I’m a Board Certified anesthesiologist and have been in practice for 24 years. I just learned that the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where I trained has launched a program to increase flu vaccine uptake among children by vaccinating them while under anesthesia.
The program is called “Close your Eyes. We’ll Immunize”
This is stunningly irresponsible. Here’s why:
Anesthetists are extremely risk avoidant and endeavor to minimize patient exposure to anything which carries potential side effects. This is particularly true of pediatric patients who very often have never been exposed to anesthetic medications. We simply cannot know how an individual child will respond to these drugs for the first time.
Every single medication we administer during an operation can potentially trigger untoward or allergic responses. When this occurs our primary responsibility is to stabilize the patient. Our secondary responsibility is to identify the offending agent. There is absolutely no justification of introducing another agent, in this case a flu vaccine, which carries a risk of harm and contributes nothing to the success of the operation.
Some of the more common side effects of flu vaccines are fever (11-16%) and less commonly, a rash (1%). There is also an non-zero risk of severe allergic reactions and high-grade fevers which can develop over the course of minutes.
What if a child under anesthesia receives a vaccine and develops a rash and/or fever? Is it from the antibiotic that the surgeon requested? Is it from the narcotic? The anxiolytic? The barbiturate?
Anesthetic gases can also (rarely) trigger a life threatening response called Malignant Hyperthermia which commonly presents as a high fever. Without subsequent testing we cannot know which agent was responsible. Most commonly the testing is never done and the child’s record will forever reflect the possibility that some or all of the drugs which were used are responsible for their reaction. This makes future anesthetic care significantly more challenging and will require the use of alternatives which may not be necessary.
Advocating for a flu vaccine while a child is anesthetized reflects the pervasive yet inaccurate attitude among the medical establishment that vaccines are perfectly safe. I simply cannot believe that my mentors would have ever supported this initiative when I was a resident there. Close your eyes indeed.
I’m not doubting that, but I find it hard to comprehend that medicine has fallen so far. It doesn’t mention whether permission would have been given for the children to get vaccinated. Surely they aren’t planning to vaccinate without consent. I hope that anesthesiologist and others can put a stop to this.
Oh, these horrible hospital administrators (who are not doctors) will have the parents giving the AOK BEFORE any doctor even hears about it. And then the WRONG doctor (the anesthesiologist for an operation) is the doctor who has to refuse, while the other doctors of the patient never even hear about it.

Many thanks to those who prayed for my mom today. She got through her surgery and the doctor said the surgery went very well. She slept most of the time I was there but talked to my brother briefly. I’m really relieved this part is over. They told me they would do some PT the next couple of days just to get her moving and doing some simple things to see what kind of rehab or therapy she’ll need. She was in a wheelchair and unable to walk before surgery, so she just needs to be able to transfer herself from her chair again. I’ll know more tomorrow when I see her again.

One thing to look into (in the stack of other priorities) is how her bones got so weak that a fall could mess up her hip. She may need dietary change and/or supplements, along with the PT.
I think the fact that she’s been in a wheelchair for several years is what has weakened her bones. She always had good bone density before. Not using your legs is going to weaken your bones and muscles in your legs and hips. Not much can be done about that.

Between April 2024 and November 2025, he allegedly used those cards and a point-of-sale device tied to the LLC to steal more than $660,000.
Overall, the scheme is accused of diverting roughly $4.6 million into fraudulent accounts, with about $4 million siphoned via the cards. Some reports link more than 500 Georgia EBT cards to him.

Meet Dr. Fakhruddin Attar and Dr. Jumana Nagarwala. In 2017, charges of performing FGM on young girls were brought against these two Detroit doctors. However, the charges were dropped as it was ruled Congress did not have the right to criminalize the practice of FGM.

What is especially shocking is that the clinic where federal prosecutors say up to 100 girls had female genital cutting performed on them is still open at a new location.
Judge Bernard Friedman threw out the main charges in 2018. He ruled the federal FGM law unconstitutional because Congress had no power under the Commerce Clause to ban what he called a local criminal assault.
“Congress overstepped its bounds by legislating to prohibit [female genital mutilation],” Friedman wrote, calling it a “local criminal activity” for the states to regulate, not Congress.
In 2017, Michigan enacted MCL 333.9159, part of the Michigan Public Health Code, which prohibits cutting, removing, or sewing closed any part of a girl’s or woman’s external genitals for non‑medical reasons. The question then remains as to why Michigan hasn’t done anything about these two doctors.
Indeed, state prosecutors never filed charges, and the Michigan licensing board took no action. Both doctors simply renewed their unrestricted licenses and went back to practicing.

Now, when asked whether she had married her brother, she said that, to her knowledge, she had not. Wait, not to her knowledge — is she serious? That’s a disaster.
If she is actually Omar’s daughter and if she married her brother she knows what the DNA tests will show.
Have you considered she is setting up an alibi with this answer?
Moslem men in that part of the world often have mutiple wives, often kept in separate residences. Her father being rich and powerful in Somalia it is a good possibility. So is she trying to say yes I married my brother but was unaware of it because we weren’t raised together and never told we were related, so the marriage wasn’t fraud and I am innocent?
I could see her lawyer telling her to try this path. It makes sense. Of course marriage fraud is only one part of the investigation. Entering the country under a false identification, connections to fraud in Minnesota and money laundering in her California winery are still open investigations too. She has a lot of problems, this is only one of them.
I had thought that a marriage to her brother would not have been consummated since, you know, they were related and since its purpose was to gain him entry into the U.S. But if she married her brother without knowing they were related, I shudder to think what would have happened in that instance. I have not heard of children being born of that marriage, though, which supports the idea that she did know he was her brother.

FTA Stafford man is being held without bond after allegedly taking a sledgehammer to the Iwo Jima monument in Quantico.
Around 10:13 p.m. Wednesday, Prince William County police officers responded to the statue near Richmond Highway and Fuller Road in Quantico, just outside Marine Corps Base Quantico. Officers found a man – later identified as 27-year-old Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano – “actively damaging the statue with a sledgehammer,” according to a police news release. Officers quickly detained Maldonado Soriano.
Destruction included removal of one of the soldier’s heads. Damages are estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, police said.
Soriano has been charged with felony destruction of property, trespass with intent to damage property and felony injury to a monument. He is being held without bond.
