Here is my promised response to gil00 about anosmia (loss of smell) and parosmia (damage to smell, or “wrong-smell”) from COVID.
I got partial anosmia the first time I had COVID-19 in January 2020, and in some ways the smelling ability that was left was parosmic – i.e., it was not normal. I could not smell things well, and what I did smell tended to be sharp and chemical. All my colognes and after-shaves and deodorants smelled wrong. Not completely unpleasant, but different and too strong. My sense of smell returned, but it was very slow – many months. The thing was, I was so worried about my breathing during that time, that I didn’t really worry about smell. I was far more worried about getting my oxygen balance right.
The second time, when I got Delta in late November 2021, I lost my sense of smell completely, as well as finer points of taste. I have gotten some of it back, but not completely. It’s a different recovery curve. My first curve went to 10 or 20% and then rose gradually over all that time until I got Delta. It was maybe back to 80% when it tanked again, this time to 0%.
I didn’t get parosmia this time. But different smells are coming back at different rates. A few odors came back fairly fast, but even those have off days.
I read somewhere that training your nose by smelling familiar things is a good way to speed the COVID anosmia recovery process, so I do that. It does seem to help.
Quick question that you’ve probably answered, but I can’t recall. How did you figure out that you had delta in Nov.? That’s what my speed bump must have been, but only because it was early in the month and we hadn’t heard about anything new at that point.
I did lose taste/smell for a few days. What was strange was that it just went off like a wall switch — not at all like when you lose it with a cold, and you can feel it waning beforehand. And it was not tied to congestion or not being able to breathe through my nose. I was hitting this with such a med overload (oral meds/nasal/gargle/nebulizer) that I only had minor symptoms with overall fatigue.
I’m rambling on. Just wanted to know how you decided which vintage you had. 😄

I was watching the CDC strain surveillance numbers very closely at that time. They’re usually a few weeks behind, and the most recent 1-3 weeks can be off but get corrected quickly.
Omicron didn’t become significant until middle to late December, and rose fairly rapidly. It also had a distinctive symptom set – more chills, not settling into the lungs, etc. So not only was my case in the “almost completely delta” time period – I had appropriate symptoms, AND it was “breakthrough” on my prior case of “almost certainly close to Wuhan, a.k.a. “alpha” (and likely European variant) from January 2020. Delta was the first “almost guaranteed breakthrough” on Wuhan disease-conferred immunity.
Everything pointed to delta – but I never saw the (possible) strain results from my PCR, which are not given to patients.

I’m a very good accountant, but the broader finance concepts – especially global capital markets – make my head spin. I am only about a third of the way through this. Two of my simplistic takeaways:
1. Until the past few weeks studying the Russia situation and reading this CEO letter, when I though of globalization, I thought of it in the context of losing our manufacturing overseas and trade wars. Now I see that Blackrock’s (and WEF’s) more specific view of globalization has always been to control worldwide access to money. Russia and the greater BRIC collaboration, along with potential ‘thorns’ like India and Saudi Arabia can really ‘prick’ that control of access to capital if they are successful at trading in currencies other than the dollar. The possibility of Russia successfully selling oil to
EasternWestern Europe is Rubles could start an avalanche.2. Fink contends that access to capital markets is a privilege, not a right. (Naturally Blackrock deem themselves the granters of the ‘privilege), meaning they will shut Russia and other renegades out.
I take that threat down to simple, little me … how I sent donations to the Canadian Truckers’ Freedom convoy first via GoFundMe and then via GiveSendGo. First, GOFundMe decided they, not I, had the right to decide who should receive my donation, and they announced they were sending it to charities rather than the convoy. (later rescinded). Second Canada instructed banks to place holds on accounts whose account holders had contributed to the convoy through GiveSendGo, and the banks acquiesed!!!
Whether it is access to capital markets and Russia, or access to our accounts and us … the future is alarming. Digital currency will only further obscure worldwide laundering, and put politically motivated controls on how and even whether we can access our own accounts.
I hope Blackrock’s shareholder letter gets dusseminated far & wide, and people with far more expertise than I begin analyzing it. These are part of the cabal running the world.

As an accountant myself, I share your pain. Shareholder letters have little or nothing to do with accounting or accuracy, and are mostly political and aspirational. I have little doubt that many companies went private to avoid writing SEC-approved shareholder letters.

A part of the problem with a “fighting words” exception would be getting people to agree on just what is, and is not, “fighting words.” And even if so, some people would edge up to the boundary just because they can, and others would over-react by legal standards and commit an assault, sincerely believing they had heard “fighting words.”

I like the old standard of allowing the victim to decide whether or not to press charges, layered on top of “no fighting words exception”. That allows there to be moral judgement between the parties. Mandatory charging removes our freedom to judge our own selves as provocateurs or otherwise responsible. Once the STATE or the LAW becomes responsible for pressing charges, essentially, it will surely be abused.

Yes it is dispiriting if one lets it. For two weeks or maybe longer my Internet connection kept going on and off. Every time it rained or snowed or a little wind came up. One can give or or if the computer acts up. I made a big mistake not buying an Apple laptop. The Microsoft stinks.
My husband bought me a mini iPod so I do not have to rely on Internet all the time and was able to have Cellular and can get here regardless if I have Internet connection.

I actually knew a kid who died during a water polo game decades ago. It was a freak thing. The goalie from the other team pulled him out, and he had CPR from the time he hit the deck. This was a HS game, but everyone on that deck had certification. Most of the kids in the water, too. Six teams were in the room and watched one of their own die.
It’s not unheard of, but it most assuredly is not normal.

When you fly by private jet, it’s another world than what you experience over at the bus terminal across the airfield.

You drive up under the portico, like a hotel, park and unload your bags. Same as the guy in the limo does. Then you go park your car…if you don’t want the valet driver to do it for you, of course. Needless to say, plenty of parking, close in.
From there, you can be in the air within 10 minutes.
No screening. No pat downs or xray. No lines. You are expected and escorted to your plane. They are handling the bags now.
You walk through the building to the tarmac on the other wide and walk onto your plane, which is ready to go….just as soon as the bags are loaded and the door is closed. You only need 2 mins of engine warmup time before they can reliably produce 20,000+ pounds of thrust for as long as they have gas to run through them, however far that takes you. And you only need to run them at idle to move the plane around on the ground. Oh, btw…since you are on the other side the airfield then 80% of the time you won’t be using the same taxiways as the bus traffic, so you taxi and takeoff without waiting….. 2 min. after you sat down in your seat.
There’s a limo at the other end. And one of you mansions, or a lux hotel/resort…if you aren’t going to be using one of your rich friend’s places, of course…

For his “efforts” he got a bonus roughly equal to the salary of one of that ejected group… ten percent for “the big guy”, I guess.
My friend left the company a year or so later; couldn’t stomach what was going on; people losing their livelihoods, their houses, and in some cases, their families (divorce). And I heard there were a few suicides as well… He said the high mucky-mucks live in a completely different world, and basically are trained to divorce their emotions and indeed ethics from their day-to-day activities, especially where personnel decisions are concerned. One of the first “courses” they got going up the ladder was “situational ethics”. As if ethics were a “moveable beast”…

I hate the word “headcount”.
I’ve worked at a number of companies, and have often heard “we need to reduce headcount”. It assumes that every employee is an interchangeable unit — you plug in three one year, you pull out two the next.
If you actually want to get something done, you have to know the capabilities of your team — and every individual on that team will have different aptitudes and quirks. These, in turn, were developed with the sum total of the life experience of that individual to date. Yes, you can instill different skills with months of training — but their capabilities will have been developed over years…..maybe over a decade or two.
And when you get people sorted out and the engine starts firing on all cylinders…..someone comes in and says, “you lose two headcount.”
That’s what happens when you have beancounters (sorry) or marketing dweebs (e.g. Carly) running technical/engineering firms… Or even food companies (all the damage that “equity companies” have done to the restaurant and food industries)…..

A minor clarification: the needle of which Christ spoke was not a sewing needle. It is a camel corral inside the walls of the city. I will just be honest, Gail. I doubt the vast majority do have common sense because their teachers, administrators, parents and friends have been brainwashed and conditioned to accept what is unacceptable. They watch and listen to media that is feeding this shiz to them 24/7. Their games are this way, their school curriculum is tailored to it. etc.

So why is Disney opposed to it? If, as many people believe, Disney is an organization that grooms and assaults young children, it might make a little sense, but why would Disney reveal their agenda like that? Children that age should not be taught about sex in schools, period. (I don’t think this issue should be addressed in schools for any age, but that’s beside the point.) I can’t think of a good reason for Disney to oppose this bill.

DH & I vacationed there and in that area many times before we had kids and when we had them.
We thought it was a great place because of all the kid oriented stuff.
When our younger son was a toddler wheeling around in a stroller I became increasingly aware of my surroundings and what was going on around my family. When it was necessary to stop in at their children/baby, toddler/lost child station with the younger son and I noticed little kids sitting around in there without their parents, just sitting there.
DH and I thought that maybe some parents sent their kids in there so they could go through the park without their kids/creepy. It wasn’t until years later it struck me that would be the perfect way to move/traffic kids.
It felt creepy.
I realize now God was watching over my family.
If in fact this horrific stuff happened be assured they will answer to God for it, they’ll be dammed for eternity .. 🤨‼️

I had black swallowtails last year and the year before, and the birds got them in caterpillar stage.
I had about 20 blacj fuzzies in my strawberries last year but no idea what they were. I let them stay. We have monarchs and painted ladies and a few others regularly. Hope my 💐 sprout through summer to keep them around to pollinate my veggies.
