Back In My Day: Baseball and Arkansas? Why?

At one time earlier in my life, the state of Arkansas became my “field of dreams” for some reason that I still cannot determine. This series will explore the next dozen years of my life after high school graduation. This part will provide background and set the stage for what follows.

Background

I left my family’s saga of Coal Country in the early 1950’s with travel north on the Hillbilly Highway. One of their stops was in Portsmouth, Ohio, where the DOD was building atomic research and development facilities. I was born there. The same year in which I was born, the construction phase of the project was winding down. My father began interviewing for a new job and landed one as a surveyor/engineer for a large construction contractor for Armco Steel in southwest Ohio. It was there where I grew up. A steel mill brat in the middle of the cornfields between the two large metropolitan areas of Cincinnati and Dayton. However, for the next 18 years our family piled in the station wagon and headed south back to Coal Country for a weekend every 2-3 weeks.

We lived in that steel mill town until I hit 8th grade, when we moved to a smaller community nearby where I finished high school. Our family had no money to send me to a major state or a private university. My choices were to earn a scholarship, borrow money beyond what I could earn from a summer job, or commute to a branch of a nearby college. I had many small college offers to play football. However, they did not offer athletic scholarships and we could not afford the cost. Then one day in March before I graduated, a scholarship offer came in the mail to play baseball for a state university in Arkansas. A state and place none of my family knew anything about at all. We had not had any contact with them prior to receipt of the letter. The offer was combined with academics and all I had to do was maintain a 3.0 or better GPA to keep it until graduating. We learned that the cost of living in Arkansas was low, so my summer jobs could provide the spending money I needed each year.

None of us bothered to ask why or how I got the offer. It was a dream come true for my father, who had played semi-pro ball in the coal mining camp leagues. He had raised me a Cincinnati Reds fan and we enjoyed following the team together. What I would give now for this, just like we used to do in the backyard.

Baseball was my second best sport. We had a terrible team and a gym teacher who barely knew the game as coach. I had some talent, but how would anybody even know? I was not interested in a potential Naval Academy appointment. Vietnam was ending and I had learned too much from older friends about military life during those days. Will defend my country and people to my last breath. Go fight foreign wars for the Military Industrial Complex and Communists to profit – not happening even as an 18 year old.

Yup.

As a family we never really discussed how or why I received a baseball offer from a place that had not even contacted me before the offer. I responded to the offer letter with my interest and they sent the enrollment application. I filled it out and they sent the acceptance with the instructions and checklist of items that I needed to bring. The scholarship offer was real. A few months later I was off to Arkansas with my family. No car, stay in a dorm, walk everywhere and with just enough money to live.

I was notified to show up to meet my head coach and teammates. Most of us were assigned to the same wing of the dorm for those who did not live off campus. We started fall practice later that week as classes began. My first observations of the coach were that he was very old and slow. In fact, he fell asleep standing in the third base coaches box during one game, which was really funny except he could have been hurt or killed by a line drive down the foul line. He had a great reputation, but clearly had one foot out the door toward retiring. The assistant coach seemed to know the game though.

I had chosen a Business major for a BS degree. After I arrived on campus I learned that the school had a strong regional reputation in that field of study. When I saw the professor line up I knew why. A prominent law professor who had survived the Bataan death march in the Philippines in WW II, the state Board of Accountancy’s President, a prominent internationally acclaimed Greek economics professor, a statistics and finance professor who was well connected with the state’s banking industry, and so on. I learned that in that region of the delta, the deep south’s financial and business community filled many of their employment openings with grads from that business school.

I bought in. I had no idea about any of that beforehand. It just worked out that way.

For what it is worth, my collegiate baseball career lasted exactly one season as a bench warmer. There was a strong junior performer already at my position. I got in two games, had one hit, and clearly was not going to become a professional at some point in my life. As things go, a devastating tornado hit the town and part of the campus one week after the spring semester and the season ended. I had already returned home for the summer. Lives were lost and damages were extensive. The baseball field was a casualty. They informed us that the next season would be limited and any home games played at the local high school. Options were presented to honor the scholarship and remain a student without being a player, to transfer, or to play the limited season. I said goodbye to playing baseball and chose to remain a student.

The next three years were spent taking a full load of classes, having fun occasionally, working part time jobs 20-30 hours per week, and getting serious with a couple of ladies before settling on one who also settled on me. Life was busy. Being a poor boy from a hard working construction/steel mill family background in the Midwest with Coal Country roots, I had no idea what being married into an Old South plantation farming family would be like. But people are people, right? I would learn and adapt.

Time To Find A Job

As I was preparing to graduate I interviewed for jobs through the school’s placement office and settled on a management trainee position I wanted to pursue with the state’s third largest banking institution. The owners of which also owned a local bank in that college town and were friends with my business statistics and finance professor. A good reference from him and off I went to Little Rock to interview with all of the big dogs in the bank along with a number of other recent grads from around the state. If I made the cut for one of the three positions I would be called back for a final interview with the bank’s contracted psychologist.

That meant nothing to me then. I just assumed it was a normal part of the process. It’s a huge red flag to me now.

My interviews with the top brass went well. I have always been able to see people as getting in their britches/pants/slacks the same way I do. I was respectful and answered all of their questions, went to lunch with them. Since the owner and interview team knew the school well and some of my professors, it was easy to connect.

A few days later they contacted the placement office and requested I come for the final interview with the psychologist. I drove the three hours to his office and a couple of the bank’s officers were there who had interviewed me previously. They explained that the psychologist was used by many major corporations as well as by the Dallas Cowboys for coach and player interviews. Wow. I felt special and a bit scared at that point. I was getting married in one month and needed to nail down this job so we could finish our preparations. My eggs had been placed in that one basket as I had moved on from other options. However, I wondered why they were going to this extent for an entry level college grad management trainee position for which they would take a year preparing me before being placed in the position best suited for my abilities?

There were three final candidates for the three positions that had to interview with the psychologist. So I played the game when it was my turn. My sincerity rang true to him. I would be a stable addition as I was marrying and moving to our future in the state capital in a line of work I was suited for and enjoyed. I would be a company soldier and commit to the process. Etc. etc.

They offered jobs to all three of us the next day. They told me to report minus my mustache and to get a banker’s hair cut. Check. They took me to the cheap suit store downtown where all the bankers went and I spent a couple hundred dollars on work attire. Initially I would make just enough to pay our anticipated bills while my future, already wealthy wife would interview for work in her chosen fashion industry. We were set. So I rented an apartment in town and moved furniture and possessions there over the next couple of weeks. Time to get married.

The Year Was 1976.

A young power couple by the names of Bill and Hillary Clinton had married the year before and were practicing law in Little Rock. When I arrived in town to start on my job, Slick had already been announced as the future state AG. Other than in NW Arkansas, only Dems won political races in the state during those days. I will not spend time on Slick’s legendary libido and coke snorting or Cankles’ grating personality, ego and rants. Those are well documented by others. What I will spend time on is how the good ole boys club worked with the related politicians and business leaders back then because I personally saw two years of it inside the walls of my employer and another three years of it later on the board of a PAC with a different employer.

I learned the psychologist’s primary role was to determine future competency expectations as well as loyalty to the mission. It was clear once I had worked there for several months that we would learn things that needed to remain quiet and confidential even if they were potentially unethical or even illegal. To a limited degree we would learn who many of the major players were on the state and national stage along with how they played the game at times. That also needed to stay quiet for obvious reasons. They would only reveal a small amount as you gained experience and they developed trust in you. The rest you figured out from observation and discussing with other employees.

On a lighter note, I knew I had earned a mini-position of trust when they sent me to War Memorial Stadium to pick up the bank’s tickets for Arkansas Razorback football games that fall. Half of their home game schedule was played in Little Rock in those days and I would be the guy that picked them up and delivered to the VIPs. My benefit for doing so was receipt of two free tickets for my wife and I to go and to yes, wear hog hats and call the pigs. When in Rome, do as the Romans…

Pig, sooie?

Conclusion

The next parts will focus on the people of note and personal observations over the next nine years of my life before permanently leaving that region for good, thankfully. Some of you who have lived as long or longer than I may remember some or all of the names.

I posted the video below on a recent daily. For those who did not see it, an hour well spent in my opinion. You will understand better what Mena was all about as well as the degree of cover up that existed in government and its agencies even back then. The world stage and level of evil has far surpassed what is even presented here.

Until next time…

Scary Neighbors in the Age of Democratic Totalitarianism

f ideology is the unreachable perfection of human governance, then politics is the direction we happen to be facing while considering our next move to that end.

The Globalist Climate Agenda is a Crime Against Humanity

The primary target of the “sustainability” movement is fossil fuel, the burning of which allegedly is causing catastrophic climate change. Heedless of the fact that fossil fuel provides more than 80 percent of all energy consumed worldwide, banks, hedge funds and institutional investors throughout the Western world are using ESG criteria (environment, social, governance), to deny the financing necessary to maintain or build new fossil fuel infrastructure.

It’s working. Pressure from governments, international NGOs, and global finance is now delivering unprecedented shifts in policies around the world, creating needless scarcity and turmoil.

War Against the Modern World

Spend enough time on Reddit or Twitter and you’ll hear plenty about these “Traditionalists.” It is said they are quietly seizing control of right-wing groups all throughout the West. They control everyone from Vladimir Putin to Donald Trump to King Charles III. And they pose a threat far greater than Christian nationalism.

Had they but world enough and time, the Traditionalists would (quite literally) bring us back to the year zero. They are at war with Modernity itself. They would tear down liberal democracy and build a great pagan reich on its smoldering ruins. And, with each passing day, they come just a little bit closer to their goal.

As with all conspiracy theories, there’s a kernel of truth at the center. (Anyone who doubts the existence of elite satanic pedophiles should google “Herod Antipas.”) Before we can separate that kernel from all the hot, buttery fluff, we have to learn a little more about Traditionalism itself. And we should start by making a distinction between the School’s two main branches: the Guénonians and the Evolians.

Advice from a conservative therapist

Asked for her opinions about the mental health crisis among young people, Bridge replied, “Kids spend way too much time on social media and not enough time in relationships. Not enough time outside. Not enough time eating good, healthy food.” Daum admits it “sounds pretty logical to me” but it’s clear that the two of them inhabit very different worlds. Eventually we get to the question I just knew was coming.

Daum: Do you think that Donald Trump made everybody go crazy?

Bridge: What do you mean by “made everybody go crazy”?

Daum: In my world, I know a lot of people who were so distressed about the election of Trump that they had to go on anxiety medication. They couldn’t sleep. It dominated their lives, their goals, their thoughts, their relationships, their conversations for four years and even to this day.

Bridge: That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Why would you let one person in the world control your life? Are you that weak?

‘Lender of Last Resort’ Passes It On

Like, Joe, who was to blame for the Crash of 2008 and the Great Recession, whatever? Oh yeah, I remember now. “Greedy bankers” was the agreed-upon narrative of your devoted regime scribes. Er, no, silly boy. The proximate cause of the Great Recession was Little Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Fed, who decided in September 2008 that he didn’t have the authority to bail out Lehman Brothers after the jolly old inflationary real-estate boom of the 2000s.

Ben, oh Ben!  Didn’t you know that the one and only justification for the Federal Reserve System — apart from its vitally important role to print all the money that’s fit to print – is to act as the “lender of last resort?”

Our Own Little Hills

Thanks to the protected life of leisure most Americans enjoy today, it seems unfathomable now that the fight for independence was fought in the very farms, fields, streets, yards, alleyways, and hills surrounding the colonials’ homes.  It is said that at least 20,000 colonists were killed during the Revolutionary War.  How many families destroyed?  How many homes torched?  Crops burned?  Personal effects taken?  The questions are endless, as was the devastation and despair.  The ultimate price that so many men and women paid with their own blood, sweat, and tears, in the belief that there was something better, to form a more perfect union, a union that they themselves would never experience.  How does one even begin to repay that favor?

I once naively believed that the fight for the freedoms our patriots provided us, the American Dream, was over.  That we won our independence, and now we’ll always be protected from the tyranny and oppression thanks to our Constitution, and that we’ll all have freedoms most people around the world can only dream of thanks to the Bill of Rights.  I was so naïve.  As I became more and more interested in American politics, and in turn, political history, the more I became acutely aware that the fight for our freedoms is never over.  It may be on the back burner for awhile, simmering quietly, but it never goes away.  Eventually, that pot on the back burner boils over if you’re not paying enough attention to it.

POPULISM RELOAD: AN INTERVIEW WITH STEPHEN K. BANNON

Mark Granza: Giorgia Meloni was elected Premier of Italy on Sunday. You’ve worked very closely with her in the past. Did you call her to congratulate her on the victory?

Steve Bannon: Let’s say we communicated our support beforehand and we communicated our great thrill at her amazing victory.

Mark Granza: What do you think her party’s victory signifies for the future of Populism in the West?

Steve Bannon: Oh, it’s a major victory. When I first met her, the party was polling at 2%. So that shows populists the importance of doing the work. She’s a perfect example. Somebody who just grinded through, worked hard, built up, and ended up with 26% of the vote, with virtually no money, right? Brothers of Italy is not a well-funded organization. So I think the lesson for every person out there, particularly in Europe, is: you can do this. But of course it takes hard work and also a real understanding of the issues you’re addressing – and she really does. She’s been going to these conferences around Europe talking about the importance of God, Homeland and Family, and she stuck to it. So I think that’s the biggest lesson for politicians around the world: it’s just not going to happen. It’s not going to be dumped in your lap. You can’t just sit on social media and complain, bitch and moan. You have to do the work.

Around Hunter Biden, Whole Lotta Spyin’ Goin’ On

The reason this is news again is that apparently there’s a whistleblower who’s come forward to confirm that, yes, she was a spy. But back in January of this year, Peter Schweizer, in his book Red-Handed, mentioned her by name and said she’d been employed by the Chinese government’s National Development and Reform Commission as a research assistant. Then she went to work for an investment firm called OpenGate Capital, which had known ties to the CCP. So, along with her move to the CEFC, her employment history shows a solid association with the Chi-Comms. And in 2017, when Hunter Biden went into business with CEFC, she was “assigned” to him. It’s hard to imagine they would “assign” any person to him who wouldn’t be spying.

As House Oversight Committee member James Comer of Kentucky says, it’s yet another “national security nightmare” connected to Hunter Biden. JiaQi (“Jackie”) Bao certainly did prove invaluable to Hunter in brokering the deal between CEFC and natural gas suppliers in the U.S.

And why would a short-term Chinese assistant be so interested in getting “Uncle Joe” elected as President?

There is a Global War on Women, and Western Feminists are War Profiteers

So whatever group the left selects as its strategic target of compassion makes the cut not because of genuine suffering or injustice, but because it has been identified as a potentially lucrative ally — rich in votes, or cash, or opportunities to manipulate and control people emotionally. That’s why leftists can weep real tears over hulking male athletes who wish to mow down girls on the rugby field or pummel them in boxing rings. Then coldly shrug as a majority of unborn black New Yorkers die in the womb.

Now you understand why Western feminists are busy denouncing the slightest protections for unborn children as a “war on women,” and eerily silent on the real, bloody persecution of women around the world. How many residents of Martha’s Vineyard, or writers for women’s magazines, are speaking up about what’s happening in Afghanistan? “What’s happening there?” you might ask, since it’s barely being reported.

Major Medical Orgs Demand That The DOJ Prosecute People Who Share ‘Misleading’ Information Online

The American Medical Association (AMA) sent Attorney General Merrick Garland a letter Monday calling on him to “investigate the organizations, individuals, and entities coordinating, provoking, and carrying out bomb threats and threats of personal violence against children’s hospitals and physicians across the U.S.”

“The attacks are rooted in an intentional campaign of disinformation, where a few high-profile users on social media share false and misleading information targeting individual physicians and hospitals, resulting in a rapid escalation of threats, harassment, and disruption of care across multiple jurisdictions,” the AMA, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) said in the letter. “Our organizations have called on technology companies to do more to prevent this practice on digital platforms, and we now urge your office to take swift action to investigate and prosecute all organizations, individuals, and entities responsible.”

They’re going to go after Matt Walsh. Using the DoJ. For reporting what happens in hospitals where money is put ahead of ethics and sense.

Above all the noise

In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? — Psalm 120:1 – 3

It was not so long ago that I recall reading the story of a man who was being discussed in the news for something he had said years ago. What he said was not good, but it was said many years ago. Now, over 30 years later, he was being forced out of a job and ridiculed in the news stories.

The interesting thing was that this man had obviously changed his life. Since he had made those statements, he had professed his faith in God. That didn’t matter to anyone. I can only imagine the feelings that this man had. There was a lot of noise going on around him and I wonder if he felt like no one could hear him above the noise.

That seems to be the same situation that the psalmist is writing about here. He starts out by saying that he was able to call out to the Lord and that the Lord heard him. Why was he calling out and needing to be heard? Because the psalmist felt surrounded by a lot of noise. Lying lips, deceitful tongues, and those who wished to slander him. The psalmist asked God for deliverance from these things.

Josef Mengele Accepts New Role As President Of The American Medical Association

CHICAGO, IL — To help support its recent efforts to conduct grotesque gender experiments on young children, the American Medical Association has appointed famed Nazi doctor Josef Mengele as its new president.

“We can think of no one better to represent our prestigious organization than Dr. Mengele,” said an AMA spokesman. “His incredible skill at performing gruesome amputations and mutilations on children has earned him a stellar reputation in the gender-affirming surgery community. Welcome to our community, Dr. Mengele!”

The AMA has reaffirmed its commitment to helping its members make millions by grooming, drugging, chemically castrating, and dismembering children. In addition, they are calling on the DOJ to investigate anyone who disagrees with what they’re doing. “We will never stop protecting a doctor’s fundamental right to get rich by acting out his sick kinks on children, er… I mean, provide gender-affirming healthcare,” said the spokesperson.

Doctors are being warned that any opposition to Mengele’s experiments on children will have their AMA membership revoked.

Of course, this does not mean committing felonies, but standing up to the forces that want to tear this nation – and humanity apart. The very people XVII told us will be destroyed by the time this movie comes to an end are currently roaming the halls of power…supposedly. It’s a sickening sight.

Guidelines for posting and discussion on this site were outlined by our host, WolfM00n. Please, review them from time to time.

The discourse on this site is to be CIVIL – no name calling, baiting, or threatening others here is allowed. Those who are so inclined may visit Wolf’s other sanctuary, the U-Tree, to slog it out. There is also a “rescue” thread there for members of the Tree to rendezvous if the main site goes kablooey. A third site has been added for site outages of longer duration.

This site is a celebration of the natural rights endowed to humans by our Creator as well as those enshrined in the Bill of Rights adopted in the founding documents of the United States of America. Within the limits of law, how we exercise these rights is part of the freedom of our discussion.

Fellow tree dweller, the late Wheatie, gave us some good reminders on the basics of civility in political discourse:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

And Auntie DePat’s requests:

If you see something has not been posted, do us all a favor, and post it. Please, do not complain that it has not been done yet.

The scroll wheel on your mouse can be your friend. As mature adults, please use it here in the same manner you would in avoiding online porn.

Thank you so much for any and all attention to such details. It is GREATLY appreciated by more than one party here.

MATTHEW 11:25-30

25At that time Jesus declared, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; 26yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. 27All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

WHEATIE – OUR WARRIOR ANGEL

by Duchess01

Please forgive us, Wheatie, we did not know
That you had left us with armor in tow
We had no idea with what you dealt
We did not know the pain you felt
And now we can only imagine
With you what really did happen
Cause rarely did you complain
And/or share your personal pain
Of one thing we are most certain
You are flying high behind the curtain
Watching over us above the crowds
Our Warrior Angel above the clouds
Thank You, Wheatie, for caring for us
While you were here among the fuss
We miss you dear you have no idea
Since time began in the pangaea
With you there was no time
In your wisdom you would chime
To clarify and magnify
The what where how and why
We did not question when you left
We were not slightly bereft
But over time we wondered why
You did not at least stop by
Now we know where you have gone
With the break of this new dawn
We could be angry but are not
Tho with an arrow we’ve been shot
Rest peacefully Warrior Angel dear
Send us a sign that you are near
A butterfly a flower a kiss of rain
From your love do not refrain
God sends Angels to watch over us
And now we have an Angel Plus
A Warrior Angel of Magnificence
From today and forward hence

The Rules

Just in case you were wondering where PEDO MUPPETS GO……

TL;DR –

Wheatie’s Rules:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

Boilerplate, more or less, but worth reading again and again, if only for the minor changes, and to stay out of moderation.

The bottom line is Free Speech. Theories and ideas you don’t agree with must be WELCOME here, and you must be part of that welcoming. But you do NOT need to be part of any agreement.

Bottom line – respect other people’s FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS.

Our only additional requirement is that you do so NICELY. Or at least try to make some effort in that direction.

SO….. [ENGAGE BOILERPLATE…..]

We must endeavor to persevere to love our frenemies – even here.

Those who cannot deal with this easy requirement will be forced to jump the hoops of moderation, so that specific comments impugning other posters and violating the minimal rules can be sorted out and tossed in the trash.

In Wheatie’s words, “We’re on the same side here so let’s not engage in friendly fire.”

That includes the life skill of just ignoring certain other posters.

We do have a site – The U Tree – where civility is not a requirement. Interestingly, people don’t really go there much. Nevertheless, if you find yourself in an “argument” that can’t really stay civil, please feel free to “take it to the U Tree”. The U Tree is also a good place to report any technical difficulties, if you’re unable to report them here. Please post your comment there on one of Wolf’s posts, or in reply to one of Wolf’s comments, to make sure he sees it (though it may take a few hours).

We also have a backup site, called The Q Tree as well, which is really The Q Tree 579486807. You might call it “Second Tree”. The URL for that site is https://theqtree579486807.wordpress.com/. If this site (theqtree.com) ever goes down, please reassemble at the Second Tree.

If the Second Tree goes down, please go to The U Tree, or to our Gab Group, which is located at https://gab.com/groups/4178.

We also have some “old rules” and important guidelines, outlined here, in a very early post, on our first New Year’s Day, in 2019. The main point is not to make violent threats against people, which then have to be taken seriously by law enforcement, and which can be used as a PRETEXT by enemies of this site.

In the words of Wheatie, “Let’s not give the odious Internet Censors a reason to shut down this precious haven that Wolf has created for us.”

A Moment of Prayer

Our policy on extreme religious freedom on this site is discussed HERE. Please feel free to pray and praise God anytime and anywhere.

Thus, please pray for our real President, the one who actually won the election.

You may also pray for our nation, our world, and even our enemies.

On this day and every day –

God is in Control
. . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . .
Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet,
and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Sowers and Seed

The sod is untouched by plow or harrow
No rows are marked, either straight or narrow
Our Dear Father comes to make the crop grow
The question lingers, “What seed did you sow?”

Parable of the Growing Seed (Mark 4:26-29)?

26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”

The first thing we notice about this parable is its similarity to the Parable of the Sower in Mark 4:2-9. In some ways, this parable expands on Jesus’ teaching of how the “good soil” (a receptive heart) receives the “seed” (the Word of God).

In the Parable of the Growing Seed, Jesus tells of a man who scatters seed on the ground and then allows nature to take its course. As the man who sowed the seed goes about his business day by day, the seed begins to have an effect. First, the seed sprouts; then it produces a stalk and leaves, then a head of grain, and, finally, fully developed kernels in the head. Jesus emphasizes that all of this happens without the man’s help. The man who scattered the seed cannot even fully understand how it happens—it is simply the work of nature. “All by itself the soil produces” (verse 28).

The parable ends with a harvest. As soon as the grain is ripe, the sickle is employed, and the seed is harvested. This happens at just the right time.

Jesus did not explain this parable, as He did some others. Instead, He left it to us to understand its meaning. Taking the seed to be the Word of God, as in Mark 4:14, we can interpret the growth of the plants as the working of God’s Word in individual hearts. The fact that the crop grows without the farmer’s intervention means that God can accomplish His purposes even when we are absent or unaware of what He’s doing. The goal is the ripened grain. At the proper time, the Word will bring forth its fruit, and the Lord of the harvest (Luke 10:2) will be glorified.

The truth of this parable is well illustrated in the growth of the early church: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow” (1 Corinthians 3:6). Just like a farmer cannot force a crop to grow, an evangelist cannot force spiritual life or growth on others.

To summarize the point of the Parable of the Growing Seed: “The way God uses His Word in the heart of an individual is mysterious and completely independent of human effort.” May we be faithful in “sowing the seed,” praying for a harvest, and leaving the results to the Lord!

Parable of the Sower

The Parable of the Sower (also known as the Parable of the Four Soils) is found in Matthew 13:3-9; Mark 4:2-9; and Luke 8:4-8. After presenting this parable to the multitude, Jesus interprets it for His disciples in Matthew 13:18-23; Mark 4:13-20; and Luke 8:11-15.

The Parable of the Sower concerns a sower who scatters seed, which falls on four different types of ground. The hard ground “by the way side” prevents the seed from sprouting at all, and the seed becomes nothing more than bird food. The stony ground provides enough soil for the seeds to germinate and begin to grow, but because there is “no deepness of earth,” the plants do not take root and are soon withered in the sun. The thorny ground allows the seed to grow, but the competing thorns choke the life out of the beneficial plants. The good ground receives the seed and produces much fruit.

Jesus’ explanation of the Parable of the Sower highlights four different responses to the gospel. The seed is “the word of the kingdom.” The hard ground represents someone who is hardened by sin; he hears but does not understand the Word, and Satan plucks the message away, keeping the heart dull and preventing the Word from making an impression. The stony ground pictures a man who professes delight with the Word; however, his heart is not changed, and when trouble arises, his so-called faith quickly disappears. The thorny ground depicts one who seems to receive the Word, but whose heart is full of riches, pleasures, and lusts; the things of this world take his time and attention away from the Word, and he ends up having no time for it. The good ground portrays the one who hears, understands, and receives the Word—and then allows the Word to accomplish its result in his life. The man represented by the “good ground” is the only one of the four who is truly saved, because salvation’s proof is fruit (Matthew 3:7-8; 7:15-20).

To summarize the point of the Parable of the Sower: “A man’s reception of God’s Word is determined by the condition of his heart.” A secondary lesson would be “Salvation is more than a superficial, albeit joyful, hearing of the gospel. Someone who is truly saved will go on to prove it.” May our faith and our lives exemplify the “good soil” in the Parable of the Sower.

RALLY THREAD: Save America – Warren, MI, October 1, 2022

About Warren, Michigan:

Beebe’s Corners, the original settlement in what would become the city of Warren, was founded in 1830 at the corner of Mound Road and Chicago Road; its first resident was Charles Groesbeck.[7] Beebe’s Corners was a carriage stop between Detroit and Utica, and included a distillery, mill, tavern, and trading post.[7][8] It was not until 1837 that the now-defunct Warren Township was organized around the settlement, first under the name Hickory, then renamed Aba in April 1838, and finally renamed Warren shortly thereafter.[9] It was named for War of 1812 veteran, and frontier cleric, Rev. Abel Warren. However, when it was originally organized the township was named for Rev. Warren who was a Methodist Episcopal preacher who left his native New York in 1824 for Shelby Township. He went throughout the present-day MacombLapeerOakland, and St. Clair Counties, baptizing, marrying, and burying pioneers of the area, as well as establishing congregations and preaching extensively.[10] He was the first licensed preacher in the State of Michigan.[11]

Another version of the source of the city’s name claims it was “named for General Joseph Warren, who fell at the Battle of Bunker Hill.[12]

The settlement was formally incorporated as the Village of Warren from Warren Township on April 28, 1893 out of one square mile bound by 14 Mile Road and 13 Mile Road to the north and south, and in half-a-mile east and west of Mound Road.[7] The small village grew slowly, and had a population of 582 in 1940 and 727 in 1950, while the larger surrounding township grew at a much quicker pace.[13] Much of this growth was due to the construction of the Chrysler’s Truck Assembly plant in 1938, the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant in 1940 to support the WW II effort, and the General Motors Technical Center between 1949 and 1956.

The Red Run and Bear Creek, just small creeks back in the 1800s, has blossomed into an open major inter-county stormdrain flowing through Warren, into the Clinton River, and onwards to Lake St. Clair.[14]

The Village of Warren and most of the surrounding Township of Warren, together with Van Dyke, incorporated as a city in 1957, less the city of Center Line, which had incorporated as a village from Warren Township in 1925 and as a city in 1936.[9] Between 1950 and 1960, Warren’s population soared from 42,653 to 89,426. This population explosion was largely fueled by the post-WWII Baby Boom and later, by white flight from its southern neighbor of Detroit in that decade. This change in population continued into the next decade when the city’s population doubled again, ultimately reaching a high of 179,000 in 1970.

The subsequent decades have seen Warren’s population decline, while violent crime has increased. Combined with collapsing housing prices, down -53% between 2011 and 2016, this has led Warren to a number 7 ranking in Forbes’ Most Miserable Cities to Live in the US; joining two other Michigan cities, Detroit and Flint, in the Top 10.[15]

2022·10·01 Every One Knows Joe Biden Didn’t Win Daily Thread

Was I The Reason?

I’m skipping all the boilerplate invective this week, as fun as it is. Because something just occurred to me.

Let me quote, at length, from my own post about January 6. Or you can look at the original: https://www.theqtree.com/2021/01/09/2021%c2%b701%c2%b709-kmag-daily-thread/ (On the sidebar it’s “Steve’s House Rally Photo Thread”

At some point I got hit with a light dose of something or other. I beat a bit of a retreat but someone got to the top of the scaffolding with an American flag.

Fourth And Final Dump of Pictures

The next thing I remember, after getting close in, is a gas cartridge landing about ten feet away from me. I had already gotten light exposure twice to something that made one cough, and once to something that also stung when you inhaled it. Sticking around here would no doubt entail more than light exposure. I backed away.

This photo was timestamped six second later than the previous one.

When the smoke cleared, I noticed people charging up the steps. Lots of people charging up the steps. In fact I can see them in the prior picture too if I blow it up.

Breached!

OK, that ends the quote.

Note that I missed the key moment…the moment the people on that stairway started to pour through.

They got through, right after the tear gas landed right next to me.

Let me remind you what I was doing…I was near that stairway, with a camera.

Not a phone, a “real” camera, with an 18-200 mm lens. It’s a lot smaller than it sounds but still, it’s gear in a way that a phone is not. Also, but not visible from the outside (unless someone recognizes the camera model), this little camera takes 32 megapixel pictures. (What I posted on the thread was considerably reduced in size!)

Was that tear gas canister…which landed less than ten feet away from me…fired specifically for the purpose of distracting me while they let the stairway people breach the line?

Maybe, maybe not. But the timing and placement of that canister and the “breach” sure makes me wonder.

The timestamp for the first picture I took after the gas canister hit was 1:19:36 MST. This picture is the first one above with the cloud of tear gas. The camera numbered it #3175.

(Note: That is almost certainly not the right time. I routinely forget to adjust the clock on my camera when I bring it out for use…which is sporadically. And the camera’s clock isn’t all that accurate, it slips from the correct time greatly over the span of a few months. But the time stamps can be used to establish relative timing.)

The timestamp for the last picture I took before that (#3174) was 1:17:46. It’s similar to the last one in my post before the tear gas, which was #3157…that was taken at 1:17:30. (Yes, I took seventeen 32 megapixel pictures in 16 seconds…and the camera didn’t break a sweat; it can do 15 per second for half a minute before the buffer fills up and it chokes. And, by the way, this is not even, by a long shot, the best camera that company makes. This is a fairly small camera whose design emphasis was portability.)

It’s a damned shame I wasn’t taking video. (The last video I took, 2:22 seconds worth, was of the stairway, culminating in some guy in a blue coat getting pepper sprayed. Screen capture (also in my original post) below):

The video (numbered #2944) is time stamped 1:00:58…almost nineteen minutes before the grenade. I don’t know if that’s the start time or the end time. The video is 1080p and you will never see a Bigfoot video of remotely that quality.

Like I said it’s a damn shame I wasn’t videoing at the right time.

Of course these days everyone has a camera with them, in their cell phone, so a lot of cops abusing citizens (and “model citizens” abusing cops) get filmed by passers-by these days, to say nothing of dash cams, body cams, and so on. But at this rally, only a small fraction of people were using their cameras. Most were busy waving flags, and yelling and screaming. Some people put gopros and similar things on poles, but for all I knew they were “media” or Antifa plants or even undercover cops, and therefore harmless to “them.” In fact, I’m at least a bit confident that those guys with cameras on poles were gone by the time the grenade hit.

So anyone else with a “real” camera (interchangeable lens) might have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Out of all those people, did I have to be distracted?

Like I said, I’ll never know.

OK now for the fine print.

This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Poltical correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines,  here, with an addendum on 20191110.

We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.

And remember Wheatie’s Rules:

1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. Zeroth rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government get your guns.
5. Rule one of gun safety: The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Rule two of gun safety: Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Rule three: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Rule the fourth: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

(Hmm a few extras seem to have crept in.)
