And we were equally stunned the other day when news broke that George Will was likewise promoting the Democrat candidate in South Carolina. Of course, what stunned us the most was that George Will still exists. His decline to bitter establishmentarianism started long ago, which is when we stopped listening. It’s hard to understand how influential he was decades ago, although George Will was always like Peggy Noonan without the testosterone. People used to actually think of him as the touchstone of conservatism, but time has made clear that the performative Republicanism of these guys was just that – a performance. It was an act, a mask, a brand.
I would have bet money that he had passed on to The Great Beyond.

I’ve seen a couple of commenters say that the Left is fine with killing babies and even young children, but they want to do this to make sure the kids are okay-?
Instead, I think this is a Big Brother tactic to supposedly make sure the mother is mentally okay and won’t kill her children. It’s completely unacceptable government intrusion, done in the guise of virtue signaling about how vigilant they are going to be about everyone’s well-being.
This needs to backfire so hard they will never get over it.

I have multiple comments which back up your suspicions, but let me start by simply saying it’s actually worse than you suspect.
(1) This is all very similar to child welfare visitations when complaints by neighbors have been made, and while those can be effective for purpose in red districts, they are both wasteful and politicized in deep blue shitholes. Typically, in deep blue shitholes, the intolerable is tolerated, and the abusable is abused. This is so bad, that many lawyers will advise NOT calling Child Protective Services EVER in certain cities, due to the danger that they will make the situation worse. Those lawyers will advise letting things get bad enough to call the cops.
(2) The similarity to the Nazi meddling that my mom endured is just out in the open. In retrospect, with time and distance, it’s clear to me that this similar program had a lot to do with how they handled the family, deciding who went where. Socialists are, deep down, all the same. Your life is their business. Even abortion is their business – it’s just that they want to make sure it’s an option for you.
(3) This is eerily similar to programs within the Obama-mandated health insurance companies, where they try to get their workers to visit into homes, even offering monetary and non-monetary incentives. I had an acquaintance who had previously worked for a US intelligence agency before coming to “Shallow State”, and that person, on multiple occasions, WARNED ME to NEVER give in to these requests – to NEVER let these people into our house. More concretely, I was advised to never even pick up the phone and talk to them. Never answer any text messages. Ignore all mail and phone calls – never respond, even if they said that I had to for some reason. Obviously, this was great advice.
So – yes – even if this becomes LAW in your state, someday, ignoring all attempts to enter the home may be advisable.
