There are sensory things from childhood that we never forget.
My first thought when I read Pat’s recipe was Ewwwww!!! I’m not a big drinker and I never tasted gin until I was in my forties. We were at a grand bar in good company and I ordered a gin drink.
Flash back….When my DDH and I to Oregon, we rented an apartment that was surrounded by juniper bushes. I’d never smelled juniper bushes and trees and couldn’t quite put my finger on why I found them unpleasant. My father came to visit, got out of the car, inhaled the air and said “Cat Pi$$” Yep, I took a big whiff of the fragrance and realized he was right.
So, sitting in the Grand Bar, I picked up my experimental drink and all I could smell was my father’s declaration….I couldn’t do it….Still haven’t tasted gin, but the drink above just doesn’t sound appealing….:0)
First impressions can be very hard to overcome. I don’t think I’ve ever had gin & I don’t really drink either, though I’ll take sips of other’s drinks on occasion.
