Point number one. The same technology used to do radiometric dating, which always wants ratios of isotopes for its input numbers, can be used to do this oxygen-16/oxygen-18 measuring. Not dating but useful.
I wasn’t too happy with the depth and clarity of her explanation of precession of the equinoxes and its effects on seasons. I understood what she was saying here because I know what it is she left out.
In essence, present day, the Earth is closest to the Sun in January, which means the southern hemisphere will have more extreme summers and winters–during their winter the earth is further away from the Sun. 12000 years from now with the axis halfway through its precession, that same part of Earth’s orbit will be called “July”, the Northern hemisphere will face the Sun more directly, and the Northern hemisphere will have more intense summers and winters. (Anyone scratching their head because they think the Earth goes around the Sun in one year: Actually one year is the duration between two spring equinoxes and is slightly less than the amount of time it takes for the Earth to make exactly one 360 degree circuit about the sun, because the point at which equinox occurs is moving, because precession.)
I think she wanted to avoid an astronomical geek-out, but she could have added some more explanation – maybe just 30-60 seconds – and it would have helped.
Point Two (starts at 15:55, ends at 26:17) Soft animal tissue found in fossils is actually evidence precluding YEC from being possible: I never realized the soft tissue issue (hah I made a rhyme) is actually good evidence against young earth, because it was a surprise find rather than ubiquitous; it’s not that it was found, it’s that it isn’t found a LOT.
Not to mention that chemical durability in fossils is an excellent metric of age, and it’s pointing to both GREAT AGE and REAL ORIGIN (as well as geological conditions, but that’s a new door opening up).
To me, the continuity of fossil content change with age is both MUCH more reasonable than universal replacement in all older fossils, and deeply damning to YEC.
This is a point where a generalization should be made.
When science finds a truth in between two extremes (which happens all the time) by embracing some next level of complexity, properly functioning science moves its baseline to accept that complexity. In this particular case, it’s not that “fossils should be original matter” or “fossils should be replacement images” – it’s a continuum of both that reflects age. It’s profound, and really, really breaks YEC. The almost microchemical nature of the original remnants in dinosaur-era fossils is like a clock that says “millions of years, buddy.”
If one’s response to this is not to embrace that new generality and the complexity which allows understanding, but rather to go looking for a new weakness that bolsters either extreme, one is not actually practicing science – one is simply kicking science’s tires. And while there is some virtue in that, going off to find and kick what is now simply a less irrelevant tire, is not going to get one to the truth very fast.
And yet, science is robust BECAUSE such tire-kicking only makes the actual results stronger.
YEC just keeps hitting itself with boomerangs and ricochets, as the targets become harder to hit, and stiffer in their bounce when they are hit.
I will bet there are some new (but very complex) molecular clocks to be found in this phenomenon. They will only serve to tighten up the [great] ages of things.
This is true…but could be argued against in a way that might resonate with the general public (the YE Creationists’ real audience since they know real scientists won’t ever be convinced). The public can understand, however, when you point out that this is RARELY found. If the same age as (say) mammoth remains, why don’t we find all kinds of original tissue in dinosaurs then, as we do with mammoths? It’s the rarity of the find that makes the more easily understood argument.

Major problems.
I spent the last 2 weeks doctoring my 2 ponies. That ate up a lot of time. Thank goodness that is finished, and they are OK. I just have to apply the aloe vera so the healing completes with hair growing back and no ugly scars on the faces.
This weekend the tranny went out on my spare truck 50 miles from home while hauling a trailer to a party. The good news is it died in a Walmart/McDonald’s parking lot and a Korean War vet stopped. He called his step son who hauled the trailer to the party. Hauled the trailer home and then went back and hauled the dually home. I really really love living in the south where people are so helpful!
My primary truck is still waiting on a part. However my neighbor lent me a truck for a Daycare party on Tuesday and said I can continue using it until we earn the money to pay for the new tranny for the dually or we get the part for my 3/4 ton truck.
Than goodness for great neighbors!
On top of that my friend has tons of doctor’s appointments and no drivers lic. so I am playing taxi.
One of these years I will get to my TO DO list. At least my health is still good thanks to the QTree!

Okay, for those that don’t know. We have already surpassed the current debt limit due to spending already approved during Biden’s term.
Sec Yellen said it would be reached back in Jan 2025. The freedom clowns wouldn’t increase the debt limit with the CR back in Dec and saddled Trump with a debt limit that had already/would shortly be reached as he entered office. They did that on purpose to box in Trump from having bills for immigration and deportationsnas single issue bills. Remember the debate over one or two bills? Yeah, see how that works.
But thanks to a good tax season, tarrifs, some fancy footwork by Sec bessent, a total freeze on hiring/spending, lay offs, doge cuts, etc, we have been able to avoid defaulting. Surprising the swamp critters, but the end is in sight, and now it’s thought Aug 2025 will be when we can no longer pay our bills due to the fake debt limit, and we default or go hat in hand to the dems.
So those making the argument that we don’t need to raise the debt limit are either uninformed or liars.
If you remove the debt limit increase from the BBB, the Senate will have to get dem votes to increase it before Aug since it would then require 60 votes.
Getting those votes will further derail the MAGA agenda as they will demand a price for their votes. Do you understand how the swamp works now?
There’s zero possibility that the debt limit won’t be increased. It will.
The only question is, do we do it now and not worry about it for the next 4 years, or do we pay the price the dems/swamp will demand and give up much of the maga agenda?

It is unconstitutional for the fed govt to default on its bonds and notes [it’s called full faith and credit shall not be questioned]. So anything to do with bonds gets paid from funds coming into the Treasury [which is a constant but variable flow].
Next is SSA, SSI, VA benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
Everything else is discretionary and subject to priority of payments. If there aren’t enough funds in Treasury, those obligations get paid as funds come in. You can imagine the ‘pushing and shoving’ as each snout tries to get to the trough.

Then Filly called me…Yup she’s down all right… They are worried about an ulcer and she is worried about all her bills adding up! She sure misses everybody!

Oh dear…that’s what happened to my son Josiah w/ the unexplained GI bleed requiring 2 units of blood. I hope they are keeping tabs on Filly’s (red blood cell?) count that is supposed to be 12, iirc. In Josiah’s case his count was at 7 & they were concerned. A couple of “hats” full of mostly bloody “stool” & the numbers went to 5.8 then 5.4 & that’s when they said he Really Needed Blood or he might be dead, 70% chance, in 2 days.
I’m not saying At All that this is what’s happening with Filly but it was our recent experience so I hope that all signs of her status are being monitored, in case things might change on a dime.

SCOTUS Unanimously Rules in Favor of Woman Alleging Anti-Heterosexual Discrimination — Massive Blow to DEI

“The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously struck down a legal standard that had made it harder for white, male, or heterosexual employees to bring workplace discrimination claims, marking a landmark decision that threatens to undercut the legal foundation of many diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices.
The high court struck down a legal test created and employed by certain lower courts since the 1980s called the “background circumstances rule” which requires a heightened evidentiary standard for members of so-called “majority groups” in discrimination cases. In an opinion penned by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the Supreme Court decided that the background circumstances rule is incompatible with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which bars employers from intentionally discriminating against employees on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
“As a textual matter, Title VII’s disparate-treatment provision draws no distinctions between majority-group plaintiffs and minority-group plaintiffs,” Jackson wrote. “Rather, the provision makes it unlawful ‘to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual’s race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.’ The law’s focus on individuals rather than groups is anything but academic.”
“By establishing the same protections for every ‘individual’ — without regard to that individual’s membership in a minority or majority group — Congress left no room for courts to impose special requirements on majority-group plaintiffs alone,” she continued. “Our precedents reinforce that understanding of the statute.”
The case surrounds Marlean Ames, a heterosexual woman who had worked for the Ohio Department of Youth Services since 2004 and was originally hired to work as an executive secretary. Ames was eventually promoted to program administrator and applied for a management position in 2019. Ultimately, the agency hired a different candidate, a lesbian woman, to fill the role. A few days later, Ames was demoted back to her secretarial role with a significant pay cut, and the agency hired a gay man to fill her administrator position.
Ames subsequently filed a lawsuit against the agency until Title VII, alleging that she was denied the management promotion and demoted because of her sexual orientation.

A district court sided with the Ohio Department of Youth Services, concluding that Ames failed to provide evidence of “background circumstances” that she was being discriminated against as a member of a “majority group” — a heterosexual. The Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit affirmed the lower court’s decision.
Conservative-leaning Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a concurring opinion joined by Justice Neil Gorsuch, admonishing lower court judges who essentially legislate from the bench.
“I write separately to highlight the problems that arise when judges create atextual legal rules and frameworks. Judge-made doctrines have a tendency to distort the underlying statutory text, impose unnecessary burdens on litigants, and cause confusion for courts. The ‘background circumstances’ rule — correctly rejected by the Court today — is one example of this phenomenon,” Thomas wrote.
“The ‘background circumstances’ rule plainly contravenes that statutory command by imposing a higher burden on some individuals based solely on their membership in a particular demographic group. This rule is a product of improper judicial lawmaking,” he added.
Thomas asserted that courts who have employed the background circumstances rule have “offered no guidance on how to decide whether a particular person is a member of the ‘majority.”‘
“Instead, judges have been left to their own devices to make these challenging determinations. Most courts appear to have sidestepped these difficulties by abandoning the search for neutral principles and instead assuming that the ‘background circumstances’ rule applies only to white and male plaintiffs,” he observed.
Thomas additionally said the high court should consider scrapping the broader legal test from which the background circumstances rule is derived, called the McDonnell Douglas framework. The Supreme Court established the three-pronged test in 1973 for workplace discrimination claims that rest on circumstantial evidence.
“The Court today assumes without deciding that the McDonnell Douglas framework is an appropriate tool for making that determination. But, the judge-made McDonnell Douglas framework has no basis in the text of Title VII. And, as I have previously explained, lower courts’ extension of this doctrine into the summary-judgment context has caused significant confusion and troubling outcomes on the ground,” Thomas wrote.
“In an appropriate case, this Court should consider whether the McDonnell Douglas framework is an appropriate tool to evaluate Title VII claims at summary judgment,” he continued.
The Supreme Court did not rule on the merits of Ames’s discrimination claims, instead remanding the case for further litigation in a lower court.
The Supreme Court’s ruling comes as the Trump administration hacks away at the roots of DEI in the federal government and corporate America — standards which have resulted in hiring based on racial and sexual-orientation quotas, trainings, policies, and initiatives espousing the supposed pervasiveness of white supremacy in all of America’s institutions, and the overall demonization of white, heterosexual individuals.”

I had a problem a while back that was based on my computer’s clock getting off-sync.
Anything interfering with scripts in the browser on the device can interfere with “liking”. I find that it only affects certain comments – not all of them – and only for a limited amount of time. But that’s my case. Every browser out there, interferes with scripts now. Every privacy add-on, extension, and product (even operating system) interferes with scripts now. It’s a mess. It’s not something I can “fix” or advise on, other than telling people to “enable scripts” or “drop shields” – which many are not going to do.

I have to tell y’all about my day, if for nothing more than a warning for anyone else who goes through it.
I went to the hospital to pick up DH this morning. All good. He’s walking on a walker, doing PT, etc.
They give us a bunch of instructions, and tell us that we need to pick up his pain meds and other medications from our pharmacy right away, as he would be needing another dose just about the time he got home. They were adamant that I go get them ASAP, so the pain wouldn’t have a chance to increase.
So, I settled him in at home and off to the pharmacy I went. Only to be told, no, sorry, we have to have PRE-APPROVAL for all of these from worker’s comp!
I blew a gasket. Seriously, once pain sets in, it is hard to manage. You have to stay ahead of it.
We had to call the worker’s comp person assigned to his case, leave a message, wait for her to call back, and then for her to call the pharmacy and get the ball rolling. Then I had to go back to the damned pharmacy.
Seriously, wouldn’t you think that the hospital and/or surgeon would realize this ahead of time? Maybe order the meds the day BEFORE they will be needed?
What the hell is wrong with people anymore? NOBODY seems competent to do much of anything right. There’s inevitably some fuck up, problem, glitch, whatever. With everything. Sheesh.

I don’t know if they are aware, but they will be when I am done. It’s ridiculous for them to tell you to be sure to take a medicine as soon as you get home, if you can’t even get your hands on it because it wasn’t ordered early enough.

It’s so frustrating. What I’m seeing more and more is that the consumer, (client, patient, etc.), has to be on top of everything, even things that are someone else’s job. Health care is a mess, and a big issue is that people aren’t aware of all the things that could come up, as happened in your case. If you had known that no one was taking care of getting the meds on time, you would have taken steps yourself.

I didn’t realize the extent of it, even though I myself have been shouting from the rooftops that we have to be responsible for our own healthcare. But who in the world would think to start demanding that meds be prescribed far enough in advance for the bureaucracy to do its grind?

I’ve had such bad experiences with pain medications (brief usage after dental, etc.) that I hope to never need it again. And I’ve seen how they are essential in some situations as well. I do understand how important it is to get on top of pain management.

This links to a Rumble video (and I’m only partway in). Bannon is speaking calmly, but he thinks Trump should go scorched earth (my impression) on Musk. Bannon thinks Trump should sign an EO and seize SpaceX tonight. He mentions a NYTimes report that Musk uses drugs and says that should be invetigated and that possibly Musk shouldn’t have a security clearance. He says that someone talking the way Musk is is a threat to national security. He also thinks Musk is an illegal alien and if so, he should be deported. Still watching…
Elon is smart.
He’s used to high pressure.
However, Elon doesn’t get enough sleep.
And he plays a lot of mind bending video games.
I haven’t seen one person call for Christians to pray for his soul.
I know someone that felt called to pray for him daily.
That person passed away a few months ago.
Maybe it’s time for some of us to pick up that mantle, so to speak.
May God deliver us from distractions, pride and any other foolishness.

This Bannon talk is no good. Using the power of the government against your opponent is what they did to Trump. Bannon may have reason to have contempt for the rule of law, but his advice is just bad.

I remember seeing something about this a few weeks ago. I thought someone, maybe Trump, was taking action to stop it.
That should help him run in 2028.
All he has to do is create the “appearance” of popularity.
With election cheating, that is all any politician anywhere in the world has to do.
This guy can’t win.
His base is deranged and when he tries to move towards center they torch him.
