2024·01·06 Joe Biden Didn’t Win Daily Thread

What is it that feeds our battle, yet starves our victory?

January 6 Tapes Reminder

After the first release, we were supposed to get more, every week.

As far as I know it hasn’t happened.

Speaker Johnson, please follow through!

A Caution

Just remember…we might replace the RINO candidates. (Or we might not. The record is mixed even though there is more MAGA than there used to be.) But that will make no difference in the long run if the party officials, basically the Rhonna McDaniels (or however that’s spelled–I suspect it’s RINO), don’t get replaced.

State party chairs, vice chairs, secretaries and so on, and the same at county levels, have huge influence on who ultimately gets nominated, and if these party wheelhorses are RINOs, they will work tirelessly to put their own pukey people on the ballot. In fact I’d not be surprised if some of our “MAGA” candidates are in fact, RINO plants, encouraged to run by the RINO party leadership when they realized that Lyn Cheney (and her ilk) were hopelessly compromised as effective candidates. The best way for them to deal with the opposition, of course, is to run it themselves.

Running good candidates is only HALF of the battle!

SPECIAL SECTION: Message For Our “Friends” In The Middle Kingdom

I normally save this for near the end, but…basically…up your shit-kicking barbarian asses. Yes, barbarian! It took a bunch of sailors in Western Asia to invent a real alphabet instead of badly drawn cartoons to write with. So much for your “civilization.”

Yeah, the WORLD noticed you had to borrow the Latin alphabet to make Pinyin. Like with every other idea you had to steal from us “Foreign Devils” since you rammed your heads up your asses five centuries ago, you sure managed to bastardize it badly in the process.

Have you stopped eating bats yet? Are you shit-kickers still sleeping with farm animals?

Or maybe even just had the slightest inkling of treating lives as something you don’t just casually dispose of?

中国是个混蛋 !!!
Zhōngguò shì gè hùndàn !!!
China is asshoe !!!

And here’s my response to barbarian “asshoes” like you:

OK, with that rant out of my system…

Biden Gives Us Too Much Credit

…we can move on to the next one.

Apparently Biden (or his puppeteer) has decided we’re to blame for all of the fail in the United States today.

Sorry to disappoint you Joe (or whoever), but you managed to do that all on your own; not only that, you wouldn’t let us NOT give you the chance because you insisted on cheating your way into power.

Yep, you-all are incompetent, and so proud of it you expect our applause for your sincerity. Fuck that!!

It wouldn’t be so bad, but you insist that everyone else have to share in your misery. Nope, can’t have anyone get out from under it. Somehow your grand vision only works if every single other person on earth is forced to go along. So much as ONE PERSON not going along is enough to make it all fail, apparently.

In engineering school we’re taught that a design that has seven to eight billion single points of failure…sucks.

Actually, we weren’t taught that. Because it would never have occurred to the professors to use such a ridiculous example.

Justice Must Be Done.

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.

Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.

Kamala Harris has a new nickname since she finally went west from DC to El Paso Texas: Westward Hoe.

Lawyer Appeasement Section

OK now for the fine print.

This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Poltical correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines,  here, with an addendum on 20191110.

We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.

And remember Wheatie’s Rules:

1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. Zeroth rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government get your guns.
5. Rule one of gun safety: The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

(Hmm a few extras seem to have crept in.)

Spot Prices

All prices are Kitco Ask, 3PM MT Friday (at that time the markets close for the weekend). (Note: most media quotes are for the bid…the price paid by the market makers, not the ask, which is what they will sell at. I figure the ask is more relevant to people like us who wish we could afford to buy these things. In the case of gold the difference is usually about a dollar, for the PGMs the spread is much wider.)

Last Week:

Gold $2,063.20
Silver $23.88
Platinum $998.00
Palladium $1,126.00
Rhodium $4,950.00

Gold $2,046.30
Silver $23.26
Platinum $971.00
Palladium $1,050.00
Rhodium $5,050.00

Yes things are down a bit (except rhodium). BUT: Gold has now showed some staying power above $2,000. No guarantee it won’t have another Big Dip, but this looks good for the long term.

OK with that out of the way it’s time to discuss asshoes.

Obligatory PSAs and Reminders

China is Lower than Whale Shit

Remember Hong Kong!!!

中国是个混蛋 !!!
Zhōngguò shì gè hùndàn !!!
China is asshoe !!!

China is in the White House

Since Wednesday, January 20 at Noon EST, the bought-and-paid for His Fraudulency Joseph Biden has been in the White House. It’s as good as having China in the Oval Office.

Joe Biden is Asshoe

China is in the White House, because Joe Biden is in the White House, and Joe Biden is identically equal to China. China is Asshoe. Therefore, Joe Biden is Asshoe.

But of course the much more important thing to realize:

Joe Biden Didn’t Win

乔*拜登没赢 !!!

Hi Patricia,

Whether you’ve been with me from the start or just heard from me for the first time at the debate, I couldn’t be more grateful to have a chance to connect with you.

Now, I think it’s important to take a few minutes to talk with you about the journey I have been on. Once you’ve finished reading this, please consider making a contribution of any amount to help me fund my campaign so I can get my message out to every voter!

Ever since I launched my campaign for President, I have read and heard my life described in every way imaginable. Today, I want you to hear my story in MY words.

comment image

I am the daughter of legal immigrants from a small, rural town in South Carolina. We were the only Indian family in our town. My father wore a turban as he still does to this day, and my mother wore a sari. No one knew who we were, what we were, or why we were there. But with each passing day, the community began to look beyond our skin color. They began to see my family for who we are: hard working people who held the same values they cherished. Gradually, those initial stares transformed into smiles and we shifted from being excluded to embraced. Not every day was perfect. But every day was better than the one before it.

After graduating from Clemson and working in the corporate world, I decided to take a job working for my family’s business that my mother started in our living room when I was a child. I was frustrated when I saw how hard it was to make a dollar and how easy it was for government to take it away. When I voiced these frustrations to my mom, she gave me some wise advice which was: “Don’t complain. Do something about it.”
So, that’s exactly what I did and I decided to run for state legislature. But it wasn’t easy. I ran against the longest-serving legislator in the state and no one believed I had a chance. I was polling at a mere 15 percent a week before the primary. But the people of South Carolina took a chance on me, and we won.

comment image

It was an honor to serve the people as a state legislator. I fought against the status quo and stood up for the people of my district. When I fought for government transparency by pushing to make sure important votes were on the record, my colleagues retaliated. They stripped me of my committees. So I decided to run for governor.

When I campaigned for governor, people didn’t know who I was. I was polling in fourth place, with limited time until Election Day. I was the least funded and least known GOP candidate. But together, we defied expectations and won. Then, we made a difference in South Carolina by cutting taxes, creating thousands of jobs, and revitalizing our economy.

When I was nominated as Ambassador to the United Nations, people said I didn’t have the experience. I proved them wrong. When I got to the UN, I took the “kick-me” sign off our back. I told the world that America would have the backs of our allies, and for those who did not have our backs, we were taking names! The dictators, murderers, and thieves at the UN didn’t know what hit them.

I launched my campaign for President because our country is heading down a path of doubt, division, and self-destruction. We need a leader who will rise to the occasion, offer solutions, and prioritize serving the people over the political class.

Now, I just completed my SECOND debate, and I need a SURGE of support to keep the momentum strong in order to continue sharing this message across America! It would mean a lot to me if every single person reading this could send a donation of just $5 to help us end this quarter STRONG! >>

Your donation will not only show that my campaign is a force to be reckoned with, but it will showcase the tremendous momentum we have gained since last quarter!

With my mandated FEC end-of-quarter deadline quickly approaching, I’m hoping you’ll consider pitching in a generous gift today!

Will you consider making a one-time donation of any amount today to show the power of OUR movement? >>

[VC note, there are various links to click to donate from $5 to $150 or “any other amount” in this space]

Patricia, throughout my life, I’ve been shaking up the status quo. I’m hoping to do the same as your next President. But in order to get there, I need your help to make it across the finish line – starting right now.

Your support is what keeps our movement thriving, so thank you for standing with me.

My very best,

She’s a total fraud. She’s not even effective at trying to fool the people, like some RINOs from the past have been. Her double-mindedness is obvious.

Haley was born to Ajit Singh Randhawa and Raj Kaur Randhawa in South Carolina. Traditionally, when Sikhs are accepted into adulthood, men take the name “Singh” (“lion”), while women take the name “Kaur” (“princess”). Like many other religious groups who intentionally set themselves apart, Sikhs come in for a fair amount of abuse wherever they settle in the world.

While generally inoffensive and law-abiding in the rest of the world, Sikhs come from a particularly rough part of India — Punjab — which sits near Pakistan, Kashmir, and Tibet. While not as renowned as the Nepalese Gurkhas, they have a history of being a tough bunch.

In my business dealings with Sikhs, they have been admirably stiff-necked — calling things as they see them. Part of the required gear for a Sikh man is a kirpan — a ceremonial dagger that, among other things, is meant to divide truth from falsehood. They carry them everywhere.

comment image

I would regard Haley better if she had “Kaur” in her name and were less flexible in her positions. Instead, she has become a waffler.

scott467

“Traditionally, when Sikhs are accepted into adulthood, men take the name “Singh” (“lion”), while women take the name “Kaur” (“princess”).”

_____________

Well that’s not equal. Don’t these backward people know that women can be lions, and men can be princesses?

I grew up listening to the live version (of Lola) on the double LP titled One for the Road (1980)

My other favorite song from that album is their live version of Celluloid Heroes:

“Part of the required gear for a Sikh man is a kirpan — a ceremonial dagger that, among other things, is meant to divide truth from falsehood. They carry them everywhere.”

_____________

Don’t care, no special treatment for Sikhs in America.

If sikhs are allowed to carry their ceremonial daggers into the bank, then Americans are allowed to carry their ceremonial Glocks and Smith & Wessons and Sigs and M1911s into the bank.

The law applies to everyone equally, or it applies to no one.

This is not a difficult concept.

pgroup2

You sure are being fussy. 🙃

scott467

I didn’t notice until just now that the bank in question is in ‘Bangalore’, which is presumably in India.

I had thought it was another typical case of special rights for anyone and everyone in America except for Americans who resemble the people who founded this country.

cthulhu

You’ll be happy to know that the TSA Nazis don’t allow any religious weapons in the cabin — they all have to be checked. That includes kirpans, kukris, or athames.

She changed her husband’s name. It’s well known.

scott467

It’s just unbelievable…

She actually renamed her husband.

.

“GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley is apparently willing to sacrifice just about anything for her political career—even her husband’s name.

In a true Selina Meyer move, the former South Carolina governor apparently decided that her then boyfriend’s name wasn’t fashionable enough for her political motivations.

“You may be wondering how ‘Bill’ became South Carolina First Gentleman Michael Haley,” Haley wrote in her autobiographical 2012 book, Can’t Is Not an Option: My American Story.

She then outlines how she suddenly decided he no longer looked like a Bill, opting instead to call him by his second name, Michael, which her friends quickly adopted.”

______________

So she decided what his name would be. It’s not like his name was personal to him, it’s not like he had his own personal identity, or anything.

Change it to whatever you want, he’s just your prop.

If you become president, maybe you’ll decide to change George Washington’s name to Toby?

Or Tabitha?

Why not?

Right?

.
.

“From that point on, I started calling him Michael, and all my friends did the same.”

________

Democracy in action. This is why women can never be in charge… 🤦‍♂️

.

“When he transferred to Clemson his sophomore year, my friends became his friends, and before we knew it, he was universally known as Michael,” Haley wrote.

“He looks like a Michael,” she added.”

__________

Oh sure, ‘before we knew it‘, like it just sorta happened all on its own.

But they would have ripped him limb from limb if he had tried to rename her.

Which would never have occurred to him in the first place, because it’s psychotic and dehumanizing.

You don’t just start calling someone by a different name, and encourage all your friends to do it too, until it becomes a fait accompli, and then try to blow it off in a memoir, like it was nothing.

You changed his #*&^ing name.

Who does that to someone?

What kind of person does that?

Bill Haley & His Comets…”Rock Around the Clock”…

Looks as if her husband’s name was was too plebeian for her ambitions. She is the stereotype of a glad-handing, backstabbing, money-grubbing, lying politician.

scott467

It’s just unreal 😂

She got rid of the Confederate statues.

She didn’t even bother to rename them, it’s as if she just erased their identity from history.

Just like she erased her husband’s given name.

TheseTruths

She is ruthless. She tries to make her ambition look like political strength, and she cloaks it in a relatively gentle speaking style, but she’s a 🐍 in 👠.

Aubergine

As a woman, whose name changed when I got married, it’s a bit hard for me to get very incensed about this one.

There’s plenty to despise about Nikki without getting up in arms about her using her husband’s middle name.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

I think this is more common than people realize. At least, it used to be. I distinctly remember girlfriends asking my middle name and wondering if they liked it better. And I had a number of friends and acquaintances who went by their middle names for various reasons. I always considered it an option.

You’re the genealogist. Surely you run into this!

Aubergine

MANY times, including my own father. He always used his middle name, his entire life.

scott467

One of my best friends from childhood decided to go by his middle name when he went to college, or maybe afterward, I’m not sure now.

I still call him by his first name. I asked him about it when I found out, and he said it would be strange if I called him anything besides his first name, because that’s what I’ve always called him since we were kids.

I agreed 😂

But there’s a big difference here.

My friend chose to go by his middle name, at least when it comes to new people he meets.

Nikky Haley didn’t make the decision for him.

scott467

“As a woman, whose name changed when I got married, it’s a bit hard for me to get very incensed about this one.”

__________

Bill is not a woman, Bill is a man.

Men and women are different.

A woman taking her husband’s last name is a common Western cultural tradition for thousands of years.

A woman deciding on what her husband’s first name is going to be, is a cultural tradition for no one, anywhere.

These two things are radically dissimilar.

But leaving all that aside.

So suppose your name is Mary Kay Sweeny.

Your whole life, everyone — your family, your friends, your teachers, everyone — has called you Mary.

Because that’s your name.

It is the name you have responded to, instinctively, since a few weeks after you were born, because that’s what everyone called you. Because that was your given name.

It’s part of your identity, for practically as long as you’ve been in this world.

It’s part of who you are as a human being.

Then one day you meet a guy.

He doesn’t like your name. You’re okay (let’s face it, he must not think too highly of you, or he wouldn’t hate your name so much), but if you want to be with him, the name has to go.

So he starts calling you Kay, and tells everyone else to call you Kay.

And because you’re weak, because society has ripped your spine out and replaced it with soy juice, you go along with it.

What are you gonna do, refuse and lose your man and all his friends?

I think not!

You care much more about being liked by this guy and all his friends, even if it means you’re going to have to undergo a total re-write of your lifelong personal identity.

So Mom, stop calling me Mary, I’m Kay now.

Daddy, you have to stop calling me Mary. It’s Kay. Look, I even had to get my driver’s license changed, and all of my other important documents changed.

I’m Kay now, m’kay?

Because I am no one, I have no self worth, my name is unimportant. What is important is what my man wants to call me, and all his friends too. I don’t have any of my own friends. I have no self esteem or sense of self-worth, or even a basic identity of my own.

But I found these other people, and they’ll let me hang out with them and all I have to do is let them call me whatever they want to call me.

If my man wants to call me Doormat, then I’ll be Doormat. Fortunately he was okay with Kay, so I’m just Kay now.

Okay?

Yeah, that’s not weird… that’s perfectly normal.

And healthy.

Everybody does that😉

.

She could claim that she never said she wouldn’t.

cthulhu

*Shrugs* It’s not illegal…..just really weird in a creepy over-controlling sort of way.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

I probably had too many creepy and over-controlling GFs, and definitely that as far as dates, but I think several “tested out” my middle name as a first name – possibly as a way to see exactly how pliable I might be.

Men: “Would you mind wearing this during sex?”

Women: “Would you mind wearing this during romance?”

And then there’s this gal, who tests out the married name AND the changed BF name before the first date.

I’m just going to say it. The photo of her parents wearing traditional Indian dress doesn’t exactly scream “America” to me. It makes me suspect Haley has divided loyalties.

Why isn’t this relative supporting Trump?

What does Nasty Nikki bring to the table besides being a puppet of the RINO wing of the Uni-Party establishment?

Would this relative be supporting Nasty Nikki if instead its name was Nasty Ned, who pees standing up?

Is this an anti-Trump relative, or a pro-RINO relative, or an anti-man candidate relative, or a pro-female candidate relative, or a some combination?

Either way, it sounds like he or she needs an intervention.

or a some combination” is more like it. This is an elderly relative who is a strong Christian but has been steeped in aspects of leftism for much of her life. I doubt she’s a Trump supporter but she probably gets most/all of her info from main-stream sources or other more leftie people w/ whom she’s involved in her personal life though a very active outdoors-based life. 1. PROOF of the Fed-surrection

From everything I’ve been reading, it’s way beyond Pfizer/Moderna or Fauci & Associates. Like the whole thing was a DoD operation.

YW it was an eyes wide open comment as one holds their nose! :wpds_chuckle:

PAVACA

Nikki Haley was actually born an Indian citizen to Indian parents who were living and working in the United States, and is, literally, an “anchor baby”. NEITHER of her parents were naturalized American citizens when she was born in 1972: her father became a naturalized American citizen in 1978, and her mother became a naturalized American citizen in 2003.
Just as Vivek Ramaswamy is NOT eligible to be President or Vice President of the United States, Nikki Haleyi is ALSO NOT eligible for these offices.
Just as Kamala Harris was NOT eligible to be Vice President of the United States — however, now the “precedent” is set, as far as various “legal scholars” are concerned.

Well it is time to UNSET IT!

Notice they are using the RINOs — McStain, Cruz and now these two to trash our Constitution.

PAVACA

Yes, there’s John McCain being granted American citizenship just before he turned one year old. Then, there’s Ted Cruz being a citizen of Canada until he finally renounced it in 2014 to become an American citizen.
IMO, it was lawfare attorneys that twisted the 14th Amendment to include “anchor babies” as American citizens from birth.

Natural Born Citizenship=born of 2 US citizen parents on US soil is undisputed. Other forms of birth scenarios questionable…I believe Clarence Thomas joked about how SCOTUS was “avoiding” the question regarding aka BHO to our & the world’s extreme detriment 😡

Valerie Curren

Yet “they” felt the need to go through some dog & pony show in the Senate to give a declaration of their feelings that he, McStain, was therefore an alleged Natural Born Citizen…while simultaneously deflecting all such questions that should have been thrown at the Kenyan commie!

Thanks for the post Steve. Hope you have a great weekend!

I don’t think you are a football fan, iirc, but around here we’re pretty excited to see the Detroit Lions finally secure a playoff berth (the first time in my kids’ lifetimes I believe), in spite of the cheating call that stole their presumed victory over Dallas last week. We still are enjoying the show w/ them this year! Head Coach Dan Campbell’s got cojones!

Also the Michigan Wolverines secured their spot in the college football National Championship Game after their hiccuppy win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl finally. It’s been a long time coming that we’ve finally done well over an SEC team. Go Blue!

Around here they are hyping up the last time Michigan was a “national champion” & that was a shared title with another school at that time which was Extremely Controversial in these parts. Hubby is looking up the data for me now: Last title for Michigan was 1997, shared with Nebraska somehow.

OK so I went looking & this article has good details including:

When was Michigan’s last national championship?
The Wolverines, ranked No. 1 in 1997, beat No. 7 Washington State in the Rose Bowl, for its most recent title win. However, not everyone calls Michigan the national champion that year.

Big 12 champion and undefeated No. 2 Nebraska beat No. 3 Tennessee in the Orange Bowl. As such, it has led to a contested national championship, with six of the selecting organizations (led by the AP, FWAA, NFF) picking the Wolverines as the title-winner and 13 (led by the coaches poll and USA Today/ESPN) picking Nebraska. Another called the two co-champions.
Only one Michigan team has been the undisputed, unanimous national championship-winning team, and that was in 1948, when all NCAA selecting organizations, led by the Associated Press, dubbed the Wolverines that season’s best team.

Valerie Curren

LOL I hadn’t heard about that one. That would have been such an epic fail 🙂

Robert Baker

It is my understanding that the Rose Bowl is now a contest between the Big Ten and the Pac 12 only in years where it is not a part of the playoff games. Of course that is moot because the Pac 12 has been divided between the Big Ten and the Big 12.

No doubt there was money to be had, which caused a mess…..

TradeBait2

The Rose Bowl has been in a rotation of playoff related major bowls. If it is not their turn to host a semifinal or the final game, it is set up to host the Big 10 and PAC. The PAC lost all but 2 of its members for next season, so the arrangement is in doubt and will likely change while the Rose Bowl remains in the major bowl rotation for the expanded 12 team playoff.

College football is my thing. Except I did not watch the Michigan/Alabama game, No offense to Valarie, but the terrible sign stealing scandal conducted at Michigan to go with Bama’s long known paying of players under the table prior to NIL and likely continuing afterwards, made it a Cheaters Bowl for me and millions of other fans. The sign stealer(s) probably impacted the results of some games in 2022. Some of those affected games had teams that had the potential of playing Michigan in the playoffs that season. The evidence that has been collected and the firing of the primary suspect who was photographed on Michigan’s sidelines communicating with players and coaches is a bridge too far for me.

Being a Tennessee fan, I am all too familiar with our own past coaching scandals and that of other SEC schools to condemn anybody else. But I do not have to support it by watching.

A good explanation:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2023/10/20/michigan-football-jim-harbaugh-sign-stealing-investigation-ncaa/71258883007/

Even if they eventually get off with a slap on the wrist, I suspect Coach Harbaugh will be heading back to the NFL for his next gig.

Robert Baker

I myself am an Ohio State Buckeye fan. Of all the sports I have had an interest in over the years I am now reduced to an interest in college football and pro golf. However it looks like the golfers have managed to destroy that sport as well.

I have been aware of the widely reported rumor of Harbaugh’s return to the NFL. I don’t know, that report seems to have followed him every off season for several years now. I am not much of a Jim Harbaugh fan but I really admire his brother John who I consider a fine coach and a man of integrity. I share a similar opinion of the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I am a Bengals fan so I usually root for the Ravens and the Steelers to lose but my respect for both coaches has been unmoved over the years.

TradeBait2

Same here on the football and pro golf. I hate seeing what is coming in golf. Have similar feelings about both John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin. I like that both orgs have retained them through good times and bad. Loyalty is a two way street. Also happy to see the Bungles be the Bengals again. Having grown up in SW Ohio. I went to their summer/fall camp practices at Wilmington College that first year of the franchise. I am big fan of Joe Burrow and watched Tee Higgins play in high school down here (Oak Ridge). He was as good at basketball as he is at football.

I no longer have much interest in the Titans here. They have always chosen to ignore drafting/signing Vols and are still eat up with being the old Oilers. They are building their new stadium in Nashville as the team and org continue to deteriorate. Right at a time they need to come alive and get the people in the state behind them, they tank and alienate the Vol fans even more. Not very bright.

Robert Baker

Interesting. I grew up east of Cincinnati in Clermont county but it seems like you may have been a little further east than me. I suffered thru the long Bengals droughts as well. I think they have the personnel to finally win a Super Bowl now but time and injuries will have something to say about that.

As for the Titans I think they are waiting for that one missing piece. I like their head coach, a Buckeye man. I hope he can last long enough to find the needed players.

sign stealing scandal conducted at Michigan” which led to the suspension of Coach Jim Harbaugh was an unconscionable move of meeting out a penalty Prior to a conviction for an alleged offense. Supposedly if “sign stealing” did go on it was basically a Status Quo behavior for many football clubs. Not that this would justify the behavior but contextualize it.

Jim Harbaugh & multiple U of M players have been quite outspoken on their Christian faith, so from our family view it is possible Aspects of what has been happening to Michigan could be rooted in anti-Christian animus.

Apparently more than 27 million people watched this Rose Bowl game, which is one of the highest rated Bowl games ever. My husband thinks that having Jim Harbaugh as a villain has been engineered by TPTB in order to increase viewership through controversy for economic reasons…

Valerie Curren

Rose Bowl USED to be Big 10 vs PAC 10 but not for a while now. I think it is more of an invitational thing & perhaps used as part of the (controversial) College Football National Championship process. Since it is partly opinion based as to rankings, at least, it will likely never be fully without controversy, imo…

Cuppa Covfefe

But the Rose Bowl Stadium is in Pasedena, which is Pac 10 territory (and an alternate stadium for USC, as they’ve played in the Rose Bowl so many times 🙂 )…

Used to be AP rankings versus UPI (remember them) rankings…

Now there are bowls for everything…

Money, money, money, money, money….

Valerie Curren

Yes Money is Always a factor.

When Big 10 vs PAC 10 was at the Rose Bowl, the Big 10 was Always at a disadvantage since it was more like a PAC 10 home stadium. I guess few people have the balls to play playoff football outside in the North in Winter, since U of M’s Big House is supposedly the largest football stadium so it could make sense to host major bowl games there too!

What does this mean?

TheseTruths

I don’t know the context, but I’m guessing it’s from the Epstein reveal. Apparently Trump didn’t stay at his Palm Beach house. Clearly, he wasn’t using it to hold parties or engage in nefarious activities. When he did show up there, he didn’t have a formal dinner served to him; he just ate in the kitchen with the staff, “a man of the people.”

pgroup2

I was unclear. I meant – why did you post it?

TheseTruths

As an example of Trump’s humility.

smiley2

Trump’s “humility” ?

or just plain good sense ?

TheseTruths

Probably both. People are always talking about Trump’s ego as if he thinks he’s above everyone else. They don’t “get” him, and they don’t report on incidents that reveal his service to others and his hobnobbing with the people. He is not the self-absorbed, narcissistic person they portray him to be.

Gail Combs

I remember in 2016 when Trump was first running, someone at the other Treehouse was at an event. She stopped at the Ladies and when she came out, there was POTUS Trump talking to two janitors about floor wax. He asked what they thought of different brands and how they got such a nice shine. She said he was genuinely interested in what they had to say.

There are a lot of similar stories but they do not ‘FIT THE IMAGE’ the Fake News wants to portray.

Think of just how much POTUS Trump would be loved by ALL people if the Fake News had treated him fairly instead of doing character assassination after character assassination.

Aubergine

He was asking because he wanted to have it in his properties, would be my guess. He was genuinely interested in how they were getting the floors to look so good. He cares about every detail.

Gail Combs

I am sure that was the reason. It was his willingness to acknowledge the expertise of a worker and to be interested in that type of detail that I found interesting.

Aubergine

Yes. Trump sees the value in every person. It is one of his finest traits.

Gail Combs

EXACTLY!

As I said, if he had been treated fairly by the press he would have been a much loved POTUS by ALL people.

I agree.

So now, SC will (whatever legal term), simply say the case is moot? Hope not.

SC needs to 9-0 say it was illegal to take, threaten to take Trump off the ballot.

Otherwise, dozens of States will do this ruse. To make life miserable for Trump AND hope one case sticks.

This shit needs to be stopped. Make CO and other states look as crooked as they are.

para59r

Would tend to agree. Calling the case moot would not settle the question and with the unsettled question other states will continue with the shenanigans, but not just they, it can still become moot right down the line with Trump appearing on all ballots everywhere, but if it’s still an open ended question in the minds of bureaucrats that count the vote, electors that decide the vote, and citizens after the vote is decided. In essence you end up with a level of anarchy up and down the line that has permeated throughout society in general making such nearly ungovernable with out draconian dictates. We are going to get a lot of that anyway and to what extent the SC is still considered a viable institution will determine the ability of them being able to correct for any of this. Also because a state like Colorado has backed off their lawsuit, they can likely still reactivate as means to toss more wrenches into the system and further exacerbate things if the SC fails to lay down the law.

Society and our nation have fast become a runny mess.

Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3: Cornell Law

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. The right to remove disabilities imposed by this section was exercised by Congress at different times on behalf of enumerated individuals.1 In 1872, the disabilities were removed, by a blanket act, from all persons “except Senators and Representatives of the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses, officers in the judicial, military and naval service of the United States, heads of departments, and foreign ministers of the United States.” 2 Twenty-six years later, Congress enacted that “the disability imposed by section 3 . . . incurred heretofore, is hereby removed.” 3

DeWine bans gender-affirming surgeries on minors

Executive order signed days before legislature’s plan to override veto on gender-affirming care ban

A week after vetoing a broad, GOP-backed ban on gender-affirming medical treatments on minors, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed his own executive order Friday to block gender-affirming surgeries on anyone under 18 in the state of Ohio.

The order comes a few days before the Ohio General Assembly returns from a holiday hiatus with intent and the numbers to override the term-limited Republican governor’s veto on House Bill 68, which stalled a ban on minors undergoing gender-affirming hormone treatments and blocked gender-affirming surgeries on minors, despite a lack of evidence that any Ohio facilities perform such surgeries.

“I think it’s a good way to take this issue off the table and assure everyone that there are not surgeries going on with minors,” DeWine said in a Friday press conference. “You can’t prove a negative. I can’t say that there’s never been a surgery on a minor … but if there are, we should ban them.”

DeWine, who came under intense nationwide scrutiny from Republican officials and voters after expressing his belief that gender-affirming hormone treatments can be lifesaving for transgender minors, said he hopes the executive ban will create a sense of comfort for those with concerns. He noted that he found a broad consensus opposed to gender affirming surgeries on minors in the two weeks he spent finding facts in the lead up to his veto.

An executive order can be overturned, but it’s not as easy to change laws. They should override his veto anyway.

_______________

This could hardly be worded in a more confusing manner.

I have no idea who was stopping whom from doing what.

It should be very simple, either the General Assembly was trying to ban minors from undergoing tranny surgery and Dewine was trying to stop the General Assembly, or vice versa, but I have no idea who is on which side of the issue without diagramming the whole freaking paragraph.

1) the general assembly returns with intent (and votes) to override Dewine’s veto of House Bill 68. So the GA passed House Bill 68, and apparently Dewine vetoed it.

2) House Bill 68 “stalled a ban on minors undergoing gender-affirming hormone treatments and blocked gender-affirming surgeries on minors”

3) So apparently there already WAS a ban on minors getting gender hormones or gender surgery, and the General Assembly House Bill 68 ‘stalled’ or overrode the ‘ban’, making it allowable for minors to get tranny stuff?

4) apparently Dewine vetoed the GOP-backed ban on tranny stuff for minors (or did he ban the stalling of the ban on tranny stuff for minors?)

5) when Dewine found out the General Assembly had enough votes to override his veto, Dewine signed an Executive Order to effectively nullify his own previous veto and (effectively) support the intent of House Bill 68 (which he previously vetoed), which he (apparently) only did because he was about to have his veto overriden anyway.

If that is a correct understanding, it’s a miracle.

I couldn’t have written something that convoluted if I tried, it made my brain hurt just trying to unravel it.

He vetoed a bill.
The legislature planned to override the veto.
Before they could do that, he signed an executive order banning gender surgeries on minors, while stating that he doesn’t think those surgeries are happening anyway.

It looks to me as if he’s trying to minimize the issue because he got so much backlash.

I think that summary after the title sums it up:

Executive order signed days before legislature’s plan to override veto on gender-affirming care ban

pgroup2

You’re lost.

The legislature passed a bill that banned ‘gender affirming care’ for minors.

DeWine vetoed it.

Consensus is that legislature will override the veto, once back in session.

So he did (by executive order) what the legislature tried to do by legislative act, before he vetoed the legislature’s bill?

Didn’t he just effectively override his own veto, by signing an executive order contradicting his own veto?

Alaska flight 1282, a Boeing 737-9 MAX bound for Ontario in California, left Portland just after 5pm local time on Friday when a deactivated emergency door used as a regular cabin window blew out at 16,000 feet. It was carrying 171 passengers and six crew.

The catastrophic failure depressurized the cabin, with the force of the air rushing in ripping the shirt off a young boy. A mom was seen holding onto her son for dear life, with passengers also watching as their phones were sucked out into the night sky.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported on the plane, which had only gone into service in November 2023. Boeing, Alaska Airlines and the National Transportation Safety Board have all launched investigations…

Reports suggest that fortunately 26A, the seat next to what appears to have been an emergency exit with a window, was not occupied.

Although a door is available in the plane’s design Alaska chose not to exercise that option, having the doors deactivated by Boeing before delivery.

It therefore appears from the inside of the cabin like a regular window seat, although from the outside the frame of the deactivated door remains visible.

The emergency exit doors are designed to open inwardly and cannot be pushed outwards, according to Airline Reporter

TheseTruths

This is the video from inside the cabin.

scott467

That would certainly inspire confidence in the integrity and general maintenance of the rest of the plane 👍

Great part where the passengers are reassuring each other that no one was sitting next to the window.

Back when 737 Max was grounded a few years back, Trump said Boeing should rename, repackage AC name. Doesn’t physically change the AC. More of a PR stunt.

My shallow thinking.

  • Investigators need to look at who assembled that part of the AC.

—-

Windows, doors, panels simply falling off are rare. Can only recall one. Perhaps it was a Hawaiian Airlines AC. Several decades ago.

Coincidence? At this point, NOT by me.

kalbokalbs

Boeing doors, cargo hatches….

Wiki

On April 28, 1988, a Boeing 737-297 serving the flight suffered extensive damage after an explosive decompression in flight, caused by part of the fuselage breaking due to poor maintenance and metal fatigue.

(Aircraft built 1969)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Airlines_Flight_243

—–

HONOLULU —  A 10-by-20-foot rectangular hole tore open on the right side of a United Airlines jumbo jet carrying 355 people to New Zealand early Friday, sucking nine passengers to presumed death at 20,000 feet and injuring 18 others.

The incident, which began with what a number of passengers said seemed like an explosion, occurred 20 to 30 minutes after the jet left Honolulu International Airport. Despite the fact that two of the plane’s four engines subsequently failed, the jet’s veteran pilot was able to fly 50 miles back to Honolulu, where he made an emergency landing.

However, there was no immediate explanation for why the hole opened up around the side baggage door of the Boeing 747 beneath the ninth row of the main cabin, exposing the airplane’s business-class section to a sudden change in cabin pressure that pulled passengers into the darkened sky and exposed the rest of the plane to a chill nightmare of noise, debris and dust.
Possible Causes

Speculation centered on the possibility of a failed cargo door lock, a structural failure in the fuselage or the possibility that an explosion in an engine had caused a part of the engine to pierce the fuselage.

After a cargo door on another Boeing 747 partially opened in flight because of a damaged lock last year, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered airlines to improve door lock systems on older Boeing 747s. That work had yet to be performed on the jet used on Flight 811, but United officials noted that the FAA-imposed deadline is Dec. 31 of this year.

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1989-02-25-mn-210-story.html

scott467

What’s the big deal, the plane still flies with the door open. Roll the windows down, live a little.

People used to be heartier.

They even used to fly in open cockpits, with goggles 😂

cthulhu

I think the 16,000 feet is the real problem. They probably could have taken it down to 8,000 and continued to their destination.

That’s what the oxygen masks are for.

Once everyone is properly masked up, with the windows down and the doors open, might as well have some fun and give the passengers a ride to remember, do some barrel rolls and loops 👍😂

The oxygen masks don’t really work for very long. They’re mainly to gain time enough to descend to a safer altitude.

I was doing research about it when that Malaysian Airlines jet disappeared. The partial radar traces look like the pilot may have taken the plane up to a very high altitude, cracked the cabin, and waited for everyone’s oxygen masks to run out — then sealed the cabin again and descended to a more normal altitude before his own oxygen supply was depleted.

That would depend on fuel.

Yea, whatever 19,000 would get them.

Mighty damn cold…

Any bets the maintenance is done by unqualified ‘Diversity Hires’?

cthulhu

I don’t think this one was maintained wrong — it’s more likely to have been built wrong. The door was supposed to be “deactivated” at the factory, and not be able to open inwardly even if operational. For it to “pop” outwardly is huge — all the hinges and seats for operation as a door had to have been removed and all the bridging elements and reinforcements for it to be a “wall” had to never be installed. This seems like a factory problem.

….which still could have been done by “Diversity Hires”.

“….which still could have been done by “Diversity Hires”.

YUP!

Think about it. Since the 1970s  “Diversity Hires” have been injected into US manufacturing. We have no idea of how much rot now lies under the surface.

I keep remembering the aircraft manufacturing Quality Engineet who gave a talk about the dangers of ‘ISO 9000’ at a 5 day symposium I went to in the 1980s.

He was told NOT to do incoming testing. However as a good sane QE he still grab a hand full of incoming CHINESE bolts and tested them. The test only takes a few minutes on an Instron Tensile Testing machine.

He was horrified to find the 5 hash mark (strongest) bolts were nothing but pot metal with a very low shear strength. Sort of makes you wonder about that plane…

ISO was all about reducing expertise to “IF….THEN” statements, so that the processes could be handed off to overseas workers or machines.

It did nothing to improve actual quality in the here-and-now.

Gail Combs

My seatmate at an early ISO seminar was a Russian. He told me it was a SOVIET SYSTEM and did not work. However it plus ‘Just-in-Time’ was an accountant’s wet dream.

We really need to go back to Mil Std 105d.

cthulhu

There are several flavors of “Just-In-Time”. Kan-ban, for instance, is almost entirely an accounting gimmick to stick suppliers with holding inventory on their books.

A large part of the problem is that the techniques of actual production are neither being handed-down to the next generation nor taught in an academic context. It’s like how Dr. Spock started with the unspoken constraint, “you can’t call mom.”

In the real world, a little red wagon manufacturer would require its wheel supplier to stock 30 sets of wheels at a workstation adjacent to the wagon’s shipping point. A wagon with handles and axles would come to that workstation and draw four wheels, and those wheels would be attached and the wagon packaged for shipping twenty minutes later.

The thirty sets of wheels would be carried in the supplier’s inventory until use (despite being in the manufacturer’s building) — and would be in cost-of-sales upon shipment, and spend nearly zero time in the manufacturer’s inventory.

What I ran into as a QE was 3 problems.

  1. NO PHYSICAL INVENTORY. In other words the part was not held in an onsite or close by warehouse but was produced by the manufacture in time to be shipped as we needed it. (Now add in a blizzard or hurricane.)
  2. ONE SUPPLIER This was supposed to help tighten up your specifications but if that manufacturer had a fire or other disaster you were SOL
  3. TRUSTING THE SUPPLIERS QA DATA.

….

One of the places I worked shipped ceramic from NC to a Chicago Steel mill (Same company owned both.). If the foundry had to shut down it was a major disaster therefore we would ship OFF SPEC product if necessary to keep the foundry running. If we had a freak snowstorm we HAD TO WORK no matter how dangerous the roads were and the trucks had to travel.

Were people killed as a result? Well yeah. Three planes crashed because of that out of spec ceramic. The high level of bismuth in the turbine blade molds caused the steel to be brittle.

Did I mention there is NO WAY I will ever get on a plane again?

Wow!

Learned about the various SAE grades of steel bolts (and how to identify them) while restoring the ’67 Corvette.

Very important to use the correct grade (strength) bolts for the intended application 👍😁

This chart only shows grades 2 (no lines), grade 5 (3 lines) and grade 8 (six lines), and they were the primary ones (at least on old Corvettes), but there were grade 3 (2 lines), grade 6 (4 lines) and grade 7 (5 lines) too:
