Is God Silent?
In answering this question, we are reminded of Elijah and his flight from Jezebel. Elijah was a man of God whom God used to do some mighty things. However, when word reached him that Jezebel had threatened his life, he ran (1 Kings chapter 19). Elijah prayed to the Lord and in effect complained about how he was being treated: “He replied, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too’” (1 Kings 19:10). The Lord’s answer to Elijah is thrilling: “The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper” (1 Kings 19:11-12).
We see in this passage of Scripture that what Elijah thought was not true. Elijah thought God was silent and that he was the only one left. God was not only “not silent,” but He had an army waiting in the wings so that Elijah was not alone: “Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him” (1 Kings 19:18).
In our walk as born-again believers, it may seem that God is silent, but God is never silent. What looks like silence and inactivity to us is God allowing us the opportunity to listen to “the still small voice” and to see the provisions that He has made for us by faith. God is involved in every area of a believer’s life–the very hairs on our heads are numbered (Mark 10:30; Luke 12:7). However, there are times when we have to walk in obedience to the light that God has given us before He sheds more light on our path, because in this age of grace God speaks to us through His Word.
“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it’” (Isaiah 55:8-11).
Therefore, when God seems silent to us as born-again believers, it may mean that we have stopped listening to His voice, we have allowed the cares of this world to plug our spiritual ears, or we have neglected His Word. God does not speak to us today in signs, wonders, fire, or wind. His Spirit speaks to us through the Word, and in that Word we have the “words of life.”

So far so good, but I still need to order a new power supply, and of course the power supply (two options) I need doesn’t exactly correspond to anything on Amazon, and other places list them with slightly different numbers here and there (wattage, amps, other seemingly important numbers), because nothing can ever just be straight forward and direct, everything having to do with a basic home PC requires a degree in electrical engineering.
And most of my regular use programs are ancient because I don’t like the changes made to newer versions, so I was using things like Excel (2003) and Word (2003) and Word (2019), all of which are way past support from Microflacid.
So they are security vulnerabilities. Apparently the reason I haven’t had a problem is because I only use my own Word docs and Excel docs, I’m not downloading or accessing anything online, and apparently Bitdefender offers some of the protection that these unsupported old versions lack.
But Brave strongly recommended against reinstalling my old MS programs, and either upgrading to new MS Office or downloading free alternatives like LibreOffice or OnlyFansOffice.
It’s actually called OnlyOffice, but come on.
So I tried LibreOffice, opened my Excel spreadsheet (that apparently was created in 2009), has my music collections, Corvette parts, blu-ray movie collection, etc., and there are little red triangles in half the cells.
Brave walks me through a lengthy process to remove the red triangles, which are ‘alerts’ that the amount of text is overflowing the cell. I don’t need the alert, I know the text is longer than the cell can show, unless I click on it to expand the cell.
Brave offers lots of helpful advice, like widening the cells, or using a smaller font to shrink the text (and other obvious ideas), none of which will work. If I expand the cell column width, it pushes the columns on the right side of the screen off the screen, so I need to use the scroll bar all the time to see the right-most column. But if I use the scroll bar to see the right-most column, I can no longer see the FIRST column, which identifies the row I’m looking at.
And the text is already Arial 8 font (where I can get away with it), it’s Arial 10 for most columns with some text changed to Arial 9 or Arial 8 if I can make it fit and still be visible, but some cells I don’t need to see at a glance, so I make them Arial 8 and click on them if I need to see the full content of the cell — like date of purchase and source, which I rarely need besides simple curiosity or to see if I’ve done business with a particular seller before, but I started including it decades ago, so there’s no reason to stop now.
If I make it any smaller than Arial 8 it loses resolution. And if I use text-wrap, it makes the whole row bigger, turning the spreadsheet into a visual mess.
Eventually Brave and I figure out that the latest version of LibreOffice had the means to eliminate the red triangle ‘alerts’ REMOVED. There’s no way to get rid of them.
The LibreOffice community has lodged complaints and ‘BUG’ reports, but the fascist leadership of LibreOffice, like all such power-mad types, just ignores them.
So without a fix, Brave suggests OnlyFansOffice, which is supposed to be even better (more like) Excel, without the red triangle problem. Why didn’t Brave recommend that one first, I mutter aloud to myself.
So I tried OnlyFansOffice, and it’s good enough for Excel. But when I launched their Word substitute, and opened my first Word doc, the text is messed up.
It’s legible, but it looks like random letters are boldfaced, and other random letters are too skinny.
Once again, Brave bravely walked me through the minefield of MSconfig and regedit, and I’m deep in the bowels of my fresh Windows install, asking Brave “is it safe?” like I’m the Nazi Dentist in “Marathon Man”, only to find out NO, don’t touch that, then Brave says sorry I didn’t mention it before, to which I reply “Good thing I asked, huh?”
That’s a real confidence booster.
After an hour of playing at the bottom of the Marianas Trench, deciding whether to cut the yellow wire or the green wire, Brave said it’s unfixable.
So OnlyOffice works for Excel, but LibreOffice doesn’t. And LibreOffice works for Word docs, but OnlyOffice doesn’t.
So I think fine, I’ll use one office suit for Excel, and the other office suite for Word.
I go to open my daily scratch pad Word doc, which is over 4,000 pages long at this point — contains lots of posts copied and pasted from here, along with all sorts of jpegs and png images of screen shots from financial videos with accompanying notes, text boxes, font style and size changes, video links, I use it like a searchable note pad.
And it crashes LibreOffice.
I ask Brave, explain about the 4,000+ page Word document and how it locks up / freezes LibreOffice, and Brave says there is no way LibreOffice can handle an old Word doc of that size with all the different formatting.
So the only option left is to get an individual license for Word 2024. But it’s something like $150, so Brave says I might as well get MS Home Office 2024 (Excel, Word and Powerpoint), because it’s often on sale for less than the individual programs.
So that’s where I’m at. I was able to remember and download most of my other apps that were wiped during the Windows ‘reset’. Like Fireshot, which is a free app that I use for taking screen shots, either whole pages or viewable section or selected section. But I couldn’t remember what it was called, so that was interesting, trying to get Brave to list all the free screen shot programs, until I recognized the one I use everyday but didn’t pay enough attention to, to remember what the name was.
I’m sure there’s other stuff I’m missing, which won’t occur to me until I need it, and it isn’t there.
It’s like trying to rebuild a car that was held together with duct tape, after it smashes into a wall.
The system seems stable, I have rebooted it several times now (required after various installs), and so far, it has booted properly.
And it’s running much cooler. Partly due to not needing to have 7 youtube videos running constantly in the background, but even without that, it’s running cooler than usual, leading me to think there was some kind of corruption that was making the CPU work a lot harder than it should have for the last 1.5 years or longer, and somehow this was fixed with the Windows ‘reset’.
Unfortunately the reset messed up everything else, which I am trying to repair.
And I’m not happy about having to spend $130+ on MS Home Office for an office suite that I’ll only be able to use until October 12, 2027.
Plus the cost of a new external power supply if I can figure out which one is ‘right’, plus the cost of repairs, which was more than the Mac mini cost (the guy was here for 3 hours).
So it hasn’t been a very good week, and the light at the end of the tunnel is almost certainly an oncoming train 😂
There are ways of making Libre Office work (it’s much more capable than Microsoft Office), and once it DOES work, it will more reliably carry forward.
Since you’ve found the Libre Office forums, you have noted that sometimes you need external programs to massage your data before Libre Office gets it running. Again, this is a small one-time cost to throw off the MicroSerf shackles.
I didn’t find the LO forums, Brave Ai did, and Brave Ai was giving me instructions based on the forums plus whatever other sources it was accessing.
I’ll try it again, hopefully later today.
One possibility with your giant Word document, if you can finally get it to load into LibreOffice, is to save it in that app’s preferred .odt format, and use it thereafter in that format, which I predict would be much faster and more responsive. Note that this format is transferable then to any computer which can run LibreOffice, which is Mac, Windows, and Linux.
I was able to get it to load into OnlyOffice and it looks okay at the moment. I haven’t checked all 4,000+ pages, but everywhere I’ve searched within the document looks right.
So I saved it in the OnlyOffice format, whatever that is.

I’ll try LibreOffice again later, and give it plenty of time to load up before I try scrolling or do anything on the page, that may be what crashed it last time.

IMO people’s interpretations of photo comparisons are completely unreliable. It is true that his appearance has changed over the years, but there are several reasons for that to be the case. There are too many other things that did not change.
I’ve seen a number of photos that supposedly prove that the JB we’ve been seeing is not the real person. IMO they do not provide such proof, and I think that belief in this kind of thing is as damaging to thinking people as some other things that I will not name at this time.
I could go on, and have, here, many times, about all the ramifications of such ideas and who all would have to be affected and involved. No one ever provides explanations for how such a thing could have been achieved.

I learned during my reporting years ago: The military are our vaccine guinea pigs.
They always have been.
The industry/military partnership can study adverse events without reporting them publicly or even telling the soldiers that’s what they may be suffering. (It’s just PTSD or concussive injury, they say, which may also be components. Military mental and physical illnesses are caused by more than one thing. But officials rarely admit vaccine dynamic in it.)

Would like to repeat this as I actually experienced this and would help a lot of people–doing the Buteyko Breathing Technique actually made my heart/arteries POP a couple of times. My 3 open surgeries (all general anesthesia) probably caused them to constrict/narrow or be partially blocked. This happened the first time I did the Buteyko Breathing Technique (hold breath/nose while moving the head sideways and up and down, then wait for the feeling of “drowning” where your lungs would move and try to breath, try to have this feeling as long as possible, then start breathing through the nose as little and as slowly as possible, just enough to maintain that “drowning” feeling. I felt the pops. My always clogged nostrils got unclogged). To me, this seems like HIIT. Hope this helps a lot of people. Cheers

There were a spat of drownings in military training where guys would compete at holding their breath and drowned.
It was finally solved – they were using breathing techniques to purge their blood of CO2 in order to hold their breath longer. They held their breath so long that they ran out of oxygen but they couldn’t tell because they never got the urge. They lost consciousness and drowned when the first involuntary breath was water.
So you can see my skepticism.

I am highly dubious about new magical magnetic effects for a peculiar reason.
Observing magnetism in the wild is an imprecise pain in the kiester. Maxwell’s equations provided a mathematical underpinning, which meant that observations became limited to “does it fit the math or not?” To my knowledge, nothing has contradicted the fundamental mathematic construct of magnetism.
Worse than that, the math has been extended widely — and, as Steve showed in his series, even underpins the infamous E = mc^2 of nuclear physics. None of which is particularly flawed.
Magnetism has been worked out in cryogenic superconductors, the plasma of stars, in microphones and linear accelerators, speakers and antennae, the direction of electron beams in CRTs, and in the read/write heads of spinning rust. It’s going to take a ginormous rock on the road to have people steer elsewhere.

When I was a youngish kid the city of Dearborn, MI offered some type of babysitting service that my mom used a coupe of times (I don’t know if it was free or not). She’d drop us off for a couple of hours at the Recreation Center & we’d play with other kids who were also (trapped) there while she went shopping I’d guess, or maybe got her hair done. I remember it being fun. When I was a bit older I went to that same rec center for some reason, maybe to get a swim tag to access city pools during the Summer. Heading out the back door 3-4 Arab males, teenagers I think, harrassed me in a way that was pretty scary. That was in the late 70s to early 80s at the latest, fwiw.

I think God “speaks” to us all the time, it’s just that we don’t pay attention. This happened to me just this week.
I got a call that my homeowners insurance company was coming out to do “updated” photos of my house next week. I asked multiple times “next Thursday or Friday, right?” So I could tell my grandkids that somebody might be knocking on the door, and there would be a drone flying around.
There were also a couple of things I am in the process of repairing that I didn’t need the insurance company to see. Too bad, but I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them. Do y’all know (I researched it this week) that 38-44% of all homeowners insurance claims are closed/denied with NO payout? Why do we pay them all this money? One guy on line said it best: homeowners insurance is a fee you pay so a bank will let you have a mortgage. You certainly never plan to use it.
I called my insurance broker to ask her a couple of questions about the people coming out, and what was going on. I asked for the man I have dealt with before, but he has retired. The new person’s name? GRACE. I took that as a good sign.
I decided to “cover up” the repairs temporarily. I wanted a couple of those nylon garden flags that people hang up, that say “Happy Fall” or something. I went searching the thrift stores and I couldn’t find a thing. But at the last store, I asked if they had any and the clerk said there was one in the back. She came out with it. It read “Jesus Loves You.” Again, I thought, “thank you God for the encouragement.”
I ordered some America 250 flags from Amazon and hung them up Friday afternoon. I had asked my son to help me cut some branches and such, to clean up what might be any issue. He just happened to be around to help.
And you know what? Friday evening about 7pm as we were watching a movie, the dog went absolutely nuts. The DH went to investigate, and there was a drone over my house! They LIED to me when they said they were coming next week! But mine had to be the last neighborhood on the list. Another good sign.
I think God protects and loves us. I think He lets us know in all kinds of ways big and small. We just have to pay careful attention.
P.S. I think God did it so I wouldn’t feel guilty for protecting myself from the insurance people.

We had a cluster of drones flying all over our place a few months ago. Low enough and annoying enough that I actually called the police.
Seems our right to privacy DOES NOT INCLUDE INTRUSIONS BY DRONE! Even if you have no trespassing signs up and the nice deputy said, no I can not use the darned things for target practice.

COMMENTARY FOR REVELATION 22
A description of the heavenly state, under the figures of the water and the tree of life, and of the throne of God and the Lamb. (1-5) The truth and certain fulfilling of all the prophetic visions, The Holy Spirit, and the bride, the church, invite, and say, Come. (6-19) The closing blessing. (20,21)
1-5 All streams of earthly comfort are muddy; but these are clear, and refreshing. They give life, and preserve life, to those who drink of them, and thus they will flow for evermore. These point to the quickening and sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit, as given to sinners through Christ. The Holy Spirit, proceeding from the Father and the Son, applies this salvation to our souls by his new-creating love and power. The trees of life are fed by the pure waters of the river that comes from the throne of God. The presence of God in heaven, is the health and happiness of the saints. This tree was an emblem of Christ, and of all the blessings of his salvation; and the leaves for the healing of the nations, mean that his favour and presence supply all good to the inhabitants of that blessed world. The devil has no power there; he cannot draw the saints from serving God, nor can he disturb them in the service of God. God and the Lamb are here spoken of as one. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Whether you want it or not…
Yesterday we did a couple of pony rides. The second one was at a church. Unfortunately it rained but quit for a brief period.
We managed to get all the kids a ride before it started raining again but we only stayed for about 1/3 of the promised time. After talking to the Pastor (fall festival vs Christmas) We decided on a Christmas pony ride, complete with antlers at 1/2 price to make up for the cut short event. (Completely my idea BTW)
We were rewarded by a BRILLIANT TOTAL rainbow with a very clear 2nd rainbow and even a third! We even drove under that rainbow on the way home.
Wow! Sounds like a win-win! And three rainbows to boot.
It was fantastic and lasted for a good 1/2 hour or more.

My neighbor actually had a deer jump into the backseat of her car, stare eyeball to eyeball with her and proceed to jump out the other window.
Then ther was Hubby’s sighting of a black panther. tail to nose stretched across the entire 2 lane road so it was NOT a bobcat!
👆 That agrees with a story a decade or more ago of some guy in NC seeing a truck with a large cage covered in a tarp in the same area. He peeked under the tarp and there was a pair of black ( melanistic) large cats.
I mentioned Hubby’s sighting at the feed store and a few of the farmers confirmed they had also seen these cats.
My husband swears he saw a Mountain Lion crossing the road when we still lived in Northnern Michigan 3 decades ago. Supposedly there are none in that area but he said there was no other animal it could have been given size, color, & the way it moved.
The re-wilding projects are dumping predators back into the countryside on the sly because they know the farmers and ranchers would raise the roof if they knew. Then the officials spring into action with deny, deny, deny…
The big cats are the easiest because they are shy of people and sighting are few. the melanistic are the favorite because it is so easy to deny they exist.
There are sighting of melanistic jaguars in Florida.

I did not know this until I saw it mentioned on X (formerly Twitter). When a company hires J1 student temporary or season employees, they do not have to pay the 7.5% FICA or Social Security tax on the wages.
If a company hires a seasonal American student, they have to pay the 7.5%. If the company hires a foreign student, they don’t. This creates a perverse incentive for private equity firms, companies or corporations to hire foreign seasonal workers. This is true, I checked it out.

Dark mornings are being traded for sunny after work hours. I will take the after work sunshine thank you very much.
If you are waking at 5 AM to be on the road at 6 AM to be at work at 7 AM whether sunrise is at 6:30 AM or 5:30 AM today does it really matter? You are getting up in the dark either way. However that extra sun in the evening DOES MATTER because it is part of your free time.
The way I see it, humanity can adapt schedules to real time.
Industry set time schedules to take advantage of sunlight hours before electric lighting was universal. Most are not going to go to the bother of changing it.
One of the accounting firms I worked for had “summer hours” of 35 hours per week after tax season.
