Dear MAGA: Open Topic 20190101

This special NEW YEAR’S DAY 2019 (TUESDAY) open thread is VERY OPEN – a place for everybody to post whatever they feel they would like to tell the White Hats, and the rest of the MAGA world.

Say what you want, comment on what other people said, comment on people’s comments.  Keep it civil.  Treehouse rules, but expect lots of QAnon.

Remember – your greatest gift to President Trump is FIVE WORDS:

I AM PRAYING FOR YOU

We begin the year with a gentle reminder that it is very difficult to say anything to get kicked off this site, but we do have a short list of types of speech that MAY cause action on my part:

  • Words that physically injure or kill as in the movie Dune
  • Words or images that give DOJ communists actionable cause to suppress our speech or kill me in a framed justifiable homicide as a “violent person” of some kind. Typically this is legal speech which however constitutes “violent fantasy” toward somebody with communist privilege. They get away with it – we don’t. That’s OK. We are happy that we are not ☭☭☭THEM☭☭☭.
  • Actually illegal or similarly problematic speech such as real threats, doxxing, porn, etc. The usual stuff.
  • Calculated posting which is intended to discourage, divide, subvert, or undermine the site, usually in a Communist Democrat fashion. This does NOT include firm religious or irreligious principles of any kind, opinions which contradict other members or management, occasional Eeyore worship, or what is otherwise known as Free Speech. What I am talking about is communist abuse of Free Speech to undermine Free Speech. It’s a very tricky thing to spot and then nuke from orbit, but I’m extremely good at it. 😉

Enjoy your stay. This is a blessed place, and we intend to keep it that way.

Your time spent on this site, and your forgiveness of other members, are the only donations we ask for, or accept.

I think those are really good bets, Flep. My biggest wish, and only prediction, is that we will see justice being done this year and it will be glorious.

Harry Lime

Here are my three:
1) Maxine Waters loses her last remaining brain cell.
2) President Trump continues to make Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer look like complete morons (He really doesn’t have to try that hard but it is entertaining.)
3) Elizabeth Warren smoke ’em peace pipe.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Maxine Waters loses her last remaining brain cell.

Check your premises.

para59r

1. Some states toy with the idea of facial rec in the polling place. (happening in every other applicable parts of society why not there? )
2. Some states adopt a policy of forensic tracking of paper absentee ballots.
3. The ever influential Fleporeblog helps mainstream both one and two above and we cut down on 50% of voter fraud in the free states by 2020.
Hey! 🙂

tomf

Happy New Year Wolf. Number 3 of your wish list has a good chance.
The Commission on voter integrity (DHS) report was due on 12/22/18 if I recall.
Haven’t seen or heard any news as of today.
I’m under the impression that the trap was set for the midterms.
Fingers crossed.

Anonymoushorse

Q said that we would not hear about this before the new year in his last Q&A.

andrew1979

been waiting to hear on this report myself with exremem intererest and yet not a word…

Facial Recognition in the polling place.
Orwell’s 1981 makes this a chilling thought? Why? It’s already happening everywhere else from business to law enforcement, even the celebs are using it (talor swift) and when real conservatives show up to vote they show ID. Should not be a consideration. Put the tech already available to good use and regulate the rest of it where you can.
But they’ll never let us do it! Do it now and ask for permission later? Seriously lets stop some fraud. At least in the Free States where we have control.
How might it work?
It’s instant ID shared between polling stations. If you show up to vote at one place and then later show up at another you are given a provisional ballot (or presumption of innocence) until you can rectify which place you were supposed to vote at as per existing voting requirements (which may require prosecution if intentional fraud is detected) . Simple.
When picking up your ballot or ticket that allows you access to a voting machine your picture is compared to a constantly filling state wide (cross state if shared agreements can be made) data base that if recognizes you as to having voted earlier triggers the provisional ballot.
According to this video President Trump may have tried out something similar (something I hadn’t heard). The guy is clearly against it, however he gives no cogent reasons as to why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Slir-6-7vk “Smile! You’re on Facial Recognition Voting Cameras!”
Anyway, this way down in the thread now so I’ll likely bring this up at a latter time.

NebraskaFilly

As a Constitutionalist, I despise the thought of this but, given the fact this is being done already via the HART program within DHS……at least this invasion of our privacy can be used beneficially (hope no-one minds but I am going to post this link again).

I want SHA256 salted cryptographic hashing on the ballots, printed in realtime in numbers and scannable code on each real paper ballot, and ballot hash stored back in a database.
* The Paper ballot is the single source of truth for each unique and individual vote
* Each printed paper ballot has a unique random ID with UTC timestamp printed at the time of the vote, not in advance
* The human vote itself is NOT printed, but with human generated markings or punches.
* The ballot itself is checked for validity at the time of submission prior to acceptance. No hanging chads or rows of blacked out ovals are accepted.
* Paper ballots are printed on unique and weighted paper with watermarks, color and type are created under contract and not available on the common market
* The Unique ID + Salt + Content of the Ballot is hashed and stored in a DB
* DB is stored at the state level, not district level, district operators have no access
* DB is not monolithic but multiple unique witnesses
* A local record of the DB+Ballot transaction is printed at the polling location
* In the event of ballot packing, the paper ballots can be validated against the hash in the DB for integrity
* Ballots that simply go missing can be identified and quantified to assure integrity
There’s more I could say about it but that’s the gist. Though it sounds complicated it’s a very simple mathematical system that is repeatable and can be done by hand with the aid of a SHA256 hash calculator.
The beauty of hashes are that they are ONE WAY. You have to have the original information to validate integrity. But you have everything you need to determine INVALID content, quantify, and track it.
I DO NOT TRUST FACIAL RECOGNITION SOFTWARE.
Think: Who writes the algorithm?
Valid ID must be checked by a human at the polling location. The ID number must be recorded at the time of polling and must match the voting record.

para59r

michaelh’s hashtag salt thing will certainly come in handy for that.

para59r

This is certainly a good way to secure the vote taken. The problem that still exists is entry into the system (even in states that require ID like Texas, the people at the polling places don’t check the ID when it is a primary democratic polling prescient, that and multiple days of early voting lessen what vigilance there is). Add a retina scanner and immediate feed back to that scan having been used before and I’m all in.
For sake of argument, on who writes the algorithm for facial rec I’d assume this is only done in Free States not Slave States, so there should be some sort of control (not really, they all contract out). Couple it with who writes the algorithm for facial rec /retina scan for a bank? (coming if its not there yet).
Anyway the facial rec or even retina scanner is there to capture duplicate images on the first pass. Not sure if it’s that simple. A flag goes up with a duplicate image and then voter gets a provisional ballot or can question the data on the spot by asking for a deeper look that will put name to face? Sorry just throwing things out.
Now how can we forensically secure the absentee ballot? I was thinking along your lines when I mentioned it. Some sort of chemical tagging of the paper with a record out and back in from end user.
And again, I think securing the vote will come back up in one form or another on a latter thread. Look forward to hearing more.

michaelh

The system I proposed doesn’t address integrity of identity, sadly. It’s focus is on the integrity of the ballot itself.
I am not satisfied with the present state of biometrics. Too many BlackHat/DefCon presentations show how defeasible these biometric systems are. I had an auditor, former twenty year FBI retiree try to argue with me about it, telling me that the new fingerprint systems would track 64 minutia points and all this kind of stuff, and that the FIDO Alliance was busy making DNA biometrics work in realtime. I dug into it more and found plenty of implementation problems with biometric certainty, issues of liveliness, the problem of revocability… I bounced all this off Roger Grimes who is pretty well respected in the cybersecurity space, talks a lot about weaknesses of multi-factor authentication systems. He replied it was funny I sent this to him because he had an article on the topic that was scheduled to be published the next day, and that my spidey senses were correct.
Long and short, biometrics are great for unlocking doors and cell phones, any place where you can store biometric locally to a device. Banks and financial institutions use them to SIMPLIFY second-factor systems and provide customers a little security theater, NOT as is commonly believed to improve the assurance of identity. But any centralized biometric repository for authentication carries a lot of risk. Why do security people tell you not to use your SSN as your password? Because once it’s lost you can’t change it. How is that any different from a fingerprint or a retina scan? It’s not. Biometrics suffer from the problem of revocability: If someone steals your fingerprint, you can’t change it. That, and I’m very leery of having a national or statewide biometric data repository with everyone’s fingerprints, retinal scans, blood samples, and DNA on file. That in itself is an opportunity ripe for corruption.
But back to the polling places. You are very much correct with the polling places. I want to reiterate this: Anywhere you have a human system, and the humans are corrupt, the human system will break down. This WILL happen regardless of what other controls – biometric or otherwise – that you put in place. In my mind the weakness is the polling place itself being in need of poll watchers to monitor and audit activity, particularly for precincts known for corruption. I like this solution most because it is the simplest and most easily reproducible 😉 You can tell right away if the precinct worker is checking IDs by procedure, if they are scanning/swiping them, validating the information, and recording it on the ledger.
Just some thoughts – please feel free to poke holes in them 😉

Military personnel start getting removed and replaced with more MAGA folks

NebraskaFilly

Um….hey, now! Not ALL of the military personnel need to go! Only the globalists and those who do not honor their oath.

NYGuy54

with MAGA folks of course. As you said.

NebraskaFilly

No doubt….Mattis, tho…..he IS a globalist. But, he served his purpose, surely as our VSG planned, and then was sent packing. Whatever happens, I trust PDJT!

michaelh

There’s a BIG DIFFERENCE between having a different ideological vision than POTUS and the actor who is TRUE BELIEVER.
Peter Navarro is a good example – a total economic nationalist and architect of the economic reset. He cannot be trusted for one second as head of the EPA.
Every person in this administration that has been a rock star has had a huge asterisk beside their name. Every person that has left the asterisk has become more obvious afterward.
POTUS knows how to put the right people in the right spot for what their strengths are and what they can deliver.

Anonymoushorse

Here we go:
1. Nancy and the Dims will make total asses of themselves, leading to
2. Even the groggiest “Normies” taking note, leading to
3. THE STORM

pgroup

Finally a Flep comment I disagree with.
Nix on #3. China would rather lose a war than lose face. Xi would sign his own death warrant if he agreed to lopsided terms.

MysticRose80

I just have two, at the moment
– Chaos and dissention among the Democrats will come to public light. Watch Cortez-Ocascio very closely.
– One or two liberal news outlets will go belly-up

NYGuy54

wait until the blood red wolf moon hits in a few weeks…lol..he’s going to demand presents…

Thanks, Daughn, we love you, too. Love to all here.

Happy Blessed New Year Everyone.
I think someone near us is playing with M80s. Wow.

Plain Jane

They keep going off a distance away, but can hear them with all the windows closed. Wonder if it’s the fireman who blows off mega fireworks that get confiscated. 🙂

thetinfoilhatsociety

Possibly. We also light the biggest bonfires and do a lot of other really dumb stuff that is the stuff of legends. (I spent many years as a firefighter but I do something else now – there’s a reason not many women are FF’s – it’s very hard on our bodies, even more so than on men’s).

Anonymoushorse

Shhh, you’re not allowed to say that!

Plain Jane

Thank you for being one of our finest first responders.
About the fireman blowing off confiscated fireworks…not being critical, we think it’s funny.

Plain Jane

BTW, I believe you about doing the stuff of legends. My fav bro-in-law was a small town LEO. He was a riot, his stories made us totally crack up. Those guys were great with the teens in town also.

Lesbian Tennis Star Makes Stunning Statement About Transgender Athletes
https://activistmommy.com/lesbian-tennis-star-makes-stunning-statement-about-transgender-athletes/
The general consensus among run-of-the-mill leftists is that men who want to be women ought to be treated just like women.
But a growing number of feminists whose primary interest is the advancement and protection of women to have their own, man-free world are starting to speak out.
Naturally, considering the overwhelming attitude among cultural Marxists is that transgender interests trump cisgender interests on the intersectional hierarchy, the majority of people will push all women, no matter how “oppressed,” aside to make room for a man who identifies as a woman.
And any women who speak out against this do not go unpunished, like Tennis star and outspoken lesbian feminist Martina Navratilova.

Anonymoushorse

Wow, men are the new women. Will I have to wear pumps?- I have bad knees.

michaelh

Yeah I’m glad I’m already married. It was already confusing enough with same-sex “marriage”.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Whatever you do, do NOT wear a miniskirt around me.
My comments about adorable deplorable women getting an automatic +2 bonus on the Bo Derek 1-10 scale (and more points if they carry a gun)–with a presumption the score was quite high already anyway–apply to actual females only.

wheatietoo

Woo Hoo…the President’s EO about military tribunals becomes effective today.
Bring on The Storm!
http://petapixel.com/assets/uploads/2014/09/5dXhOPh.gif

andrew1979

we have until the third to get the party started sir!

wheatietoo

I think it does…because our President doesn’t do anything without a reason.
Why did Lindsey Graham bring it up and discuss it with Kavanaugh, during the hearing?
I would say that the dominoes are all lined up now.

bflyjesusgrl

Anyone know why there was such a long time limit before it became effective? Always found that curious.

Aubergine

I think it might have been a carrot to try to get people to make deals. It states this on the first page of the document:
“(c) Nothing in Annex 1 shall be construed to invalidate any nonjudicial punishment proceeding, restraint, investigation, referral of charges, trial in which arraignment occurred, or other action begun prior to the date of this order, and any such nonjudicial punishment proceeding, restraint, investigation, referral of charges, trial in which arraignment occurred, or other action shall proceed in the same manner and with the same effect as if the amendments in Annex 1 had not been prescribed.”
So, if I am reading this correctly (if not, help is appreciated!), it looks like any proceeding which began before this order was enacted continues as if it had NOT been enacted. Wouldn’t that be a way to avoid a tribunal, and get a civilian trial?

Anonymoushorse

Although my head is spinning from reading this (and from last night), it sounds like language “grandfathering” previous proceedings. I suspect that the time lag from signing to implementation is to allow for the ‘dust to settle’.

pgroup

I think it’s a way to prevent shyster attorneys from claiming a type of ex post facto defense (retroactive).

GA/FL

Maybe… because they had some building projects to complete at Guantanamo and couldn’t hold the (many) tribunals until they had the facility completed?

bflyjesusgrl

Ooh, excellent. Remember when Sessions did a tour of the facility? Maybe there is a plan!!

GA/FL

Trump has over 200 MILLION in building projects in Guantanamo – and it’s not soccer fields, recreation/entertainment stuff like Obama built.

Happy New Year!
Just found a confirmation that G Combs follows Q!
From CTH “presidential dailyP thread today, Page 1:
G. Combs says:
January 1, 2019 at 6:13 am
Bastiat, You have it in ONE! That was Obama’s mission. To set the stage for Hillary.
I know the 17th letter is not welcome but sometimes useful info can be gleaned (Like Follow the Wives)
Praying Medic mentions the 16 year plan to kill off the USA and I think that is correct although the plan is really over a century old. After ‘progressively preparing the battlefield’ by corrupting our banking system, schools, media, voting system…. The Obama/Hillary years were to be the coup de grâce. The final knife in the back.
♦️ Obama completely corrupted our federal government esp. the Rule of Law.
♦️ Soros corrupted state Rule of Law by funding SJW judges and state attorneys.
♦️ Obama’s DOJ was ALREADY prosecuting ‘Hate Speech’
♦️ Obama was importing and dispersing Terrorist cells and MS13 gangs throughout ‘Fly-over country’
♦️ Obama brought our country to the edge of bankruptcy by DOUBLING the national debt. (An IMF loan would put the USA under the control of the IMF BTW. link )
♦️ Obama used Presidential Agreements (not Constitutional Treaties) to sign onto all sorts of Globalist agendas.
😲In International Law Presidential Agreements = Constitutional Treaties😲
We were at the cliff’s edge of losing our sovereignty via the Trans-Pacific Partnership
The Trans-Pacific Partnership would allow an international Tribunal to TRUMP THE US SUPREME COURT. The Trans-Pacific Partnership says ANY treaty signed by the USA is covered and gives enforcement to treaties that up until now had no teeth to force compliance. The Trans-Pacific Partnership would provide the teeth. Remember international law sees no difference between an executive agreement, a congressional agreement or an actual Constitutional treaty.
The Sovereignty-Busting Trans-Pacific Partnership
Trans-Pacific Partnership Synopsis FROM THE US GOVERNMENT
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
This set the stage for Hillary.
If she had gotten to pick Supreme Court justices, we could kiss our Bill of Rights away.
AND I do not think that Judge Scalia would be the last Conservative Supreme Court justice to die ‘unexpectedly.’ Hillary is not known for her patience and who would be able to prosecute? As the 17th letter mentioned MS13 make GREAT disposable Assassins.

I’ve noticed G Combs making reference to Q, enough to realize she (?) follows Q. So far has evaded the Ban Hammer. Hopefully will find us if need be….

bflyjesusgrl

So all of you were banned after that crazy “Q” weekend? I did not know that. Most folks followed the host blogger’s wishes and refrained from Q posts, then he opens up the topic, then bans you, WTH?? THAT JUST AINT RIGHT!!! The negativity creep after mid-terms was sooo toxic and I felt it was harmful to my spirit. I was just heartsick missing the “best of treepers” and didn’t know why. My final straw was last Friday night. Due to custody issues, I celebrated Christmas with my niece and her sons. We had such a wonderful time! When I got home and checked OT all the posts were negative. I made up my mind to refuse to receive that ugliness anymore! Wolfm00n had made a surprise appearance on OT a few days before, so I decided to look him up on twitter. Very grateful that he left a breadcrumb for me to find you guys. Hope a few others will figure out the way home too 🙏

churchmouse

Welcome! Glad to see you!
Thanks for sharing your story. I agree v. much with your first few sentences: it ain’t right.
All best wishes for the New Year. You will enjoy it here.

Aubergine

Welcome!
You won’t find much negativity over here. It’s really nice. It’s great not to have your mood ruined every day!

bflyjesusgrl

Amen!

pgroup

For a small fee, I’ll provide negativity if you want.
/s 🙂

bflyjesusgrl

No, thank you, Wolf. Love what you’ve done with the place! 🤗

NYGuy54

what does OT mean? A lot of you use that.

bflyjesusgrl

other thread? The one that shall no longer be named, LOL😜

holley100

Means Sundance’s place Over There.

NYGuy54

ok ..the jargon threw me..it’s easy to type CTH.

michaelh

My secret is to not say anything that would get me banned.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

You tend to be loquacious, so I expect keeping your mouth totally shut over there (since anything could get you banned) would be tough.

michaelh

Chaff, Cover Fire 😉 It works.

Gudthots

I didn’t post anything over there (OT) to get banned.
I was only posting over here (OH) at the time.
During that period it seemed that someone from OT was reading OH,
as a handful of us had the ban hammer hit without actually posting OT.
My personal response was similar to when the faceBorg insisted I provide documentation of my identity in order to continue using their platform. — Whew. I’ve been set free. More time to do things that don’t suck the life out of me!

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Many were banned that weekend (Veteran’s Day, if I recall correctly); others just got disgusted and left. At least two of us (GeorgiaFL, now posting as GA/FL, and myself) got hammered long ago (May 8 of ’17 in my case) and for different reasons.
Different here, that’s for sure.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

That’s in part what I meant by people who left in disgust. Of course, there are those who know they aren’t banned, and don’t want to go over there either. The common denominator being it’s your choice, not SomeDunce’s.

TheseTruths

“At least two of us (GeorgiaFL, now posting as GA/FL, and myself) got hammered long ago…”
Me too.

Nor'easter

This is the first time I caught her (I believe her name is “Gail”) Q reference.
I was banned from CTH when I attempted to post a link to this site in an innocuous reply to one of her comments (totally nonpolitical comment and reply).
The ban appears to have been automatic, from when I clicked on “Post Comment”; therefore my reply never posted, and G Combs never got a chance to read it.
Considering who is present at the site that has been banned from CTH for Q references, I fear that G Combs may be on thin ice there.
I just wish we could find a way to extend a “branch” to her.
PS: I also recall reading one of her comments where she also has the “shovel thing” going on! Gotta love it!

Nor'easter

PPS:
G Combs also mentioned yesterday that she was battling pneumonia, so say a little prayer for her speedy recovery.

singularZoe

Saying prayers for Gail Combs. When I was on cth, learned more from her and from Wolfmoon than any other posters.

bflyjesusgrl

Something weird is/has been going on at OT for a while. Don’t think it’s WP, maybe an automatic ban on specific words in a post?? (Maybe Wolf can answer if u can stop the posts if they contain certain words??). It happens frequently, to many people. Some have suggested “they” just want you to give up. I have tired and abandoned posts several times. You type in a comment 3-4 times and it won’t post. But you type a comment saying your comment won’t post, and it Posts!!! 😡
One night I posted a comment 8 times before it would stick. I got smart. I wrote several what I thought were “censored” words with dashes like this…. de-class-ifi-cation, F-L-Y-N-N, Q-U-E….and it worked!!
WSB accused me of sending “smoke signals”, LOL. Hey, whatever works! Just don’t call me Pocahontas!😃

bflyjesusgrl

On second thought, I wouldn’t try Q at all. Maybe seven-teenth let-ter

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

For instance, apparently the word pr*verb (like the name of the OT book) was something that sent a post to the bin, at least over at Can’t Tolerate Heterodoxy it was. (I *think* it’s OK over here but took no chances as I don’t feel like having to do this twice.)

bflyjesusgrl

Yeah, it sounds like they can block words. I definitely think “declassify” was being blocked. It was really weird, you type comment, hit post, see message saying posting, refresh, then no post. Over and over it disappeared. But you type “my comment won’t post” and that shows up right away! Definitely manipulation.

bflyjesusgrl

Ahh, could explain it. I could tell SD was getting cranky. He went from fussing at folks to having an Editor block convos he didn’t like/want? I can recall a minimum of 3 times where he instantly bit people when he coulda/shoulda handled it better.

Sylvia Avery

I hope she finds her way here. I think she might! I have hope, anyway. Her posts were worth reading and so selfishly I hope she finds us here and becomes part of this group.

Cuppa Covfefe

I’ve seen Gail post at WUWT and chiefio’s blog. Maybe NoTricksZone, too… She’s a very good researcher, a skeptic both on big gov and CAGW “globull warming”, and I believe a research chemist and educator, not to mention rancher (I think – lots of references seem to indicate that)…

Sylvia Avery

She is bright, she may well find us. I hope so.

NebraskaFilly

THIS…..THIS is one of the major reasons I quite literally despise Lyin’ Canadian Ted!!! The TPP absolutely would have been our death knell, no doubt whatsoever in my mind. Add in his questionable Constitutionality and well, you get my drift! Yes, I know we need all the Senate seats we can get so he is, unfortunately, a necessary evil.

bflyjesusgrl

Can you imagine an International body having total/final control over US employees, our manufacturers? To heck with capitalism, our laws, courts, unions?? Pretty wild EU, One World Order type stuff. Thank God for President Trump!! Take note of all the politicians that were for it.

singularZoe

You’re right on target, Nebraska. It took me a while to see it about Cruz. Look at who is wife is.

michaelh

Ted was our Tea Party candidate in Texas. Getting him in the Senate was an epic Tea Party victory and people need to recognize that when he ran, there was no Trump to be the world’s John Galt. At that time ALL Republicans with virtually no exception were “free traders” – no one wanted to associate with Ross Perot. In retrospect it is clear that he is not perfect but I think people really underestimate the corrupting power of the Senate’s vote extortion machine – remember, that system did the exact same thing to Rand Paul. Ted is required to do a lot of fundraising and that means he has to pay the piper. If a Senator sounds inauthentic and phony, just remember who is holding the leash. Like most in the GOPe Uniparty that has meant walking a line on trade that Trump is bulldozing over. I think we’re expecting a herculean level of adherence to principles from Ted that he never held in the first place. Ted is being Ted, he’s not going to stop being Ted, and God Bless Ted even in his faults. Once he is unshackled from GOP money and fundraising requirements I’m confident he’ll sing a different tune. (Killing bad trade deals will deplete the GOPe’s money supply BIGLY.) He’s already had to suck up his pride and recognize he was wrong about POTUS, even though he hasn’t and won’t apologize publicly. He wouldn’t have won re-election with POTUS’ help and he knows it. He owes POTUS big time for rescuing him when POTUS had personal reasons to let him sink. If you don’t like Ted, trust me, you really wouldn’t have liked Beto. Beto wouldn’t have just put us in TPP, he would’ve been fighting for that and worse, selling American sovereignty to the highest bidder. If Beto can lie about his heritage – he isn’t even 1/1024 hispanic – there isn’t anything he won’t lie about.
OK hopefully that’s not too direct – lol… just my thoughts on the matter from someone who was in the fight.

NebraskaFilly

Hopefully this isn’t too direct: I will ALWAYS despise him! At least Beto admits to being an out-and-out socialist/globalist. Lyin’ Canadian Ted was ready to stab us ALL in the back while lying to us the ENTIRE time, as well as perpetuating this fallacy that he is a natural-born citizen! Just my thoughts as someone who was initially thrilled with him and got suckered, which leaves a distinctly bad taste. But we’re all good! We are all entitled to our opinions and beliefs. I have my own problems with my never-Trumper Sasse, who also buffaloed a bunch of Nebraskans! Happy New Year!

TheseTruths

I agree with you. I went round and round with some people about Cruz’s support for TPA, which fast-tracked TPP. Cruz signed a letter with Paul Ryan about their support. Link: https://paulryan.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398270
From this article:
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2015/06/03/2016-rubio-graham-refuse-to-answer-whether-they-read-obamatrade-before-voting-on-it/
“Cruz voted for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Pacific Rim trade deal…
“Cruz, a spokesman confirmed to Breitbart News, read the TPP text on May 12—the day before Paul did. That means Cruz read the TPP text 10 full days before voting on TPA on May 22.”
Cruz is a much better choice than Beto for Senate, but he needs to be kept in line, in my opinion.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I just realized, though, that there is one trick here (beyond the simple lie): “Every person in America should be able to work…” would necessarily include illegals physically (even if illegally) present here. So maybe that bit ISN’T a lie.

They lie, but they like it even better when they can tell the absolute truth and no one spots the real significance.

SD (I know, I know) has a brilliant post which picks up on one of our themes yesterday (wonder if he read it here) — i.e. why the GOP lets the Dems win all the time — and goes on to develop it into an essay on the uniparty’s support of open borders and, with that, the lucrative business of child trafficking.
Post name begins with ‘Democrats are The Party of Death’.
It ends with this:
‘President Trump is not only threatening to secure the border, he’s threatening a Washington DC-based business model that makes money for a lot of interests. The operation also has side benefits for the participants; child sexploitation, child labor, and yes, much worse (you can imagine).’

Aubergine

Reading this makes me wonder how on earth SD doesn’t believe Q.
Q has implied many times that “faith-based” charities and the Church are responsible for much of the child and human trafficking in the world. Q said it would be a choice to “know.”
SD says:
““Faith Based Immigration Services” is a code-speak for legalized human smuggling.
Human smuggling is big business. If you dig in to the IRS 990 forms you’ll see a lot of, well, “generous” wage/benefit perks. Golf, florists, cafe’s, mysterious leases, land purchases, third party mortgages, $$$ Spouses on the payroll, etc.”
And:
“Sad thing is, it’s you and me that are paying the South American human smugglers through U.S. taxpayer funds. Laundered through the immigration business bagmen at U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and/or, U.S. Catholic Charities, or Southwest Key Programs Inc; or Baptist Child and Family Services Emergency Management Division (BCFS-EMD), just to name a few.”
SD and Q are on the same page, and it’s like SD can’t see it.

churchmouse

IKR?!?
SMH …
Agree with you. They are saying the same doggone thing! Is SD envious of Q?
Now people on CTH are referring to Q as ‘the 17th letter’. Noticed that today.

Aubergine

They are trying their best to fly under the radar OT. They may not know we are here, and think there is all they have. I’m sad for them. I would have been really devastated by my banning without somewhere to go. Thanks, again, to Wolfmoon!

churchmouse

Oh, yes, I understand their intentions. But it is sad it came to that.
Agreed 110% on Wolfmoon’s graciousness in providing this haven for us.

NYGuy54

boy..he got outed years ago

holley100

Perhaps also frustration. SD put an incredible amount of time in the deep weeds analyzing the granular, then Q shows up and flies past it all.

churchmouse

Well said, holley!!
Hadn’t thought of that — very true! 🙂
SD: verbose, not always clear
Q: succinct, to the point

sobriquet3

Same with our President. He is short and to the point because he knows we have little time to win this battle. We have been lulled to sleep with political verbose for years. He speaks so all of us understands … regardless of your socioeconomic status. That is why I love him.

churchmouse

And so do all of us! 🙂

holley100

This makes a lot of sense to me. “Solders from two different wars”. Great way to put it. But fighting for the same side right? That’s why I don’t understand the Q Purge.

TheseTruths

SD’s “walking on the ground” with the DOJ is news to me.

churchmouse

Thank you, Wolfmoon, for allowing us to trust or not trust the plan.
Privately, I have questioned Q’s plan (predictions, etc.) but have never mentioned it here before now.
I haven’t ‘liked’ many of the Q-specific comments here, because I have questioned the plan of the 17th letter.
That said, it is good for those who trust Q to trust in Q with an enquiring mind.
It is no longer my personal preference to trust blindly, although I will still read Q’s posts and assess them accordingly in line with future events. Q has established past events.

TheseTruths

“Now people on CTH are referring to Q as ‘the 17th letter’. Noticed that today.”
That is interesting. I don’t agree with what that site is doing, including their banning me a couple of years ago. But I always maintain that it is SD’s site and he makes the rules whether we like them or not. We have a choice to stay or go. (I never tried to get back in under a different name or address, for example. I just left.)
So if SD doesn’t want Q discussed there, people need to respect that and move on. We need to see things for what they are and take people’s words seriously. Some people found that that site wasn’t what they thought it was. Trying to make it into something it is not will be fruitless. If there is some kind of plot within a plot that’s causing this, I don’t know about it and can’t know about it. Therefore, in my opinion, it’s better to take things at face value, especially someone’s actual words.

GA/FL

Agree completely.
It’s their site (SD and mods) and their written and unwritten rules, goals, values, beliefs, opinions, etc..
It’s up to each of us to decide if we are compatible with or can in good conscience play by those rules, live with those constraints, participate in their agenda/goals and share their values/beliefs.
As the Bible says, “Can two walk together unless they be agreed?” Amos 3:3

churchmouse

The point to remember, TheseTruths, is that some of us fall under different CTH banned headings.
We a) were banned previously for reasons other than Q, b) are still are banned (for Q or other) and c) were reinstated (for unknown reasons).
It’s not as if all of us purposely violated SD’s CTH rules on Q. At least one here didn’t violate any ‘Q rules’.
A lot of us did not even mention Q — or, for that matter, ‘the 17th letter’. So, please, don’t have a ‘go’ at us collectively. Many thanks.
In closing, many of us probably accept your general sentiment, but we were not knowingly violating SD’s rules.

TheseTruths

I think I don’t fully understand your comment. To clarify, I’m not “having a go” at anyone; merely stating my opinion that trying to sneak in comments about Q when SD said he doesn’t want Q discussion there is not something I would do AT THIS POINT. It is an anti-Q site now.
I am in no way saying there was justification in banning the Q posters earlier — especially when SD wrote an article about Q, and people naturally commented on it, and then people got banned.
Nor am I in any way defending SD or what has gone on there. I saw the reality of what the site was like from the beginning: that one had to be extremely careful when commenting, that addressing or questioning SD would likely result in curt or angry replies, that the order of the day was sycophantic obeisance and to do otherwise would put one in jeopardy. I also say that it’s his site and he can ban me, or anyone, if he likes. But he has to face the consequences of that, which is our discussing that reality, stating our opinion that it seems unreasonable, etc. But it is reality, and that is what I’m advocating that people accept (rather than try to sneak in Q comments, now).
I was banned from there a couple of years ago and of course it had nothing to do with Q. I didn’t knowingly violate any rules, either. It never felt like a “refuge” to me; there were too many spikes that I had to swerve around to avoid getting a flat tire.

churchmouse

Thank you, TheseTruths.
I did not know your story. I did not know that you were banned from CTH a couple of years ago.
From your previous comment, I read/understood, ‘SD’s house, SD’s rules’.
From this comment, your position is nuanced and more specific, which is most helpful.

I agree with your comment 110% on what we could and couldn’t say — and how careful we had to be Over There.
Commiserations on being banned for writing something unspecific.
I’ve said this on previous comments here (several weeks ago) that SD took too many (bad) lessons from a blog that CTH still has on its blogrolL. That site seems a bit arbitrary in allowing comments, to put it politeLy.

TheseTruths

(churchmouse, I’m replying to your comment below.)
That’s very interesting about the site on the blogroll. I don’t know what site you’re referring to but understand that you probably don’t want to reveal it. 😎

TheseTruths

OK, it’s your comment above, not below. I didn’t know how this was going to post!

Spab

“““Faith Based Immigration Services” is a code-speak for legalized human smuggling.”
To be objective about this: I believe that many of the religious people involved in these ‘businesses’ see themselves as the legacy of the Underground Railroad. Which is to say that they would tell you that they are ‘on a mission from God.’ They may agree with you that it is not legal but they would perceive it as moral necessity; lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness sort of action. The fact that some line their pockets does not change the moral equation. Moral necessity, not greed or political advantage is their motivation. It is hard to combat that sort of motivation. Perversion of good intentions has wrecked enormous havoc on the culture and our citizens. It is my contention that misguided moral impulse has brought us to our present state. Reason informs our moral behavior more significantly than our civic duty. We cannot do without it.

Pick a disease that responds well to treatment (e.g., something that will curl up and die at the mere whiff of an antibiotic), but will kill if it’s not treatmed. If someone will step in and treat people who show up with it, there’s really no risk to the infectee. (Yeah there will be some risk, but one cannot make an omelet without breaking eggs.) Then the infectee will ultimately be able to vote the desired way, in the desired place.

Right. In 1777, 16-year-old Sybil Ludington rode in the middle of the night to warn militia members that the Redcoats were attacking Danbury and would be advancing. Her message was to have the militia gather at her home under her father’s command. Her ride was about twice as long as Paul Revere’s. By the time she returned, home most of the militia was gathered there.

I was talking with a friend and the subject of influence came up. His view was that influence is a worldly means of power and that believers shouldn’t seek it.
I agreed with the gist of what he was saying, but the more I thought about it I felt that view was inadequate. These are the thoughts I responded with:
~*~
Like power, influence is not inherently a bad thing. It is a good in its own right, and is also very much a gift that God gives.
Like so many other things it is subject to corruption. Sinners gunna sin. People seek power and corruption for their own ends, not to God and serve others.
The problem isn’t with influence per se. In fact, God calls us to be salt and light in this world, which is a powerful form of innate influence. The nature of salt and light is to profoundly influence the surroundings in which is it in.
There is Godly influence, and there is sinful influence. There are many levels of influence in between that reflect common grace.
Another thing to recognize is that influence acts upon something. Something is influenced by the influencer. That could be a specific target – an individual – or a residual side effect, such as a passive on the sidelines influence. The observer effect if you will. The audience or the crowds of fans are influenced too.
The last point is that influence is impossible to avoid. Every person that acts in the world is influencing it. Even walking in the woods the hiker makes small impacts on his environment even if they are barely discernible. So what kinds of impact are we making?
* Don’t seek influence merely for personal or political ends
* Don’t avoid influence out of false piety
* Influence is a Gift of God – part of our nature as human beings as physical being impacting the world and the social order around us
* Influence is part of the Imago Dei – in particular, God’s revelation of himself as a social being of love
* Influence is a good in itself but sin corrupts it
* You cannot avoid influencing others
* The question is whether your influence is Godly or whether it is for wicked selfish ends
* Influence is a gift that should be stewarded as any other.
* We should in fact exercise our influence intentionally and in a Godly way, rather than not
* We should strive to be a positive Godly influence toward reconciling others to Christ, toward the Kingdom of God, and in terms of discipline and encouraging other believers.
* God puts people in our lives during seasons specifically to be a Godly influence
* To not exercise a Godly influence in people’s lives is to miss opportunities given by God to be a blessing to others
* Be prepared to give an account for how you use the gifts of influence: For good, for wickedness, or whether they were neglected, like the man who buried his talent.
* Truly loving others is a powerful form of selfless influence.
Just some thoughts

NYGuy54

Mulvaney: “Is Nancy Pelosi’s Speakership Worth Shutting The Government Down?”
Posted By Ian Schwartz
On Date December 28, 2018
Excerpt –
MULVANEY: “No, they left town and I think the reason they did is because Nancy Pelosi in fairness, does not have the votes for the speakership yet. She can not be seen by her party as being weak on negotiation with Donald Trump so we fully expect that until she is election speaker and has locked that vote up, we don’t expect to hear from the Democrats again. They told us last night that they were not countering our last offer, our last offer.”

Get this shyte! Not ONE scholarship but they spent on $500K on side bennies! What do you wanna bet Gutierrez is involved with this group?
“The caucus of black New York state lawmakers run a charity whose stated mission is to empower “African American and Latino youth through education and leadership initiatives” by “providing opportunity to higher education” — but it hasn’t given a single scholarship to needy youth in years, according to a New York Post investigation.

That’s really bad.
You know, even when they’re handing out scholarships, they’re handing cronies money. They get a kid, tell him which school to go to, and then the full ride scholarship goes to the trust fund and the college admins rake in the money.
I guess that racket wasn’t efficient enough for them.

Donald Rumsfeld finished his daily briefing to George W. Bush by telling him,

“OH NO!” President Bush, visibly shaken, exclaims. “That’s terrible!”
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President Bush looks up and asks, “How many is a brazillion?”

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

Now THIS is complicated business, folks!!
The gold standard can come with its own problems, and they become much, much worse if one insists on bimetallism. On the other hand, I’d much rather have a straight gold standard than what we have today, which is money based solely on people’s faith that it won’t become worthless someday. Our current fiat system is much easier for people to manipulate, and by “people” I mainly mean the Fed, though they were certainly capable of plenty of damage even while we were still on gold.

GA/FL

And doesn’t Soro$ also have a way of manipulating currencies and economies….so much that he’s persona non grata in the UK and Russia.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

He does! I didn’t mean to imply the Fed was the only one who played those games.

GA/FL

…and I think some of them manipulate the market/commodities/precious metals down and sell short too.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

That’s actually one of the potential issues with a gold standard.
Gold bugs claim that gold is of constant value, yet one can point to market charts that show it spiking in the very short term, for example in 1980 the price of gold went up hugely, then the bubble burst and it went back down again.
Now one could convince me, especially back then, that the dollar was becoming worthless, but NOT that it became valuable again. Gold moved, the dollar was relatively steady, inflating at nearly 20% per year but nevertheless far more steady than gold was behaving.
If the gold market can be manipulated, then any gold based currency can be thrashed the same way.

GA/FL

THAT’s where enforcement and painful consequences come in….and the guts to enforce the consequences.

Tonawanda

I have never seen gold bugs claim that gold has a constant value.
I thought they claimed gold was a commodity whose value fluctuated just like any commodity.
But the value of gold as a commodity was less instability than other commodities because of its intrinsic usefulness.
As I understand it, a “dollar” (according to the gold bugs) was simply an unencumbered promise to pay a certain WEIGHT of gold, whatever it may be. So the value necessarily was not constant, but varied according to how much the weight of gold was worth.
Promises also vary in worth depending on circumstances, but what we have now is a sort of delusional belief in the promises of – – who exactly? – – as opposed to the promises of people who say they will in fact give you something commonly recognized as having value, gold.
Yes, Auric Goldfinger can radiate Fort Knox in order to make a lot of gold worthless. But dispersal of risk makes that possibility small as well as probably of slight consequence if it did happen.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I generally hear the more general claim that gold tends to hold its value in the long term…and that is true. (e.g., this coin would have bought a nice suit in 1920, and it would still buy a nice suit today.) Their audience is often invited to think that it’s stable, therefore–and it really isn’t, in the short term. If we had been on the gold standard while dealing with a gyration like in 1980, it would have been catastrophic. So we’d need to either come up with a way to avoid that gyration, or come up with another idea.
As a historical note, one that doesn’t negate your point, the original dollar was a *silver* coin from Europe, the joachimsthaler, or thaler for short. American colonists, denied the use of silver coinage by England, ended up using the Spanish “piece of eight,” the 8 reales coin, of the same size, and called it a dollar. When we created the US dollar, it was based on that coin; we even assayed a bunch of them to decide, in the original Mint Act of April 2, 1792, that a dollar would be 412 grains of 1485/1664ths fine silver (or 371 1/4 grains of pure silver). The gold coinage was defined such that it corresponded with the silver at a 15 : 1 ratio, in other words 371 1/4 grains of pure gold would make a ten dollar “eagle” and a five dollar “half eagle.” Silver was actually the starting point and trying to nail down and fix–by law–the ratio between the value of gold and silver caused numerous headaches for us until 1853.

Tonawanda

Fascinating stuff and great info! TY!

michaelh

It isn’t the material that matters, it’s the subjective value placed upon it.
With currencies, the system in use is less the problem than the manipulation of the system.
…And that’s where Trump enters the picture, making Currency Manipulation a required part of every trade agreement moving forward.

thetinfoilhatsociety

Yes and no. Being on a gold standard means we cannot simultaneously be on an international currency standard, which is good news for us as a sovereign nation and bad news for the globalist bankers (including the Fed) who want to create a transnational international currency standard that benefits them – via price manipulation – and not the nations it is used in. Look at the Euro for instance. It’s a lot harder to manipulate a gold standard, where WE set the price the gold is going to be standardized at, than it is to manipulate 1’s and 0’s on a computer screen.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

True that. If we nail the dollar to gold at (say) $1350 per ounce, they can’t make the dollar move against gold.
But they can make gold itself move.

thetinfoilhatsociety

Right, which makes our currency worth more or less on the INTERNATIONAL market but does NOTHING to change our internal currency. This is the key. Trump is moving us in a direction of being more self sufficient and this is the key to completing that move.

NebraskaFilly

Question from the simple-minded, practical one – as usual, I need to put it in the perspective of how this would directly affect my day-to-day life. Let’s say there is a collapse of our currency. I see these ads warning of this huge collapse coming and talking up owning gold as a safeguard. Some are selling actual coins, others are selling, I believe, gold certificates? For someone like me, sitting out here in bum-you-know-what Egypt, owning only my home and vehicle, no investments beyond a small life insurance policy, on SS with a part-time job, what is the best to turn to? Actual gold or silver coins? In a real emergency, you can’t take a gold certificate to the store to buy food (if the store is even still open, of course). Preppers say to have average, every day goods on hand to barter as well as hard currency. Is simply purchasing rolls of coins a viable route? That could take up a good bit of space, over time.

andrew1979

there are a couple ways to view this: none of us have enough money to go out and get enough gold to make us rich… well maybe a couple of us – but regardless is takes a lot of money to buy a “lot” of gold.
what is true now is that our money is worthless in that it could all disappear in an instant. so having “equivalent” gold/silver instead of a savings account, etc, is good because if money disappears tomorrow you already traded yours for actiual precious metals in hand. your neighbor loses a 500k retirement in 10 minutes, meanwhile you hold 25 pounds of various precious metals (obviously nkt 25 pounds of gold).
now, when you talk about a shtf scenario, no amount of money can be assigned to your metal, but it takes on a superior bartering position potentially even though food water and self defense items are probably equally if not more important. but a local warlord with a large stash of goods may want to deal in gold and silver because he can, and you might be able to buy into his fenced compound 🙂
long story short its complicated but logic says that something real in hand is better than worthless paper.

Aubergine

I say, learn a skill or something you can make that you can barter. If it REALLY hits the fan, knowing how to make any form of alcohol, being able to make medicine from herbs you grow or can collect, having vegetables, eggs, or meat to trade, knowing how to make clothing, repair useful tools, etc. could be really valuable.
I like beer. A couple of years ago, I decided to see if I could brew good beer from straight grain with no electricity, fire only. I bought a bag of barley from the local feed mill. We toasted the grain over a fire, made a mash tun out of a cooler, and brewed what turned out to be VERY good dark beer. That would probably be worth something to somebody.
Money, gold, or any item only has whatever value we assign it. And you sure can’t eat, drink, or wear it.

Sauce

Aubergine…
Did you attempt to malt the barley in your experiment? Just curious, I realize you may have simplified your story to avoid TMI..
I’m fairly familiar with zymological arts 😉

Aubergine

Yes, we did.
We looked for recipes from Colonial times to figure out how they may have done things. It worked. If you are familiar with a beer called Cold Smoke, it turned out a bit like it.

Gudthots

NF, some years ago I went into a coin dealer’s shop. I was curious mostly. As I looked around, various people came in or left, strange vibe. All I can really say for sure is that the gold felt seriously creepy, defiled even.
The real silver currency had a more solid “feel” to it for myself, but I couldn’t imagine collecting much of it.
As Augbergine wrote, my gut instinct says the best route is skills, especially ones oriented around provisioning. That is gardening, hunting, food preservation, fermentation, making clothing. repairing stuff.
For a different angle, years ago, a mentor suggested doing an inventory of my strongest motivations and then praying for an increase in giftings in those areas. For myself, this has led to a deep pursuit of understanding water from a Biblical, scientific and even mystical perspective. Looking at the traditions of blessing water. Pondering what that looks like in the event of problems with potable water supply locally. Thinking about how water heals itself as it runs over, curls around, and seeps under rocks. And so much more.

CM in TN

I would concentrate on the tangibles first, band aids, bullets, food storage, hand tools, etc…Then, after the basics are taken care of, I would keep cash on hand in small denominations. After all that, if I still had disposible income, I would buy “junk silver” first…the old coins that actually contained silver. Then I would get silver coins and gold coins. As far as SHTF time, you don’t want a bunch of gold 1 oz coins that no one can make change for. Stock those away for wealth retention for when things find their new normal.

CM in TN

YMMV

CM in TN

Also, the historical gold to silver ratio is out of wack and has been for a few years. Silver should be higher than what it is and gold used to be cheaper than platinum…

NebraskaFilly

Thank you – that was what I thought vis-a-vis the gold coins. As I have mentioned before, I did a bit of prepping a few years ago: survival food (enough for 1 for 3 months), bottled water, water-proof matches, water filtration unit, Red Cross radio w/ 5 different charging options, portable propane heater, Heritage seeds, etc. I also have a fireplace so I can manage on heat with the propane heater (small one I can use inside) and prepare survival food on the fireplace, as well as my propane grill, and exterior chimnea. I also have the benefit of living in a VERY small town, where people will band together as needed. My neighbor across the street literally has an armory in his basement and I have a gunsmith a few doors down.

A somewhat different (and narrower) definition of money: “Anything used to make a payment that the recipient trusts can be reused to make another payment.” In other words you have to be willing to accept it (as PM says) and you have to have an expectation someone else will be willing to accept it from you (which PM didn’t say).
As he points out many commodities were used as money, but in many of those cases, there were factors that made them less than ideal–a finite shelf life, indivisibility, and so on. A brick of tea can go bad. A cowrie shell can’t be broken in half–well, it can be, but then it’s broken; cowrie shells are only esteemed when intact. Precious metals get around this: they will last indefinitely, especially gold, which won’t tarnish (coloration on gold coins is invariably due to the stuff they mixed the gold with to alloy it), and you can divide gold and silver into smaller and smaller lumps as needed. The main disadvantage of precious metals is being able to tell how pure it is. A lump of silver with gold wash on it could be mistaken for pure gold (though careful measurement will show it’s way too light for its size). There are relatively simple ways to check this, but they wouldn’t be available for the average person in a marketplace two or three thousand years ago.
So when someone, i.e., the Kingdom of Lydia in the Mediterranean (and other cultures elsewhere), came up with the idea of creating standard sized lumps of precious metal and putting the royal emblem on them to certify their purity and weight, coinage was born, and it’s been with us ever since, even when it’s lost its precious metal content. There were of course cases of outright debasement, a government knowingly issuing coins with less precious metal in them than they should have had, but even when money was honest, an intermediate state between then and now was when coinage became subsidiary, which happened to US silver in 1853. Because gold fell relative to silver after the California gold rush, silver coins tended to get melted down, used to buy gold, which was then exchanged at face value for more silver, and the cycle repeated itself.
The solution, in 1853, was to deliberately make silver coins (other than the silver dollar coin itself) contain less than face value of silver, but have them be freely convertible to gold. (This forced the government to limit silver coinage, too, since what was made had to be backed not by the silver in it, but by gold. Before this time, anyone could bring in raw silver and have it turned into coins for a fee, as a public service.) Silver later became much, much cheaper relative to gold, which is why it took 30 years after FDR took us off the gold standard, before the silver in ten dimes cost more than a buck. When we issued paper money backed by gold, the principle was similar: We could print the paper, but only in limited quantity because it had to retain its face value in gold.
Going to a gold standard could involve several different methods; I suspect what will happen is that the central currency issuing authority (whatever it turns out to be) will simply be required to convert dollars to gold (and vice versa) on demand, and should gold flow out too quickly, ratchet issuance back, and should gold come in too quickly, issue more. This is typically referred to as a currency board, and many countries use it…but the US dollar often takes the place of gold!
I don’t see us going to a regime where paper money will go away, and we’ll be using nothing but gold, silver and copper coins…for one thing there isn’t enough gold in the world to replace all the dollars out there at current prices. (Back of the envelope computation: All the gold ever mined would fit in a cube about 60 feet on a side; call it 8000 cubic meters. That in turn is going to be close to 160,000 metric tons (tonnes) of gold. I have found one site that says 190,000 tonnes, so let’s just say it’s 200,000 tonnes for convenience. Anyhow, that’s 200 million kilograms, and a kilogram is roughly 32 troy ounces, so now we’re looking at 6.4 billion troy ounces. At 1300 dollars a troy ounce, that’s only 8.32 trillion dollars that could exist. And that’s all the world’s gold, not just the supply the US controls.

Tonawanda

Great history and explanation.
The problem (IMO) in this discussion is the unwarranted assumption that government is necessary to make money, or desirable.
It would take a while for people to get used to the idea, but Steve money and Tonawanda money ought to be as good or as bad as government money, and it would probably be better money.
Croesus was remarkable in many ways. Now we need the thinking to go beyond Croesus.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I don’t disagree.
There’d probably be a bunch of independent organizations, somewhat like the Underwriter’s Laboratory, who’d randomly audit/assay our coins, to verify that what we said was in the coins, was actually in the coins.
The government’s role would be definitional, e.g., defining that a “dollar” was X amount of gold, and making it fraud (on our parts) to claim an underweight coin was X number of dollars. Of course, I’d be free to define a Quatloo as whatever I wanted it to be, maybe some amount of some weird alloy of gold, silver and platinum, and MAYBE I could gain market acceptance with it–and I’d still be subject to some independent tester testing my coin and loudly announcing that it had a lot of lead and tungsten in it–at which point I go to jail for fraud.

Tonawanda

Again, great explanation! Very helpful to me in understanding.
As with so mush else, it all seems to come back to trust, and making trust verifiable.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

A LOT of safety inspections, etc., now done by government could instead be done by independent agencies. Manufacturers might even pay to be able to brag their stuff was safe.
For example, there’s no reason that USDA food inspections couldn’t be handled privately. But the implication is it would be legal to sell non-inspected food, too, so the culture would have to change and people would have to feel responsible for checking the box for the seal of the food inspector, rather than just figuring–if they even think about it at all–that if it’s on the shelf it’s been inspected because otherwise would be illegal.
Such things I consider “functions the government performs that are useful–but shouldn’t be performed by the government” as opposed to (say) the “function” of preventing us from buying firearms, which is not useful, and also should not be done by the government.

Tonawanda

Interesting you should say that!
A couple friends are MAGA people and pro-Trump, but they are also conventional Republicans.
I ran the idea past them: let government inspect, and let private enterprises inspect food, at the choosing of the producer, BUT the food (or whatever) would be required to display a message saying “not government inspected”.
My friends were horrified at the thought. Such is the power of propaganda. They could not even conceive of the benefits.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

And yet, for most of human history, government did not inspect food.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

…and, even with government inspections, a lot of salmonella and e. coli incidents happen.

Tonawanda

So many folks are under the impression that life ought to be “perfect.”
Spiro Agnew was lambasted for his observation that “life is not fair,” but it is just childish and infantile not to see the wisdom of the statement.
We live in childish times (among other things).

Tonawanda

The question is: are there enough grams of gold to make promissary noted reasonable, it seems.
A “dollar” can be a gram of gold, and other smaller amounts of money could be weights of other metals, if that is what someone decides to do.

GA/FL

In the 40s and 50s movies, those hot blooded gypsy women would bite the gold coins to prove whether they were gold through and through.
Soft lead coins coated in gold were easily detected. Likewise pure gold is softer than some other plated metal fakes.
https://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/8810/is-biting-a-gold-coin-a-working-method-to-verify-its-authenticity

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

True, true enough:
Here’s another true story. When platinum was discovered by Europeans (the Indians present already knew about it) in what is now Colombia, it was a nuisance. It was mixed in with the gold they were interested in and was of no value; it had to be painstakingly separated out, grain by grain, in the pannings (it pans even better than gold does, being heavier). It then turned out that although they couldn’t melt platinum with the technology of the day, it would dissolve in a gold melt, much like salt will dissolve in water without having to melt the salt. So corrupt workers at the mint there could buy platinum from miners, swap it for gold, pocket the gold and dump the platinum into the melt. The resulting coin would pass both acid and weight tests.
Spain had to actually try to ban the private possession of platinum, and required any from the mines to be sold to the government directly, just to keep it out of the hands of people who’d use it to destroy the value of the gold coinage. Meanwhile trying to hush up the fact that a lot of their coins were debased already, but not by their intent.
Later on, the Spanish government did deliberately use the platinum to debase its own coinage, when money became tight. It was a bit more expensive than silver at the time, but far, far cheaper than gold.

GA/FL

Those are pretty solid statements by West.

NebraskaFilly

What do you mean, “back on?” He never got off as far as I know.

para59r

Okay 2024 didn’t come out right (said oh nooo in italics from me. ) and i guess the rest got cut from too many tweets copied.
Here’s the rest.
One of my favorite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can’t tell me what to do because I’m black
and
From now on I’m performing with my mutherfucking hat on 🐉🐉🐉
End.
Hopefully he’ll just wave at the train as it goes by. Sucks for everyone when he falls off.

Emeraldstar

“From now on I’m performing with my mutherfucking hat on”
FANTASTIC!
I thank Wolf, our host, for highlighting this point: NO FEAR! Fear is a killer …
Now is the time to present, to represent. To show; to stand UP!
Are you a musical performer? I could tell you some stories! (Only white guy in a funk / rhythm & blues band [keyboards – typical!], and we were THIS CLOSE to opening up for New Kids on the Block [Maurice Starr]) I got out of it, because too many people were in-fighting (when solidarity with each other was the path to great PAYDAYS). Tough biz! But it was fun as hell!
“people can’t tell me what to do”
This works for everyone, but in today’s climate, you’ve got (wait for it) … PRIVILEGE! Ha! Use it, brother! Put it in their FACE!
Glad you’re here … and Happy New Year!!!

GA/FL

Mr. Ye West may wake up with a completely different mindset tomorrow, Jan 2.
I wouldn’t bank on his fealty or constancy.

Love this! How apropos!!! Saving and sharing this one.

Marica

What a complete DICK! Seriously If “a president shapes the character of a nation”–Let’s start with Bill Clinton…
No Name replacement in Senate! I am steamed right now!

GA/FL

Romney will always be a choker and a loser.
In his business life, he was a vulture and used taxpayer’s money to bail out the pension funds of the companies he bled dry and to bail out the Salt Lake City olympics and other projects in which he enriched himself at taxpayer expense.
And now Romney comes to DC to try to hurt Donald Trump, stop Trump plans and policies, and of course, to suck more $$$ from the public’s and donors purses.

Marica

Sure hope his name is in one of those sealed indictments…

phoenixRising

he’s definitely a cabal puppet…

Marica

What Pompous Ass would write an oped on New Year’s Day about the current President–from his own party!!!!! Something fishy going on…

Marica

SD and I are in COMPLETE AGREEMENT!!

Marica

I believe your hubby and I would get along –just like you and me!!! Gonna be a Fantastic year Daughn!! Glad we are here together!!

Sounds like “cold day in hell” before he does that!

Nit, in number 84 of the Praying Medic thread, he claims the US has 8.4 metric tons of gold in its reserves (by the way, that’s less than half a cubic meter–gold is heavy stuff).
No. He misread the chart he posted. The US has 8,400 metric tons of gold, which is about 435 cubic meters, or smaller than a cube 8 meters on a side.

You are one of the few of us that can still pose a CTH (unless that changed very recently).
Has your cynical side consider posting this at CTH?
I cannot speak for all of us, but I know I would!

rf121

I have been playing nice. I was banned twice last year so I am probably on three strikes and you are out.
The mood has changed over there for sure so I just try and be a polite guest although a few commenters have set me off.

Nor'easter

I’m hoping that someone-ANYONE-posts it “over there”!

TheseTruths

SD is quoting Praying Medic, who quotes Q? What’s up with that?

rf121

My guess is SD does not want Q stuff on his site as it lacks “credibility”. But like me I think he hopes at least some of what he says will happen is true. If not, it don’t look good going forward.
Some of his recent articles he talks about the lack of action and the fact there is really no one to fix things. Going to take something very out of the ordinary to make the changes.

Thanks ZooN TX.
That was enchanting. I love fireworks, especially when I don’t have to run from one gone astray. 🙂

Romney IS as lame as a senator elect as he was a candidate! I AM IN NO WAY CONCERNED that his stupid article will do anything but make him look even more of a pompous ass than he is…I have ZERO concerns that Mittens can touch or VSG– Just mad that I actually voted for him-and worked phone lines and walked door to door–ICK!
He’s Nothing but a Giant Douche–We just need less Douches and more Patriots!!!

TheseTruths

Excellent post! President Trump is an extraordinary leader.

Marica

And it pisses off Mittens and No Name (wherever he is–Hell Gitmo?) and All the Past POTUSes…Plus–They are SHAKING IN THEIR BOOTS that PDJT is going to expose them–and he will!!!!!
It might not be as soon as we like–But It WILL happen! EXPOSE THEM ALL!

Marica

What a Beautiful POST daughn!! favorite –Wins the thread!
“No wonder President Trump wants a Space Force. He’s pretty much worked out the geopolitics on Earth….
….. in two years.
…… facing enormous opposition from our own media and bureaucrats.
Trump keeps on winning.”
Honestly! 6 years from now– Other Planets gonna beg for him to straighten their shit out!!!

michaelh

Hey now – of course he needs a SPACE FORCE. Don’t you think Trump was serious when he said he was going to stop the ILLEGAL ALIENS?!

shebythesea

Yes, yes, yes!

Plain Jane

DnW, this is so good, I copied it into an email to give my people a boost. Thanks.

Marica

Ya’ll!!! I just Actually posted OT–course– “went to moderation’.. SD just kicked some ASS regarding the Romney Oped–
It’s ON!!!

Marica

It actually posted!! What?

para59r

Saw that, (your posts). Pretty much Romney isn’t getting any love anywhere on conservative blogs. Fully expects the Trump curse to catch up with him soon. Some one elsewhere posted about black mail and photos of teen girls. Hasn’t got a clue if that’s credible, but Romney’s timing can’t be worse. The President is picking up steam with his followers not loosing it. Romney is not smart here and just crawled way out on a limb.
Meanwhile what was with that motzilla guy posting a four month old attack about Q completely out of context, straight out of the blue, with no bait laid for it. Is it just QDS (think TDS)? or is he worried something is coming down the pike?

Marica

Para!! You are so adorable!! QDS!!! YEP! And truly there is something Definitely coming down the pike!!!!

Marica

I 100% agree that “something else going on…” whether it’s shiny red ball, live grenade..or what?

As believed by most. Nothing but fraud won the elections around CA in November. Ballit stuffing and illegal votes til they got the results they wanted.
“DREAMers discuss going ballot-harvesting in California to flip the House blue
By Monica Showalter
It was one of those heartstring-tugging, tear-jerking, carefully curated narratives about DREAMers we’re supposed to read and then respond to with sympathy.
But a story that ran in the Los Angeles Times yesterday accidentally did more to raise questions about the issue of ballot-harvesting in California than any raving right-wing warning tome could ever do.
The Times describes how California’s famed ballot-harvestors, who flipped places such as Orange County blue, by “helping” fill out, turn in, and continuing to turn in ballots from otherwise uncommitted voters until they got the result they wanted, aren’t actually U.S. citizens. Here’s the DREAMers “helping” the voters vote the way they wanted, in action:
In California, Dreamers like Cruz phoned voters, walked precincts and protested outside Republican lawmakers’ offices, reaching people who had not been called or visited by either party. Their efforts helped boost turnout among Latinos in this year’s midterm election — 29 million nationwide were eligible to vote, according to the Pew Research Center — which is projected to surpass levels higher than in past presidential election years, political analysts said.
An analysis of data from eight states by the Latino Policy and Politics Initiative at UCLA found the Latino vote grew by an estimated 96% from 2014 to 2018, compared with 37% among non-Latinos. The surge, researchers said, helped move 20 House districts held by Republicans to Democratic control in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, New Jersey and New York.
And here’s how they actually did it:
Half an hour later, she was helping Silva look up candidates as he filled out his ballot by the light of her phone. “I’m glad you guys came,” he said. “I was going to leave it in my drawer.”
The story doesn’t say what the DREAMer/ballot-harvester would do if the voter decided to vote some other way from the way she wanted the indifferent man to fill it out. Naturally, the incurious reporter also omits the obvious question: Did the foreigner tell the indifferent man how to fill out the ballot? Let’s just say the reporter showed a strong interest, based on the rest of her reportage, to protect the foreigner from any accusation of illegal voting.
But only a fool would think she didn’t tell the indifferent man who to vote for, effectively voting by proxy.
Which of course pretty well amounts to foreign nationals voting, without any fear of prosecution. That changes the nature of the election, and in fact, the U.S. republic itself. Voting up until now has been a practice reserved for citizens. Today, non-citizens vote, by getting hold of indifferent Americans, and filling in the ballots by proxy, no fingerprints visible. And who knows what kind of coercion may be employed by some of them. And if DREAMers can do it to promote their own political agenda, what’s to stop other foreigners – with far more malign agendas, from doing it? Shall a team of Russian or Chinese agents, or Arab terrorists, or Mexican cartels, be allowed in next to help harvest the ballots? (You know the Chinese are thinking about it). They’re as foreign as DREAMers, and it would be perfectly legal under the current California law. Ballot-harvesting, which is illegal in most states, makes this all possible. And what that means is that the House has been flipped in no small part by foreigners, who not only cast one ballot, they may have cast dozens and dozens of ballots, all from the advantages of ballot-harvesting.
It sounds like it’s time for a Constitutional Amendment to end this fiasco should the GOP retake the House in 2020, or we can forget about the integrity of the ballot entirely. Spread the news of this de facto foreign voting far and wide.”
