A lot of the test questions have a commonsense component, and an author-focused component, so you have to read them carefully against the text.

Was Tuesday wrong?
I’m near-sighted, and need a new prescription for my glasses and contacts. If I have them on, I’m too close to the monitor, and it gives me a headache. So I don’t wear them when I’m at the computer.
As a result, I can’t read my calendar very well, hanging on the wall about 5 feet away, unless I have a reason to get close enough for all the blurry to come into focus 😁
Lol, no, Tuesday was right. But you said “yesterday.” Which was Wednesday, right? Or am I looking at the wrong line on my calendar?
I hadn’t been to bed yet, so when I posted, to me it was still Wednesday, so from that perspective, Tuesday was ‘yesterday’.
So tonight, when it’s 3am and I’m still awake, to me it will still be Thursday, even though it’s technically Friday, as of 12:00am.
I won’t think of it as Friday until after I go to sleep and wake up again 😁

I have the worst time with glasses. I had more than perfect vision until my first computer-heavy job in my mid-40s, which ruined my eyes for up close work. So I have prescription reading glasses. But my optometrist can never get them right, and they cost a fortune. I order the prescription online at Zenni, cheap as dirt, and they work great! Insurance covers a new pair from the optometrist every so often, but he’s never been able to figure out why his lab can never get them right.
The up close I can do.
But from the distance of a TV, or for driving, glasses work fine.
I went through the whole rigmarole, eye doctor told me to measure the distance from the bridge of my nose to the computer screen, etc.
Supposed to be bifocals that don’t look like bifocals (no visible line in the lens), if I remember right. It was a while ago.
I didn’t have time to pick out frames in the shop next door to the optometrist right after the appointment, so the prescription has been sitting on my counter for a while.

The way to order from Zenni is to use your prescription, but take a pair of your old glasses that fit the way you like, and use the measurements from them for picking out a frame. The ear piece length, and the width of the bridge are a big deal to me. You an even upload a photo of yourself and “try on” frames to see how they look.
I can NOT wear the no-line bifocals! I tried them once. I put them on for a five minute try-on and I was nauseated for the whole rest of the day. They wanted me to try to “get used to them.” What, and puke all day? No thanks!
I hadn’t thought of that, maybe having the line there, even subconsciously, helps the eye in a similar way as a horizon line (attitude indicator) helps a pilot.
Without the line as a reference point, the focal point of your vision may be searching, sort of dipping below the invisible bifocal line and then above it, requiring a refocus every time, which could be disorienting, if someone is sensitive to that sort of thing.
Or it may be that without a hard bifocal ‘line’, the lens needs to blend the far-sighted prescription and the short-sighted prescription where the ‘line’ would be, and the blended section, even if it’s very thin/narrow, may be disorienting.
Or it could be an entirely different kind of thing, altogether…
I guess I’ll find out the hard way, like u$ual 😁

I adapt pretty easily to new glasses from my optometrist, but they’re expensive. The people are all very good. Trying a pair from somewhere else, however, immediately cured me of that mistake. Waste of money!

I am thankful that my cooking was all done by Sunday & I’m Mostly over much of the fatigue & soreness of our early family gathering, whew.
Hubby went to The Cottage straight from work yesterday to finish up winterizing the place. I’d left it at 60 degrees at his request so it wouldn’t be too uncomfortable whenever he finally got back there. He brought a heavy sleeping bag to be able to sleep comfortably but then a Winter Storm kicked up with snow & ice bouncing off the windows so much he had to put ear plugs in. He’s headed to hunting camp today once his winterizing is done, about an hour SE from the Cottage, where he’ll likely hunker down. Middle son, Brandon, & his friend Paul, will be joining Hubby later for an extended hunting weekend. Paul’s brother Silas was with Brandon at “the Luzerne Hilton” (the name of the second hunting cabin when Dad & his hunting buddy Clyde acquired it from the former owners) a couple years back when they almost blew the place up with a propane leak & the wood stove. God was merciful to preserve our crazy son & his friend & for this we Remain Thankful!
Oldest son was able to “harvest” 2 deer on his co-worker/friend’s downstate property on Monday (not Nearly as fun as the rare Up North successful hunt) so he’s not heading North this weekend. He passed the legs of these deer to me so that I can work on getting the “five pounds” of venison off them strategically 😉 😉
Since we all gathered to celebrate on Sunday today should be pretty low key. Josiah’s at his wife’s place this week; oldest son & family w/ his MIL to celebrate with his wife’s siblings & families; middle son is working at the fire station today (which is why we celebrated Sunday); daughter & her family May stop by later, maybe to watch the Lions game (Go Detroit Lions! 💙 ) & have Thanksgiving leftovers & snacks. My dad joined us Sunday & is going to my brother’s “new” lake house for a few days so he’ll get more family time & fellowship with that extended clan thankfully.
Much to be thankful for. It’s bittersweet being the first Thanksgiving since my Mom died in May. Hubby had her picture pop up on Facebook the other day, the one year anniversary from last Thanksgiving. She was still herself then but in clear decline. It’s an adjustment & a subtle weight that lingers in the soul. I would guess it’s also a lingering sorrow for my dad but he doesn’t mention it much & appears quite resilient over all. God is good…
I’m Very Thankful to have President Trump overtly at the helm of this ship of state. God was so good to spare his life back in July & to sustain him through all the many challenges. He has been a leader for the ages. May God continue to guide, direct, protect, invigorate, & sustain POTUS in his many endeavors. May His will be done!

My spatchcocked turkey cooked quicker & to a higher temp than was necessary but was not dried out & quite good–whew! The skin crisped up nicely & even with all those drippings there was insufficient gravy to carry us through all the leftovers LOL I’ll probably always do some form of spatchcocking now as it’s practically foolproof!
this year it’s just hubby and me…so a pared down celebration. I’m making a turkey breast, mashed taters and gravy stuffing, veggies and rolls. Made the pumpkin pie yesterday along with 2 types of cookies I will freeze for Christmas.
we’re having it for lunch…then when we wake up and can move again, we’ll put the chains on the tractor…lol

Maybe we’ll have leftovers again later after Hubby comes home, he left Up North due to heavy snow conditions, fears of being stuck; also if he got stranded up there & missed any work he Might not have gotten paid for Today & Tomorrow since he has no time off left for the year. Yes cutting the backbone out & flattening the remainder of the body helps it cook much quicker & makes the skin much more palatable! Yum!!! I cook the backbone, giblets, & neck (this turkey didn’t come with the neck for some reason) & use the meats chopped up in my dressing & the broth for the dressing & gravy & any left gets a head start on cooking the carcass for turkey soup!

Yeah, he’s actually on his way home. It took more than 2 hours to reach the gas station near hunting camp because of horrible road conditions, like 2 1/2 times the usual travel time between Dad’s Up North places. He barely made it into hunting camp with snow chains on & with more snow predicted later today he decided to cut his losses & come home. He was driving my car with a lower profile & was very concerned about getting stuck. He called & said he’d gotten his balls handed to him–yikes! Hope he gets home in time to see the Lions win–we hope! I’d suggested that he take a snow shovel & he really put that to use!

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I just flipped on local TV to see if “America’s Thanksgiving Parade”, out of Detroit, is on yet. The news on “Good Day Detroit” said the 2 national guardsmen were still in critical condition. I just got the best Thanksgiving gift ever, I think! This is so cool to me, I have to share.
I found this article this morning about the REAL first Thanksgiving in America. It was in Virginia, two years before the Pilgrim one. It was this one:
“History rides the currents of Virginia’s James River. America’s oldest settlements and cities, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Richmond, were fed by her waters and prospered on her banks. Tucked away between these colonial American cities is the stately red brick Georgian manor house of Berkeley Plantation, the family home of Founding Father Benjamin Harrison and birthplace of President William Henry Harrison. During the Civil War, the military bugle call Taps was composed at Berkeley Plantation and first played for the Union troops quartered there.
But Berkeley Plantation’s history goes back much further. It was also the site — in 1619 — of America’s first Thanksgiving, nearly two years before the Pilgrims in New England held their more famous and celebrated feast. What would become Berkeley Plantation was a tract of land, given by England’s King James I to a group of settlers led by Captain John Woodlief. Their sponsor, the Berkeley Company, directed the settlers to offer a holy “day of Thanksgiving to the Almighty God” to mark their arrival in the new world. The name “Woodlief” was familiar, so I looked at my tree. I had Sarah Woodlief, who married Richard Pace III, whose ancestor I knew came to Jamestown about 1613. So I thought, hmmm. Well, turns out, Sarah was the above John Woodlief’s great-granddaughter, and so he’s my direct ancestor.
So that means, my 11th gg-father led the first Thanksgiving! Isn’t that cool?

I have restarted my family searches. My dad’s side in America is linked back to Rhode Island. We are direct links to a royal governor of that colony.
My Aunt did a search when I was little and found Alexander Hamilton was an ancestor.

I don’t follow the math, so I don’t know if Brave A.I. is right, it just seems like there ought to be a lot more than 2,200 mice in 19 months, if you start with 8, and they double every 55 days.
But I can figure it out the hard way. Close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades, anyway.
Which, ironically, doesn’t take much more space than Brave’s method.
Start with 8 mice.
55 days later: 16 mice
55 days later: 32 mice
55 days later: 64 mice
55 days later: 128 mice
55 days later: 256 mice
55 days later: 512 mice
55 days later: 1,024 mice
55 days later: 2,048 mice
That’s eight ’55’ day periods = 440 days = 14.67 months
55 days later: 4,096 mice
Which is nine ’55’ day periods = 495 days = 16.5 months
55 days later: 8,192 mice
Which is ten ’55’ day periods = 550 days = 18.33 months
So by 19 months, we should be a lot closer to 11,556 mice (i.e., Brave’s conclusion) than 2,200…
55 days later would be 16,384 mice.
But we only need 0.67 more months (19 months – 18.33 months = 0.67 months) to get to 19 months.
0.67 x 8,192 mice (the number being doubled in the next 55 day period) = 5,489
5,489 + 8,192 = 13,681
That’s just about 2,200 mice too many.
13,681 (the number I came up with) – 11,556 (the number Brave came up with) = 2,125
So I’m off somewhere, but still a lot closer to Brave’s number than Copernicus’ number.
Maybe I should have doubled 8,192 = 16,384 mice x 0.67 = 10,977
That’s closer to 11,556.
Yes, it appears that this statement was an oversimplification of the reality that the population growth departed downward from a strict doubling in a set time, and that this departure increased with time.
Also, to me it is not clear that the population eventually returned to zero on its own. Indeed, I cannot imagine that it would. IMO, it should be impossible for a “mouse utopia” with food and water to return to zero, unless the lab mice are – in essence – genetically defective relative to wild mice – and I don’t believe that lab mice are that defective, although they may be. What it should do is reach a steady state, governed by dysfunctions due to crowding, which is in fact non-utopian, but not completely fatal.
Mice live in normal human houses and garages, which are terrible, dysfunctional environments, but at very low levels, which deal with the very low levels of food.
The society will return to “Mouse Somalia” – not Antarctica.
The entire experiment is defective. THAT is what’s actually wrong here.

Exactly! If not for my wife, *I* personally would love to conduct the experiment and publish the pre-print, EVEN if it resulted in some kind of goofy bullshit attack by corrupt science organizations. Nowadays, the truth can get out, no matter what. Have been busy with life making big dinner for two three cats and a dog. My cats are 16 and 17 the two 16 year old had some health problems the past two weeks. One is back to normal the other one still needs lots of attention.

My oldest cat lived to be about 25. I loved him so much. I called him the “$10,000 cat” because of all the crazy medical stuff he had. But he was healthy and beautiful all the way to the end. He never got skinny like so many do. One day, he came out of his litter box and just quit. Just died instantly. I think he knew I couldn’t stand it if he got sick and I had to do it.
