Justice Served At Last?
I’m genuinely surprised the Left hasn’t gone apeshit over this. We’ve been hearing that having an Antifa dirtbag shot or otherwise harmed by one of their intended victims is precisely what they want…so why aren’t they trying to use this?
We’ve heard nothing. Not about the intended victim/shooter, and not about the aggressor/shootee. Some of the comments claim the shooter was arrested, and none of the Antifa thugs was.
But some digging reveals a few things: Per the Albuquerque Journal, the shooter is Steven Baca, 31, and Baca was apparently charged with felony aggravated battery and unlawful carry of a deadly weapon. The shootee was Scott Williams, 39, and he has survived.
Apparently, before this video started, Baca had assaulted three women and what you see here is him being pursued by their friends. If so they went over the top swinging blunt objects at him, but people would tend to have sympathy with them.
This would only help the Left push the line that they are righteous and being attacked by the mean evil Right.
So why isn’t the Left pumping this for all it’s worth?

Coin of The Day
The figure of Justice, complete with balance scales, goes back a long time. It appears on the 2015 commemorative issued for the 225th anniversary of the US Marshalls (who I hope are getting busy now). Though they did omit the usual sword.
There’s another rendering on this coin from Niue, a Pacific Island country that seems to make all of its money from selling coins to collectors. This time she has a sword.
Notice though the applied gold coloring–it’s a reproduction of a Roman coin that appears to be from the reign of Vespasian, 69-79 CE (IMPCAESAR VE…NVS AUG; the dots are what’s covered by the rendering of the other side of the coin; I am guessing the word in full is “VESPASIANVS”), with “IVSTITIA” (Justice) on the reverse. Vespasian, before he became emperor, beseiged Jerusalem.
Here, she’s not holding scales but sometimes is seen on Roman coins doing precisely that. Like on this next coin:
This apparently was from the time of Trajan (98-117 CE), as in “Trajan’s Column,” as in “Dacia,” modern Romania. Trajan’s column still stands in Rome, and its construction was a notable feat of ancient engineering.

With the gold coin, I was thinking that he was associated with the first major bout of inflation, but I think that was Diocletian — that’s when “gold coins” slowly became “mostly gold, and smaller coins.”
IIRC, Diocletian was also the first emperor to successfully arrange for a successor and leave Rome, to live out the rest of his days in…..Dalmatia? Used to be Yugoslavia….now overlaid with Balkan states?

Rome?!?!? I thought Trajan’s Column was at the Victoria & Albert in London — I’ve seen it there, myself.

What I was thinking when I typed that, was that the original was erected in Rome.
The one in Rome is the real one. The V&A version is — like so many other things in the V&A — a copy.
The original had a niche in the pedestal where the ashes of Trajan and his wife were interred in golden urns (now long disappeared). Inside is a spiral staircase to the viewing platform at the top. As originally constructed, a statue of Trajan stood atop. This was removed, presumably by DLM [Dacian Lives Matter] in a “mostly peaceful protest” during the Middle Ages. In 1587, Sixtus V replaced it with a bronze statue of Saint Peter, who remains there to this day [6/20/2020].
For those unfamiliar with the V&A, it is an intensely peculiar museum…..though very practical. Once you understand its purpose, you can understand its charm It has no overall guidebook to reference, and it doesn’t explicitly state what its purpose actually is — but once you see it, you will understand it.
Let’s start in a long corridor that never gets any press — Ironwork. Rooms 113-114(E). This is six long (maybe 40′ each) tall (maybe 20′) rooms in a row. The walls are just white plaster. Attached to them are metal staircases (with railings), metal balconies, window gratings, security shutters, gates, segments of fence, doors for coal chutes, and the like. In the middle, there are andirons, wood grates, boot scrapers, and other smaller pieces. Everything has its little museum card “Ex. 12345. Iron Balcony. Spanish, circa 1450, Toledo”.
What kind of a museum is this? This is a museum for a country that has tremendous capabilities and wants it all. It wants architects to be able to train in London to work anywhere, and to know a lot about the rest of the world without a lot of expensive and dangerous travel. If a wealthy person in the Berkshires wants to have a back escape from his villa that looks like a Toledo alley, he can specify that he wants a “V&A 12345 Spanish Balcony, with a 12435 Spanish staircase leading into the garden.”
And everything clicks into place — they have a largish room of wallpaper samples. They have rooms of furniture. They have rooms of clothing. Sadly, only about a third of the rooms are open to the public with exhibits — but the exhibits are not to be the finest or the most famous…..they illustrate the time, the culture, the style. If you’re writing a book set in 1874 Edinburgh, you could poke around in their collection for some historical details about drawing rooms and ladies’ wear. If you wanted an Italianate villa from 1700’s Tuscany, the V&A could show you how to fake it — and much of it is “fake”. The amazing cast courts are all cast copies of the originals. But they’ve been kept and conserved, where so many originals have experienced various misadventures.
Compared to its neighbors, the Natural History and Science Museums, the V&A can seem a little glib — I mean, Stephenson’s Rocket*….. but once you get what it’s for — so that every craftsman in England can imitate anything on the continent without going there — it’s a total hoot.
*The Rocket seems to be on indefinite loan to the National Railway Museum at York since September, 2019. It was on display at the Science Museum in London for 150 years. Perhaps they got tired of a populace too undereducated to appreciate it there.
Loved the V & A….could spend an entire vacation there. For me, being the girly type, as well as a once upon a time serious seamstress, I was fascinated with the huge display of period clothing with the creativity, fine details and admiration that it was hand-sewn.
The last time I was there, I was with a friend who makes clothing and costumes for antique dolls (now that’s a specialty occupation!)…all well-researched and using as much authentic materials as possible. There’s an exhibit featuring dolls and doll houses, etc, and I thought I’d never get her away!
The quirkiness of the building, the hodgepodge of exhibits, etc is deliciously so very British it only adds to the charm of the experience.

They weren’t at the time…although some museums now allow without flash, but devices have to be inspected and approved, and tagged as such.
My friend took copious notes and made quick drawings of details.
As an aside, from the time we booked our trip to the actual date she had an unexpected hip replacement and was only 3 weeks out of surgery. As any frequent museum visitor knows, walking and standing on those marble/granite floors is murder under the best of circumstances so she was a real trooper to endure the discomfort.

I’ll be honest – I totally get kicking us out. I saw Q as a problem for Sundance from the beginning. I can’t lie about Q, so I had to create this place to talk honestly about it. Would have been nice if we could have stayed OT, and I think it could have worked out, but not my call.
Look at the WWII cryptographic efforts. These people had to act as if Hitler and Tojo were going to WIN, and they were the only people who could stop it, which was almost the complete truth. EEYORE OP. Absolutely no phony morale of “oh, don’t worry – somebody will save this shit for us” can be allowed in such an operation, because THEY’RE the “somebody”. It’s do or die.

I accept all aspects of Q – including the ones that are totally psy-op, and YOU, ME, WE are the TARGETS. SD sees the same thing from his camera angle of “no way am I trusting some plan”.
Hey – *I* don’t trust the plan. Not 100%. I trust that there are great people working on it, and that it’s been working well, and that it’s 100% patriotic, but I don’t trust that there will never be any problems or mistakes, because this is war and we have to triple-check everything. The enemy has a plan, too, and it messes with ours.
I get Sundance on this. He’s less trusting than me. So was my mother. WAY less trusting. That’s why Hitler never managed to kill her. I was raised on stories of Hitler, and the utter reality of Nazism and communism, and the *massive* conflict between the way my mother saw it from INSIDE and the way Americans saw it. Likewise, I had to rationalize my own thinking about how to STAND UP and prevent loss of liberty, with my mother’s “survivor thinking”, which always defaulted to personal survival.

In addition, what Sessions did was unleash all the action against the trafficking rings. In the early days, we forget, there was one LOCAL headline after another of drug and human trafficking figures being rounded up. There were long discussions about having to go for the little fish first and getting evidence via rolling on the next level up in the operation and eventually getting to the top. Sessions DID do that which is not the splashy headline telling of a grand slam that the sports fans want, but it’s not “doing nothing.”
As for the rest on Sessions…the conflict, real or part of the script, certainly has held the attention of all parties. Wonder what else the DoJ has gotten accomplished since cases have not been compromised by over exposure.

White Christians will be the Jews this time, and Jews will be stuck in the unenviable position of picking sides like Christians had to do under Hitler.

For those not afflicted by Governor Nuisance, this may seem like not a big deal, but he has now declared that Californians must wear face masks in public irregardless of any medical advice or local guidance. At least one of the 58 County Sheriffs has already declared that he won’t waste his time enforcing this, but, y’know, there are a lot of fringe-types out in the backwaters……
It won’t be enforced in Sacramento County, home of the State Capitol.
A lot of States have laws on the books making it illegal to wear a mask or hood in public.
And I think CA is one of them.
These were passed to thwart the KKK.

Before those laws were passed…the KKK would march down streets at night in their garb with their faces covered, to terrorize and intimidate people.

It’s truly ironic…that today, some elected leaders are ‘demanding’ that people wear masks in public.
We are going to have to get very real on mask-wear, and very FAST on setting a unifying national standard that reflects REAL SCIENCE. It may mean distribution of WORKING masks.
Why do I think this? I believe China is DEEP behind this insurrection, and WILL release a SECOND VIRUS in the fall, if not SOONER.

we had a funeral earlier today…we found a dead hummer on our chair–must have flown into the glass door…sigh…

we’ve had quite a few birds hit the windows–even had a hawk once…since the whole front is glass. we put a roof over the deck section and that has helped, but the hummers fly so fast and dive bomb each other.
Awww…I hate when that happens – we have some nasty bluebirds who peck on the windows – I scare them away with the fly swatter – lol – I say they are nasty because they chase all of the other birds away from the feeders – the big pigs they are!!!
I love watching the little chipmunks – running through the bushes – to get to the feeders – I think their underground bunker is beneath one of our sheds close to the house – they seem to come – stuff their little faces – and poof – they are gone.
we have one that comes up on the deck and runs across to get to the other side of the yard…without getting wet or seen…lol

I thoroughly enjoyed the West Point/ramp story. It gave a window into what Pres. Trump has to constantly think about and how leery he has to be about media coverage of him. And he did it in such a hilarious way. I thought it was endearing while making a strong point.
I’m not arguing one way or the other about the flag with these comments. Just thoughts:
***Freedom of speech (and demonstration, setting fire to one’s own possessions), absolutely.
***Anarchists using the symbol of our nation as a way to insult America-loving patriots, military personnel who fought for the country, family members of those who died fighting for the country, etc. — maybe not.
***Why would any country allow hooligans to use its own symbol to try to tear it down? You don’t get to yell “fire” in a crowded theater, so why do you get to burn the flag, which could be even more traumatizing and insulting to some people?
***On the other hand, if you bought the flag, as Steve says, why shouldn’t you be allowed to burn it?
Maybe the key would be that the flag can’t be burned in public places, in public protests, for the purpose of working against this country’s founding principles. I don’t know. But I don’t fault Pres. Trump for not wanting the flag burned.

I AM harmed if those burning the flag are doing it to tear down my country’s very foundation and system of governance. And that is exactly what these protesters are doing. We are all harmed by that, not just offended. The harm manifests in an unstable society, the fomenting of unrest and doubt and lies about our history and heritage, possibly resulting in increasing numbers of people who a) don’t understand our history and b) want to overturn our government — which makes the country unstable and unsafe. Burning the flag is never a benign exercise; it inspires and supports all of that.
As it is, people have complete freedom to write and speak about all of the things mentioned above. They can tear down the country all they want. I don’t think it’s a gross curbing of their free speech to prohibit their burning the symbol of our country in a public protest.
I’ve always wondered if it is lawful to set a fire in the middle of a street, a sidewalk, or a public gathering within a city’s limits. If not, then burning the flag under those conditions is not lawful, either.
On that last paragraph…of course it wouldn’t be, since building the fire in the first place is illegal. Burning ANYTHING in that fire is illegal.
And yet in the next paragraph, you concede they are free to write about it and talk about it. Those are acts that could be FAR more dangerous to the US than some stinky hippie burning a flag.
So what makes the flag, itself, “special” that you think it’s appropriate to ban burning it, yet you recognize that speech to tear down the country must be protected?

I don’t see it as emotional. I see it as allowing people to take the symbol of our country, which, as Cuppa Covfefe points out, belongs to our country, and use it to tear down our country. That is counterproductive to a country’s interests.
The country does not own our speech, and it allows us to say what we want with few exceptions, but allowing the symbol of the country to be used to subvert it seems self-destructive.
This country has MANY symbols, many of them far more directly evocative of what it stands for than any flag could be.

Our national anthem is about seeing the flag still flying, not the documents. The flag is a unique symbol and could be protected.

You don’t get to yell “fire” in a crowded theater because the stampede is physically hazardous and even if it isn’t, you’ve damaged a business owner. Yelling fire in a theater violates the rights of others.
Burning a flag does not break anyone’s leg or pick their pocket, again, so long as it’s *your* flag and not one you stole off of someone’s flagpole.
In any case, it’s the USA’s flag.
Consider the purchase as a “right to use” license. There are very specific rules and procedures about the care and handling and disposal of flags. And many soldiers and others have given their lives to protect it.
Desecration of the flag should be considered and treated as a crime.
Good idea to consider. As you say, the flag is the USA’s; it is the symbol of this country, unlike other forms of speech.
Except it’s a tangible object, not a piece of software. There’s no “right to use” license on tangibles. And if there were–it’d be a CIVIL matter to violate it, not a criminal one.
If I’ve bought an object, I’ve *bought* it and can dispose of it as I wish (so long as I harm no one by doing so).
If you burn it in a public place, like in the middle of a street during a protest, you are insulting a huge percent of Americans. Not putting their lives in danger due to a stampede, but hurting them (and I don’t mean in a snowflake way). It grieves me to see the flag burned.
I also think that burning the flag is a subversive activity done by those who are working against the country. We have the freedom to overthrow our government if/when it fails to live up to our founding principles. I also think there’s a fine line between allowing free speech and allowing people to actively work to tear down the country and install an unconstitutional ideology or form of government, like communism, the NWO, etc.

I for one was very happy with POTUS performance. So easy to be a critic when one is not the one on the spot and is target of evil.
As Trump have nothing critical to say about POTUS . I am grateful he chose to run again a lesser man would have quit by now. I admirer his strong character and resolve to serve this country with all the crap he has to put up with.
