that photo bothers me for several reasons, but the biggest is the clothing. I don’t know of any hospital that would allow a patient to wear a long sleeved button down shirt and jeans. Especially given the turtle’s history.
And if the pneumonia has cleared, why not do the physical therapy at home? I broke my leg and ankle and didn’t need to remain the hospital for weeks for physical therapy.

I made my teenage boys watch it a few times, too.
They would take a group of completely average-looking, sometimes actually plain-looking, young women, apply hours of makeup, air-brushing (literally ON them), lighting, designer clothing, and professional photographers, and come up with maybe ONE photograph like you would see in Vogue, or other fashion mag.
It was illuminating, to say the least. All of that is what makes those magazine women look like they do. Otherwise, they look like the ones you live next door to, or see in the grocery store.
I’ve seen brides do that for their weddings.
I made a serious faux pax once. a friend from high school and I met at a store and decided on lunch the next day and she said she was going to bring some wedding photos. She was always lovely, but at the wedding? she looked stunning and perfect. Then she showed me a photo of her and her new hubby on the beach somewhere and i scowled and asked…who’s Tom hanging out with…it’s your honeymoon?

When I was younger, I observed that (in the reality sphere) men lose their judgment around two kinds of beautiful women.
The first are the ones who rely on cosmetics, exercise, clothing, etc., to enhance themselves, into daily beauty that leans hard toward those non-real women you’re talking about.
The second are women who “groom hard”, exercise, etc., but rely on natural beauty, and use almost zero “products”. Nevertheless, they make themselves stand out. Men will gaggle around such women, too, but typically in different contexts.
I think it’s just a built-in, that men lose logic at a certain point with women, and women are capable of doing it. And it’s not just at the “most beautiful” levels that we see in the magazines. I always find it funny but heart-warming when “low-integer” guys fall like meteors for some “low-integer” gal who – to them – is suddenly the most beautiful woman in the world. That’s excellent design!

In my experience, people in rehab who are able are encouraged to get dressed every day, even when they don’t want to, because they need to get into the mindset of getting up, moving, and preparing to go back into the world.
As for PT at home, also in my experience, there is specialized equipment that one can’t access at home. If one is getting therapy of different kinds several times a day, that would be difficult to do at home.
oh absolutely get dressed, but i don’t think the turtle wears jeans at home–just my opinion–golf pants? old man casual ants? sure. jeans? i can’t see it.

I am what would technically be considered a “boomer,” but I am Gen X to the bone. I was born Nov. 25, 1964. BUT, my parents were very young, so they were Boomers, not Silent Generation, like many parents of Gen X. See what I mean?
If you were born in 1965 to parents born in 1935, you would be parented very differently than someone born in 1964 to parents born in 1946.
Also, geography plays a role. A kid raised in Berkeley is going to be culturally really different from a kid raised in Atlanta, or Dallas.
It’s just not as simple as blocks of years. It’s a good generalization, but there is some nuance there.

Sort of. They are next door neighbors and have adopted us. L’s grandma died a few years ago and his wife’s uncle (across the street) who raised her, just died a few months ago.

Cardiac Events Potentially Associated to Remdesivir: An Analysis from the European Spontaneous Adverse Event Reporting System
Abstract
Remdesivir was recommended for hospitalized patients with COVID-19. As already reported in the Summary of Product Characteristics, most of remdesivir’s safety concerns are hepatoxicity and nephrotoxicity related. However, some cases have raised concerns regarding the potential cardiac events associated with remdesivir; therefore, the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency requested to investigate all available data. Therefore, we analyzed all Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) collected in the EudraVigilance database focusing on cardiac adverse events. From April to December 2020, 1375 ICSRs related to remdesivir were retrieved from EudraVigilance, of which 863 (62.8%) were related to male and (43.3%) adult patients. A total of 82.2% of all AEs (N = 2604) was serious and one third of the total ICSRs (N = 416, 30.3%) had a fatal outcome. The most frequently reported events referred to hepatic/hepatobiliary disorders (19.4%,), renal and urinary disorders (11.1%) and cardiac events (8.4%). Among 221 cardiac ICSRs, 69 reported fatal outcomes. Other drugs for cardiovascular disorders were reported as suspected/concomitant together with remdesivir in 166 ICSRs (75.1%), 62 of which were fatal. Moreover, the mean time to overall cardiac event was 3.3 days (±2.2). Finally, disproportionality analysis showed a two-fold increased risk of reporting a cardiac adverse event associated with remdesivir compared to both hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. This study showed that remdesivir could be associated to risk of cardiac events, suggesting a potential safety signal which has not been completely evaluated yet. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings.

The duties of children and parents. (1-4) Of servants and masters. (5-9) All Christians are to put on spiritual armour against the enemies of their souls. (10-18) The apostle desires their prayers, and ends with his apostolic blessing. (19-24)
1-4 The great duty of children is, to obey their parents. That obedience includes inward reverence, as well as outward acts, and in every age prosperity has attended those distinguished for obedience to parents. The duty of parents. Be not impatient; use no unreasonable severities. Deal prudently and wisely with children; convince their judgements and work upon their reason. Bring them up well; under proper and compassionate correction; and in the knowledge of the duty God requires. Often is this duty neglected, even among professors of the gospel. If you thought TR was a hard-right Conservative and went in thinking that, I guess you could have this guy’s experience. But if you know anything about TR, the Library reflects him pretty well.
TR was a complicated man. He wasn’t a one-dimensional character. He was very much a “can do” individualist, and he thought others should be, too. But he also was aware of the possible evils inherent in Big Capitalism. People have to remember that Roosevelt’s day had the robber barons of the mines and railroads. Those guys were not very kind to the American worker. People today have no idea of the working conditions people used to have to endure. It’s unlikely we today would last long working an 1890’s railroad or factory job.
