It makes no difference to me one way or the other. The bottom line is that DeSantis is doing a great job as governor, Trump is the head of MAGA and the Republican Party, and we need to keep DeSantis where he is and get Trump back in the WH where he belongs. Whatever happens after that, we will deal with. I don’t see support for DeSantis as governor NOW as support for him to be POTUS later. We need more strong MAGA leaders who can step up if someone falters. The idea of having only one qualified person (DeSantis) to follow Trump is not wise (although I know sometimes there is a dearth of candidates).
The problem is, Trump is a unicorn.
Seriously, he is a once-in-a-generation type of character, and we are not going to get another with his combination of business experience, empathy for the common man, charisma, drive, and smarts. Not to mention he’s married to a super-model, his kids are great, and his brand is yuge.
Anyone other than Trump is not gonna be Trumpian enough to satisfy the base in 2024, if Trump himself appears capable of running again. Even if he begs off, people will not be accepting of it. His extreme popularity is a double-edged sword.

I’ve got a new piece of kit — the TP-LINK ER605. It is a strange beast.
The basics are simple and straightforward, but then you can bend it — and have 3 different WAN inputs and it will do load-balancing. In a box that’s 4x6x1 inches. Remember those guys that promised unlimited internet?
It’s nearly perfect for the “internal plumbing” role that I wanted it to fill — a way to put MY router under AT&T’s router so that I can control my routing. It has things like a USB port — that isn’t strictly for data storage — you can stick a network link on that interface and configure it as part of your system. Each LAN interface gets its own configuration — one can be 168.192.1.XXX and the next can be 168.192.2.XXX. Two of the LANs can be configured as WANs if you want to go that direction.
It doesn’t tolerate using 168.192.X.X on top and on bottom of its routing, and I haven’t tried accessing the world with IP4 and accessing the local LANs with IP4 and using IP6 for the layer in-between…..

I’m not much of a networking geek, by any means but I recognized that. And yes it’s exactly the sort of cranial flatulence that happens when your brain is not quite firing on all cylinders.
In Qubeville, I’m experimenting with making the thing boot faster. Also trying to separate audio handling into its own qube. (The Qubes developers are working on doing that with the graphics too…the logic being that the less code there is in the “master” VM (called dom0), the less there is for hackers to attack.)
Yeah, another part of it is that I was looking at the last parts and masks.
For instance, this router can hand out different IP addresses on different physical RJ-45 connectors. So, I can hand out 192.168.1.100 on port 1 and 192.168.2.100 on port 2. If the subnet masks are 255.255.0.0, they can see each other; if the subnet masks are 255.255.255.0, they can’t.
If you’re feeling particularly vicious, you can use a mask like 255.255.1.0 and only see odd or even subnets.
Incidentally, the router can also hand out addresses that look like 10.20.30.100.
Let’s see, there was a piece of trivia I encountered recently…..
Oh, yeah. On startup, Linux defaults to spinning-up disks one at a time, in fear their 1/4-HP spindle motors might create mini-brownouts if they all spun-up simultaneously.
This made little sense even for modern “spinning rust” drives, and makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER with SSD’s.
To see it, you can “dmesg | grep SSS”. To fix it, you add “libachi.ignore_sss=1” to GRUB.
of course, so what if an SSD has to wait for another SSD to spin up? Isn’t that like a zero second delay?
This isn’t even reading anything — it’s “spinning them up”. Waiting for data/actions isn’t handled in GRUB, it’s in systemd.
The thrust of my question is, why is it an issue, if “spinning them up” takes 0.000 seconds? Who cares, at that point whether its’ in parallel or seriatim…since the result is the same?
When it’s an SSD I honestly see nothing to “fix” here.
It’s got a hard-coded spin-up time that hearkens back to IBM 3340 Winchester drives. This is in the middle of GRUB, before anything becomes sentient.
Ahh…it’s using a bogus arbitrary time, not actually waiting for a “ready” signal from the drive (of course an SSD probably wouldn’t give one anyway, “Of course I’m ready, I was BORN ready.”
OK then.
My qubes box being entirely SSDs (all one of them), this might be an issue.
Like I said, I hit it as a random factoid, so I can’t guarantee — but it’s a weird part of GRUB…..sort of like how GRUB has to load LVM handling before it tries to boot off an LVM drive.
If you’re trying to optimize startup, you’re going to have to rummage in stuff like BIOS, GRUB, and systemd profiling more than is pleasant.

Yes we got dumped on by IAN here in the middle of NC. There was some wind damage (trees) flickering electric and we still have cold nasty weather but nothing like what Florida got.
We’re on our 3rd day of rain here in Jeff Van Drew country, with a couple more to go. I’ll for sure take it after the summer we had – two months straight of high 80s and 90s with next to no rain. No power issues. Generac revved up for it’s weekly 5 minutes this morning. I thank God daily for all of it.

@ 1:30:50 they placed open record requests for all 159 precincts and got to look at 66 counties despite the stonewalling. Of those 66 counties, 64 had the GLITCH that is 97%!!!
One of the counties with ‘clean’ machines had a problem just before the election and the machines were replaced. In the other case the county is tiny with only a couple hundred people so the Glitch man just not have been triggered.

The demilitarization of an enormous military, stocked for eight years and restocked feverishly from the bases and warehouses of 30 countries in NATO, is going very well. The Ukies had 750,000 men in trenches and fortified positions and embedded in big cities, shielded by civilians everywhere from Kiev to the smallest settlement in Donbass.Ukraine had a significant air force and stout air defenses with BUKs and S-300s in large numbers.
The Russians have reduced this order of battle markedly. The navy of Ukraine is gone. It has no functioning naval bases. The Ukie air defenses have been reduced to mobile radars and a few extant S-300s. The most effective air defense they have is the tactic of massing MANPADS and receiving real time alerts from NATO of oncoming Russian jets and helos. This has not stopped the Russian aerospace forces, though it is a hampering defense that has to be recognized as a threat. The Ukie air force is 95% gone, only replenished from NATO with aircraft that stay in the battle for minutes before they are reduced to losses.
Over 500,000 Ukies are gone, dead and forever off the battlefield. Thousands of mercs have been killed or chased off the battlefield.
The entire junior officer echelon of Ukraine is gone. US and NATO officers are the tactical commanders, as communications in the battlefield document. American and British voices give the commands. Videos are available as proof.
Every strategic offensive launched by Kiev (and the NATO command running their military) has been destroyed. The only ground they have gained is ground ceded in order to draw the Ukies into the open or to reposition Russian forces to better lines of defense.
The Ukies have lost forever Mariupol, Kherson, Melitopol, all of Lugansk, 65% of Donetsk, their access to the sea (except with Russian permission at Odessa), the air space over most of Ukraine, and sovereign control over their utilities and transport systems which exist only as long as the Russians allow. Ukraine is under its 4th total mobilization. By winter’s end it will have lost another 100,000 of their cannon fodder. Likely, too, they will have lost what they hold in Donetsk oblast.
The Russians have done this while exposing only 15% of their military. It is clear from signs in Chechnya, Kadyrov could gather 100,000 extra men who want to join the Chechen forces from the Caucuses and other brotherly muslim lands.
There are also ample signs that Syrians and some African fighters want to join Russia in the battle against the Hegemon. Another 100,000 foreigners could easily be brought to Ukraine, if needed.
So, Russia has enormous depth of reserves beyond its own manpower potential.
What the generals have done is send steel and explosives to demilitarize the Ukraine, not manpower. Artillery, bombs, rockets and missiles are fighting the war, saving Russian manpower while decimating Ukie force structure.
As I view the war, it is going very well for the mission Putin set.
Do I think it is optimal? If you take the SMO as a small part of a larger war (which it is in fact), this small war is going very well. Ukraine will be destroyed and NATO will have no proxy. NATO will have to send its own manpower. That stage of warfare will fracture the Alliance. The US will have to coerce a new proxy force to fight Russia out in the open sectors of Ukraine. They won’t be in fortified positions. And they won’t have civilians as shields.
If the US manages to spread the war into Poland and Belarus and Moldova, a few hypersonic missiles from Russia will quench the enthusiasm of those NATO countries, and Russia will join with Belarus in an overwhelming punishment of Poles and Baltics. If Kaliningrad is touched, the attackers will lose their capitals and HQs.
What the Russian military has not done does not indicate what it cannot do. The GS has a means to accomplish the goal of demilitarization and they are employing it. Strategically, the SMO is very successful. Pulling out of Izyum and Lyman are blips that don’t even factor in the military scheme of things. Pawns on the board.”

Three points. First, as indicated above this came up to the UN’s attention in the early 70’s, which means somethings were happening concerning weather manipulation years before that. If one could steer a hurricane into a place such as Central America or Mexico or make it take a little hop to miss New Orleans or directed it away from the oil refineries around Houston, instead of letting the hurricane take it’s natural course, it stands to reason if found out, tremendous law suits as big or bigger as the storms themselves would be the result.
Third point. While the technology is still secret as seems to be the case in all likelihood the US is no longer the only holder of that technology. My guess would be, China and Russia both have it, likely Great Britain and France too to protect their island territories. The others would be the Globalists who have access to everything worked on in university laboratories and the capability to get it from people who’ve moved on into private enterprise.

Amidst a continuing and intensifying 52-year peak flight to liquidity in August 2022, Basic Money Supply (Currency plus Demand Deposits) — the best leading indicator of money-driven inflation — surged anew to an unprecedented 122.1% of its pre-Pandemic level, up from July’s 114.4% reading, up 12.7% year-to-year in August from 10.4% in July, while the broader money measures M2 and M3 began to stagnate. The Monetary Base increased as previously estimated by ShadowStats in August, although it appears to have pulled back some in September and a similar early assessment of that series, with a decline in Bank Reserves, nonetheless with another historic high level for Currency in Circulation.”
Essentially, the Depression that began at the transition from Bush to Obama continues, the key as usual being Genuine GDP, which Shadowstats comes closest to getting right. Since the Empire’s population continues to grow while Genuine GDP declines, actual purchasing power declines as does social mobility, yet inflation remains over 17%. Of course, the situation in Europe is dire. Eurasia however continues to thrive. One big test will be dollarized debt servicing in the Global South as very few nations want IMF “help”. Clearly, the world’s nations must increase their efforts to dedollarize trade as not doing so merely continues the dollar hegemony crisis instead of resolving it.

It seems to me that if rising prices are the result of actual shortages, rather than just too much fiat money, you don’t necessarily want to go doing all those things that you do to “fight inflation.” But, I think they’re implying that when they state that prices are going up due to a “supply shock”
Or to put it another way, rising prices aren’t necessarily due to an over-expansion of the money supply (which is fundamentally an increase in demand, at least as denominated in dollars); there could be genuine scarcity mucking with the other side of supply and demand.
