The Wolf’s Head Pub is open for business. It’s Friday and I don’t know about anyone else but I am ready for some camaraderie and shoulders to lean on. Thank our good God that the pub is full of fellow patriots who pick each other up off the floor, whether we’ve had too much of this dire situation afflicting our republic or too much madeira.
Madeira you say? I always wondered about this interesting drink. Turns out madeira is of Portuguese origin. Wine is subject to spoilage from heat, light and air (ask anyone who has tried to drink a week old bottle of opened wine).
Some time in the 1400s, the Portuguese discovered that fortifying fermenting wine with distilled spirits results in a wine that is safe from spoilage and extremely long-lasting. From Wikipedia:
“When added to wine before the fermentation process is complete, the alcohol in the distilled beverage kills the yeast and leaves residual sugar behind. The end result is a wine that is both sweeter and stronger, normally containing about 20% alcohol by volume (ABV)”
Madeira can be dry or sweet depending upon the distilled spirit used and the time of fermentation. Other fortified wines include marsala, sherry, port and vermouth. Incidentally, for those who make homemade bone broth, use a dry vermouth instead of wine or vinegar to help dissolve the calcium in the bones. The resulting taste is vastly superior.

It does remind me of a time diving off Taveuni in Fiji. I accidently dropped a fin in the water and jumped in after it. I grabbed it and the current line and went back to prepping in the water, then I turned around and saw that I only had about eighteen inches of the 25 foot current line left.
I came really close to visiting Samoa, and my passport was back in the hotel room.
Scary. My husband was a military diving instructor. I won’t tell you about my first diving experience except to say I went through my air in 15 minutes. 😂😂😂

I had to approve this one for some reason! Make sure that you log in using the WordPress login (bottom of the sidebar, top option on the login widget) – that is the most likely to get you approved quickly!
Here is an image of what the login looks like (although it’s the second time, and it already remembered me!)
The top option is to let WordPress authenticate you. The bottom uses this site and its own password.
I let wp sign me in cause apparently only it knows my pw and thinks I am a dumb shit.

No – the “Howdy” is when WordPress actually doesn’t recognize you, and can’t get your Gravatar. Now it recognizes you, and gives you the bell notifier and gravatar! And no approval needed, either!
Oh, I see – yes, I have ‘bell notification’ on the bottom AND the top that will not load – I think this has to do with my (2) passwords – yes?
The one at the bottom is actually a DIFFERENT notification system – it’s the “page notifier” that is part of wpDiscuz, the commenting system. The “bell” is part of JetPack, which is a plugin from WordPress. If that’s not loading, it’s probably because you need to whitelist the site. Are you on an Apple device or Windows?

You have an account here, on this site, AND one with WordPress. I do, too. Both will work. It’s probably best to use only ONE of them at a time. The WordPress account makes JetPack work nicely – but you still have to whitelist the site.
What does ‘whitelist the site’ mean?
It means turn off the adblocker. We don’t have any ads!

These are small aggravations compared to voter fraud or not having a Q Tree group.
Question – How is this Word Press site safer than the old one? I realize now that I should have read the posts about the transition at the old site, but there was so much going on with the election fraud business and I was watching all the hearings.
We are very likely to get deplatformed by WordPress, since as a Q site, they should hit us harder and sooner than Sundance. In our case, b/c we are a free site and not famous, we would be terminated suddenly and without saving our data. I could not take that chance. Better to leave of our own accord.
But the new one is still WordPress affiliated. How is it safer?
WordPress.org develops the WordPress software on the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) model. They can’t ban anybody, because you have the legal right to copy the source code and recompile it yourself.
WordPress.com is a commercial company that provides webhosting and managed WordPress. They can cut your website out from under you.
This is very similar to Ubuntu (FOSS) which has Canonical doing for-profit consulting, and Fedora (FOSS) which has Red Hat doing for-profit consulting. It’s one step better than a source code escrow in that the source code is open and published.
This site is currently hosted on Epik — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epik_(domain_registrar) . They are far less likely to deplatform us than WordPress.com [*spit*].

You have to be careful that the TEXT that posts IS in fact the URL and not just some text that has a link to the image – or the system will “honor the text” and keep the link instead of turning the link into the picture.
So when you paste, just make sure it’s the URL of the image that pastes!
