I think many of these groups, and people in them, understand the problem. They LIKE living in a society where their own kind isn’t in control, but another tolerant group IS in control. However, they can’t turn off the emotional call of “just a few more of us” coming through the door.
I saw a “test” for which religions can be in America. It included a simple thing; can you leave the religion without being persecuted, punished, or killed. If so, fine. If not, that religion can’t be here.
Sounds like a good policy to me.
And I believe that “freedom of religion” as it is used today only came about in the last sixty years or so. This “welcoming” just any old religion into public life is relatively new:

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 84
The psalmist expresses his affection to the ordinances of God. (1-7) His desire towards the God of the ordinances. (8-12)
1-7 The ordinances of God are the believer’s solace in this evil world; in them he enjoys the presence of the living God: this causes him to regret his absence from them. They are to his soul as the nest to the bird. Yet they are only an earnest of the happiness of heaven; but how can men desire to enter that holy habitation, who complain of Divine ordinances as wearisome? Those are truly happy, who go forth, and go on in the exercise of religion, in the strength of the grace of Jesus Christ, from whom all our sufficiency is. The pilgrims to the heavenly city may have to pass through many a valley of weeping, and many a thirsty desert; but wells of salvation shall be opened for them, and consolations sent for their support. Hard to say. I’m exhausted & tentative. We have no idea of what my little bro, the Executor, is going to do. We hope he’ll allow the house to sell to see if the proceeds are sufficient for us to purchase the Cottage & the Hilton. We are all pretty tired & emotionally drained by all of it. We’re trying to trust God & be at peace, whatever happens, but it’s kind of tentative. We have an intake call with an Estate Attorney on 7/6 because my dad’s Estate attorney suggested we get one in order to help us get the real estate transactions handled (since he can only represent the Estate, not the beneficiaries). We’re supposed to be able to have a family vacation at the Cottage in late July (it was planned before Dad died) but now we will likely have to pay (we don’t know how much) & some of us are tentative emotionally because of how both my bros handled my son Brandon’s request to be able to hold the previously scheduled Bachelor Party. It’s been hard…plus I miss my dad so sometimes just start crying (not how I usually am)…as far as upheaval surrounding the Cottage it feels like someone rifled through my underwear drawer…it’s just rather gross & violating 🙁

He’s a little guy–mama kicked him out in spring so she can mate this year. We have photos of a LARGE bear picking up a 20 lb corn block in his teeth and walking off with it. THAT bear you’d be afraid of. This guy is like a third of that size.

when we first moved here and i didn’t know that flowers on the deck would attract curious animals, I had pots of geraniums in the corner. The air was nice so I had the windows open (screens in). A mama bear (she was LARGE) brought her 2 cubs up on the deck and they were eating my geraniums!
I scolded her from the window –telling her to STOP eating my flowers! She hightailed it off the decks with the babies right behind her. LOL
they mostly are timid.
Hubby says they are very unpredictable, which can be a problem. I’d be scared with just a screen between us, I mean Yikes!
they can be with cubs that’s for sure. I’m always cautious.
Definitely don’t get between a momma bear (of Any species) & her babies!!! I love how you share some of your encounters with nature…sigh…

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,
