This new attack on the Second Amendment is actually WAY WORSE than any previous one, and constitutes what may be the most cunning attack on the CORE values of America EVER. The more I have learned about these laws, and analyzed them beyond that, the more alarmed I have become.

FYI in Australia we have no right to firearms, need licenses, gun safes bolted to the floor and wall, ammo stored in seperate compartments, regular check-ups by state agencies etc and “red flag laws” have always been a thing here.
A colleague of mine had his firearms confiscated by the state after attending a rally against immigration policy. He took the state to court and after several months won his case and was able to recover his firearms, only to have the state then cancel his firearms license on a separate technicality, related to his “unsuitable character”.
Another colleague who was a regular attendee at political rallies has had his property raided by police at least three times in the past eighteen months, police claim to be “searching for illegal firearms”. They never find any and have no reason to believe they will, officers carrying out the raids have verbally apologised to him after each search, informing him that they’re just following orders.
Another man I know was gun pointed inside his own home by police after getting involved in a brief fist-fight with Antifa, after trying to attend the Milo event in Melbourne’s North. His wife and children watched their father cuffed at gun point inside his own house, before being taken to the police station to be questioned, then charged with “affray” –But the charge was later dropped.
This is what “red-flag laws” will get you in America. Regardless of the noble excuses the state and its pawns will make, this is how these laws are actually used in practice.

At first, I was only gathering and looking at OTHER PEOPLE’S concerns. But then I started thinking about things on my own. I started putting FACTS together. I started asking what the EFFECTS of red flag laws – already known in Australia – would be on America.

I suddenly realized what is going on.

El Paso and Dayton are not merely about this election. They are about REVERSING THE TRUMP PHENOMENON for good. They are about UNDOING the “Q” movement. They are about restoring the FAKE NEWS. They are about SAVING GLOBALISM and DESTROYING AMERICANISM. And AMERICA.

And yet, it almost seems like we’re sleepwalking right into these damn things.

10. Red flag laws make SPEECH a RISK.

This was a profound realization – that RED FLAG LAWS CHILL FREE SPEECH FOR GUN OWNERS. Almost all of whom support TRUMP, by the way. Real “coincidence” there.

Gun owners CANNOT afford to “take chances” and “say the wrong thing”.

Think about what I just said. Think how ORWELLIAN that is.

What this means, then, is that Red Flag laws are in fact a profound attack on the FIRST Amendment, disguised as an attack on the SECOND Amendment.

They create an ARTIFICIAL CONTRADICTION between the FIRST and SECOND Amendments.

They conflate speech and violence on LEFTIST IDEOLOGICAL TERMS – using leftist minds as judges – just like Vysotsky’s Soviet ANTIFA does. Just like ANTIFA was DESIGNED to do.

ANTIFA, filled with boys who call themselves girls, and girls who call themselves boys, who says speech is violence, and violence is speech.

This is sneaky as hell. Frankly, I cannot imagine that even a cunning POS like Cryin’ Chuck, or a shifty old witch like CHI-FI, could think this stuff up.

Let me put it this way. If it wan’t CHINA that came up with red flag, it was probably ALIENS.

Pencil-necks. You know what I’m saying. THESE GUYS.

9. Red flag laws turn neighbor against neighbor.

Again, this is incredibly insidious. Of course, COMMUNISTS and NAZIS love to DIVIDE people, but Americans? HOLY MOLY. I want to get along with my liberal neighbors. All this is going to do is generate suspicions and recriminations.

Yes, the COMMUNISTS who have taken over the Democrat party probably want MORE DIVISION, but that is the OPPOSITE of what Trump wants.

So why should we do it? As TRUMP supporters, we don’t WANT more division and suspicion.

8. Anonymous reporting makes political abuse a certainty.

Being able to CONFRONT ONE’S ACCUSER is a CORNERSTONE of our Constitutional rights. This is the SIXTH Amendment. This is the heart of DUE PROCESS.

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

This ability to confront accusers, before FINAL ACTION is taken, serves to LIMIT the power of anonymous accusations or suspicions. People cannot “get what they want” by an accusation without DEFENDING IT FIRST in a courtroom.

At least, that was the way it was SUPPOSED to work.

SIDEBAR: Note that there is an opposite problem, when the media and FBI only work for one party, in that anonymous PUBLIC accusations are the only recourse – WHISTLE-BLOWING, basically.

Yes, we have something called “anonymous tips”. But in that case, police are required to investigate and THEN decide based upon their OWN investigation if there is REASONABLE CAUSE to take action. With “red flag” laws, police are compelled to act BEFORE there is even proof of a crime. Unproven accusations are usable to CONFISCATE ARMS – the FINAL ACTION of the process. THIS IS BACKWARDS LOGIC.

This is COMMUNIST and POLITICAL.

Once again, Communists are up to their FAVORITE TRICK – the politicization of processes. Just like the Communists now running the Democrat Party politicized the DOJ and FBI, now they want to politicize local policing. They did this with their “Promise Program” that destroyed due process in Parkland, and now they want to “go big” with destruction of due process, by taking the concept nationally, using “red flag”.

There is excellent reason to believe that POLITICAL OPERATIVES will use red flag laws to harass their enemies – meaning US. We have already seen incidents of this – the SWATTING of innocent people – in states and nations that have these laws. Australia is particularly bad.

I actually have personal experience with this. I had forgotten all about it, until today.

During the 2016 Trump campaign, I was falsely accused of illegal gun carry in a felony zone by anonymous Trump opponents. This was something of a mild “swatting”, and I was very fortunate, because the police didn’t believe the complaint (which I then proved was a lie). Since then, there have been TWO entrapment attempts on me, quite possibly orchestrated by federal agents of some kind.
Political harassment using law enforcement is REAL and very dangerous.

SO – do I personally believe that “red flag” laws will be abused? ABSOLUTELY. And I predict with CERTAINTY that they will be abused against ME, if passed in my state, or nationally.

I repeat – 100% certain that they will be used against me, because of this blog.

7. Solving rifle murders before illegal alien murders is illogical.

Just look at this graph.

This shows the power of the FAKE NEWS to distort the world in favor of DEMOCRAT GOALS.

The YUGE bar on the left is murders by illegal aliens.

The thin sliver on the right is murders by rifles. ALL of them.

Red flag laws will only solve a FRACTION of the deaths by rifles, on the right.

But now let’s consider theoretical “green flag” laws, which would treat illegal aliens like gun owners. We would deport the illegal aliens, based on anonymous tips, without THEIR due process rights. They would then be vetted like gun owners, and – if “safe”, they would be let back into the United States. Even as illegals, but safe ones, we would let them back in. ALL the safe ones. Who knows – maybe MOST of them would come back in. But no matter how many, let’s presume that we only let the safe ones back in. The murderers DON’T get back in.

This theoretically solves ALL of the murders on the left.

ALL OF THEM.

So why aren’t we pursuing GREEN FLAG LAWS FIRST?

Maybe because Democrat Communists don’t WANT us to solve the bigger problem. Maybe because THEIR biggest problem is actually TRUMP VOTERS – and not murders using rifles OR murders by illegals.

6. Red flag laws deprive us of the rights we are due upon arrest.

This is subtle, but it is YUGE. I mean it – this is a BIGGIE.

This is why, if there is ever a national “red flag” law, I believe that it MUST have a “voluntary arrest option“, that GIVES ME MY FULL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS *BEFORE* TAKING MY GUNS.

In fact, the ONLY red flag law that I believe will ultimately pass muster with SCOTUS, is one that allows the accused the option to say “You can detain ME, but you cannot take my guns. Not until I have seen a judge with my lawyer present.” At that point, the police enter the person into NORMAL processing, which brings the accused before a judge in a timely manner, and ALL NORMAL RIGHTS ARE GRANTED. This path is almost guaranteed to be fully Constitutional. And the DEMOCRATS are undoubtedly going to hate it, because it will turn the tables on these damnable laws, ending their abuse SWIFTLY in a flurry of expensive lawsuits against both accusers and the state.

Once your guns are taken, they are lost in the system. Once your guns are taken, the communists have control. Once you LET your guns be taken, you have WAIVED YOUR RIGHTS. We have to make these laws ACKNOWLEDGE that the SEIZURE OF ARMS is unconstitutional, but that the accused can ONLY FREELY WAIVE THEIR RIGHTS to let it happen.

OR NOT.

And if we DON’T waive our rights, then we must be granted ALL THE RIGHTS TO WHICH WE ARE ENTITLED. Otherwise known as DUE PROCESS.

What I am doing is PLAYING ALONG WITH RED FLAG TO SHOVE THE POISON PILL OF DUE PROCESS DOWN ITS ERIC HOLDER CHINA DRAGON THROAT.

When we walk away with a traffic ticket, instead of being arrested, we are WAIVING OUR RIGHTS. When we pay our ticket by phone or on the internet, we are WAIVING OUR RIGHTS. And when we allow unconstitutional confiscation as a CONVENIENCE to all parties, we are WAIVING OUR RIGHTS. Everybody needs to recognize this.

Arrest in America is NOTHING LIKE arrest in China. Arrest gives us STANDING.

“I want an arress!” – speaking of our OWN arrest – may be the single most important way to STOP DEAD the communist goals of red flag laws.

What I am saying is that we need to view this BACKWARDS from the unconstitutional reasoning of the communists. We need to add an ARREST OPTION, so that red flag laws – if these horrifying things ever pass – are just as Constitutional as a traffic ticket. We need to view the immediate collection of arms without arrest as WAIVING ONE’S RIGHTS TO BOTH KEEPING THE ARMS AND ASSUMING THE RIGHTS OF THE ARRESTED.

And beyond this, THE RIGHT OF WAIVER IS THE GREATEST RIGHT OF ALL.

The right to CHOOSE to waive or not waive our rights is the ULTIMATE RIGHT. We cannot give this up, and yet most red flag laws STEAL THIS FROM US, by giving us NO OPTION to be peacefully arrested IN LIEU OF taking our guns.

The rights of the arrested – and particularly the FALSELY ARRESTED – are a GIANT HAMMER with which we can batter both RED FLAG and OUR ACCUSERS.

We must NEVER waive our rights to KEEP OUR GUNS, nor all the other rights which we are guaranteed by the Constitution.

EVER. Others may, but not this WOLF. “I WANT AN ARRESS!’

[NOTE: What I am really talking about is being “detained”, but same diff. Buckle up – it will feel every bit like an arrest. But if it’s a bad rap, you will be out QUICKLY and WITH YOUR GUNS.]

5. Red flag laws corrupt the role of the police.

This is very typical of communists. In the same way that Communists LOVE to change the ROLES and POWERS of the primary branches of the FEDERAL government, so too they love to change the roles and powers of STATE and LOCAL government.

In PORTLAND, they make the police STAND DOWN to “protect” the POLICE and not the PEOPLE.

In LOS ANGELES, they make the health department STAND DOWN to “protect” the “rights” of the homeless and not their health.

And in sanctuary cities around the nation, they make EVERYBODY stand down to protect non-citizen criminals, and not law-abiding citizens.

But conversely, communists may make police STAND UP in roles that are not actually theirs.

What communists are doing here, is making police act as “judge, jury, and executioner”, by confiscating arms before there is any proof to a DUE PROCESS that there is justification for doing so.

This is a corruption of the role of the police. This is JUST LIKE the way that communists under Obama corrupted the military and NASA, abusing their purposes instead of simply closing them down, which would be too obvious.

Worse still, this corruption leads to the NEXT problem with “red flag” laws.

4. Red flag drives a wedge between police and gun owners.

Red flag laws will not only drive a wedge between citizens and police – THEY ARE DESIGNED TO DO EXACTLY THAT.

Why? Because BOTH law enforcement AND gun owners support Trump. Because law enforcement AND gun owners typically RESPECT each other.

Red flag laws are designed to WEAKEN the bonds of respect between law enforcement and gun owners.

Red flag laws are designed to cause DIVISION between Trump supporters.

Sneaky, isn’t it?

3. Red flag laws drive a wedge between police and veterans.

Veterans will be particularly hard-hit by accusations of “unworthiness” due to the Democrat “false offering” of PTSD. Communists in the Democrat Party offered and promoted PTSD self-categorization to veterans PRECISELY so that they could eventually have their guns taken away. It was a long-term, patient plan, but it worked like crazy, and it is coming to fruition now.

I’m not saying PTSD isn’t real. Trust me. I know it’s real. But HOW that reality is integrated into society is what we are talking about. The PTSD category can be ABUSED.

MUCH propaganda has been deployed here. Watching it has been very educational.

The fact is, political leveraging of PTSD by gun-grabbing communists will create suspicions between veterans and police. Obama and Eric Holder could not be happier about this result.

And this leads to my next reason.

2. Red flag drives a wedge between doctors and patients.

Patients are already NOT being honest with their doctors about their medical status and gun ownership because of Obamacare and its sneaky socialist spying and judging. But you haven’t seen anything yet.

Under red flag laws, doctors will basically become “the enemy”. They, and their nurses and assistants, will be deprived of any information that could possibly result in a red flag complaint – once people realize that their information is not safe.

Trust me – HIPAA is BULLSHIT that is completely orthogonal to what Deep State needs to target patriots. Deep State can work around it in a heartbeat. How do I know this?

It’s DROP TIME.

I caught my doctor being used in a test run of a deep state scam against gun owners. I believe that my doctor was INNOCENT in the process – I believe they were deceived and USED. But I had some WARNING on what would happen, and was completely ready for the various steps of the process. It all happened like clockwork, exactly as predicted. It was a very beautiful scam, and will work against almost any patriot.

The key step is something that is outside of the “fake science” we are allowed to know, but that I know because of my unique background and some basic theoretical reasoning. It’s nothing “woo-woo” – it’s just been suppressed by Fake News. It’s horrifyingly real, but we were allowed to be “Eloi” for the “Morlocks”.

And the WORST PART is that this scam will sync right up with red flag laws, as I expect they are supposed to work, if we allow them to pass.

I’m not ready to go public with the details, but – well – let’s just leave it at that. I have hinted about it before, and the White Hats “have it all”. Maybe somebody else will drop the full bomb. That might cause a wee bit of scrambling, so I leave that choice to higher powers.

Fun times.

And now, the most insidious of all.

1. Red flag is designed to push Trump’s voters off social media.

This is perhaps the most profound realization I’ve had so far.

This goes straight to interfering in the 2020 election. And every election after that.

It’s bad enough that free speech is going to be stifled in real life by red flag laws. But social media? Our ONE WAY of working around the Fake News? Gun owners will FLEE.

They know this. Our enemies know this. Trump’s enemies know this.

“CHYYYNNA” knows this. They know this will kill Trump’s support online.

Which brings me to the last, EXTRA, and final reason red flag laws are a bad idea.

0. Red flag is a key part of China’s conquest of the Pacific.

By neutralizing America in the same way that they neutralized New Zealand and Australia – taking away the speech of its enemies – China will become the dominant force in the Pacific first, and the World later. Censorship of opposing viewpoints through gun laws was a way to take down opposition without firing a shot. China leveraged GUNS against SPEECH and it worked.

Well, almost.

American Farmers Tell China – We're with Trump!

You can only push Americans so far before they narrow their eyes, set their jaw, start to bristle, and fight back. Farmers are among the most stout and determined of all Americans. China picked the wrong fight, attacking American farmers to purposefully diminish Trump’s support…. hoping for a weaker and more accomodating President in the USA….. like our past Presidents. China made a grave miscalculation. The farmers are not moving. In fact, they’ve stiffened their resolve.
See this guy below, that’s my Daddy’s Daddy’s Daddy, Great Grandpa D. In his hands is IOWA Corn. He came from Belgium at age 3, and worked for John Deere for 54yrs. I have his 35yr pin and his 50yr pin on my charm bracelet. China wouldn’t have stood a chance with men like Grandpa D.

Apparently, the farmers of today feel the same way. The Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture has finished their latest survey of Farmer Sentiment. ( Link )
Keep in mind, this is a PURDUE survey, not some survey from an ivory tower think tank with a predetermined outcome. Purdue is the “Harvard” for pragmatic Mid-Westerners. Daddy went to Purdue (so it must be true….).
Farmer confidence in the AG economy is SOARING. You wouldn’t know it if you watched the MSM, but the numbers don’t lie. Overwhelmingly, farmers believe the trade skirmish with China will be worked out in a way which benefits the USA. In fact, in the month of July, even after devastating spring floods, the farmer expectations index went to a measure of 159, a two year high Link , which is 18 points HIGHER than the month of June Link
Why are they so positive? It’s President Donald Trump. They turned the vote in Iowa for him. They know he’s not backing down when it comes to China. Trump’s popularity is actually INCREASING with farmers.

A Farm Journal Pulse survey conducted last month showed that 79 percent of farmers now approve of the job the president is doing, up from 74 percent in the June survey. Fifty-three percent said they “strongly approve” of President Trump, up from 50 percent in June.

Yes it’s true, President Trump is using some of the tariff money to help out our farmers while China tries to toy with our economy. Yet, President Trump is not having it. He stands with the farmers 100%

As they have learned in the last two years, our great American Farmers know that China will not be able to hurt them in that their President has stood with them and done what no other president would do – And I’ll do it again next year if necessary!

Breitbart’s article ( Link ) takes us to the USDA Farm Income Report ( Link ) Once we parse through the bureaucratic “inflation adjusted” legalese, we learn cash “farm” income is up between 5% – 9.7% for this year, across all regions, and profits from farm activities are up about 10% (6.3 billion).

Farmer are starting to get ahead again, finally. Again, from the USDA report linked above, ” Median farm household income is forecast to reach $78,987 in 2019. In nominal terms, that income level represents an increase of 3.6 percent from its 2018 level; in inflation-adjusted terms, it is a 1.9-percent increase. ” Also, equipment assets rose by about 30 billion, and total farm assets are up 44.6 billion to a grand total of 3.1 TRILLION dollars (which also includes about a 2% rise in the value of real estate = land value).

Spring was tough this year in the heartland. We have a few problems with debt taken on by our farmers and cash available for working capital, but with the foul spring weather and China trade issues providing headwinds, it SHOULD be far worse. But it’s not.
President Trump allotted 12 Billion dollars to farmers last year to ease the tension and 16 billion this year. Everyone knows farmers would rather work than take a subsidy, but the situation is extraordinary – we’re fighting a 40yr old problem which was ignored by our past leaders.

In preparing this post, I looked through dozens and dozens of videos about President Trump/Farmers/China. I found a massive effort by CNBC, Bloomberg, CBS Today Show, and other MSMs to get a single farmer on camera to say they were abandoning President Trump and felt betrayed. If the MSM found one such farmer, the video was pushed.
And then I found this little nugget, which told me everything we need to know.
Here is an amazing video from Missouri, with only 1600 views. Title of the video is “Missouri farmers support Trump, despite tariffs”. You won’t believe it….. The video was made by an outfit called CGTN (China Global Television Network). Take a look, at the lower chyron, which says, “CGTN is funded in whole or in part by the Chinese government”.

It must really stink for China, to pay for propaganda, and still have the farmers supporting President Trump. Maybe China should have invested in MSNBC or CNN? They do a much better job disparaging President Trump, but I can’t imagine Grandpa D would have ever watched CNN. Nah…..
Yes, the Chinese have misjudged President Trump and his resolve. Former Presidents would have caved to China’s demands at the first sign of Tom Donahue in the WH driveway, or at the first 500 point drop on the DOW. Now, there is no way I’m going to give you a LINK to this garbage, or anything more ABOUT this crap. Most of all, there is no way I’m going to give you the TOXIC VIDEO ITSELF (which I have not watched, but from which I’ve seen the horrified reactions of multiple normal Americans, as well as their informed comments, like those of our dear Wheatie and Molly).

I spent YEARS working with dozens of Chinese spies in science and tech, and for the few Americans who actually know how to see into their psychological operations, they are a RICH source of information on how degradation and demoralization of Americans works. Sadly, they are very good at what they do, and it often takes YEARS to figure out their more subtle stuff.

Cunning, it is. VERY cunning. But how does Q put it? Oh, yes.

I’ve tried to put a finger on when things REALLY went bad in Hollywood, and I think I have figured it out.

It was when Nixon signed that idiot deal with China in 1972. Almost IMMEDIATELY, the nastiest and creepiest YOUTH-ORIENTED “Bad M / R for teens” films began to get easy “lift” past all forms of moral gate-keeping. Hollywood started LOSING all morality and began letting SCHLOCK rise to the top. The rating system fell apart at the theaters, despite the most earnest LIES that it was working.

Of course, there was much more going on, changing youth culture in the 1970s. The ChiComs were not the only actors here – maybe not even big ones, although I suspect that their BLACKMAIL HAND and certain ingenious forms of West Coast MK were already hard at work in Hollywood. Still, national demoralization is a complex web, and everything feeds into it. SIGNALS – even just the acquiescence to “let’s make a lot of money in China” morality – changed how everybody behaved. How everybody THOUGHT.

“AND” logic will serve you well here. MANY things were used to destroy “boomers”. It was not an “either / or” proposition.

One of the most significant forms of schlock in film was “justified ultra-violence” – a kind of drive-in blood porn that saturated Middle America, starting in the early 1970’s. While this was almost certainly the result of SOVIET cultural influence in Hollywood, it was undoubtedly CHINESE MONEY that began to move into the cheap end of Hollywood, pushing the WORST of the WORST. How it got there is probably a VERY interesting story.

If you look at the FIRST and MOST CLASSIC “anti-white, racially justified, let’s kill white rednecks for peace” movie – BILLY JACK (1971) – the concept and production history of which ran from roughly 1967 to 1971 and beyond, you can actually TRACK the preparation of the inflection point.

[SIDEBAR: I was once very shocked when a Chinese demoralization agent, in America in some kind of medical exchange program, launched into a spiel that might as well have come from Billy Jack himself. That should have been a tip right there, but I didn’t realize he was an asset until many years later. Like I said, they’re GOOD, and we were VERY stupid and naive back then.
Most of the preparation for Chinese support of communist memes in Hollywood was actually SOVIET influence. You can easily see the Soviet roots of American ANTIFA in Billy Jack. We know from both HISTORY and VYSOTSKY that there are very similar SOVIET roots in both German ANTIFA and American ANTIFA. Nonetheless, China has always driven a lot of wind into ANTIFA-supporting memes, not all of which they created. However, the ChiComs are very careful how they do it – they are generally much less obvious than Soviet cultural Marxist emigres.]

SO – I’m sure if people look, they will discover a PATTERN to both Soviet CULTURAL investments in Hollywood, and Chinese MONETARY investments in Hollywood.

But for our purposes, I want you to THINK about what is happening in Hollywood’s products that we consume (if we’re not careful).

CHINA can get Hollywood to take a tiny PATCH off an actor’s jacket in a movie because it offends them. A TINY PATCH. A SYMBOL THEY DON’T LIKE.

OH, but Hollywood will create and proudly put forward an entire movie which DEGRADES Americans of ALL KINDS in ways that border on the INSANE.

This is SOVIET and CHINESE MIND CONTROL over BOOMER HOLLYWOOD.

The Soviets and the ChiComs actually MKed the entire boomer generation, starting in the 1970s, into a kind of amazing self-and-other-disrespect, as teens watching paleo-ANTIFA-porn like Billy Jack, guilt-fests like Bless the Beasts and Children, and ancestral versions of The Hunt like Death Race 2000.

Using that leverage, THOSE “adult children” boomeroids crank out mega-schlock like The Hunt today.

So what are we going to do about it?

Well, I will come back to what I said before.

Allowing ANY investment by China in America’s self-image is stupid as hell.

I think that should be pretty obvious by now, but let’s be honest. It’s gonna take Hollywood a bit longer until they wake up in a drool pool on the floor of China’s fentanyl dungeon, and realize that they are in a whole heap of trouble.

Meanwhile, we at home can prepare the legislation that gives Hollywood the BITCHSLAP of reality that they need, before we get them into a MAGA methadone program.

We need TARIFFS on Chinese investment in ANYTHING that endangers America if sabotaged.

OH, MY, THAT’S A LONG LIST.

Yeah, think about it. But for starters. Hollywood should be off limits to Chinese money and influence as SOON as possible. Investment tariffs are just the beginning. All KINDS of Chinese influence, interference and SABOTAGE need to be punished SEVERELY with surtaxes and fines.

Raise the rates until the ChiCom money is just a trickle. Maybe less.

Welcome to your future, Hollywood. Your addiction to CHINESE MONOPOLY MONEY stolen from the paychecks of Middle America is about to END. Pretty soon, you may even hold down a REAL JOB.

Online Dating ~ Feast or Famine

While the Dems continue to behave badly, I thought I would spit out a few stories. This one has a happy ending. It’s a story about taking a chance, trusting your own instincts, and love.
Online dating can be a feast or famine experience. Our preconceived notions get in the way, part of the human condition. Sometimes, when we finally meet the person, we can be pleasantly surprised, or horrified. One thing is certain, there doesn’t seem to be a middle ground.
Because we are a B&B, we have hosted an unusually high number of these “first meetings”. You know me, I stay in the kitchen and mind my own business. Yet, the drama unfolds. Here’s my story.
I got a phone call from a young woman, super efficient, business type. She booked two rooms, both her and her girlfriend were meeting their online beaus for the first time. If things went well, the couples would share rooms. If things didn’t go well, then the girls would share rooms. Okay, fine. Memorial Day weekend, so they would be together for a while. My husband curled his eyebrow and said, “Could be an interesting weekend”.
Professional woman arrived first. She was great. She came straight from an office, dressed in a suit. She was rather rotund and homely, but strong and capable. She told me the other female would be a very late arrival…. Okay with me.
Professional woman went to pick up her guy at the airport and they returned. Other guy arrived in an upscale BMW with Texas plates. He was wearing cowboy boots.
One guy, her guy, was the “famine” side of online dating. He was from Oregon, couldn’t have been 5’2″, and she was quite tall. They looked odd together but hey, for every sock there is a sneaker. He made Pete Butegeig look like John Wayne. She was disappointed. I felt sorry for the guy.
The other guy made my toes curl. He was an international pipeline trouble shooter for Amoco, lived in Houston. Oh, ladies, that man had swagger and a twinkle in his eye. We couldn’t wait to see what his “match” would look like. Amoco guy was definitely “the feast” side of online dating.
The three went out for dinner, one girl still missing. She was working on her PhD in psych and volunteered for a suicide hot-line but could not get loose until late. I was in bed, fast asleep, …..left her a key.
Next morning, Amoco guy was up early with husband drinking coffee in the kitchen. They were sharing parts of the paper while I started breakfast. I broke the silence and finally asked him, “So, what do you think of her?” Amoco guy peered over the paper at my husband, knowing glance, and said, “Everything is good.” Well, gheez, I was hoping for a little more, but the guys weren’t talking. I was staring at him, looking for more details, and he said, “I think she will sleep in until late, don’t count on her for breakfast.” Well, she didn’t get here until almost 1:00am. I made adjustments to the egg count.
Professional woman and Oregon came down, had breakfast quickly and left to tour sites. I swear, she unrolled his napkin for him, but they seemed to be getting along quite well. They were on a tight schedule. Amoco guy was still sitting in the kitchen…. being a guy. He even helped me dry the breakfast dishes. What a gentleman.
About 10:30am, she appeared, still wearing her pajamas, and she looked like a goddess, about 5’10”, natural light blond, big blue eyes, and as my husband said, “the body of a Penthouse Pet”. She had just woken up, not a stitch of makeup, and was hunting for coffee. We all talked for a while, I liked her. She was “sweet” and “a good girl”. She went back upstairs to take a shower and get dressed. Amoco guy asked me if I could make them a picnic lunch……. he had something up his sleeve. I found a picnic basket and put together some sandwiches, fruit, and leftovers. He helped me like a member of the family, and off they went.
Oregon and biz chic returned mid-afternoon. It rained on them and Oregon guy looked like he was dragged behind the car the whole way home. He took a nap on a couch. Biz chic was reading a book when I went upstairs to make beds. The tone had turned = not good.
Amoco and the goddess did not return until after dark. About 9:30pm, I was getting ready for bed when Amoco knocked on the door to our section of the house. I had sweats on but came to the door. He said, “I need your help, can I talk to you for a minute?” I told him to come in and shut the door behind him. He was whispering.
So, there we were, standing in the middle of the laundry room, with my piles of sheets. He asked if I could make another picnic for them tomorrow. No problem, agreed. Then, he told me he needed an engagement ring. I put my hand back to brace myself on the dryer, “Are you sure you want to do this?”, I asked him. He nodded. I asked again. He was 110% sure. He struck me as the kind of man who knows what he wants.
Then, we thought about what to do. This isn’t Houston where the Galleria is open until 10:00pm and we could wander in and pick up a big diamond. Where were we going to get an engagement ring between 9:30pm on Saturday night and 10:00am on Sunday morning? In the middle of our little town?
He thought I had the answer.
He looked at me, like I could twitch my nose and make diamonds appear, like I did it all the time…… I started thinking. “Okay”, I said, “Obviously she will want to pick out her own ring, eventually. Southern women are very particular about comfort level of the wedding ring they will wear for the rest of their lives.” He agreed and was nodding. I continued, “So…., you really just need ‘a ring’, as a symbol of your intentions, …….. right?” He decided he could do that, and I was probably right, she would want to choose her own ring. Some women like a simple band, some want a big rock, etc. I told him I had my grandmother’s or my mom’s ring which he could borrow for the occasion.
We were digging in my jewelry box in the bathroom when my husband wandered in and said, “Are we having a party in the bathroom?” Guy moment. Amoco guy told husband he was proposing and I was helping. We left him in the bathroom and moved back to the laundry piles. He picked mom’s ring, and I was sworn to secrecy.
Next morning, big breakfast, everyone there. Biz chic and Oregon back to touring for the day. Amoco and goddess off to the countryside with another picnic. Amoco had the ring.
Amoco and goddess returned late afternoon. I heard nothing about the big event…. waiting…. waiting…… Biz chic and Oregon returned late. I was in the kitchen, cleaning up our dinner dishes, when the two girls burst through the door.
Huge discussion. Amoco had proposed to the goddess and she thanked me for the “temporary ring”. Biz chic was obviously the dominant friend and was counseling her on a “life-altering” decision. Was she sure? Did she want to wait to finish her PhD? Where would they live? What about HER career? Did she really want to move to Texas? What would her parents think? A million questions from biz chic. All through it, the goddess seemed very innocent, naive, pure, and true. She was a perfect stereotype of a “good girl”. I was quiet but I could tell, the business chic was making goddess uneasy about her decision to say “yes”.
Ever so casually, the goddess mentioned….. “Well, I need to decide because he is leaving on a job for 6 weeks in Greece and he wants me to go with him.”
I stopped washing dishes, straightened up, and said, …….”What did you say?”
Goddess: He wants to stay here for a few more days and get married so my folks could be here for the wedding and we can honeymoon in Greece. Or we could get married in Greece, but my folks would miss it. Or, we can stay engaged for a while (she shuffled her feet on the last option = big tell)
Biz chic (sensing she was losing her best friend): This is all too fast, he needs to slow down.
Goddess: (sad face) But we’ve known each other for a year, I love him.
Biz chic: You don’t know anything about him. (lots of frowning and scowling) What about your work?
Goddess: I volunteer, and I like to help people, but this is the man I love.
Goddess: (Exasperated and almost asking permission of the biz chic to have her own life. And then she said it. She hesitated and second guessed herself,) “I suppose there is no harm in a long engagement……”
Biz Chic: (Happy —- for herself.)
Me: (Waving my arms) Stop. Do you love this man and you’re sure he’s the one? (yes) Will your parents love him as much as you do?(yes) Will he be a wonderful husband and father?(yes)
I banged a pan on the counter and startled them both. I said, “Well then, when opportunity knocks, you need to open the damn door.”
Goddess: Beaming. It was what she wanted to do all along.
Me: Do you want your folks to be here? (Goddess nodding, yes) Then, we’re having a wedding. Call your folks.
She called from the kitchen phone. We had the wedding on Wednesday. It worked. Off they went to Greece.
They sent us Christmas cards for many years…….. six kids.
When the right one comes along, you know. Trust your instincts. Live a happy life and love that person 110%.
