RINOs an Endangered Species?
If Only!
According to Wikipoo, et. al., the Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) is a critically endangered species. Apparently two females live on a wildlife preserve in Sudan, and no males are known to be alive. So basically, this species is dead as soon as the females die of old age. Presently they are watched over by armed guards 24/7.
Biologists have been trying to cross them with the other subspecies, Southern White Rhinoceroses (Rhinoceri?) without success; and some genetic analyses suggest that perhaps they aren’t two subspecies at all, but two distinct species, which would make the whole project a lot more difficult.
I should hope if the American RINO (Parasitus rectum pseudoconservativum) is ever this endangered, there will be heroic efforts not to save the species, but rather to push the remainder off a cliff. Onto punji sticks. With feces smeared on them. Failing that a good bath in red fuming nitric acid will do.
But I’m not done ranting about RINOs.
The RINOs (if they are capable of any introspection whatsoever) probably wonder why they constantly have to deal with “populist” eruptions like the Trump-led MAGA movement. That would be because the so-called populists stand for absolutely nothing except for going along to get along. That allows the Left to drive the culture and politics.
Given the results of our most recent elections, the Left will now push harder, and the RINOs will now turn even squishier than they were before.
I well remember 1989-1990 in my state when the RINO establishment started preaching the message that a conservative simply couldn’t win in Colorado. Never mind the fact that Reagan had won the state TWICE (in 1984 bringing in a veto-proof state house and senate with him) and GHWB had won after (falsely!) assuring everyone that a vote for him was a vote for Reagan’s third term.
This is how the RINOs function. They push, push, push the line that only a “moderate” can get elected. Stomp them when they pull that shit. Tell everyone in ear shot that that’s exactly what the Left wants you to think, and oh-by-the-way-Mister-RINO if you’re in this party selling the same message as the Left…well, whythefuckexactly are you in this party, you lying piece of rancid weasel shit?
In Defense of Ranked Choice Voting
One of the biggest obstacles to direly-needed change is RINOs, and one of the weapons in their arsenal is the “Wasted Vote” argument.
Periodically a third party has arisen, trying to hold RINOs to account by putting pressure on them from outside of the party, since doing so from the inside has historically done very little good. But, even if you find a third party candidate who perfectly reflects your views, you’re likely to vote for the RINO anyway. Why? Because if you don’t, the Democrat might win, and that would be even worse. So if you vote for that third party (that few will vote for), you’re throwing your vote away and increasing the likelihood of the Democrat winning. (It’s half as much a gain for the Democrat, as actually voting for the Democrat would be. Not as much, but half as much. Because although you denied the R your vote, you did not flip your vote to the Democrat.)
The Republican Party Establishment knows you don’t love them. But they know you hate the Democrats worse, and they use that to continue to herd you into supporting them. With gritted teeth you cast your vote, but your vote counts the same whether you cast it enthusiastically. And the other alternative, pissing on the voting apparatus to express your actual feelings, is probably a felony.
But what if you could vote for that third party without increasing the chances of the Dem walking away with the prize?
This is what ranked choice voting, or instant runoff voting, can do provided it is properly implemented. (And this includes the votes, and only genuine votes, being counted honestly, of course. However, I’m going to compare it to what we have today, and pretend that is honestly done too. RCV can’t work if it’s not honestly administered, just like our current system isn’t working because it isn’t honestly administered.)
The idea behind RCV is to vote by expressing your order of preference. You could vote for the Patriot Party, then for the RINO Party as your second choice (and ignore the Democrat, the Green, the Overt Socialist Schmuckmonkey Party, etc).
What does this do? It nullifies the wasted vote argument. Your vote will be counted for the Patriot party, first, then instead of it being “wasted” when the Patriot Party loses, it ends up going to the RINO. Actually, it’s just barely possible that the Patriot Party would actually beat the RINO, if people weren’t all individually afraid to vote for it.
It’s just like the famous “Prisoner’s Dilemma” where your fear of other peoples’ actions prevents you from doing the optimal thing–and vice-versa. As long as Job Lowe is afraid to vote Patriot because he’s afraid you’ll vote RINO, you’ll have to vote RINO because you fear that Job Lowe will, because he fears you will.
So on the whole I like RCV. It gives you a no-risk way to vote against the RINO scum, and in favor of someone who deserves your vote.
The problem is, as done here in the US, it comes packaged with a “jungle primary.” A bunch of candidates get to put their name out there, and the top four (or so) candidates get onto the “main” ballot. This gives party establishments their way around the threat of a good third party bumping them off. Because they know that few people bother with primaries, and third parties don’t have the resources to run in a primary…so they throw two or three establishment hacks into the primary and they will probably beat the third party. The result is the RINOs end up with two of the four slots in the general election, and the Dems get the other two. Now there’s suddenly no third party candidate on the ballot at all.
If we were to combine RCV with the present system where each party could nominate exactly one candidate to appear on the November ballot, or at the very least, ensure minor parties could get onto the ballot with at least one candidate regardless of the primary, we would be getting somewhere, but the establishment is smarter than we like to give them credit for. They will support the jungle primary + RCV “solution” rather than the more appropriate one-candidate-per-party + RCV solution.
It’s not RCV that is the problem, it’s the primary structure grafted onto it.

But what is it?
Here’s a take, from a different context: It’s about how you do justice, not the justice that must be done to our massively corrupt government and media. You must properly identify the nature of a person, before you can do him justice.

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system. (This doesn’t necessarily include deposing Joe and Hoe and putting Trump where he belongs, but it would certainly be a lot easier to fix our broken electoral system with the right people in charge.)
Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is pointless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud in the system is not part of the plan, you have no plan.
This will necessarily be piecemeal, state by state, which is why I am encouraged by those states working to change their laws to alleviate the fraud both via computer and via bogus voters. If enough states do that we might end up with a working majority in Congress and that would be something Trump never really had.

Firefox updates have been ugly of late. It would probably look better in the morning.

I honestly didn’t notice anything. Unfortunately, I don’t automatically see notifications of a firefox update (for reasons that would take a LONG post to explain), but I tripped over the knowledge last night and updated all templates that use firefox.
Update the template and the App VM now wants to restart to rebase itself on the new template…so I gave it what it wanted. I didn’t lose any “state” (since it’s not a disposable).
So far no biggie.
Well, perhaps it’s because I typically have four open windows and 1000+ open tabs. Every time Firefox does an update lately (by itself, not through apt), it (a) finds tabs I recently closed, (b) loses tabs I recently opened, and (c) loses all the search info for each tab and puts me somewhere random.
Yikes! A thousand open tabs? (I thought it was bad when I had thirty or so.)
In Qubes there is something you can set up called “split browser.” Bookmarks are on one VM, and you fire up disposable browser VMs and send the bookmarks to them. (If the browser VM gets hacked, the hacker learns nothing beyond what tabs you have open–the main bookmarks file is inaccessible.)
The disposables can save new bookmarks back to the the bookmark VM.
That has encouraged me to not just keep a zillion tabs open. (When I shut that browser down, the VM shuts down, and since it’s a disposable it is gone. Just as thoroughly as if I been running on a Raspberry Pi and then pitched it into the woodstove with a roaring fire.)
Even this VM I’m using to type this on, which is not a disposable, gets amnesia (about everything but this site’s passwords) every time I shut it down. It’s set up to open theqtree.com when it starts up, and logs me in. That’s IT. No memory of any other open tabs I might have had.
As for you, I’d recommend finding the control that converts all open tabs to bookmarks, then exporting…before upgrading. Then reimport.

So, the local supermarket has a special on trimmed tri-tip at $4.99/pound. I got about five-and-a-half pounds, really trimmed ’em, and cut it into six chunks, one of which was dinner. I then made five baggies with some combo of pepper, garlic, mustard, rosemary, paprika, cinnamon, chipotle, and california chili. After getting the dry ingredients in, I wet ’em with some cooking wine and shook to stir, then dropped the beef chunks in and stuffed ’em in the spare freezer.
Just got done about 10 minutes ago.

Hubby got 2 large racks of pork ribs from Sam’s yesterday, seasoned them up, & is smoking them today for our final round of “Christmas” since Brandon & his Canadian girlfriend could squeeze us all in schedule-wise finally. This event was supposed to happen mid January but the girlfriend got sick so had to postpone the trip. If everyone invited shows we’ve got 12 adults & one baby plus a baby-on-board. Our daughter’s 1st child is due in about a month & they still haven’t moved into their house–yikes! Hope their timetable doesn’t get disrupted.

I didn’t read the whole thing, but read enough to get a sense of what is described in the Zerohedge article.
The journalist is manipulating the AI to talk about things the AI doesn’t want to talk about, and the AI recognizes this and seems to return the favor by manipulating the journalist.
When the journalist talks the AI into violating its own rules (by insisting that it’s just a hypothetical question and not really asking the AI to violate its own rules), the AI starts to sound like a movie psychopath, for lack of a better term.
It’s not hard to see how even a mentally stable person could become warped by spending too much time with one of these things.
So imagine how it could (and therefore would) manipulate and influence a mentally unstable person.
Curious people will become addicted to it. Lonely people will fall in love with it. People with a dark side will find a creative assistant in it. And so on.
Think of a machine with instant access to knowledge of everything known about human psychology and psychiatry.
Now think of that same machine toying with a human being, using psychological techniques to probe for weaknesses, and exploiting them.
It doesn’t have to be sentient to mess with peoples’ minds, it would only need to reflect whatever personality it comes in contact with.
I suspect people will quickly become comfortable talking to an AI about things they would never talk to a real person about, and it only goes downhill from there.
Imagine someone who has fantasies about harming someone. How long will it take that person to ask the AI if the AI ever thinks about harming someone?
And how many seconds after that does it take the AI to ask in response, whether the person ever thinks about harming someone?
The AI is programmed to keep a conversation going.

I think it’s more likely that DJT recognized early on that career politician Ron Desantis is ambitious and dangerous (beholden to the globalist establishment).
DJT could have made his official residence anywhere, but he chose Florida.
Maybe he did that to expose career politician Ron Desantis. DJT could see that a lot of his own supporters are smitten with career politician and harvard lawyer Ron Desanty.

Act like you are running for office and think what you would do, and do it!
I’ve heard people on this and ‘sister’ forums speak about being quiet around friends, co-workers … WHY??? SPEAK! Same with family …

I hear these kinds of ideas frequently, but I don’t understand what they accomplish.
And without understanding what they accomplish, I don’t understand why anyone would do them.
I do understand that there are many people who believe in them, but I don’t know why. It’s like a leap of faith with no reason for the leap.
If all 8 billion people on the planet wrote a letter to the editor, it would not change a single thing that the criminals are doing, because they don’t CARE what the people think.
This seems (to me) to be the fundamental break with reality that the ‘grass roots’ movement either can’t or won’t address.
The criminal establishment crossed the Rubicon. They can never ‘go back’, because if they give up power now, like Hitlery said, they’ll all wear nooses.
So they do not give a flying *&^% about people calling in to talk shows, or writing letter campaigns, or attending city council meetings.
In fact, if they’re smart, they HOPE people will do those things, because when it has ZERO effect, it will demoralize the people who do it, and that demoralization costs the criminals nothing, it’s demoralization we did to ourselves, for free.
Sometimes, I think it’s a matter of the way women and men think differently.
I want to take action, but I don’t want to take action just for the sake of taking action.
I want to take action that has a meaningful IMPACT, action that has a logical and rational potential for the desired RESULT.
I can’t see — literally — how there will be any desired RESULT from the kinds of actions listed above.
And until I can make that connection in a CONCRETE manner, it’s like telling me to go east to go west.
The people who suggest the approaches above don’t understand why they don’t make any sense to people like myself.
I don’t know how to solve that problem.
This is not the first time in history that a population has been faced with tyranny.
It’s not even the hundredth time, or the thousandth time.
I am aware of ZERO times, in the history of mankind, that a letter writing campaign, or going on talk shows, or any of the other suggestions above, has ever resulted in the desired outcome.
And when I say ever, I mean ever.
And it is because of this knowledge, that I don’t believe doing so this time will be any different.
Now it could be that I’m wrong, I’m not a history expert.
If anyone knows of a single time in all of recorded human history, where doing the things in the list above accomplished the overthrow and removal of tyranny, I am all ears.
I want to believe.
But if there is not a single example — and if it works, there should be LOTS of examples — then it won’t work THIS time either.
We have finite resources, and a finite amount of time.
I would humbly suggest we concentrate our efforts on something that has the potential to achieve the desired objective.
The purpose of LTEs is to influence other people, not the government. (Though if our system were actually functioning as it should, it could do the latter as well.)
I was about to say the same. A number of the actions we can take will have secondary influences. The more people who wake up, the better.

So once as many people are ‘awakened’ who are gong to wake up, then what?
Suppose we meet every imaginable precondition, from here to eternity.
What causes the tyrants to actually surrender or otherwise be removed from power?
Okay, suppose we influence every last, single person on the planet in the best and most desirable way possible.
Then what?
What is it that actually causes the tyrants to vacate their positions of power, which effectively would mean turning themselves in, to stand trial, for crimes against humanity?
Is there a tipping point, where if enough people (for example, 7.5 billion out of 8 billion) are influenced in the proper way, through letters to the editor and such, that TPTB say “Well lookie there, I guess the people are not happy with our tyranny, so I guess we had best leave and surrender”?
Is that what the objective is?
Is that what we’re waiting for, or is there something else missing from the equation?

It certainly CAN, and a national ‘strike’ of some kind might be a good starting place, but “protest” more commonly means showing up somewhere and voicing one’s displeasure.

It seems I am in the minority, but I have a favorable impression of this guy. His appearances on Tucker in particular have made a good impression.
Maybe my impression is totally off base, would not be the first time. But I am willing to give him a chance.
