Dear KAG: 2021-03-26: The Great Wakee Wakee Edition

JOE BIDEN IS A TOOL, and not a very sharp one.

It’s We-Don’t-Suffer-Fools-Gladly Friday at Wolf’s Pub. Oh, I hope the Meme Magic is strong today and we can soundly and roundly mock the Swamp Things in D.C. They richly deserve it.

It’s just got to be said over and over and over again:
Joe Biden Didn’t Win!

He’s a fraud

He’s a fake

He’s a phony fool

The Resident of the United States is such an embarrassment to the Cabal (whichever hydra head you want to refer to) that they are undoubtedly regretting him–especially if he’ll be running for reelection in 2024 (!!!) as he insisted yesterday. But, there’s an even deeper embarrassment—Heels Up Harris. This was the best they could do? The tools are nowhere near as useful as the weekly Tool Man (h/t to Valerie and her son).

Goodness, who are they gonna get for Harris’ fake role of VP if she does manage to blow her way through into His Fraudulency’s throne room?

We can only imagine.

It’s a grand show these vain, corrupt and very malicious people are putting on for us, eh?

INSANITY REIGNS WHILE LIFE GOES ON

Meanwhile, our daily lives gallop on. At least mine seems to gallop on. We don’t know the ending of the show, but it is probably wise to stay in top form in light of the uncommon times we are living in. Life in the time of Covid-2019, Covid-2020, and now Covid-2021 is getting a bit monotonous.

I BEG YOU to listen to (AND SHARE) Holocaust survivor Vera Sharav’s interview about how the medical establishment and the Corporate Elite in Nazi Germany (and internationally) joined with the Nazis to DO HARM and how our own government and medical establishment is doing this with Covid-19 now. She is warning us. It has come around again.

Click to watch: Where All Of This Is Heading

Note: Here is a link to an investigative piece Sharav mentions: Schwab Family Values. It shares a lot of what has been scrubbed from the net about Uncle Klaus and his background/family.

IN THE GARDEN

Excellent books for planning to thrive in hard times

One’s thinking can get a bit stunted at times. I tend to get obsessed with certain political issues and forget that “The world is so full of a number of things, I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings,” to quote Robert Louis Stevenson .

To that end, I’ve been forcing myself offline a bit more. I’m tending more to my mental and physical garden. Someone said here the other day that they had invested in a stationary bike and cut sugar out. That really got me thinking about my own extended response to the political crisis we are being forced to endure. One thing I love about the Qtree is the great deal of wisdom I find here.

I have learned more about so many things just by reading the comments. Lots of subject matter experts, lots of life experience. Very grateful.

ON TO THE HOUSE RULES

You know the drill. We’re all growing together in this garden plot, so we might as well get along. Some of us are veggies, some are fruits, some are nuts, some are mushrooms. I self-identify as a nut. Anyway, here’s the Rules that keep us growing together. The Utree is for off-color, off-site stuff, and a place of refuge in case something happens here.

A LIBERAL LIBATION OF LIQUEUR

Speaking of nuts, today’s special is amaretto, a liqueur that tastes of almonds, although it’s made with apricot kernel oil. Disaronno is a favorite and probably the most familiar amaretto in America. The lovely and liquid amaretto liqueur dates back to the Renaissance, and according to legend:

“As legend has it, amaretto was first created back in The Renaissance by a beautiful young innkeeper in Saronno, Italy. In 1525, the citizens of Saronno were completing the reconstruction of their city which was hit hard by war. Bernardino Luini (a member of the Leonardo da Vinci School of Art) was commissioned by the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Saronno to paint a fresco of the Adoration of the Magi, which included the Madonna.

Luini, passionate about his work and art, went on a lengthy search for the perfect model to represent his Madonna. He found that looking for someone who was patient, poised and beautiful was an arduous task until he first laid his artistic glance on the fair-haired innkeeper.

It was only a matter of time before the young innkeeper fell deeply and passionately in love with the artist. Her love was so deep that she created a special potion for her lover: amaretto. Unfortunately, the young innkeeper’s name has been lost, but her likeness and amaretto recipe lives on.”

Amaretto (“A little bitter” in Italian) has been used in Italian cuisine for centuries, such as the famous Italian cake “Tiramisu.” You can read more about it here. And above’s a recipe for a delicious Amaretto Sour. Don’t let the egg white deter you, these are really tasty cocktails.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?

Back to tending our own gardens in this time of upheaval. Vox Day has published a short post (in full below) that says just that. I love it when I get these little confirmations. I started this article on Tuesday and Vox’s article shows up on Wednesday.

Those who were previously just bystanders are beginning to find it invigorating:

I used to just listen to people talking about what’s happening, but once you said “conflict is in the air we breath,” as well as once I heard Owen talk about crushing, creating…I just started focusing on building a community vs fear-porn watching and being paralyzed by the temptations from Satan and the material world.  Now I’ve got more friends than I have ever had before, who have homesteads, growing food, and truly care about the future of our community. Going from sterile sodomite land to where I’m at now… it’s awesome.

It’s the only way to make it to the next level. Start small, by leaving a review of a book on Amazon or buying an ebook from an author you haven’t read before. Later, perhaps you’ll start subscribing to UATV or starting a garden or getting on SG. Before long, you’ll be backing new projects, learning about the law, collecting leatherbound tomes for your future grandchildren, and making a material impact on the world around you.

One step. One breath. One dive into the waters of conflict. That’s all it takes to begin the transformation. That’s all it takes to belatedly discover that you weren’t created to be a penguin waddling about the sterile ice in squawking confusion, you were created to be a killer whale, roving the seas as part of a fearsome pack.”

I use old forms to make new raised beds. Then do it over and over. I have made eight new beds this spring.

Are we not seeing a Great Awakening?

On Thursday morning’s War Room, Steve Bannon and Sean Feucht (author and founder of Let Us Worship), spoke about the Great Awakening as a great shaking of the world, Episode #825, the last 30 minutes or so. No matter what I do, I can’t get it to embed. Haloooo, Wolf!

https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-qjmv5-fed31a

MIGHTY MILO MAKES IT BACK

AND, here we have Milo Yiannopolous with his own Great Awakening. I remember being very grateful for Milo’s contribution to “Daddy” Trump getting elected. He’s a brilliant thinker, but I also saw he was headed for a bit of trouble. God, however, is turning it to good. In this interview he speaks of his own coming to terms with the sin of sodomy, and how he is taking his awakening one day at a time.

https://youtu.be/6BNZbEOwi7w

He also details how both the RINOs and the Left worked to destroy him, cancel him, ruin him financially. Please keep Milo in your prayers. His future plans include helping others to come out of the gay lifestyle. He is a potent enemy to the Left, and therefore under attack by both spiritual and material forces.

My own Great Awakening, besides the horrendous but needed understanding of our current political situation, has meant that I feel compelled to learn, appreciate, and pass on the truth, beauty, and goodness of our western civilization, which as we know, is in danger of being snuffed out.

Anyway, I bought myself (decades late) Mortimer J. Adler’s “How to Read a Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading.”

Adler includes an appendix with a listing of what has been called the Great Books. There are 137 books on the list. Dare I dive in and begin this literary journey exploring Western Civilization’s canon?

I DARE.

If anyone else is interested, I am more than happy to start a little reading club (maybe a future Qtree forum would be a great place to have it). Here’s the list: Adler’s List of Great Books

Adler said:

“A good book does reward you for trying to read it. The best books reward you most of all. The reward, of course, is of two kinds. First, there is the improvement in your reading skill that occurs when you successfully tackle a good, difficult work. Second—and this in the long run is much more important—a good book can teach you about the world and about yourself. You learn more than how to read better; you also learn more about life. You become wiser, Not just more knowledgeable—books that provide nothing but information can produces that result. But wiser, in the sense that you are more deeply aware of the great and enduring truths of human life.”

I WILL NEVER SURRENDER.

I am getting old. I will go to sleep with my forefathers sooner rather than later. I will not BETRAY them by cowering before the tyrants. And I damned sure won’t BETRAY my grandchildren by bowing down before CCP/globalist puppets, those dirty POS. I spit on them.

How many times do we have to do this?

Encouragement – Important?

B.b.S.s.Saint  March 17, 2021 at 12:27 pm

These days, a number of people are encouraged by communications from people they trust that appear to be supporting the concept that Biden is not really President and that President Trump and others are actively working behind the scenes to detect and develop evidence against a large number of people around the world who are involved with overthrowing the recent Presidential election (and other heinous activities).

A second group of people are convinced that the election is over and Biden is President and we, the voters, will have to become very active in determining which politicians really have America as first priority in their hearts and which are ready to cede American sovereignty to Globalists and Socialists for their own personal gain.

The second group generally thinks that the hope that stems from “encouraging signs” seen by the first group is unwarranted and irrational. The first group generally thinks that the second group does not value the “encouraging signs” seen by the first group and has an unwarranted pessimistic view of this situation. The “encouraging signs” not seen by the second group are valuable in supporting the hope for the present situation that is held by the first group.

In the current situation, the second group views the first group as being addicted to “Hopium”, an unwarranted and irrational hope for a means to a certain positive outcome. The first group views the second group as a bunch of “Debbie Downers” who can’t see the hopeful signs because of their pessimism.

The point of this discussion, so far, is to establish that within each group, encouragement of their point of view leads to hope on one hand, and a dedication to the hard work involved in ensuring a favorable result in the next election on the other hand. Encouragement is very important as a support for the hope that each group holds for a favorable outcome in the future.

Encouragement in our Christian lives is vastly more important as it leads to a bolstering of our faith to believe, think, speak and act in a manner that guards against failure in our Christian walk and moves it from immaturity toward maturity.

Vastly more important? In the worst case, those who have sampled the Christian life and then walked away from it are in danger of putting themselves in a position of being separated from God for eternity . . . a concept and a consequence of monumental importance. Encouragement or lack of encouragement can have a large impact on the possibility of this eternal outcome.

Marica  March 15, 2021 at 8:21 pm

Why is encouragement in our Christian walk so important according to the Bible?”

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness,” Hebrews 3:13 tells us. First Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” Throughout the Bible we see instructions to encourage one another and verses that are meant to encourage us. Why is encouragement emphasized in the Bible? Primarily because encouragement is necessary to our walk of faith.

Jesus told His followers, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b). Jesus did not shy from telling His followers about the troubles they would face. In fact, He told them the world would hate them (John 15:18-21; see also Matthew 10:22-23 and 2 Corinthians 2:15-16). But Jesus’ grim forecast was tempered with cheer; He followed His prediction of trouble with a sparkling word of encouragement: He has overcome the world. Jesus is greater than any trouble we face.

Without encouragement, hardship becomes meaningless, and our will to go on wanes. The prophet Elijah struggled with discouragement (1 Kings 19:3-10), and so do we. It’s important to remember that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against . . . the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). This truth makes encouragement all the more important. It’s not just that we face the world’s displeasure; we are caught in the crosshairs of a spiritual battle. When we are encouraged in Christ, we have strength to put on our spiritual armor and remain steadfast (see Ephesians 6:10-18).

Even in places where Christians don’t experience overt persecution or hatred, we all know that life can be difficult. Discouragement isn’t an uncommon human experience. At times, recognizing that there’s meaning in the seemingly inconsequential things we do seems next to impossible. We may want to give up. Yet He who calls us is faithful, and He gives us the power to be faithful, too (1 Corinthians 1:9).

A man in the early church named Joseph was given the nickname “Barnabas,” which means “Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36). What a blessing Barnabas was to the believers of his day! Through the encouragement of Barnabas, the apostle Paul was first accepted by the church in Jerusalem (Acts 9:27). Through the encouragement of Barnabas, Mark was given a second chance after an abject failure (Acts 13:13; 15:39).

Encouragement makes it easier to live in a fallen world in a holy way. Encouragement makes it easier to love as Jesus loved (see John 13:34-35). Encouragement gives hope (Romans 15:4). Encouragement helps us through times of discipline and testing (Hebrews 12:5). Encouragement nurtures patience and kindness (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Galatians 5:22-26). Encouragement makes it easier to sacrifice our own desires for the advancement of God’s kingdom. In short, encouragement makes it easier to live the Christian life.

Without encouragement, life would soon feel pointless and burdensome. Without encouragement, we can be overwhelmed by the very real pains of our lives. Without encouragement, we feel unloved. Without encouragement, we begin to think that God is a liar or is unconcerned with our welfare. So, the Bible tells us to encourage one another, to remind each other of the truth that God loves us, that God equips us, that we are treasured, that our struggles are worth it.

Encouragement from the Bible gives us the will to carry on. It is a glimpse of the bigger picture. It can prevent burn-out. It can save us from believing lies (“sin’s deceitfulness”). Encouragement helps us experience abundant life (see John 10:10).

Proverbs 16:24 says, “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” God’s Word is full of encouragement. Pleasant words, indeed.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” Hebrews 10:24-25.

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” Hebrews 3:13.

“Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up” Romans 15:2.

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear” Ephesians 4:29.

“A Psalm for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations” Psalm 100:1-5.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” Philippians 4:8.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” Isaiah 43:2.

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,” Romans 15:5

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

What IS Hopium Anyway?

Based on some of the reactions to my post of two weeks ago, it became apparent that some people misconstrue where I’m coming from.

When I condemn hopium, am I condemning any and all hope? NO. It’s true that hopium is hope, but not all hope is hopium. So when I condemn hopium, I am not condemning hope as such only false and unfounded hope.

In fact, I wasn’t even dumping on all hopium two weeks ago. I was talking specifically of the kind that implies that at some date in the near future, all will suddenly become well, and more specifically, the speculation that names a date. (This is, by the way, something that Q never did, and I am aware of that yet I got criticized on that point as if I were going after Q for naming dates.)

A perfect example, someone posted a thing from John Solomon claiming the long-awaited indictments would be coming out in 4-6 weeks. That means, before the end of April. I have a couple of questions in all earnest to anyone who pays any attention to John Solomon.

  1. How many times has he promised the indictments would be coming in just a few weeks?
  2. How many times has he been right?
  3. Given the answers to 1 and 2, why in blazes is anyone still paying attention to this guy?

Or for that matter to ANY prognostication about a specific date?

I’m thinking we may finally have broken ourselves of that particular habit. Because I don’t see too much of it any more. Good.

And now to clear up a misunderstanding I did my fair share to contribute to.

I had heard others here refer to Marica’s as a place with a lot of hopium, and (my mistake!) I assumed that they meant it included this sort of date-specific stuff. Having misunderstood them, I took them at what I thought was their word. (And I probably shouldn’t have trusted them at all, much less expected them to mean the same thing by hopium as I do.)

So when I said later on that they really needed to get off the hopium, I meant the date specific stuff. And when I went over there later, and picked a random page off that day’s daily…I found no date specific stuff! So I was wrong about that, not that one would necessarily be able to tell, since *I* failed to define my terms. Regardless, it was factually wrong and I apologize.

Not that there isn’t hopium of other types, there, and here.

The emphasis over there is quite a bit different. They’re Deplorable over there, of course, but a lot of the content is about peoples’ personal lives, their other hobbies, their current difficulties, and so on. It may or may not be more your cup of tea than this place (which is 90% politics); if you think you need a change of pace, go have a look-see over there.

OK, one other thing to get out of the way. Someone (either there or here, I do not remember) seemed puzzled that I could say that I believe something is happening, when I clearly don’t believe the “movie set” and “Trump is really in charge” interpretations of today’s events. Am I contradicting myself or backing off from that?

No, because that word something could literally mean a trillion different things, and I don’t believe it means either of the two things I mention above. Trump is doing something, but I doubt it’s a countercoup; more likely he’s doing a bunch of stuff behind the scenes to discredit a lot of bad actors, and trying (quietly) to fix the fraud issues and trying to defeat the worse-than-useless dogpuke RINOs. A lot more mundane than what many are thinking, but it’s all important stuff that has to happen one way or another.

Justice Must Be Done.

The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.

Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.

6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Spot Prices

Last week:

Gold $1728.90
Silver $26.03
Platinum $1207.00
Palladium $2426.00
Rhodium $22,000.00

This week, 3PM Mountain Time, markets have closed for the weekend.

Gold $1746.90
Silver $26.33
Platinum $1198.00
Palladium $2688.00
Rhodium $29,000.00

Just when I thought Rhodium might start returning to sane levels…it jumped right back up again. Iridium, too, is going bonkers, in the realm of $5000. It’s a congener of rhodium. (That’s a fancy word meaning “in the same classification group as.” In chemistry, specifically, it means it’s in the same column of the periodic table, which tends to govern chemical properties.)

What’s causing the PGMs other than platinum to go up while platinum is in the dumpster (relatively speaking)? (And the PGMs are: Platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium.)

According to one analysis I read, it’s platinum being in the dumpster that is causing all of these problems! (And I can’t verify this, but it makes sense.)

The other PGMs are not mined in their own right; they are quite rare and specifically going after them is uneconomical. Since they do appear with platinum, they are a byproduct of platinum mining. So production of them halts when platinum production halts, and resumes again once someone starts mining platinum.

And platinum was produced a lot back in 2008-2009, to the point where it became a glut on the market. And it is still a glut on the market. Then Covid came along and killed what little platinum production was still going on. The analysts expect this to continue to be a factor until 2024-25.

If they are correct, it’s still a good time to get into PGMs, however, I at least really can’t afford to do so. On the other hand if rhodium, for instance, were to hit $100,000 or more it might just force a restart of platinum mining!

Watch your tailpipes. Your catalytic converter has about $400 in rhodium in it (which as you might imagine, is not much). There is a rash of practitioners of socialist economics thieves sawing off tailpipes on certain model cars now.

Ruthenium

Ruthenium.

We have five precious metals to go, having done silver, rhodium, platinum, and rhenium already.

Rhenium is very difficult to find in bar form, and so is this week’s metal, ruthenium. (Even rhodium is showing iup in bar form at Kitco, PAMP is making bars now.) Ruthenium is one of the “platinum group metals,” that block of six metals tucked in under iron/cobalt/nickel. If you find a nugget of one of these metals, the others will be in that nugget as impurities.

(It’s important not to confuse the two names even though they’re very similar. Rhenium and ruthenium are different things, even if the only difference in spelling is the “ut.” It’s of the “ut”most importance not to let this confuse you.)

Ruthenium’s density is 12.45, which makes it a bit heavier than lead. But do not use it for bullets; the bad guys are barely worth the regular cost of ammo. And it would probably wreck your rifling, being a lot harder than lead (even jacketed lead). Besides, you’re going to have a very difficult time casting it! It melts at 4,233 F (2607K, 2334 C), which is pretty darned hot–about like the filament in an incandescent bulb (2400K), but other precious metals would shrug even that amount of heat off (e.g, rhenium, which melts at 5767F or 3459K). To give you another notion as to how hot this is, iron melts at 2800 F, 1811K.

Ruthenium was, in fact, the last of the PGMs to be discovered, in 1844, by Karl Ernst Klaus. Don’t let that name fool you. He had German/Baltic ancestry, but he was born in the Russian Empire (and indeed, many Russian scientists had very Germanic names, at the time). He named the element ruthenium, after Ruthenia, the Latin term for Russia.

It appears that Klaus discovered ruthenium while going through the residue left over when refining raw platinum for the Russian platinum ruble coinage that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. And indeed the timing is right, the series was produced between 1828-1845.

Ruthenium has some catalytic uses (like rhodium, platinum, palladium and iridium), but not to as great an extent, so its spot price seems to be roughly $385-400 depending on exactly where you look. It seems to be slowly climbing. But even so, it’s by far the cheapest of the PGMs…if you can find it in bar form. It usually trades as “sponge” which is to say loose powder.

There are times in history when the world runs particularly mad. This is one of them. We’ve been urged to HOLD THE LINE, so let us link arms and face down the madness together.

One of the best tools we can have in these times is the ability to utilize LOGIC, which according to “The Trivium” by Sister Miriam Joseph, C.S.C.., Ph.D., is “the art of thinking.

The Trivium is a classical term denoting three of the seven branches of the Liberal Arts (and we aren’t talking Queer Gender Studies here) that make up both the Trivium and the Quadrivium. We are going to focus on one part of the Trivium, LOGIC, but the other two parts are GRAMMAR (the art of inventing and combining symbols”) and RHETORIC (the “art of communication”).

Yes, we are going to utilize the tools that have stood Western Civilization in good stead for many centuries. I think it was mostly white men who discovered and codified this SUPERIOR way of learning but let us not enrage any lurking BLM Marxists too much…yet.

The propaganda below is evidence of the lack of reason, logic, and critical thinking that is endemic in our culture right now:

You see, comrades, giving THEM any way of showing proof or giving examples is verboten.

LOGIC: THE ART OF THINKING

You may have noticed that people are having a great deal of trouble reasoning nowadays. They have fallen victim to inferior education, indoctrination, their own emotions and foibles, fear, intimidation, celebrity culture, etc. Clear thinking has gone out the window.

Violent Antifa riots are called “mostly peaceful protests.” Black Lives Matter calls white people racists based only on their skin color. Simply being born white is an offense.

People with gender dysphoria are encouraged to undergo surgery rather than consider the historical and emotional causes of such illnesses.

Indeed, the time has now come when the plain provable, scientific facts of biology are officially refuted in order to maintain a political narrative that seeks to overturn the existing order. The madness is such that it is now suggested children be given a cocktail of puberty blockers in order to first discern and choose their sex, gender being the term for sex now, rather than its traditional grammatical function of feminine or masculine in language usage.

The globalists and Marxists who seek to wrest power from the citizens have embarked upon the familiar tactic of overturning the foundations upon which our political system exists, even our understanding of REALITY.

We are experiencing a satanic rebellion. Mankind has seen it before. This is nothing new.

There was another time in history in which the same kind of mass insanity held sway, and that was the French Revolution (one can also add the Russian revolution and other such events). The will to power, rather than truth and the legitimate seeking of redress for wrongs, takes hold of those who let rage, envy, greed and violence fill their minds.

Cunning. Clever. Predictable.

It’s enough to make you want to drink. 😊 Let’s!

Today’s special is the Texas Two-Step, or in more common parlance, a Boilermaker. A shot of whiskey and a beer. Here’s a bit of history about the Boilermaker. Fta:

“Stories are murky at best as to how the boilermaker first came into existence, but it’s pretty clear that the drink was originally consumed by blue collar workers at the end of a long shift – which is why it’s now become the shift drink of choice among bartenders. It’s believed the drink takes its name from the workers who built and maintained steam locomotives in the 1800s. These workers were known to head to the bar at the end of the shift, and a shot of whiskey with a beer became a staple for quickly easing the pain that came from a hard day of back-breaking labor. As it was the drink consumed by boilermakers, it took on the name as well.”

I’m going to feature this Irish whiskey that DePat suggested in a comment the other day.

I just happened to be down in the metroplex and picked up a bottle of Powers Irish Whiskey (do read their introduction. I swear I could hear an Irish brogue emanating from the screen while I read it).

From their website:

“YOU DON’T LAST OVER 200 YEARS BY
CUTTING CORNERS”

Powers Irish Whiskey

That could be said about the USA, too, eh? These damned commies just do what they want and cut corners, like ignoring the rule of law and the will of the people.

Back to the Boilermaker. DePat, I just love you. Powers is one of the most delightful whiskeys I’ve ever tasted. From Cork, where my husband’s family history hails, it has firmly supplanted his current favorite (which I will not name out of an abundance of respect for it).

However, Powers has a light refinement to it that is reminiscent of some of the best whiskeys. Looking forward to trying all three types.

I paired it with Guinness, which was NOT MY CHOICE. I would’ve gone with a lighter beer, but sometimes you have to let your better half do what he’s gonna do. That said, it pairs up pretty darn well.

Now, there are several ways of drinking a Boilermaker. Back in the day, lo these 40 years ago, we did it as this fine fellow does in the video below. He’s a hoot.

Let us raise our glasses to DePat and her sweet pup. God keep them together now and in eternity.

HOUSE RULES

Before we get much further, this eminently annoying but much needed reminder: let us down our Boilermakers in a spirit of true brotherhood. We might disagree—strenuously—but we are patriots. And we stick together like glue. Rules here.

The bouncers are happy to direct you to the Utree if you feel the need to boil over. Besides being a release valve, the Utree is also another place to gather in case something happens here.

HOW TO LIVE

Circling back to LOGIC (Red Jen just saw what I did there) here’s another quote from The Trivium:

“The utilitarian or servile arts enable one to be a servant—of another person, of the state, of a corporation, or of a business—and to earn a living. The liberal arts, in contrast, teach one how to live; they train the faculties and bring them to perfection; they enable a person to rise above his material environment to live an intellectual, a rational, and therefore a free life in gaining truth.” Sister Miriam Joseph

Sister Miriam Joseph

“…a free life in gaining truth.”

That is the crux. How does one live “a free life in gaining truth” when all around us is lies? Our pastors lie to us. Our government lies to us. Academia lies to us. The Press lies to us constantly. Business lies to us. Big Pharma lies to us.

I think freedom comes from “conformity of thought with things as they are—with reality.”

Let reality order our thoughts:

  • There are two sexes: Male and Female. The biological reality of that fact is not negated by surgery or saying differently.
  • Calling white people racist on the basis of their whiteness…is RACIST.
  • Wearing a mask is largely an exercise in virtue signaling or servile compliance, or is worn by POWs in the global war on freedom.
  • Experimental vaccines are not a panacea for fear of death from a virus that over 99% of us would survive anyway.
  • Sending your children to the public schools and expecting they will be the very few who are not affected by communist/globalist indoctrination, is unrealistic.
  • The 2020 election was stolen from the American people.
  • No one man is adequate to saving a country from revolution.
  • Evil ideologies flourish anywhere they are given a foothold, including the United States of America.

In a world full of lies we must stand for the truth, for REALITY.

It may cost us dearly. The path of revolution very well might have to come full circle. Let those of us who make it through be ready pick up the mantle of reason and rebuild. We owe it to our posterity.

I Will Accomplish What I Intend

We’ve read about God’s higher thoughts, and that those thoughts translate into actions, His ways. But, do God’s ways always work out? Maybe Satan’s schemes or the evil in men will nullify those actions. Maybe God gives it His best shot, but somehow, with all the resistance from mankind and the devil, things just don’t seem to work out the way God intended.

I hope you’re thinking “Yeah, right,” because that’s the right response to the possibility of God being unsuccessful in His actions. God is all powerful, all wise, and He knows everything that was, that is, and that ever will be. There is nothing anywhere, anyplace or anytime that has even the slightest chance of making anything happen that is not the will of God.

“As the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, . . . So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void” (Isaiah 55:10–11).

So, what does it mean that the Word of God won’t return void?

The word void means “empty.” The remainder of verse 11 explains what it means to “not return void,” saying that God’s Word “will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Rain and snow are part of the water process cycle. Precipitation comes on the earth, soaks into the land, and produces great benefit in the growth of crops, the refreshment of souls, and the sustaining of life. Rain and snow come from above and do not return back above without accomplishing their purpose. God compares His Word to the rain and snow because, like precipitation, God’s Word always fulfills His good purposes.

When God says that His Word will not return to Him void, we can know that He has an intention for His Word. God’s Word is from above. He “breathed out” His words to us, and they were recorded in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16). Every word He gave humanity is purposeful and was given for a reason. Like the rain and snow, God’s words bring forth life (John 6:63) and produce good fruit in our lives. Through His Word, we know that God loves us and that Jesus died to free us from sin and death; we also learn how to live in light of those truths.

When God says that His Word won’t return to Him void, we are encouraged to abide in His Word, allowing it to flow into our lives, with us soaking it up as the ground soaks up the rain and snow. The truth won’t return void since our hearts are changed. God’s Word rebukes us and corrects us when we’re wrong, and it trains us in godly living (2 Timothy 3:16–17). His Word is a light guiding us in this dark world (Psalm 119:105). It is relevant to every pressing and practical problem. God’s Word will always accomplish what He desires, whether it is teaching, correcting, training, leading us to Him, revealing our sin, or some other good and profitable end.

When God says that His Word won’t return to Him void, we understand that God is Sovereign. The promise is that God’s Word will accomplish what He wants it to, not necessarily what we want it to. We may share the Word with the purpose of changing someone’s mind—and the person’s mind doesn’t change. Was God’s Word void? No, but our personal goals may have been different from God’s. Like the wind that “blows wherever it pleases,” the Holy Spirit moves in mysterious ways (John 3:8). And God may use His Word in surprising ways, at surprising times, and in surprising people. We can’t predict exactly how God will use His Word any more than meteorologists can predict with certainty the rainfall and snowfall.

God’s Word won’t return void. It’s too powerful. When God said, “Let there be light,” the immediate result was that “there was light” (Genesis 1:3). When Jesus said, “Peace! Be still!” the wind ceased and the sea calmed (Mark 4:39). God’s Word will always prosper; God will succeed, and those who receive His Word will be overcomers as well (1 John 5:4).

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

His Fraudulency

The situation is unchanged. His Fraudulency continues to infest the White House, we haven’t heard much from the person who should have been declared the victor, and hopium is still being dispensed even as our military appears to have joined the political establishment in knuckling under to the fraud.

One can hope that all is not as it seems.

I’d love to feast on that crow.

Lawyer Appeasement Section

OK now for the fine print.

This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Poltical correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines,  here, with an addendum on 20191110.

We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.

And remember Wheatie’s Rules:

1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. Zeroth rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government get your guns.
5. Rule one of gun safety: The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

(Hmm a few extras seem to have crept in.)

Spot Prices

All prices are Kitco Ask, 3PM MT Friday (at that time the markets close for the weekend).

Last week:

Gold $1701.10
Silver $25.32
Platinum $1136.00
Palladium $2398.00
Rhodium $27,800.00

This week:

Gold $1728.90
Silver $26.03
Platinum $1207.00
Palladium $2426.00
Rhodium $22,000.00

Everything is up…except rhodium which dropped over $5,800. However, lately these prices have been bouncing round inside a range (gold has sometimes been under $1700), so this is deceptive; things are at the top of the range today, they were lower in the range last Friday.

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a rhodium futures market, but if so, I imagine anyone who trades in it needs tranquilizers.

Rhenium

Rhenium is our next precious metal to be discussed. It lies to the left of the block of six “platinum group metals” so it’s something of an outlier in the group of nine precious metals (silver, gold, the six PGMs…and rhenium).

[A bit left of center in the table below, you’ll see it, #75, symbol Re. The PGMs are the 3×2 block to its right (44-46 and 76-78), silver and gold (47 and 79) are to the right of the PGMs.]

Rhenium was one of the last stable elements–i.e., one of the last you can find out there and own–to be discovered. (Just for instance the eighteen elements we know of past fermium (100), all discovered in the last 60 years or so, probably don’t even exist right now. Perhaps, though, someone is running an experiment and creating some of them right now, but if so, they’ll be gone within minutes of the experiment’s conclusion.)

In 1914, the period table was looking like it was filling up. What was missing was the blue squares in the diagram, plus #72. Also no one knew of anything past 92; such a thing hadn’t even been imagined.

Henry Moseley had validated the concept of atomic number the year before, so we now could assign numbers to elements and know they either were, or were not, adjacent to each other with no undiscovered element between them. We already could tell this, for the most part, with most elements but couldn’t be sure with the rare earths–and the discovery of the noble gases had revealed an entire column of the periodic table we had no notion of beforehand (the rightmost column in the table above). We really couldn’t know there weren’t more undiscovered columns, until Moseley did his work.

So there were six known holes in the table: elements 43, 61, 72, 75, 85, and 87. We expected 85 and 87 to be radioactive, and it probably wasn’t much of a surprise when they turned out to be hard to find because only a few trillion atoms of them existed all over the earth at any given time…and not the same trillion as there were yesterday. They were found around 1940, by a technique totally unimagined in the teens and twenties. But 43, 61, 72, and 75 should have been findable; they didn’t seem to have high enough numbers to be radioactive.

Really aggravating was the fact that 43 and 75 are in the same column of the periodic table, right below manganese. Those two elements should be chemically very similar to each other, and in fact element 73 (two columns to the left) had been discovered by poking through the ores of element 41, its upstairs neighbor. If we could find element 43, we’d probably find element 75, for the same reason, but we couldn’t fricking find element 43 either! With no element 43 ores, we couldn’t search those ores looking for element 75. A basic catch 22 (titanium).

[72 was indeed found in 1925 by looking through samples of element 40 (zirconium). It turned out to be so chemically similar that almost every sample of zirconium had anywhere up to 5 percent hafnium in it…and we had had no idea. Even today, they usually don’t bother removing the hafnium from zirconium, because it’s a cast iron pain in the ass to do so, and assays of zirconium will say something like “99 percent pure as long as you ignore the hafnium” (paraphrasing). But it turns out zirconium was great for sheathing nuclear fuel rods, because it didn’t absorb neutrons, and halfnium was great for control rods, because it absorbed neutrons like a sponge…so we had to learn how to separate the two elements for nuclear applications lest they degrade each other’s performance. It’s still a pain in the ass, but sometimes it’s gotta be done.]

In 1908, Masataka Ogawa claimed to have discovered element 43. We now know he really had discovered element 75, but back then he was simply disregarded. In 1922, however, another trio of researchers, Walter Noddack, Ida Noddack and Otto Berg discovered element 75, and realized it was element 75, and this time it stuck. In 1925 they reported that they had seen the element in platinum ore and a few other minerals. In 1928 they were able to extract a gram of it by processing 660 kilograms of molybdenite. (An ore of molybdenum, element 42, from the next column to the left.) And we still had no idea where in the bloody hell element 43 was!

They named their element 75 discovery rhenium, after the river Rhine.

Rhenium was considered ultra-rare back then (because there really aren’t any good ores of it) and is still pretty rare stuff. It is, however, used not for jewelry. It’s more like those workhorse elements like molybdenum, and vanadium, and niobium…the sorts of things that get put into steel so you can buy tools with funny names ending in “ium” on them at Home Depot. And indeed, it’s used in superalloys, the sorts of alloys that show up in jet engine turbine blades. In pure form rhenium can be heated and cooled, over and over again, and not show any stress from the process–untrue of other metals. It has been called the perfect metal for that reason, and has even found use in rocket motors, despite the fact that it is very, very heavy (which is hell on spacecraft design, as every ounce of additional weight means many pounds of extra fuel, which means bigger boosters).

A cubic centimeter of rhenium (like the cube shown in the photo above) weighs 21.02 grams. The same amount of water weighs one gram, in fact that’s how they originally defined the gram. Osmium, iridium and platinum come in higher than rhenium’s density. Nothing else does. It’s almost twice as heavy, volume for volume, as lead (11.9 grams per cubic centimeter), and is twice as heavy as silver (10.5).

I’ve had a hard time running down its spot price (an indication there probably really isn’t one), but it seems to cost about $1200 per kilogram. Yes, the price is quoted per kilogram, not per troy ounce. Which is roughly 35 dollars a troy ounce. Given how rare it is, that’s a low, low price.

But it has a very high melting point, which means it’s hard to find as bars. Not impossible, but hard. Once company, Luciteria, does make troy ounce square bars of the stuff but they charge well over $200 for them which seems steep to me.

In the fullness of time, it turned out that element 43 was hard to find because there isn’t any of it to speak of. All of its isotopes are radioactive, with half lives of two million years or so, so any that was on Earth when it was created is long gone, and unlike with something like radium, there’s nothing long lived that decays into it to keep renewing it. (The occasional uranium atom fissions and one of the pieces will turn out to be technetium, but that’s very rare in nature, and could never have been detected in 1922.) In fact, element 43 was discovered in 1937 when we inadvertently artificially created it from element 42, molybdenum, and it was named technetium as a result.

Masataka Ogawa got the last laugh, long after he died. His proposed name for his discovery was nipponium, symbol Np. Well Np as a symbol ended up going to neptunium–when we started creating elements artificially, neptunium was readily created from uranium. Decades later, when a Japanese team created element 113, it got the name nihonium, symbol Nh, and the team was very consciously honoring Ogawa, who had discovered rhenium without realizing it, with this choice.

(And as long as Neptune has slid into this sideways into this discussion of unrecognized finds, I’ll point out that Galileo did see Neptune back in the early 1600s. But he had no idea that it wasn’t just another star; we only know he saw it because he drew a diagram of some of the “stars” he saw and one dot on his diagram could only have been Neptune. Someone finally recognized Neptune for what it was in 1846, having been told where to look for it by analyzing unexpected perturbations in Uranus’s orbit.)

DEAR KAG: 2021-03-12

It’s Fight Like a Flynn Friday at Wolf’s Pub. Welcome back! I think you would agree there is freedom, and then there is FREEEEDOMMM!

What does it mean to be truly free? Can the body be imprisoned but the mind free? How does one free the mind? Are there things worse than death? Is freedom worth dying for? How do we learn freedom?

I believe the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights attempted (and mainly succeeded) in enumerating how a self-governed nation would operate. Maximum freedom of religion, speech, self-defense, assembly, and then freedom FROM unlawful search and seizure and so on.

General Flynn had a compelling op-ed in the Western Journal a couple days ago that is worth taking the time to read and ponder. This stood out to me:

“Though the battle for the soul of America is fierce before us, we cannot afford to look away in hopes of finding retreat. There will be none.”

Speaking of the soul…for your listening pleasure, here is Loreena McKinnett singing “The Dark Night of the Soul”, a poem by St. John of the Cross, a 16th century Spanish mystic. It speaks to the time preceding the union of the soul with God, when the darkness within drives the soul to leave earthly things and seek God. I would say union with God is true freedom.

Lyrics:

Upon a darkened night
the flame of love was burning in my breast
And by a lantern bright
I fled my house while all in quiet rest

Shrouded by the night
And by the secret stair I quickly fled
The veil concealed my eyes
while all within lay quiet as the dead

Chorus:
Oh night thou was my guide
of night more loving than the rising sun
Oh night that joined the lover
to the beloved one
transforming each of them into the other

Upon that misty night
in secrecy, beyond such mortal sight
Without a guide or light
than that which burned so deeply in my heart
That fire t’was led me on
and shone more bright than of the midday sun
To where he waited still
it was a place where no one else could come

(Chorus)

Within my pounding heart
which kept itself entirely for him
He fell into his sleep
beneath the cedars all my love I gave
From o’er the fortress walls
the wind would brush his hair against his brow
And with its smoothest hand
caressed my every sense it would allow

(Chorus)

I lost myself to him
and laid my face upon my lover’s breast
And care and grief grew dim
as in the morning’s mist became the light
There they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
there they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
there they dimmed amongst the lilies fair

In honor of the Spanish mystic, our special tonight is the Spanish Tempranillo wine, a bold tasting and vibrant grape that may have been brought to Spanish shores by the Phoenicians thousands of years ago.

You can learn more here with the added bonus list of 40 of the top-rated Tempranillo wines from Spain. Unfortunately, a good Tempranillo can be hard to find. The ones in the local grocery store are usually the lower end of quality, with bitingly sharp tannins and sometimes murky overtones.

That said, if you can find a good Spanish Tempranillo wine, it will often be a reserva (aka more expensive). We happen to have all 40 of the top-rated wines on hand tonight (wink, wink), so feel free to browse through the list and order a bottle for your table.

HOUSE RULES

Before we get back to Fight like a Flynn Friday, let’s review the rules. Make nice. Easier said than done in these trying times but give it your best shot. In case you feel like getting ugly, there’s the Utree. The Utree has more than one purpose, too. It is also a rendezvous place in case something happens to this site. Thanks Coothie, for reminding us that we have another place to gather in the event we can’t gather here.

Now, back to Gen. Flynn’s op-ed in the Western Journal. He describes how our nation was founded on faith in God as the bedrock of our freedoms.

“Faith and freedom can never be separated

from one another.”

General Michael Flynn

And then he begins to urge us to take in hand and read again our founding documents and the writings of the Founding Fathers.

“Anyone can learn more about our nation’s founding. Start simple. When was the last time you read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence?

We tend to forget just how easy it is to read the Constitution from cover to cover. President Obama’s Affordable Care Act was more than 314,000 words long, but the document that frames our entire system of government is only 4,500 words in length. The average American can read it in half an hour.

Of course, if we really want to get into the mindset of our Founding Fathers, we must dig deeper. “The Federalist Papers,” de Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America,” Paine’s “Common Sense” and the writings of John Locke are all well worth the read.”

He goes on:

“There is a reason why the forces of darkness are trying so hard to eradicate the family as we know it. They see how powerful the bond of family can be, so they want to redefine it, water it down and replace it with a dependency on the state. We cannot allow them to destroy the family. As long as marriages and families are strong, freedom will always have a fighting chance. Never concede to those who say they know how to raise your children better than you do. God entrusted the care of children to parents, not to governments.”

General Flynn mentions the importance of friendship and the will to fight against the forces arrayed against America. He asks us:

“Will you join the fight?

For the sake of our children and grandchildren, I pray you will.”

Tragically, most of our children have not learned what it means to be free and the cost of it, and the history of it. They’ve been fed a load of crap in our schools for several generations now. Let’s face it, we have been allowing the enemies of freedom to indoctrinate our children for decades.

I found this video of five libertarians (as near as I can tell) enjoying a wide-ranging discussion about educational alternatives. It’s an hour and a half, but it discusses so many issues, mentions so many good resources, and addresses so many of the facets of educating one’s own children and grandchildren, that I urge you to give it a listen.

https://lbry.tv/@UnlooseGoose:9/episode-6-educational-alternatives:b

In a 2017 article at the Federalist, Mike Sabo wrote:

“But if recent findings are any indication, Americans’ acquaintance with the founders’ principles and practices seems to be at a nadir. According to a report of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a majority of college graduates can’t recall “the substance of the First Amendment, or the origin of the separation of powers.” Perhaps most alarmingly, “nearly 10% say that Judith Sheindlin—‘Judge Judy’—is on the Supreme Court.” A big part of the problem seems to stem from the fact that of the 1,100 “liberal arts colleges and universities” surveyed, just “18%” require students to take a course on American history or government before graduation.”

WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF EXCUSES

The folks in the video above talk about a plethora of educational options for getting your kids out of the government schools. We talk freedom, but the government schools (yours included) have been teaching servitude, and our children have been learning to LOVE IT.

At the end of the book by Viktor E. Frankl, “Man’s Search for Meaning”, Sigmund Freud is quoted. Freud basically believed that the primal urge of hunger would bring uniformity to a diverse group of people. Frankl writes:

“Sigmund Freud once asserted, ‘Let one attempt to expose a number of the most diverse people uniformly to hunger. With the increase of the imperative urge of hunger all individual differences will blur, and in their stead will appear the uniform expression of the one unstilled urge.’ Thank heaven, Sigmund Freud was spared knowing the concentration camps from the inside. His subjects lay on a couch designed in the plush style of Victorian culture, not in the filth of Auschwitz. There, the “individual differences” did not blur but, on the contrary, people became more different; people unmasked themselves, both the swine and the saints. And today you need no longer hesitate to use the word “saints”: think of Father Maximillian Kolbe who was starved and finally murdered by an injection of carbolic acid at Auschwitz and who in 1983 was canonized.

You may be prone to blame me for invoking examples that are the exceptions to the rule. ‘Sed omnia praeclara tam difficilia quam rara sunt’ (but everything great is just as difficult to realize as it is rare to find) reads the last sentence of the Ethics of Spinoza. You may of course ask whether we really need to refer to ‘saints.’ Wouldn’t it suffice just to refer to decent people? It is true that they form a minority. More than that, they will always remain a minority. And yet I see therein the very challenge to join the minority. For the world is in a bad state, but everything will become still worse unless each of us does his best.

So, let us be alert—alert in a two-fold sense:

Since Auschwitz we know what man is capable of.

And since Hiroshima we know what is at stake.” (My bolding above)

As we now face a global enemy that seeks to deprive us of every one of our God-given freedoms, of even mental autonomy through the great evil of transhumanism; that seeks to control our movements, our medical decisions, our financial and political decisions, we have no choice but to join the fight with Gen. Flynn.

The Cult of Globalism believes

REASON IS TREASON

Let us fight for our freedom and for our children’s freedom by freeing their minds of the poison of globalism, socialism, progressive theories, and communism. The ruling elites are eaten up with a soul sickness that will not hesitate to reach beyond the depths of the Holocaust.

WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF. We have seen them kill off thousands of vulnerable seniors and others through the CCP virus. We know of the trafficking of children and women, of the vaccine injuries inflicted thoughtlessly on African children by psychopaths like Bill Gates. THEY WON’T STOP. The only way to stop them is for the United States of America to remain FREE. The battle must be engaged. Search your soul and find where God will take you in this battle. And then get to it. Politics, education, religion, agriculture, business—whatever your bailiwick—turn it to the battle for freedom.

And fight like a Flynn.

Another Hopium Goal Posthole Goes By.

March 4th, the old inauguration day before it moved to January 20th. For some reason I cannot understand, a lot of people were sure that meant something.

It didn’t.

The goal posts have moved again; all we find now that we’re here is yet another empty post hole.

Few…well honestly, most likely no one who is addicted to this crap will learn the obvious lesson, though.

How many times will it take before y’all wake up and realize you’re being had, over and over and over again?

Some Anti Trumper (by which I mean both “Never Trumper” and “Leftist Asswipe”) is probably laughing his ass off at you: Suckered again!

In fact, I think there’s a good chance someone over there is making this stuff up to get you to waste your energy on it.

Indictments after the 2018 election. The Huber Report. The Memo. Declass. Indictments after we’re done dealing with so-and-so’s funeral. Indictments after the election but before Trump Leaves Office, which of course he won’t REALLY do.

Please: Wake up and smell what you’ve been shoveling.

It has been wrong.

Every.

Single.

Time.

“Gee, Steve, if you don’t want to see it, then scroll on by.”

That’s beside the point. What are you doing to yourselves believing in bullshit?

After you get done being furious with me, please, please, ask yourself that. What can give you the confidence to continue breathlessly repeating this crap as if it’s God’s truth, when it has been wrong, every single time.

And if your answer in any way rests on hope being a virtue, I have to then wonder at the spectacle of someone who believes that even false hope is a virtue.

“How dare you tell me what to post?”

I haven’t told you what to post. I am begging you to think critically. and subject this stuff to a test. It’s been false every single time. Come to the logical conclusion. PLEASE. And no, you’re not critically thinking just because you disagree with the conventional wisdom about a few things.

It’s sad seeing such clearly intelligent people ensnare themselves in demonstrable falsehood again and again and again.

“Gee, Steve, you want us to quit fighting?”

No. NO!! I want you to start fighting. To the extent that you’re waiting on the next bullshit goalpost/deadline, you aren’t fighting, you’re waiting for someone to rescue you.

We’re not going to get rescued like that. We have to pull ourselves through this. Trump is continuing to fight; he’s not waiting for someone to miracle him back into the White House. And it should be pretty obvious by now he’s not providing the miracle himself. He has acknowledged that Biden is now the president, albeit not the rightful president.

It’s up to us, collectively and severally. Get off the hopium, sober up, accept that the current situation is exactly what it is, and figure out what to do about it. Because you aren’t going to do squat if you continue to delude yourself it will magically get fixed. If you think someone else is going to solve the problem, or that the problem is a bit of phony theater, you won’t, yourself, do anything to solve the problem.

And that is just what the Left wants you to do. And that’s why I am starting to suspect these wacky scenarios and deadlines are made up by the Left.

It’s a free Q tree. You can go on doing this. Really you can. But I really hope you’ll come to your senses someday.

That hope is my hopium, but I am realistic enough to realize how unlikely it is. Prove me wrong.

Spot Prices.

All prices are Kitco Ask, 3PM MT Friday (at that time the markets close for the weekend).

Last week:

Gold $1735.60
Silver $26.80
Platinum $1191.00
Palladium $2379.00
Rhodium $26,000.00

This week:

Gold $1701.10
Silver $25.32
Platinum $1136.00
Palladium $2398.00
Rhodium $27,800.00

I talked a bit about rhodium last week (by the way, even though it’s higher than last Friday, it did drop a bit Friday.). I’m going to talk, this week, about platinum.

Platinum appears in some ancient Egyptian relics, but there’s no sign that the Egyptians themselves realized it was something different. It also shows up in some pre-Columbian artifacts produced in South America. I don’t know what they thought of it, whether they considered it different from gold and silver.

It first began to come to the attention of Westerners in 1557, when Julius Scaliger (who invented the Julian date used by astronomers, which is very different from the so-called “Julian date” used by some businesses which is simply the number of days since the prior new year). He noted it as an impurity in gold “which no fire nor any Spanish artifice has yet been able to liquefy.”

Now the Spaniards weren’t at all happy to find this stuff, at least not at first. Having a density actually a bit higher than gold, it would remain in the pan when panning for gold. It then had to be painstakingly separated from the gold, flake by flake. Because it was basically caca blanca.

In addition to being dense, more so than gold, platinum is even more resistant to acids. Which means that it will pass most of the easy tests for gold. You can scratch a gold-plated platinum item and give it the literal acid test, and it will pass. Fortunately, since it couldn’t be melted by any method known at the time, it was hard to make jewelry out of it to plate it, or, really, any solid mass.

Useless!!! They named it Pinto Silver (from the name of a river), and the later name “platina” is basically just a derivative of “plata”–silver.

But then it turned out that if you dumped platinum into molten gold, it would dissolve, just like salt dissolves in water. Once people realized this, mint workers had a new way to steal gold. By holding back some and swapping it with an equal weight of platinum, they could adulterate the coinage and pocket the gold. Meanwhile, no average person, prepared to test gold coinage to ensure it wasn’t gold plated lead, could detect it.

The Spanish government got wind of this. And they banned the possession of platinum. You had to sell it to the Spanish government, which would take it away and store it somewhere, to ensure it didn’t end up in their coins. (Later on, of course, they’d eventually decide to debase their own money with the platinum.)

In the mid 1700s chemists began to notice this stuff. The first chemist to look at it and decide it was a new element was Antonio de Ulloa, in the mid 1700s.

But a use for platinum did finally turn up, once someone figured out how to work it. By dissolving it in aqua regia (an acid that attacks gold as well as platinum), then precipitating it out of solution, one gets a powder; by compressing and heating it, you could, at least form it into shapes even though this was basically “sponge” platinum. People began to make crucibles out of it, it being handy for crucibles to withstand any amount of heat one could throw at it.

Another use was boilers for sulfuric acid. Take a flat sheet of platinum, bend it around into a cylinder. Solder the seam with gold (and begrudge every tiny bit of gold you have to use for the seam). Also weld on circular ends. You now have a pressure vessel, you can pour dilute sulfuric acid into it, boil off some of the water and concentrate it. Otherwise, you’d have to use a glass vat, and having a brittle glass vat explode with sulfuric acid inside…well, you don’t want to be around; if the glass doesn’t lacerate you, the acid will burn you. And if the glass does lacerate you, the acid will still burn you.

By the early 1800s platinum was, ounce for ounce, about six times as expensive as silver (and gold was about 15 times as expensive). And more deposits had been found in Russia.

Three things to say about the Russian platinum deposits. First, nuggets were found, and some of the locals would use them as birdshot!!! Imagine blowing platinum out of your shotgun!

Second, work was done on this platinum in England. A couple of chemists dissolved platinum with aqua regia, and there was some stuff in there that wouldn’t dissolve. Eventually Tennant and Wollaston concluded there were new metals there: rhodium, palladium, osmium and iridium. Because these metals (and a fourth, ruthenium, discovered in 1844) are always found together in minerals, they became known as the “platinum group metals.”

Finally, someone in Russia came up with the bright idea of minting coins out of platinum, and this was done from 1828 to 1845. The coins were the same sizes as the quarter, half and ruble (silver coins), but weighed twice as much, so their face values were 12 times as much.

A three ruble platinum coin. A bit smaller than a quarter…and twice as heavy.
Almost exactly 1/3 or a troy ounce, but the platinum is not terribly pure

When I said a couple of weeks ago there was no such thing as junk platinum because there were no platinum coins (with one exception) ever made for circulation, these were indeed the coins I was thinking of, but the problem is these coins are very valuable, especially the 6 and 12 ruble pieces. They’re worth far more as coins than they are as metal, which means they’re not “junk” in the way that “junk silver” is. So you won’t be finding this for “dirt cheap” or “just above melt.”

These coins were also made out of sponge. Pure platinum is about 21.45 times as dense as water; these coins tend to be about 20.5 times as dense. About five percent of these things is air! They’re also not especially pure; some effort was made to remove impurities (such as other platinum group metals), but much remained, and there’s also some small amount of iron in them.

Finally in the mid 1800s someone invented a furnace that could melt platinum, so we now had solid platinum to work with (and in fact, people make fakes of the Russian platinum coinage out of real platinum, but they never go through the trouble of making sponge out of the platinum. So the fakes tend to look better than the real ones, sponge platinum having a kind of ugly appearance to it.

Later on, platinum’s use as a catalyst gave it real value and most of those coins got scrapped and sold to Johnson Matthey, which is still today a major refiner of the platinum group metals.

Eventually platinum’s price exceeded that of gold, and then, people decided it would make good jewelry in its own right.

And so, when I was a kid, platinum was always more expensive than gold. It was in the 400s when gold was in the 300s, and when gold spiked to $850 an ounce one day late in the Carter administration, platinum was over a thousand bucks. I don’t recall when its price slid to below that of gold, but that situation has persisted for quite some time. It feels “wrong” to me.

DEAR KAG: 2021-03-05 Freeman Edition

“Oh thus be it ever when freemen shall stand

Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation;

Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land

Praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust!’

O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave!”

Francis Scott Key

Welcome to Wolf’s Pub! It’s Freemen Friday and today we fight.

They aren’t going to win. They think Might makes Right.

“Let us have faith that right makes might; and in that faith let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.”

Abraham Lincoln

The globalists and communists picked a fight with the Real America this time around. They have gone all in. It’s winner take all. But we are freemen and we hold the lantern of liberty aloft.

Remember us? We love our homes, we are loath to fight unless forced to it, we HATE having our blood and treasure spilled in foreign lands. We HATE cancel culture. We HATE that they seek to divide us, that they tax us without representing us. We just wanted to be left alone to pursue our lives, our liberty, and our happiness.

We’ve been patient. We’ve put up with a “Long Train of Abuses and Usurpations” from enemies foreign and domestic. We know that the communists and globalists within our own government spy on us— sovereign citizens of these United States; that they are making an enemies list of American citizens who support President Trump. That they mean to makes us afraid and keep us cowering in our homes.

We know that they have sold out to China and other foreign nations for filthy lucre; that they do not honor their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. They have installed a senile old pervert in the White House, which shows their contempt for this great nation and its people.

They are comfortable in their positions of power. They probably even feel justified in all they have done to destroy our great republic. Theirs is a “high and lonely destiny” to quote Uncle Andrew in The Magician’s Nephew, a book I highly recommend to any of them left with a modicum of conscience.

But I also know this: evil ideologies and those who carry them out always lose in the end. I don’t know what, when, where, or how, but I do know that evil has a limited lifespan and it will be defeated. It is inherently self-destructive.

Wild bergamot is the herb that is the featured image above. I was out in my garden yesterday and noticed that the bergamot was peeking through the dead growth from last year. The Dark Winter we went through did not kill it. It is coming back thicker than ever. And so will America.

And I further know that it will be God who defeats this evil that bedevils our nation. He will use Gideon’s three hundred, but it will be God to whom the glory belongs. Glory to God in the highest!

Before we go further, visit here to review the Rules. No friendly fire. We’re gonna stick together like glue, even when we disagree. Disagreements allowed, just keep it civil and buy each other a drink. You can catch more bees with honey than vinegar. Brawling only allowed at the UTree.

Speaking of drinks, today’s special is Jack Daniels, that iconic American bourbon.

Here is a video featuring patriotic drinks made with Jack Daniels whiskey. Scrumptious!

If you peruse the Jack Daniels website you will see that its history involves slavery. But we don’t cancel our history, we learn from it.

Battle Plans

“Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace.”

James Madison

I’ve noticed that alternative media is on the rise and beginning to come into its own. Important that we visit and support and SHARE WITH OTHERS. I’m compiling a list of these alternative sites and I’m going to share them with friends. So many of our fellow citizens continue to be stuck in the loop of the propaganda MSM.

Let us help free them with the help of a truly FREE PRESS.

I’m even thinking about printing up small cards with all these websites on them to pass out to people, to put on public bulletin boards and wherever they might do good. I guess I’m getting stuck on the “Kilroy was here” tactic. It was immensely successful.

Tools of the Trade for Patriots

Here’s some of my favorites. Please add your own in the comments, as I know I’ve missed a lot. The more we undercut the reach of the Fake News Media with true news and information, the faster we own them. And they will be ours. Oh yes, they will be ours.

Let’s not give the Internet Censors a reason to shut down this intellectual haven that Wolf has created for us.

The Storm is upon us.
Please remember to Pray for our President.

And,

My Thoughts Are Higher . . .

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) “. . . my word that goes out from my mouth . . . will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

A while ago we read about a very few top-level details concerning possible clandestine contingency operations carried out simultaneously against enemy assets located inside this country, and against enemy actions that take place outside the borders of the US. These operations are completely unfathomable to us without a lot more detail . . . and a few more synapses in our craniums would probably be necessary, too.

We also look around and see the corruption, violence, child trafficking, perversions, and general air of hatred that appears to be growing in our country and it’s bewildering that God allows this to happen.

Now, compare us trying to understand these clandestine operational plans, and understanding why our country is deteriorating with trying to understand the plans and purposes of the Person who spoke the universe into being. The whole difficulty for us is that we’re finite beings, trying to understand God, the Infinite.

So, what does God really mean when He says, ‘my thoughts are higher than your thoughts’?

In Isaiah 55, the Lord invites Israel to return to an abundant life in Him. God reminds them that only He can supply what they need. He then says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. . . . As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (verses 8–9).

A loving parent does things for a child that the child doesn’t understand. Likewise, the Lord loves, guides, protects, and provides for us in ways we don’t understand. His thoughts are higher than ours. As an infinite Being with infinite wisdom, God knows and understands things we cannot comprehend. We are wise when we bow to that knowledge rather than demand that He do things our way.

We live in a material world, so our natural focus is primarily on our physical needs. But when our thoughts are centered on mundane matters, we miss what God wants to show us. He is beyond time and space. His thoughts are always on the big picture. Our thoughts are earthly; His are heavenly. Our thoughts are limited; His are unlimited and unsearchable.

When God promises that “all things work together for the good to them who love God and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28), His definition of good may not match ours. We may not see our struggles as leading to anything good because we can’t see into the future. We cannot know how God’s work in our lives will impact ourselves and countless others. He sees the whole picture; we see only the frame. Lost in our lowly thoughts, we cannot fathom the higher plan of God. That’s why we have to trust Him when we don’t understand.

In Jeremiah 29:11 God expresses some of His higher thoughts toward Israel: “For I know the plans I have for you, . . . plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” In this verse, God promised that the Israelites, exiled in Babylon, would one day return to their homeland. He encouraged them not to give up or think that the Lord had abandoned them. His thoughts toward them were higher than they could imagine, and they had to put their faith in His promises, even while enduring His discipline (2 Kings 21:14; Jeremiah 29:14). God was reminding His children that He can see around corners and into a future that they could not see. As God’s children today, this verse also applies to us, knowing that God’s thoughts toward each of us are on a higher plane than our own.

When God allows sorrow and pain to enter the lives of His beloved children, it’s because His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He intends to use our difficulties to produce the character of Christ in us (Romans 8:29). He comforts us in our troubles so that we can learn to comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:4).

His goals for us are higher than our goals for ourselves because His thoughts always have an eternal dimension. Our experiences are small pieces in a giant puzzle that stretches across human history from beginning to end. We may not understand our part in the puzzle, but we can trust that God does. As we surrender to His plan, we set aside our earth-bound thoughts and allow His higher thoughts to direct our paths (see Proverbs 3:5–6).

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
