Mom’s things were disposed of (or kept by my brother) when they put her in Memory Care last year, so, unlike Valerie, there is nothing to sort thru, nothing to trigger old memories…just the things I have had with me for a long time. That’s made things easier I guess.
The things are things. You have good memories unrelated to them.
So many of my things tether my memories to people, places, and events that will likely be quick to evaporate when I am gone. It seems unlikely that those who remain will feel the same attachment to my things after I pass.
While your (and Valerie’s) situation is having me assess things in my own life, I was really thinking of you, Pat, in your own heart. I earnestly hope that God’s comfort, healing, and peace surround you and uplift you at this time.

When CV hit, the SIL took mom for her vax and all the boosters available. she also got her an RSV vax and all her shingle vaxes. all within a short period of time. (our objections were discounted)
reading here and seeing the possible side effects–the turbo cancers and the like, how quickly her memory problems got worse plus the fact that in less than 8 months her uterine cancer went from undetectable to massive–were preparing me for what i was certain was occurring.
So I focused on Mom–making her remaining time better. We talked and laughed and played cards and I grieved a little with every visit.
She was in tremendous pain at the end and I’m grateful she’s free from that. She wanted no services, was cremated and will be in a mausoleum next to Pop.
when we gather there as a family, perhaps it will hit me harder, but for now I am okay.

I’m sorry that your mom wanted no services for that gives family & friends a chance to gather & share their love & memories & to comfort each other. When my mom died last year Dad had the services at their church of 50+ years. Many attended & were there to support Dad & his kids by extension (most of us hadn’t been at that church much since the 80s). When Dad died this year far fewer people came, but perhaps that was because neither of my parents were there to receive support. They also did not provide an “open mic” at the luncheon like they did for Mom’s event. This meant that people couldn’t informally share their thoughts & memories of Dad (& Mom) & this was a disappointment to the Curren side of the family. I didn’t even know that my oldest son had prepared remarks for the open mic & my hubby didn’t know until just before the actual funeral that he was on deck on the funeral program to share his poem when he’d thought he would share it on the open mic.
I hope you & your family & perhaps close friends can get some degree of closure as you visit the mausoleum at least.

I want to add to my comments here with a practical, real life situation that happens all over America.
The same day my SonIL and his team arrested three illegals and handed them over to ICE, he and one of his officers took a call to a home later for the suicide of a 14 year old girl. She had been abused by her druggie parents and others for years who did not really care that she was dead. It was heart wrenching for him with three kids of his own at home.
Many of the illegals are involved in the drug trafficking and other crimes that contributed to the death of that precious young teenaged girl who had suffered hell on earth as a result. God rest her soul.
Go and stay on offense. Pound the public with real world information and reports. Never let the evil doers have a moment’s rest.
Two of my son’s friends he and my daughter graduated with have died in the last few years. One from a drug OD, had been clean for a few years. Was one of the nicest kids in their group of friends.
The other just committed suicide last week. Left behind two young kids and a wife. Also one of their other friends Dad committed suicide awhile back, his wife died from cancer. He went into deep depression, his son found him behind the house.
These events definitely effect other’s besides just families.
Sorry to hear about these events. Praying for all these families, including yours! May God protect your son in all possible ways! 🙏

When I moved back to east TN in the mid 80s, it was to Oak Ridge. When I drove into town there was a yellow, Do Not Cross, police tape stretched for over a mile on city property running alongside the primary highway with a creek running down the middle of it.
That town had been one big radioactive mess since the Manhattan project. That they injected the stuff into people in experiments would be a foregone conclusion with the number of captured former Nazi scientists they employed there.
Fortunately, they have spent untold billions in the clean up of it and the government’s reservation over the decades that followed. It was so bad the groundwater had been contaminated and worked into the Clinch River and Melton Hill Lake nearby. Most locals knew to never eat fish caught in them or the deer and other wildlife they hunted. My uncle was from the county, left for decades, then returned when he and my aunt retired in the early 90’s. He loved to fish. He knew better, but, decided he could cheat death and eat his catches. He died of cancer at age 68 a few years after his return.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 55
Prayer to God to manifest his favour. (1-8) The great wickedness and treachery of his enemies. (9-15) He is sure that God would in due time appear for him. (16-23)
1-8 In these verses we have, 1. David praying. Prayer is a salve for every sore, and a relief to the spirit under every burden. 2. David weeping. Griefs are thus, in some measure, lessened, while those increase that have no vent given them. David in great alarm. We may well suppose him to be so, upon the breaking out of Absalom’s conspiracy, and the falling away of the people. Horror overwhelmed him. Probably the remembrance of his sin in the matter of Uriah added much to the terror. When under a guilty conscience we must mourn in our complaint, and even strong believers have for a time been filled with horror. But none ever was so overwhelmed as the holy Jesus, when it pleased the Lord to put him to grief, and to make his soul an offering for our sins. In his agony he prayed more earnestly, and was heard and delivered; trusting in him, and following him, we shall be supported under, and carried through all trials. See how David was weary of the treachery and ingratitude of men, and the cares and disappointments of his high station: he longed to hide himself in some desert from the fury and fickleness of his people. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. In Mullin v. Doe/Trump v Miot (No. 25-1083/84) SCOTUS stripped 350K Haitians and 6K Syrians from Temporary Protected Status Program (TPS), Kagan/Sotomayor/Jackson dissenting.
TPS plainly bars consideration of respondents’ non-constitutional claims. Federal courts have no power to review TPS termination decisions at all [1], a position that effectively bar judicial oversight of future decisions affecting more than 1.3M immigrants currently living under TPS.
To recall: For Venezuelans, SCOTUS paused lower court rulings that barred the administration from ending it, twice (24A1059 on 5/19/25 and 25A326 on 10/3/25)

I read a sci-fi book a while back that had a human-like male character searching for his missing wife as a subplot. It turned out she was a Giant Centipede imprisoned in a pit by one of the bad guys & used to bend others to the tyrant’s will as he’d throw a peon in the pit & “she” would kill him/eat him before hitting the floor–gross!

(WASHINGTON, D.C., June 24, 2026) — Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released the annual Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payment error rates (PER), which measure how accurately states determine who is eligible for SNAP and how much they should receive.
The national payment error rate for fiscal year (FY) 2025 is 10.62%, far surpassing the congressional threshold of 6%.

While this is a modest decrease from FY 2024, the FY 2025 rate still shows significant waste at the state level. Including both overpayments and underpayments, this year’s rate represents a collective $10.1 billion in improper payments nationwide.
“These payment error rates are further proof that state accountability is severely lacking in SNAP,” said Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins. “USDA has taken historic action to help interested states curb SNAP waste, and I hope other states, regardless of political leadership, prioritize needy families and the American taxpayer over politics.”
H.R. 1 added new guardrails for states’ payment error rates, implementing real financial consequences for states that mismanage taxpayer dollars. States with error rates at or above the 6% threshold will be responsible for covering 5%, 10%, or 15% of their states’ benefits. The higher their PER, the higher the percentage—and in most cases, as soon as October 1, 2027. The FY 2025 PER is the first year that could be used to calculate those percentages.
In addition to this matching fund requirement, states with PER at or above 6% threshold are required to submit a Corrective Action Plan to USDA’s Food and Nutrition Administration detailing how they will address the root cause of their errors. Some of these states may also be liable for a separate financial penalty as part of the SNAP quality control process.

Somewhere around middle High School (grade 10 or 11 I think) we read about Plato. The text said Plato had called “democracy” a bad form of governance. I asked “If Plato said it was bad, and we are being taught he was wise: Why is democracy being pushed as ‘good’ in our society?”. The answer was a vague mumble about our democracy being different… And it really is. Just not enough.

Praise Your holy name Heavenly Father, for granting yet another day in my life and for being with me every step of the way. Thank You for the many blessings that You have provided and the love and fellowship that I have with the friends and family that in Your grace You have placed in my life.
My heart is so thankful for all the many blessings that I enjoy day by day, and today I am once again reminded that Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation.

Prayer Of Reflection On The Past Day
Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.
Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray.
Thank You, that You are a God who forgives our transgressions when we are willing to confess them to You, knowing that such cleansing before You immediately draws us back into sweet fellowship with Yourself.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
