The Deagel Report — AND Logic

I was going thru my tabs, deleting old articles and this one sparked a HMMMmmmm. Especially given the Deagel Report. (This is a fast post so it has not been checked for errors.)

2025 is not here yet and we have just imported 10-20 million illegals, many military age and hostile towards Americans. Are we looking at a much more violent ‘Summer of Love’ on top of ‘Defund the Police’, Soros funded prosecutors turning criminals lose and the Clot Shot slow poison??? See Thomas Wictor’s aka Carlos Osweda old thread on Democrats are implementing the Algerian Strategy in the United States. (Feb 7, 2020) and Feb, 9th 2020.

Here is the article:

MAY 7 Higher Mortality Rates and Lower Birthrates by Erik Carlson

…I believe we are allowed to veer off course of the Deep State narrative by five to ten degrees, but what they can’t afford is for us to veer off course 90 degrees. Veering off course 90 degrees doesn’t just make the Deep State narrative messy, as in the case with a five to ten degree shift, veering off course 90 degrees shatters the narrative completely…

Now for my bold and out of the box question

Is the Cabal flooding the US Southern Border with illegals so that we don’t notice a significant population decrease in America? This is not a statement; it is a legitimate question. I understand that flooding the border with illegals as well as flying illegals in from other countries probably has multiple purposes, but is one of them to hide the number of people who are now dying since the Covid vaccine has started to be administered, as well as a lower birthrate amongst US Citizens? [Wolfie’s AND Logic]

…10-20 million deaths, 10-20 million illegals entering the US. I don’t think it’s crazy to at least consider a connection here. Imagine how many people would wake up if the US population went from 330 million to 310 million in a couple of years? …

The average American knows about 600 people. 3-6% of 600 people would be 18-36 people. It’s not that crazy to think during the past few years many people haven’t already lost 18-36 people that they know.

Let’s not forget about birthrates. If people are becoming sterile, and dying prematurely, the American birthrate will start to fall very quickly….

Is this why ILLEGAL SQUATTERS are now being encouraged? As I mentioned, I just had a gig canceled because the lady found her parents’ house that she inherited was now occupied by a squatter. This is NOT NYC but North Carolina.

This is a study that dovetails nicely with what Erik Carlson is saying above.

Why Did the CDC Silence the Million Dollar Harvard Project Charged With Upgrading Our Vaccine Safety Surveillance System?

The entire article is worth reading [CONGRESS KNEW 3 DECADES AGO – GC]

…In 2000, the 6th Report by the Committee on Government Reform addressed the failings of VAERS in its address of the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program… .

In a 1994 report on vaccines and adverse events the IOM stated, “The lack of adequate data regarding many of the adverse events under study was of major concern to the committee…Although the committee was not charged with proposing specific research investigations, in the course of its review additional obvious needs for research and surveillance were identified, and those are briefly described here.”…”

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) gave Harvard Medical School a $1 million dollar grant to track VAERS reporting at Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare for 3 years and to create an automated reporting system which would revolutionize the VAERS reporting system- transforming it from “passive” to “active.” …

What were the results?

Data was collected from June 2006 to October of 2009 on a total of 715,000 patients. Of those 715,000 patients, 376,452 were given 1.4 million doses of 45 different vaccines. A total of 35,570 possible adverse reactions were identified, so 2.6% of vaccinations were followed by a possible adverse reaction.…

Let’s just take a minute to reflect on that last sentence. Out of only 376,452 individuals that received a vaccine at this Harvard practice, the new automated system identified 35,570 possible adverse reactions in a three year period. How does that stack up to the number of adverse effects reported to VAERS? According to the CDC, only 30,000 adverse events are reported every year for the entire US population.…

I’ll quote the findings directly from the report, “Adverse events from drugs and vaccines are common, but underreported. […] Likewise, fewer than 1% of vaccine adverse events are reported. Low reporting rates preclude or slow the identification of ‘problem’ drugs and vaccines that endanger public health. New surveillance methods for drug and vaccine adverse effects are needed.”…

What was the CDC’s response?

Basically, the same response your average college student falls back on when they decide they are no longer interested in continuing a relationship- they cut all lines of communication. No more answering phone calls or emails. You heard me correctly, the United States of America Centers for Disease Control ghosted Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, Inc….

AND the usual cabal, “lets get out in front of the bad news gambit.” Admit there may be SOME truth but down play it. So instead of the ‘factor’ of 100 determined PRIOR to covid, added to the fact VAERS was playing games with the reports submitted so even those events that were reported were not recorded, they admit to 20%.

SEE: May 2022 Evidence that VAERS Reports are being Deleted

Dec. 15, 2021 New Columbia University “Vaccine” Study Drops Bombshell: VAERS Deaths Undercounted by Factor of 20

“…Comparing our estimate with the CDC-reported VFR (0.002%) suggests VAERS deaths are underreported by a factor of 20, consistent with known VAERS under-ascertainment bias….”

So in 2017, A well designed study finds VAERS is only picking up 1% of the actual adverse events.

Are there any links between anaphylaxis and Covid initiated cytokine storms?

ANAPHYLAXIS:

MAYO CLINIC:

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction… In anaphylaxis, the immune system releases a flood of chemicals that can cause the body to go into shock. Blood pressure drops suddenly, and the airways narrow, blocking your breathing. The pulse may be fast and weak, and you may have a skin rash. You may also get nauseous and vomit. Anaphylaxis needs to be treated right away with an injection of epinephrine. If it isn’t treated right away, it can be deadly.

CYTOKINE STORM

A cytokine storm is a phenomenon that was first described in medical literature in 1993. It is an uncontrolled inflammatory response caused by an excessive number of small proteins called cytokines… A cytokine storm is caused by an overreaction of your immune system to something it senses as dangerous. Sometimes this can happen even in the absence of a foreign substance…. Cytokine storms often result from infections, but can also be triggered by some types of immunotherapy or autoimmune disorders.

…Several studies have reported that cytokine storms are an important cause of disease deterioration and death in COVID-19 patients. Consequently, it is important to understand the specific pathophysiological processes underlying how cytokine storms promote the deterioration of COVID-19. Here, we outline the pathophysiological processes through which cytokine storms contribute to the deterioration of SARS-CoV-2 infection and describe the interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and the immune system, as well as the pathophysiology of immune response dysfunction that leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and coagulation impairment. Treatments based on inhibiting cytokine storm-induced deterioration and occurrence are also described….

VACCINES FOR POPULATION CONTROL

THE WHOLE HAPPY CROWD OF EUGENICISTS

For this section, I am going to look at other information I dug up about vaccines.

For a start, I go through a little of the history in the article: DEPOPULATION – NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE

When it comes to VACCINES as a weapon of the Eugenists, I always want real world data to back an allegation up. There is this very interesting report from the UN on African fertility from a couple decdes ago.

Demographic Change in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Barney Cohen reviews levels, differentials, and trends in fertility for more than 30 countries from 1960 to 1992. He finds evidence of fertility decline in Botswana, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, confirming the basic results of the DHS.

What is new here though is his finding that the fertility decline appears to have occurred across cohorts of women at all parities, rather than just among women at middle and higher parities, as might have been expected on the basis of experience in other parts of the world. He also presents evidence that fertility may have begun to fall in parts of Nigeria and possibly in Senegal….

I go into why vaccines in very young children is probably a BIG waste of money or worse: MOAR And Logic — VACCINES

VACCINE SCHEDULE  Birth to 15 Months

That is a whole heck of a lot of foreign substances to be injecting into a baby but it sure is a BIG money maker!

First I am NOT a doctor and I do not have human kids. Mine are goat kids and lambs. However we are all mammals so at least some information applies across species.

Starting with newborns:
Colostrum definition:

A sticky white or yellow fluid secreted by the mammary glands after giving birth, rich in antibodies. The antibodies absorbed by the newborn protect against systemic invasion by pathogens — The importance of colostral immunoglobulins and their absorption from the intestine of the newborn animals from the National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine

Vaccination:

Kid goats that had passive immunity from immunized dams, don’t get their CD/T vaccination until 8 weeks and again at 11-12 weeks. My vet doesn’t recommend doing it earlier. HOWEVER If the kid didn’t receive its mom’s colostrum or if the doe didn’t get vaccination a month or so before birth, you should vaccinate the kid at the age of 1 to 3 weeks and again three to four weeks later. (And PRAY)

Sheep 201: Flock vaccinations written by Susan Schoenian, Sheep & Goat Specialist at the University of Maryland’s Western Maryland Research & Education Center in Keedysville, Maryland.

Passive immunity
Vaccines are
not very successful in young lambs, 1-2 months of age. For this reason, vaccination strategies recommend vaccinating pregant ewe to confer passive immunity to the lambs through the colostrum (dam’s first milk). Ewes should be vaccinated with the CDT toxoid approximately 4 weeks prior to lambing. Ewes lambing for the first time will need to be vaccinated twice in late pregnancy, four weeks apart. Maternal antibodies will protect lambs for six to eight weeks so long as lambs consumed adequate amounts of colostrum. It is recommended that a lamb consume 10 percent of its body weight in colostrum.

Lambs

Lambs should receive their first clostridal vaccination when they are approximately 6 to 8 weeks of age, followed by a booster 4 weeks later. If pastured animals are later brought into confinement or dry lot for concentrate feeding, a third vaccination should be given. Some experts recommended giving artifically-reared lambs multiple vaccinations.

Lambs whose dams were not vaccinated for C and D can be vaccinated with some success at two to three days of age and again in two weeks.

However, later vaccinations will likely be more effective, as colostral antibodies usually interfere with vaccinations at very young ages. 👉 The lamb’s immature immune system may also not be able to respond to vaccination at such a young age.

Lambs and goats are usually weaned at 2 to 3 months, horses at 4 to 6 months. (my vet recommended not vaccinating a foal until 4 months of age.) Lambs and goats live to mid teens, horses into there 20s and 30s. Human babies are weaned naturally sometime between 2 and 4 years of age. Humans live into their 70s and 80s. Animals are usually vaccinated AFTER they are weaned!

58% of infant deaths reported to VAERS occurred within 3 days of vaccination, research shows (This from ANY vaccine not just Covid)

…Prior to contemporary vaccination programs, SIDS — sometimes referred to as “crib death” — was so infrequent it was not mentioned in infant mortality statistics…. By 1980, SIDS had become the leading cause of postneonatal mortality (deaths of infants from 28 days to one year old) in the U.S…

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

A Table Prepared

In Psalm 23:5, King David says to the Lord, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies,” portraying his close relationship to God as an honored dinner guest of a generous and capable host. As a gracious host, the Lord attends to David’s every need, showering him with personal care, abundant goodness, protection from his enemies, and eternal blessings.

David had many adversaries, but in the presence of the Lord, seated at His table, they posed no threat because David had guest-rights with the Lord. In the ancient East, a host was obligated to safeguard his visitors from all enemies at all costs.

Psalm 23 begins, “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” The psalm’s central theme—that David lacks nothing—is reinforced through every line. The word my underscores the intimacy of David’s up-close relationship with God. David acknowledges that God is always with Him, looking out for his good, even in the darkest “valley of the shadow of death” (verse 4). Even in the most challenging circumstances—“in the presence of my enemies” (verse 5)—David lacks nothing because His God is with him, supplying his every need and looking out for his welfare.

David’s assertion, “You prepare a table before me,” is equivalent to Paul’s declaration, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). This theme of God’s constant provision and protection echoes in Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians: “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God” (Ephesians 3:16–19, NLT).

When we are invited to someone’s house for dinner, we cannot open the host’s refrigerator and grab whatever we want to eat. We depend on the host to place dinner on the table for us. We wait to be offered food and drink. Thus, the statement, “You prepare a table before me,” highlights David’s dependence on God.

The same God who “spread a table in the wilderness” for the children of Israel by providing daily manna for them to eat (Exodus 16:15; cf. Psalm 78:19) would supply all the provisions and help King David would need. David’s confidence in God dovetails with the encouragement in Hebrews 4:16: “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (NLT).

God (the Host) welcomes His guest (David) to a feast already prepared and spread out for him on the table. As it was for David, it is for all believers who accept the invitation to dine at the Lord’s table (Isaiah 25:6–9; Matthew 22:1–14; Luke 13:29–30; Revelation 19:9; 21:2–4). Like David, we depend on God to provide our material and physical needs (Psalm 104:27); we lean on Him for understanding and direction in life (Proverbs 3:5–6); we rest in Him through prayer (Philippians 4:6; 1 Peter 5:7); and, most importantly, we depend on God for our salvation (Ephesians 2:8–9).

You prepare a table before me means God’s “divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). Yet it’s not only in this life that God meets our needs. God is our gracious and bountiful benefactor for both our bodies and souls for all time and eternity.

2024·05·11 Joe Biden Didn’t Win Daily Thread

What is it that feeds our battle, yet starves our victory?

January 6 Tapes?

Where are the tapes? Anyone, Anyone? Bueller? Johnson??

Paging Speaker Johnson…this is your conscience calling you out on broken promises.

News Flash

Today, it is still the case that Joe Biden didn’t Win.

I realize that to some readers, this might be a shock; surely at some point things must change and Biden will have actually won.

But the past cannot actually be changed.

It will always and forever be the case that Joe Biden didn’t win.

And if you, Leftist Lurker, want to dismiss it as dead white cis-male logic…well, you can call it what you want, but then please just go fuck off. No one here buys that bullshit–logic is logic and facts are facts regardless of skin color–and if you gave it a moment’s rational thought, you wouldn’t either. Of course your worthless education never included being able to actually reason–or detect problems with false reasoning–so I don’t imagine you’ll actually wake up as opposed to being woke.

As Ayn Rand would sometimes point out: Yes, you are free to evade reality. What you cannot do is evade the consequences of evading reality. Or to put it concretely: You can ignore the Mack truck bearing down on you as you play in the middle of the street, you won’t be able to ignore the consequences of ignoring the Mack truck.

And Ayn Rand also pointed out that existence (i.e., the sum total of everything that exists) precedes consciousness–our consciousnesses are a part of existence, not outside of it–therefore reality cannot be a “social construct” as so many of you fucked-up-in-the-head people seem to think.

So much for Leftist douchebag lurkers. For the rest of you, the regular readers and those lurkers who understand such things: I continue to carry the banner once also carried by Wheatie. His Fraudulency didn’t win.

Let’s Go, Brandon!!

His Fraudulency

Joe Biteme, properly styled His Fraudulency, continues to infest the White House, we haven’t heard much from the person who should have been declared the victor, and hopium is still being dispensed even as our military appears to have joined the political establishment in knuckling under to the fraud.

One can hope that all is not as it seems.

I’d love to feast on that crow.

(I’d like to add, I find it entirely plausible, even likely, that His Fraudulency is also His Figureheadedness. (Apparently that wasn’t a word; it got a red underline. Well it is now.) Where I differ with the hopium addicts is on the subject of who is really in charge. It ain’t anyone we like.)

Justice Must Be Done.

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.

Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.

Lawyer Appeasement Section

OK now for the fine print.

This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Poltical correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines,  here, with an addendum on 20191110.

We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.

And remember Wheatie’s Rules:

1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. Zeroth rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government get your guns.
5. Rule one of gun safety: The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

(Hmm a few extras seem to have crept in.)

Spot Prices.

Kitco Ask. Last week:

Gold $2,360.70
Silver $28.23
Platinum $1,003.00
Palladium $1,005.00

I Will Fear No Evil

In one of the most consoling passages of the Bible, we discover this confident claim: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). The psalmist, King David, has learned that God’s presence with him overcomes even the very worst things he can face in life.

Psalm 23 introduces us to the Lord as a faithful, loving, and compassionate Shepherd, an image that’s familiar throughout both the Old and New Testaments. As we get to know God as our Shepherd, we begin to see how He guides us, cares for us individually, and protects us. We realize that we lack nothing because our Shepherd is with us, directing our path and looking out for our every need. Even if He leads us into a dark valley we, like David, can say, “I will fear no evil.”

The word translated “evil” in the original Hebrew language means “that which causes harm, misfortune, trouble, danger, destruction, or injury of any kind.” Even in the most challenging times, David says he would not fear any harm. We don’t have to be afraid because the Lord our Shepherd walks with us through the dark valleys of life. He is with us in times of loss, illness, injury, and grief. Even in the blackest seasons of life, we don’t have to fear harm because God is with us.

God has repeatedly given this reassurance to His faithful followers throughout the Bible. To the patriarchs, God said, “Fear not, for I am with you” (Genesis 26:24, ESV; see also Genesis 15:1). To the armies of Israel, the Lord promised, “When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you” (Deuteronomy 20:1).

As Joshua and the people of Israel prepared for battle against enemy nations in the Promised Land, God said through Moses, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6; see also 31:8). Through the prophet Isaiah, God proclaimed, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand (Isaiah 41:10, NLT; see also 41:13; 43:5). The writer of Hebrews reminds us of God’s promise, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Fearing evil and trusting God don’t mix. When we are confident in God’s goodness, we can say with the psalmist, “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1). If we believe that God is on our side, we acknowledge, “The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (Psalm 118:6, NLT). When we start to experience fear, we know it’s time to put our trust in God (Psalm 56:3). As we turn to Him in prayer, He will free us from fear and fill us with His supernatural peace (Psalm 34:4; Philippians 4:6).

In our darkest, most trying times, we must remember that God is near (Psalm 34:18). He is our Shepherd, and we are in His constant care. Throughout our lives and even in death, His goodness and love will never fail us (Psalm 23:6). Only when we are secure in the knowledge that our Good Shepherd is with us can we confidently say, “I will fear no evil.”

2024·04·27 Joe Biden Didn’t Win Daily Thread

What is it that feeds our battle, yet starves our victory?

Speaker Johnson: A Reminder.

And MTG is there to help make it stick.

January 6 tapes. A good start…but then nothing.

Were you just hoping we’d be distracted by the first set and not notice?

Are you THAT kind of “Republican”?

Are you Kevin McCarthy lite?

What are you waiting for?

I have a personal interest in this issue.

And if you aren’t…what the hell is wrong with you?

Booting a RINO

I’ve spent the last couple of years pounding home the message that RINO McDaniels was a symptom of a problem…a party shot through with RINO officials. In this instance it was the hundred or so members of the RNC who gleefully voted for her again, and again, and again.

Well I got to help take one of those hundred people down, as told here: https://www.theqtree.com/2024/04/07/i-aim-to-raise-a-ruckus/. What’s even better is that oxygen thief was apparently boiling mad at how poorly she did in the vote (according to a MAGA candidate for a county office I spoke to last Tuesday night (4/16)). Apparently she felt entitled to her office no matter what the rubes think…and that attitude turns people into RINOs.

Judging from the number of comments received few noticed or cared about the post, but nonetheless I noticed a pattern: Hardly anyone who regularly puts forth “devolution” or “this is all a movie” theories (or any other variant of the idea that Trump and/or his allies are really in charge) seemed to care about it. I described successful action against the enemy and they didn’t care.

I submit that that is the desired effect of such ideas as devolution…to get people on our side not to care, not to participate, not to fight, because they believe someone else will do it for them. “Nothing can stop what is coming?” Great! I don’t have to lift a finger, just be ready to microwave some popcorn!

If any of you really are thinking like this, you might as well be controlled opposition. You’re doing exactly what the other side wants you to do, sitting on your hands waiting for deliverance by deus ex machina.

Spot (i.e., paper) Prices

Last week:

Gold $2,392.20
Silver $28.75
Platinum $943.00
Palladium $1,052.00
Rhodium $5,300.00

This week, 3PM Mountain Time, Kitco “ask” prices. Markets have closed for the weekend.

Gold $2,338.40
Silver $27.26
Platinum $923.00
Palladium $967.00
Rhodium $5,275.00

Gold and silver took an absolute beating on Monday morning. Monday was payday for me, and the precious metals in general cratered so hard that I woke up poorer on Monday, even having just been paid, than I was when I went to bed on Sunday. I suppose that makes up for the handful of times in the past few weeks where my paycheck was less than half of my added net worth that pay period.

Precious metals haven’t recovered from that beating, but seem to have stabilized–somewhat–around Friday’s price. Which is still vastly higher than the price was a few weeks ago.

The AMA EdHub: Window to “Establishment Medicine”

The above image is from the Textbook of Anatomy and Physiology, by Kimber, Gray, and Stackpole. Published by The Macmillan Company; eleventh edition, 1944. (Image courtesy of Laurel Leaf Farm.)

This post, part of a series on the disaster of COVID-19 and the COVID-19 “vaccines”, is dedicated to the memory of Yours Truly’s cousin Bill, who “died suddenly and unexpectedly” in September 2023. Today’s offering will speak to what might be called a “tangential” issue: the American Medical Association (the AMA.) Yours Truly will make it clear at the outset that today’s post is not to be construed as a “hit piece” on the AMA; also, that there are likely many members of the AMA who are not “beholden” to blindly accept everything that the AMA publishes. The point of today’s piece, in one’s opinion, is that the current AMA apparently sees itself as a sort of “arm” of “establishment medicine” (in other words, of the FDA and the CDC); in addition to becoming an organization that advocates what may be called “medico-political” viewpoints. First, before discussing the AMA Edhub, some items about the organization:

It is fair to posit that the American Medical Association (also referred to as the AMA) is the largest and most powerful medical doctor organization in the United States. The AMA has also become, arguably, the most powerful medical organization lobbyist in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

The American Medical Association was founded in 1847. In the year 2022, it had 271,660 members, and $493,147,829 in revenue (per Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Medical_Association). Further information on the history of the organization is found here: www.ama-assn.org/about/ama-history. The AMA does not publish a membership directory as of the year 2021: https://myama.my.site.com/s/article/Does-the-AMA-have-a-member-directory, stating the following: “The privacy of our customers’ [presumably, this means “members'”] data is something we take very seriously.” On the other hand, the 2022 census of the Federation of State Medical Boards listed a total of 1,044,734 licensed physicians in the United States (www.fsmb.org/advocacy/news-releases/fsmb-physician-census-identifies—1044734-licensed-physicians-in-u.s/). This means that 26% (271,660) of the licensed physicians in the United States belong to the AMA. (Side note: members of the AMA have “exclusive discounts” towards purchasing new Mercedes-Benz and Volvo cars: www.ama-assn.org/member-benefits/personal-member-benefits-discounts/auto-transportation-discounts).

The American Medical Association is a “heavy-spender” lobbyist to the United States federal government, spending at least $15 million per year in this effort since 1998: www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/american-medical-association/ (this article also has a history of the AMA, the organization’s views on healthcare policies, and so forth); in the year 2022 alone, the AMA spent $21,060,000 on federal government lobbying, per Open Secrets: www.opensecrets.org. A screenshot of the Influence Watch report on the AMA is below. Note that the AMA owns the exclusive rights to the medical expenditure reimbursement codes system for Medicare and Medicaid (the CPT codes.) This entails the payments of “rights and royalties” to the AMA. For further information, please refer to: https://microwize.com/why-do-i-have-to-pay-a-fee-to-use-cpt-code/, 14 December 2022.

The AMA, as can be inferred from the above screenshot, is also involved with the FDA and the CDC. Two examples: the AMA’s lobbying efforts with these agencies regarding advocacy for COVID-19 programs of various types, along with other advocacy efforts: www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/public-health/covid-19-amas-recent-and-ongoing-advocacy-efforts (1 June 2022 report); www.ama-assn.org/topics/coronavirus-vaccines; and, www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/public-health/covid-19-2019-novel-coronavirus-resource-center-physicians (updated 17 April 2024.)

The AMA has a “membership dues schedule”, ranging from $20 for a 1-year medical student membership, through a $420 per year dues fee for a “Regular practice” physician who belongs to the AMA. And, there are other types of membership available (corporate and e-membership.) www.amanet.org/membership/. There are other types of corporate and institutional memberships available through the AMA Foundation, also called the “Roundtable.” (https://amafoundation.org/donors/corporate-donors/). A screenshot of the “Silver Level” corporate donor list to the AMA is below (the “Silver Level” requires a $30,000 contribution to the AMA Foundation, presumably paid each year by each donor company):

Two other areas of AMA effort are in physician Continuing Education and in publishing. Members of the AMA who are licensed medical doctors can fulfill their Continuing Education accreditation through courses offered by the organization. These courses are offered via various methods: www.ama-assn.org/topics/contuning-medical-education. The AMA also publishes a journal, known as JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association): https://jamanetwork.com/. The website is open-access, and there are hundreds of peer-reviewed articles from thirteen different JAMA specialty journals available for public reading for several months after articles are published. As might be expected, the AMA advocates for what might be called “establishment medicine” — for example, championing FDA-authorized or FDA-approved treatments and drugs for COVID-19 infection.

Yours Truly will include part of the Abstract (below) of a recent paper published in JAMA, regarding people who mistrust “establishment medicine” (in other words, they may mistrust FDA-authorized or FDA-approved) treatments for COVID-19. This paper, in Yours Truly’s opinion, demonstrates the AMA’s official attitude towards those who question or refuse “establishment medicine” treatment of COVID1-19 and pursue other, alternative treatments — that these people are “being misled” by “misinformation” and may use that “misinformation” to avoid “health-promoting behaviors.” The paper is found here: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2809985, “Misinformation, Trust, and Use of Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19”, Roy H. Perlis, MD, et al., published 29 September 2023. Dr. Perlis is Associate Editor of JAMA Network Open.

It appears that the AMA is “leading the charge” on “medico-political” topics, such as “climate change”, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), “equity of access to care” for illegal immigrants, “gender equity”, and more.

This leads to the AMA EdHub discussion.

The AMA EdHub website features online courses and Continuing Education (CME) fulfillment modules for physician members (https://edhub.ama-assn.org). These courses and modules are presented in various ways: webinars; video and/or audio courses; papers to be read; and so on. One does not have to be a member of the AMA in order to access and read many of the courses and modules; in fact, the AMA states that, “The AMA EdHub is open to anyone.” (https://education.ama-assn.org/help/, the “FAQ’s” section); interested persons simply open an account. However, only licensed physicians who belong to the AMA can fulfill their CME credits using the AMA EdHub. https:///edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/ama-cme, section “Target Audience“; and, www.ama-assn.org/member-benefits/personal-member-benefits-discounts/ama-ed-hub-member-benefits.

On other hand, the AMA EdHub provides a good “snapshot” of the current modes of thought in “establishment medicine”, as well as current trends in treatment and in the teaching of medical school students, among other topics. For example, there are CME modules and online courses related to DEI; to “anti-racism in medicine”; “equitable patient care”; and other what may be termed “medico-political” topics areas. Here is a link to one such example, a CME module: https://edhub.ama-assn.org/clinical-problem-solvers-antiracism-podcast/audio-player/18843339, “Episode 23 – Anti-Blackness, Anti-Fatness, and Food Shaming”, 9 January 2024. This somewhat over one hour audio module (with a Transcript that can be read) can be used, after the physician takes the Quiz, to earn one CME credit. The Learning Objectives listed for this module are: “1. Explain how anti-fatness and food shaming culture in the US is rooted in anti-Blackness 2. Describe the intersection of policing and the court systems with anti-fatness and food shaming 3. Identify ways to navigate clinical interactions with patients while respecting them and affirming their experiences with food and fatness.”

The AMA Edhub also has a department devoted to “health equity” — https://edhub.ama-assn.org/ama-center-health-equity. From the main page of the link: “Education from AMA Center for Health Equity AMA’s online education to empower individuals ad organizations, in healthcare and beyond, in advancing racial justice and equity.”

It appears that one area of particular emphasis in the AMA Center for Health Equity has to do with “gun violence prevention” — through “education” of medical students, practicing physicians, and patients — and working with the United States Congress. Here is a link to a recent video CME fulfillment presentation from the AMA Center for Health Equity: https://edhub.ama-assn.org/ama-center-health-equity/video-player/18867531, “Prioritizing Equity: Embracing Public Safety and Health for Improved Firearms Violence Prevention“, 2 April 2024. This video presentation has a Transcript that can be read. It appears, from reading the Transcript, that the AMA’s position on “gun violence prevention” goes beyond working through the criminal justice system. According to Dr. Megan Ranney, MD, one of the speakers interviewed on the video, “…it’s about separating someone from the potential to access a firearm at that moment of desperation, anger, impulsivity, hopelessness.” Dr. Ranney also states that, “…the amount of violence that youth are exposed to in urban neighborhoods far outstrips the amount of violence that people are exposed to in the military.” (Italics added)

The AMA EdHub has other areas of interest that offer online CME courses for AMA physician members, among them: promoting “race-conscious” admissions to higher education, including to medical schools: and, courses from The Fenway Institute, an organization that advocates for LGBTQIA+ and Transgender issues and persons. Here are links to examples of these AMA EdHub areas of interest: https://edhub.ama-assn.org/ama-center-health-equity/audio-player/18868328, 2 April 2024; “The SCOTUS Affirmative Action Ruling The Cost to the Physician Workforce and Historically Minoritized Communities (with a Transcript that can be read); and, https://edhub.ama-assn.org/fenway-institute-edu/video-player/18638799, 2 September 2021, “Affirming Care for People with Intersex Traits.”

In Yours Truly’s opinion, understanding the AMA EdHub is an important part in understanding how the AMA works to influence healthcare treatment practices, healthcare policies; and the United States Congress, through the AMA’s lobbying efforts.

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Valley of the Shadow of Death

Psalm 23:4, which reads, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (ESV), is one of the most well-known verses in the Bible. It is commonly used during funerals or by those approaching death. The message of Psalm 23:4 is one of comfort. We do not need to fear. God is with us, and His presence gives us strength and hope.

However, “valley of the shadow of death” is possibly not the most accurate translation of the original Hebrew text. The NIV, NLT, and HCBS translate the phrase as “darkest valley,” resulting in Psalm 23:4 reading as, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley . . . .” The Hebrew word for “shadow of death” is sal-ma-wet, which means “darkness” or “dark shadows.” It contains the same root as the Hebrew word for “death” (ma-wet), so it is easy to see why some Bible translators include the mention of death in Psalm 23:4.

In addition, the concept of darkness fits much better in the context of Psalm 23. Psalm 23, especially verses 1–4, uses the language of a shepherd and his sheep to describe our relationship with God: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. . . . Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:1–4).

Sheep do not understand the concept of death. They do understand, though, that entering a dark valley can be dangerous. The point of Psalm 23:4 is that, even when we might have reason to be afraid, we do not need to fear, because God is with us, and He will take care of us. He, like a shepherd, knows what He is doing and has our best interests in mind.

So, it does not appear that “valley of the shadow of death” is the most accurate translation in Psalm 23:4. A “dark valley” connects much better with sheep lying down in green pastures and beside quiet waters. However, the main point of Psalm 23:4 still definitely applies to death. Many people fear death, and those facing death certainly feel as if they are in a “dark valley.” But even in death we do not need to fear, for God is with us, and He will protect and comfort us through it all.

Paths of Righteousness

For the soul in need of restoration, Psalm 23 is perhaps the most comforting place to turn in all the Bible. King David, who had tended his father’s flocks as a boy, had come to know God as the shepherd of his life. In Psalm 23:3, David declares of the Lord, “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” (ESV).

David wrote this psalm during a time of spiritual renewal or revival. “He refreshes my soul,” says the New Living Translation; “He renews my life,” affirms the Christian Standard Bible. Like a sheep who lacks the typical animal sense of direction, David had lost his way. He had wandered off the right path.

But here, David affirms, “He leads me in the paths of righteousness.” The primary jobs of the shepherd in pasturing his flock were to lead the sheep in the right way, to food and water, and to fend off predators. The shepherd was responsible for the welfare and safety of the sheep.

The word paths in Psalm 23:3 refers to one’s “course of conduct.” The word for “righteousness” in the original language means “adhering to moral standards like honesty, justice, and uprightness.” Like a shepherd guides his sheep along the right way, God effectively leads His people on the correct path by His Word and through the Holy Spirit’s guidance (Psalm 19:7; 119:105; Isaiah 59:21; 63:11–14; Romans 8:14 ). God does all this “for his name’s sake” or, in other words, to bring honor and glory to His name.

In ancient Israel, one’s name was inseparably linked with his reputation and standing. God leads us in paths of righteousness because He is a righteous shepherd: “For you are my rock and my fortress,” David acknowledged, “and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me” (Psalm 31:3, ESV).

In Psalm 5:8, David prayed, “Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies—make your way straight before me.” As our life guide, the Lord assures us of faultless leading in straight paths. He is the ultimate companion for our journey. Like a professional travel guide, He stakes His name and reputation to guarantee our protection and safe arrival at the promised destination (Psalm 23:6).

The “paths of righteousness” depict the journey that leads to eternal life (Psalm 16:11). Proverbs 12:28 assures, “There is life in the path of righteousness, and in its path there is no death” (CSB). The Lord watches over those who walk on these paths (Psalm 1:6). As the proverb says, “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day” (Proverbs 4:18).

Believers are made righteous by faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Ephesians 2:8–9). By faith, we enter into a relationship with the one true God through Jesus Christ, His Son. Through the Holy Spirit, our Good Shepherd leads us on paths of righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:7; John 17:3; 1 John 2:25).

Sheep are known to stray from the path, and so are Christians. Yet, even if a believer falls into sin, as David did with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11:1—12:15), the Lord is committed to leading him back to the right path. The Good Shepherd goes after the one lost sheep (Luke 15:1–7). The Father waits for the prodigal son to return (Luke 15:11–32). The Lord shows us our wandering ways so that we can repent and have our souls refreshed and restored. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The disciple Peter is an excellent example of a straying follower who was pursued by the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord (Luke 22:58–62). After he fell, Peter, like David, was forgiven and restored by the Lord (John 21:15–19).

According to Scripture, paths of righteousness are the safest roads to travel (Proverbs 4:11–12; 10:2, 9). These paths are ultimately avenues of safety, wisdom, justice, right living, integrity, and eternal blessings (Isaiah 42:16; Psalm 119:35; Proverbs 8:20; 11:3). They are “ways of pleasantness” and “paths of peace” (Proverbs 3:17).

2024·04·13 Joe Biden Didn’t Win Daily Thread

What is it that feeds our battle, yet starves our victory?

January 6 Tapes?

Paging Speaker Johnson…this is your conscience calling you out on broken promises.

For all your high talk about your Christian moral background…you’re looking less and less like you have any kind of moral background.

If You are a Patriot and Don’t Loathe RINOs…

Let’s talk about RINOs, and why they are the lowest form of life in politics.

Many patriots have been involved with politics, often at the grassroots, for decades. We’ve fought, and fought, and fought and won the occasional illusory small victory.

Yet we can’t seem to win the war, even when we have BIG electoral wins.

I am reminded of something. The original Star Trek had an episode titled Day of the Dove. It was one of the better episodes from the third season, but any fan of the original series will tell you that’s a very low bar. Still, it seems to get some respect; at a time when there were about 700 episodes of Star Trek in its various incarnations out there, it was voted 99th best out of the top 100.

In sum, the plot is that an alien entity has arranged for 39 Enterprise crew, and 39 Klingons, to fight each other endlessly with swords and other muscle-powered weapons. The entity lives off of hostile emotions, you see and it wants a captive food source. (The other 400 or so Enterprise crew are trapped below decks and unable to help.) Each side has its emotions played and amplified by the alien entity; one Enterprise junior officer has false memories implanted of a brother who was killed by Klingons. The brother didn’t even exist.

Even people killed in a sword fight miraculously heal so they can go do it again.

The second best line of the episode is when Kang, the Klingon captain, notes that though they have won quite a number of small victories including capturing Engineering, can’t seem to actually finally defeat the Enterprise crew. He growls, “What power is it that feeds our battle yet starves our victory?*”

Indeed. He may have been the bad guy, but his situation should sound familiar.

We are a majority in this country. We have a powerful political party in our corner. There is endless wrangling.

And yet,

What power is it that feeds our battle yet starves our victory?

In our case, that power is the RINOs in our midst. They specialize in caving when on the verge of victory. Think of Obamacare’s repeal failing…by one Republican vote. Think of the way we can never seem to get spending under control (and now our entire tax revenue goes to pay interest on the debt; anything the government actually does now is with borrowed money).

We have a party…that refuses to do what we want it to do, and that refusal is institutionalized. If you’ve been involved with GOP politics, but haven’t seen this, it’s because you refuse to see it. Or because you are part of the problem yourself. (If so, kindly gargle some red fuming nitric acid to clear the taste of shit out of your mouth, and let those not part of the problem alone so they can read this.)

We fight to elect people, who then take a dive when in office. But it’s not just the politicians in office, it’s the people behind the scenes, the leaders of the national, state and county branches of the party. Their job is to ensure that real patriots never get onto the general election ballot. They’re allowed a few failures…who can then become token conservatives who will somehow never manage to win (Jordan), or can be compromised outright (Lauren Boebert?).

That way it doesn’t actually matter who has a congressional majority. I remember my excitement when the GOP took the Senate in 1980. But all that did was empower a bunch of “moderate” puddles of dog vomit like…well for whatever reason forty years later the most memorable name is Pete Domenici. And a couple of dozen other “moderates” who simply had no interest in doing what grassroots people in their party–those same grassroots people who had worked so hard to elect them–wanted them to do.

Oh, they’ll put up a semblance of a fight…but never win. And they love it when we fight the Dems instead of fighting them. Just like that alien entity, whose motto surely was “Let’s you and him fight. It’ll be delicious!”

If you think about it, your entire political involvement has come to nothing because of these walking malignant tumors.

That should make you good and mad.

The twenty five who blocked Jordan, and the hundred people who took that opportunity to stab Jordan in the back in the secret ballot should make you good and mad.

I’ll close this with another example of RINO backstabbing, an infuriating one close to home.

In my county, the GOP chair is not a RINO. She got elected when the grassroots had had enough of the RINOs. Unfortunately the state organization is full of RINOs, and the ousted county RINOs have been trying to form a new “Republican Party” and get the state GOP to recognize them as the affiliate. I’m honestly amazed it hasn’t happened yet.

In other words those shitstains won’t just leave when they get booted out; they’ll try to destroy what they left behind. It’s an indication that they know we know how important that behind-the-scenes party power is.

So they must be destroyed. That’s the only way they’ll ever stop.

We cannot win until the leeches “on our side” get destroyed.

What power is it that feeds our battle yet starves our victory?*

We know it. What is going to be done about it?

*NOTE: The original line was actually “What power is it that supports our battle yet starves our victory.” I had mis-remembered it as feeds. When I checked it, it sure enough was “supports” and that’s what I originally quoted. On further reflection, though, I realized my memory was actually an improvement over the reality, because feeds is a perfect contrast with starves. I changed it partway through the day this originally posted, but now (since this is a re-run) it gets rendered this way from the start.

If one must do things wrong, one should do them wrong…right.

RINOs an Endangered Species?
If Only!

According to Wikipoo, et. al., the Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) is a critically endangered species. Apparently two females live on a wildlife preserve in Sudan, and no males are known to be alive. So basically, this species is dead as soon as the females die of old age. Presently they are watched over by armed guards 24/7.

Biologists have been trying to cross them with the other subspecies, Southern White Rhinoceroses (Rhinoceri?) without success; and some genetic analyses suggest that perhaps they aren’t two subspecies at all, but two distinct species, which would make the whole project a lot more difficult.

I should hope if the American RINO (Parasitus rectum pseudoconservativum) is ever this endangered, there will be heroic efforts not to save the species, but rather to push the remainder off a cliff. Onto punji sticks. With feces smeared on them. Failing that a good bath in red fuming nitric acid will do.

But I’m not done ranting about RINOs.

The RINOs (if they are capable of any introspection whatsoever) probably wonder why they constantly have to deal with “populist” eruptions like the Trump-led MAGA movement. That would be because the so-called populists stand for absolutely nothing except for going along to get along. That allows the Left to drive the culture and politics.

Given the results of our most recent elections, the Left will now push harder, and the RINOs will now turn even squishier than they were before.

I well remember 1989-1990 in my state when the RINO establishment started preaching the message that a conservative simply couldn’t win in Colorado. Never mind the fact that Reagan had won the state TWICE (in 1984 bringing in a veto-proof state house and senate with him) and GHWB had won after (falsely!) assuring everyone that a vote for him was a vote for Reagan’s third term.

This is how the RINOs function. They push, push, push the line that only a “moderate” can get elected. Stomp them when they pull that shit. Tell everyone in ear shot that that’s exactly what the Left wants you to think, and oh-by-the-way-Mister-RINO if you’re in this party selling the same message as the Left…well, whythefuckexactly are you in this party, you lying piece of rancid weasel shit?

Justice

It says “Justice” on the picture.

And I’m sure someone will post the standard joke about what the fish thinks about the situation.

But what is it?

Here’s a take, from a different context: It’s about how you do justice, not the justice that must be done to our massively corrupt government and media. You must properly identify the nature of a person, before you can do him justice.

Ayn Rand, On Justice (speaking through her character John Galt, in Atlas Shrugged):

Justice is the recognition of the fact that you cannot fake the character of men as you cannot fake the character of nature, that you must judge all men as conscientiously as you judge inanimate objects, with the same respect for truth, with the same incorruptible vision, by as pure and as rational a process of identification—that every man must be judged for what he is and treated accordingly, that just as you do not pay a higher price for a rusty chunk of scrap than for a piece of shining metal, so you do not value a rotter above a hero—that your moral appraisal is the coin paying men for their virtues or vices, and this payment demands of you as scrupulous an honor as you bring to financial transactions—that to withhold your contempt from men’s vices is an act of moral counterfeiting, and to withhold your admiration from their virtues is an act of moral embezzlement—that to place any other concern higher than justice is to devaluate your moral currency and defraud the good in favor of the evil, since only the good can lose by a default of justice and only the evil can profit—and that the bottom of the pit at the end of that road, the act of moral bankruptcy, is to punish men for their virtues and reward them for their vices, that that is the collapse to full depravity, the Black Mass of the worship of death, the dedication of your consciousness to the destruction of existence.

Ayn Rand identified seven virtues, chief among them rationality. The other six, including justice, she considered subsidiary because they are essentially different aspects and applications of rationality.

Justice Must Be Done.

Trump, it is supposed, had some documents.

Biden and company stole the country.

I’m sure enough of this that I put my money where my mouth is.

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system. (This doesn’t necessarily include deposing Joe and Hoe and putting Trump where he belongs, but it would certainly be a lot easier to fix our broken electoral system with the right people in charge.)

Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2024 or 2026 is pointless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud in the system is not part of the plan, you have no plan.

This will necessarily be piecemeal, state by state, which is why I am encouraged by those states working to change their laws to alleviate the fraud both via computer and via bogus voters. If enough states do that we might end up with a working majority in Congress and that would be something Trump never really had.

Spot Prices

Last week:

Gold $2,330.20
Silver $27.54
Platinum $936.00
Palladium $1,026.00
Rhodium $5,150.00

This week, at Friday close:

Gold $2,343.90
Silver $27.94
Platinum $984.00
Palladium $1,072.00
Rhodium $5,200.00

Everything up. But this hides the real drama.

Earlier in the day on Friday, gold was over $2400 and silver touched $29. Then towards the end of the day both of them cratered, hard, ending up down for the day (gold down 25 bucks instead of up $35 or so, silver similar). But do note that silver is continuing to show signs of life.

Since Wednesday, January 20 at Noon EST, the bought-and-paid for Joseph Biden has been in the White House. It’s as good as having China in the Oval Office.

Joe Biden is Asshoe

China is in the White House, because Joe Biden is in the White House, and Joe Biden is identically equal to China. China is Asshoe. Therefore, Joe Biden is Asshoe.

But of course the much more important thing to realize:

Joe Biden Didn’t Win

New Moon On Monday

Yes. It was a new moon. They don’t get any newer than in an eclipse.

And it was a Monday.

So here we go:

Official Video…blocked from being played elsewhere as usual
And I can’t find one that’s not blocked. Sorry…

The Event

I am going to talk about the event here, the adventure of going to see it and how I took the pictures I am showing, but I’m not going to discuss the science (much); I will save that for Saturday (with, probably, some of the same pictures).

Where did I end up going? I concluded on Sunday Morning that the best shot would be Indiana. The page I was looking at showed it as “green” for cloud cover; huge swaths of Texas were red…now including Eagle Pass, which was yellow until Saturday.

So I drove to St. Louis on Sunday, and then re-checked the weather guess…Indiana had gone yellow, but much of Texas had also gone yellow. So I decided (tentatively) to go to Southern Illinois and assess with eyeballs. I ended up at Rend Lake off I-57, south of the intersection with I-64; specifically at the Ken Gray trailhead. I got there in plenty of time.

Over the course of the next few hours a number of other people also joined us in the parking lot. One group had a fully professional video camera with them; apparently they’re making a movie of some sort. Another had a 600 mm lens (a big white!). He set up on the other side of the road.

Although sometimes there was a thin haze (looking like a dispersed contrail, but much greater in extent), it would often clear up. There happened to be one of these during totality but it impeded our view too little to notice if at all.

I did not buy a new camera (despite my joke from last time); I did buy a new 20-stop neutral density filter. And then I put it and the lens on a cheaper camera (a Canon M6 mk II). Why? Because that camera has a crop sensor and the pixel density is much higher. In other words, the images of the Sun that I took would be higher resolution. I put a wide angle lens on the expensive camera hoping to capture the planets and comet during totality. (The comet, it turned out, was a pipe dream; no one knowledgeable expected to be able to see it, and in this context I was not knowledgeable.)

The tripod lets you swivel 360 around an axis, which can be tilted. I decided to try to tilt it at about the same angle as the sun’s path across the sky, to try to avoid having the Sun appear to rotate in the field of view. There’s no actual way to make this work since (except on the first day of Spring and Autumn) the Sun doesn’t follow a great-circle arc across the sky. I’d have needed an additional wedge between the tripod “head” and the camera. However, I probably came pretty close; at least the Moon seemed to exit the Sun opposite of where it entered. Since I didn’t have a drive motor anyway, it didn’t matter much.

I was in touch with someone in Texas (a bit further northeast than Eagle Pass); they weren’t much interested in photography but I got not-very-good cell phone pics taken through some sort of red filter. So I could report to all that it had started in Texas. I was relieved to hear that the Moon hadn’t disappeared overnight (that would be just my damned luck).

So here’s the Sun just before the festivities started (f/5.6, 1/1000, ISO 100, ND 20 filter. An ND 20 filter reduces the light by roughly a factor of a million without changing the color.)

Note a big, bold sunspot just above the center, another one further out at about 9:30.

The Sun Gets Mooned

In an eclipse the lunar farside faces the Sun. Please, it’s “far side,” not “dark side.” It faces away from us; it’s not dark. Especially not here; it’s lit.

(OK…I suppose it’s “dark” in the same sense that the “Dark Ages” were dark. Not literally dark, but few records were left so we have trouble “seeing” them from our vantage point today. Likewise until spaceflight we had no idea what the far side looked like.)

More importantly, though, the far side could be considered the backside, and so during an eclipse the Moon is pointing its backside at the Sun. Meaning the Sun is getting Mooned.

OK, childish humor aside…until the next time.

I took one shortly after the start; the Moon is moving in from the lower right.

And you can see the progression. I got one in fact just before the sun spot got occluded.

By now, the lighting looks strange. Even a bit before this if you put down the eclipse glasses and looked around, there was this funny twilight quality to the light, though it was from overhead. Seconds before totality it got downright spookily dark.

And then totality hit. And the eclipse glasses went away.

And yes, its impact is a hit. Like flipping a light switch, suddenly you see the solar corona, surrounding the blackest black you have ever seen…the actual dark side of the Moon. Looking around it was like a super bright moonlit night, probably brighter than any moonlit night ever is (even when it’s a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious moon).

I was close enough to I-57 to hear that truck traffic continued unabated during the eclipse. Hard to believe that some people either didn’t care, didn’t know…or simply couldn’t interrupt their work (if it were someone doing CPR or fighting a fire I could understand!).

This eclipse was long. I hastily unscrewed the filter from the lens, and took more pictures. (I probably should have reduced the ISO to 250 or so.)

This one shows the whole corona. I’m going to go back to my regular crop after this one. Notice around the edges of the Moon, a few pink areas. Those are prominences (flares). Remember that the Moon is still moving towards the upper left. This picture was early (as in, just as fast as I could unscrew the filter!!!!) and prominences up near the top are most visible.

Note in this one that a prominence at about 5 o’clock is very visible. In fact it was easy to see with the naked eye. Because of the Sun’s position and orientation in the sky, that one looked like it was at the bottom of the disc to our eyes. Closer to the end of totality the one on the right hand side became visible too but wasn’t as bright as the one at the bottom.

The prominence at the right is actually showing an arc.

But all good things must come to an end. And end it did.

When even the slightest sliver of the photosphere (the visible “surface” of the Sun) shows up, the corona is gone. As you can see in the picture above.

Our celebrity sunspot is back!

And here with the Moon just about to uncover the last sliver of the Sun’s disc, it’s over.

This eclipse was far better than the one in 2017, what with all the prominences and the greater duration of totality (I actually put the filter back on too soon, took it off and took the last two pictures).

If you missed it due to apathy or negligence…well it sucks to be you!

I could see as soon as I got back on the interstate that traffic northbound (to Chicago and St. Louis) was already jammed. And I was tens of miles away from St. Louis and hundreds from Chicago.

So I went south, intending to catch I-40 west at Memphis. It was longer, but probably faster. Even there the last 10 miles before the I-55/I-40 interchange took about an hour; Memphis too had eclipse jams, made worse by police blocking off exits on the way in.

I stopped in Conway, AR, and didn’t get going until late on Tuesday (I had just had two short nights and made up for it bigtime). I finally got home at 2AM Tuesday.

Now for the bad news. I was only able to see Jupiter and Venus. The comet was too faint. Mercury was simply lost in the glare. And Mars and Saturn were down in the trees.

And I had to guess about the right exposure to try to capture them on the wide angle lens. And I don’t know how bad my guess was, because I took two totally blown out white rectangles for pictures. Was I off by twelve stops? eighteen? Who knows. I didn’t even save them.

Hopefully on Saturday there will be a “regular” science post.
