Let’s look at the reasons a company “goes public” and is listed on the stock exchanges.
Very often, they are not making money. In that case, “going public” allows them to continue doing the things that are not making money.
In a best case scenario, they are making money but are poised to expand rapidly — beyond the ability of its founders to raise money. A classic example is railroads, or the Bell system of telephony. The problem is that the business model must have the ability to scale.
There are many, many examples of companies that just expand, reinvesting their profits or taking out loans. In-N-Out Burger, Swagelok, SpaceX (and its subsidiary StarLink), Little Caesars, SC Johnson (maker of Pledge furniture cleaner and Raid insecticide), and many other companies are neither on Wall Street, nor trade on a stock exchange, nor are included in stock indices.
I was speaking to one point of many that you raise — that over regulation promotes centralization and stagnation, which leads to centralized stocks rising v. private wealth (and the wealth of the nation).
On your other points, a rise in the stock market shifts business’ focus from doing their job (delighting customers) to manipulating their stock price. An over-inflated stock market is, thus, bad for the economy. This is how you get Green Nude Eel mission creep in power companies, increasing emphasis on FAANGs, and outright scams like Theranos — not to mention the horrors in the entertainment field.
That’s not to say that I want to depress stock valuations. I’d merely like to see them based on merit, not hype. And I’d like to see companies value performance and not PR.

The online voter registration system, it seems to be an honor system. Anybody can put information in there to register to vote. And there you are. Once you’re on the voter rolls, anytime an election comes around, guess what? You get mailed a ballot, right? You get mailed something to vote. So we found that a little bit problematic.
Some registrations allegedly involved people not living in the U.S., including claims that individuals (or at least one case tied to Khan’s family) in Pakistan were registered and may have voted via mail-in ballots.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has made a massive ruling in favor of President Trump and the ICE removal process [pdf Ruling Here]. In short, throughout the nation 360 immigration judges had previously ruled that illegal aliens (applicants for admission) should be granted bond and released during the removal proceedings.
The Fifth CCA has now ruled the aliens can be detained as they go through the removal process. This means ICE captures the illegal, holds them in detention and then rapidly deports them. The ruling, which will likely be appealed to the supreme court, fast-tracks the removal.

Decision will probably be appealed to SCOTUS. SCOTUS will take a long time to rule and the appeals court ruling will likely be confirmed.

They found that several widely sold bread brands contain high levels of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the popular weed-killer and lawsuit defendant Roundup.
It’s great news! Your morning toast is practically bursting with Roundup, the same product you use to kill weeds in your driveway. I’m sure it will be fine. After all, the FDA has long called these levels “within tolerance,” which is regulatory diction for “we haven’t done a real study since 1982 when the country’s most pressing health concern was whether Orange Julius used real oranges.”
Maybe they should rename it “Monsanto’s Own.” Or how about, “Chemical Valley Bread: Now With That Fresh Herbicide Taste.”
For decades, anyone who questioned what Big Ag was putting in our food was labeled a tinfoil hat-wearing “conspiracy theorist.” And —this is the real mind-bender— food safety was exclusively the province of Democrats, who constantly complained but never seemed to accomplish anything.
Now, deep-red Florida’s doing the testing the federal government should have been doing all along, and —surprise!— your super-healthy whole wheat bread is marinated in neurotoxic carcinogens. The same agencies that assured us the covid vaccine was “safe and effective” have also been assuring us that eating Roundup with peanut butter and jelly is totally fine.
Only some brands tested positive for the weedkiller, including Nature’s Own Butter Bread (mentioned above), Nature’s Own Perfectly Crafted White, and Sara Lee Honey Wheat. Wonder Bread Classic White tested positive, which finally explains the ‘wonder’—as in, ‘I wonder what’s killing me?’ Other breads, like Sara Lee Artesano White and Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse White, had no detectable glyphosate. Dave’s Killer Bread tested positive but lower than other brands.
Florida is outing bad foods on its new food safety website, exposingfoodtoxins.com. It’s using the name-it-and-shame-it method, since nearly all these chemicals are within “safety limits” as defined by the FDA. Folks can check the website and figure out what not to buy.
The RoundupGate announcement followed two previous blockbusters this month. One found arsenic in many popular children’s candies, because pre-loading the poison makes it more convenient for Halloween serial killers. (The National Confectioners Association claimed the arsenic was naturally occurring, which doesn’t help explain why only some brands have it.) Another Florida investigation found arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, and pesticides in various brands of baby formula. Some had both lead and mercury!
Other brands, like Holle Organic, came out clear. Buyer beware.
“There are obviously a lot of issues with whatever is sold in a supermarket,” Governor DeSantis explained. “You have some that are very fresh and natural. Others may not be as much.” What he carefully didn’t say —avoiding lawsuits but clearly implying— is that the FDA could have and should have required food labeling for levels of glyphosate, lead, cadmium, mercury, pesticides, and so on. I’ll let you speculate on why those aren’t mandatory label disclosures.
DeSantis was saying, fine, if FDA won’t, we’ll disclose the levels of food poisons. Well, with arsenic in the candy, lead in the formula, and Roundup in the bread— at least they’re being thorough.
Florida —the reddest of red states— is finally doing something easy and practical that the Democrats could have done at any time, but never did. Just test the products and inform consumers. It’s so simple. No regulatory overhead, no politics, no NGOs— just give people the information and let us decide for ourselves, which, admittedly, progressives consider even more dangerous than feeding us mercury and weed-killer.
Meanwhile, Democrats have finally crept out of Big Ag’s pocket into the open, and are actually defending unlabeled contaminants in foods. Conservatives are now the clean-food party. Liberals are defending weed-killer in bread. If you’d told me that in 2019, I’d have asked what herbicide you were smoking. How the party of Big Macs became the party of food safety, while the party of organic kale started defending arsenic, is a flip historians will be unpacking for generations.
Wheat Montana flours don’t have glyphosate. They don’t do the “desiccant” Round Up spray before harvesting the wheat. And I think you can get their flour from Walmart. Prairie Gold is the best.
Another thing I saw over here, which is probably true in the states too, is they use some chemical on oats to make them grow faster/dry quicker/avoid slumping or some such… and that chemical is known to cause reproductive harm. I don’t remember the details, but we only go with known “Bio” oats, as they are guaranteed to have no chemicals added/used…
Yuck. That’s why they glyphosate the wheat before harvesting. It dries it out, so they get a higher yield per acre.

Even in their stupidity, God forces them to reveal the truth. Real leadership is sacrifice, something your average high school student is yet to learn. As far as I have been able to determine, the social circumstances of the Christian are a secondary concern for God. Admitting that as true is not the same as saying they are unimportant. The Bible is clear that God’s plan is for us to prosper in the land. The Bible also makes clear that much of the work in making that a reality is our responsibility. These foolish students and their vastly more foolish teachers are products of failed social leadership which that guy on the cross is trying to correct. Trump is a reminder of what is required. COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 27
The psalmist’s faith. (1-6) His desire toward God, and expectation from him. (7-14)
1-6 The Lord, who is the believer’s light, is the strength of his life; not only by whom, but in whom he lives and moves. In God let us strengthen ourselves. The gracious presence of God, his power, his promise, his readiness to hear prayer, the witness of his Spirit in the hearts of his people; these are the secret of his tabernacle, and in these the saints find cause for that holy security and peace of mind in which they dwell at ease. The psalmist prays for constant communion with God in holy ordinances. All God’s children desire to dwell in their Father’s house. Not to sojourn there as a wayfaring man, to tarry but for a night; or to dwell there for a time only, as the servant that abides not in the house for ever; but to dwell there all the days of their life, as children with a father. Do we hope that the praising of God will be the blessedness of our eternity? Surely then we ought to make it the business of our time. This he had at heart more than any thing. Whatever the Christian is as to this life, he considers the favour and service of God as the one thing needful. This he desires, prays for and seeks after, and in it he rejoices.

The call is general, “Seek ye my face;” but we must apply it to ourselves, “I will seek it.” The word does us no good, when we do not ourselves accept the exhortation: a gracious heart readily answers to the call of a gracious God, being made willing in the day of his power. The psalmist requests the favour of the Lord; the continuance of his presence with him; the benefit of Divine guidance, and the benefit of Divine protection. God’s time to help those that trust in him, is, when all other helpers fail. He is a surer and better Friend than earthly parents are, or can be. What was the belief which supported the psalmist? That he should see the goodness of the Lord. IMO, the following line from the article shows that the author is likely intentionally missing the point, in order to position his narrative as publishable and “safe”, and ironically he may or may not fully realize that this is exactly the same thing Lutnick was doing, by maintaining a “safe” relationship with Epstein.
I don’t see that as contradiction.
What Lutnick means by “limited interactions and only in the presence of his wife” is that Epstein was intentionally not including Lutnick in his more sketchy activities, likely because he valued Lutnick as a neighbor who wasn’t causing him trouble. Lutnick made sure that his wife was present as a SHIELD from Epstein. Lutnick is a smart guy.
Anybody who has lived, worked, or otherwise been forced to coexist with evil people, knows the value of being dropped into a dismissive low-level but not adversarial position by the perp. This is – BTW – the safest place for long-term informants.

I hope folks that read it and see the discussion on the Fifth Circuit decision see what I have been bringing in my openers lately. Strict versus Loose Constructionism.
The appeals court said on a 2-1 decision that the law said what it said – as Jeff correctly points out. The loose folks will call it a narrow interpretation. Well, yes, it is and it should be. A law that is not specific is not a law, it is a guideline or suggestion.
It does not matter what past admins did or did not do. The law is the law. The problem is the enforcement provisions of a law and the lack of penalties for those charged with the administration if they fail to do so.
A POTUS that does not enforce immigration laws is not a POTUS, he or she is a passive activist circumventing the administration of laws. That should mean immediate disqualification with penalties all the way up to and including treason charges. Which means we have a number of POTUS’s who have been witting and unwitting traitors to our country.

You can see it as you walk around the perimeter as the rock has fallen.

We camped near by and saw the Big dipper pouring out the tower. Great memories.

I agree with the English-only policy. I’m just curious about how long that gal has been in the States. I can’t imagine someone having been born here and having to navigate through everything that young people deal with without being able to speak English at all (a grandmother/matriarch of a family, yes, because the others take care of her).
It’s about reading road signs, but much more. Someone who doesn’t speak the native language will have to go through life dealing only with those in their own communities of non-English speakers. That creates (has created) entire enclaves of non-assimilated people who are content to stay that way.
Just look at Chinatown in SF or LA… Indeed LA has ghettos of probably 70-80 different nationalities… Over here, the schools are a disaster because of the refauxgees… the language competency in German that is needed for ALL subjects just isn’t there. So math, history, science, etc. scores are plummeting, as well as German language skills scores (reading, comprehension; rhetoric and argumentation and presentation are a total loss)…..

This decision is massively important – one of the most important of the year. It means that if you are an illegal alien who never presented themselves at a port of entry, and ICE finds you, you can and must be detained without bail.
The knock on effects from this will be enormous. Prior to this – if you were caught as an illegal alien and put in removal proceedings, you were entitled to bail while your lawyers string things along. You could stay out of jail for months – even years – and keep doing what you were doing in our country. No more.
Now – if you crossed illegally and ICE finds you, you’re done. You’re not walking American streets freely again unless you prevail in your removal proceeding (which is supremely unlikely). You won’t be able to go to your apartment and grab your things. You are simply done. You can either accept deportation or sit in immigration detention while your lawyer wastes their time on futile filings, and then get deported when you lose.
This will lead to a lot more illegal aliens simply giving up on their frivolous court fights and accepting deportation, which will help relieve the court backlogs. This will also lead to many more illegal aliens self-deporting. Would you rather pack up your things, settle your affairs, and get a free flight and $2500? Or would you rather try and hide from ICE, knowing that the moment they find you, you will never breathe free air in America again?
It’s a much easier choice.
