how are you and your wound doing these days???
I finally went into the wound care guys last Monday (tale told elsewhere). They put on a “boot” of something, filled with magic goo, told me to keep it dry, and they’d take it off next Monday. Further, they told me to wear a compression stocking on my other leg (which I finally did yesterday after showering with a Hefty bag).
Today, Amazon is supposed to deliver a “cast protector” ($18) to improve the quality of my showers. After I shower, I’ll put the uncomfortable compression sock back on.
I remember you telling us about all that. is it painful? itchy? do you need to keep it elevated except for when you are running marathons?
The leg with the “boot” feels stiff and has twinges — even in places there isn’t a divot in my leg.
The leg with the compression stockings feels constricted and pinched.
And I suspect the compression socks are giving me a headache.

after i broke the ankle bone off my ankle (and my one leg bone) I would wake up in the middle of the night in pain. it was always where they screwed the bone back on. (I never felt anything in the back of my leg where the other bone had broke.) Doc told me I was probably dreaming about the accident and jerked my ankle.

Regular, normal blood-flow – IMO – is better for healing than constricting arteries and veins.

A while back, a friend of mine had an extremely rare condition – one lung stage-3, the other was in the pink of health.
Only ~11 in the country had this anomaly, and the big-wig team of physicians paid the airfare and hotel bills just to try to get a bead on how that circumstance came about.
They tried different drugs, but however many changes they tried, still Bob (my late friend, now) was losing weight quickly. 1-3 months saw him go from 162 to 112, and the docs couldn’t figure out why.
All sorts of computer analysis for possible multiple-drug interactions was what the docs and investigated.
When I saw him, he was almost at death’s door.
What the doctors *didn’t* do was to ask him how he ingested the food. I questioned him, and yes, he was in the habit of lying on his bed, angled but nowhere NEAR being upright!
I told him to eat at a table, in a chair, so that the food would go down properly.
(My grandmother always said, “Sit up straight!)
Lo and behold, he took my advice, and he kept down the meals, and started gaining weight. The $500K doctors were oblivious to their crucial oversight.
Although he passed away a couple years later, he at least enjoyed life a little longer.
Country doctors wouldn’t have made that mistake, having the time and down-home expertise for his patients.

COMMENTARY FOR JOHN 6
Five thousand miraculously fed. (1-14) Jesus walks on the sea. (15-21) He directs to spiritual food. (22-27) His discourse with the multitude. (28-65) Many of disciples go back. (66-71)
1-14 John relates the miracle of feeding the multitude, for its reference to the following discourse. Observe the effect this miracle had upon the people. Even the common Jews expected the Messiah to come into the world, and to be a great Prophet. The Pharisees despised them as not knowing the law; but they knew most of Him who is the end of the law. Yet men may acknowledge Christ as that Prophet, and still turn a deaf ear to him.
15-21 Here were Christ’s disciples in the way of duty, and Christ was praying for them; yet they were in distress. There may be perils and afflictions of this present time, where there is an interest in Christ. Clouds and darkness often surround the children of the light and of the day…
22-27 Instead of answering the inquiry how he came there, Jesus blamed their asking. The utmost earnestness should be employed in seeking salvation, in the use of appointed means; yet it is to be sought only as the gift of the Son of man. Him the Father has sealed, proved to be God. He declared the Son of man to be the Son of God with power.
28-35 Constant exercise of faith in Christ, is the most important and difficult part of the obedience required from us, as sinners seeking salvation. When by his grace we are enabled to live a life of faith in the Son of God, holy tempers follow, and acceptable services may be done. God, even his Father, who gave their fathers that food from heaven to support their natural lives, now gave them the true Bread for the salvation of their souls. 36-46 The discovery of their guilt, danger, and remedy, by the teaching of the Holy Spirit, makes men willing and glad to come, and to give up every thing which hinders applying to him for salvation. The Father’s will is, that not one of those who were given to the Son, should be rejected or lost by him. No one will come, till Divine grace has subdued, and in part changed his heart; therefore no one who comes will ever be cast out. The gospel finds none willing to be saved in the humbling, holy manner, made known therein; but God draws with his word and the Holy Ghost; and man’s duty is to hear and learn; that is to say, to receive the grace offered, and consent to the promise. None had seen the Father but his beloved Son; and the Jews must expect to be taught by his inward power upon their minds, and by his word, and the ministers whom he sent among them…
66-71 When we admit into our minds hard thoughts of the words and works of Jesus, we enter into temptation, which, if the Lord in mercy prevent not, will end in drawing back. The corrupt and wicked heart of man often makes that an occasion for offence, which is matter of the greatest comfort. Our Lord had, in the foregoing discourse, promised eternal life to his followers; the disciples fastened on that plain saying, and resolved to cleave to him, when others fastened on hard sayings, and forsook him. Christ’s doctrine is the word of eternal life, therefore we must live and die by it. If we forsake Christ, we forsake our own mercies. They believed that this Jesus was the Messiah promised to their fathers, the Son of the living God. When we are tempted to backslide or turn away, it is good to remember first principles, and to keep to them. And let us ever remember our Lord’s searching question; Shall we go away and forsake our Redeemer? To whom can we go? He alone can give salvation by the forgiveness of sins. And this alone brings confidence, comfort, and joy, and bids fear and despondency flee away. It gains the only solid happiness in this world, and opens a way to the happiness of the next.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

Yes. A generator is a necessary item in my opinion.
I looked into a generator a while back, like a Honda EU2200i 2200 Watt Inverter Generator ($1,099).
I’ve never used a generator, seems like a problem is having it too close to the house, due to carbon monoxide poisoning. I’m not too worried about it, I could put it on the front porch (out of any potential rain or snow, it’s usually doing one or the other when Electric takes an unpaid holiday), and run an extension cord through a crack in the window, to where my office is, several rooms away.
But zoning might be an issue, and IIRC, instructions say to have the generator at least six feet from the side of the house. Six feet would be off the front porch, in the front yard. Exposed to the elements, even if it was just close to the edge of the front porch.
I could buy a battery pack big enough to run the refrigerator and the computer. Those are the only things I really need to power, and even the refrigerator is fine, so long as the power isn’t off long enough for the freezer to thaw.
So I could use the generator to recharge a battery with enough juice to run the PC for 12+ hours. Power isn’t usually off longer than that. And then use the battery to run the computer, and use Starlink to avoid Internet outages.
If there is a better way to do it, I’m all ears.

Carbon monoxide, though potentially dangerous, is subject to common sense. Would you start a vintage corvette car engine inside a garage before opening the door and driving out? Sure, it’s only a couple of minutes and then it’s venting. Would you vent it into your house? Nah, you could have it build up.
I suspect the six feet thing is probably the same rule as a fuel tank or gas can — it’s a fire hazard slopping gasoline next to your house when refueling. If you’re going tri-fuel, with natural gas, you can probably put it wherever a backyard grill or water heater might go. Does your house have a natural gas connection? Even dual-fuel has advantages because gasoline goes bad with age.
I suspect that electric start would be a big plus, in that going out into the snow in your skivvies to pull a rope start may not be your idea of fun. Then again, to each his own.
If it were me, I’d probably build it a little shelter like a doghouse to keep the rain off. You don’t need to seal it completely, because leaking in a little combustion air and leaking out some exhaust is good for you.
If you’re ok with the budget for the Honda, I suspect you find yourself going with something more like https://www.homedepot.com/p/sets/Westinghouse-5000-Watt-Dual-Fuel-Inverter-Generator-with-Remote-Start-and-iGenTent-Running-Cover/337358723. Again, if you can build your own “doghouse”, you can lose the $164 tent…..or keep the tent and have a mini-carport for it to live under so the tent fabric lasts more than one season.
Note that the average microwave oven takes 1500 watts.
A couple of major caveats — 1. if it’s visible from outside your property, chain it to something solid. They make great accessories for thieves. 2. if you’re going to have it connect to normal house wiring, you need a safety cutoff. Otherwise your generator can backflow into distribution lines and injure or kill a utility lineman…..and these are not the sorts of people who you want to have a (fully justified) grudge against you.
Oh, and for another thing — battery packs. Let’s take a computer backup — http s://www.amazo n.com/APC-Battery-Protector-BackUPS-BX1500M/dp/B06VY6FXMM (delete spaces). THAT’S AT 100W LOAD. At 200W load, we’re talking up to 34 minutes. At 300W load, it can go up to 23 minutes. It will handle up to a 900W load…..but not for very long (the “tank” that is draining is the 1500VA number).
I should make more clear — I’m not recommending the Westinghouse, I’m recommending specs more like the Westinghouse — multi-fuel, remote start, higher power….
OTOH, Honda knows how to make very nice small engines.
And then you get into the brand name thing. For instance, there are only two American manufacturers of garbage disposals……so if it says Badger, GE, In-sink-erator, Frigidaire, Waste King, or KitchenAid — it’s coming out of one of two factories.
Same thing with water heaters. There aren’t that many manufacturers, no matter what it says on the labels.
If you get out in the weeds with power tools, you get things like “This user’s guide covers the 7×10 and 7×12 mini lathes that are sold by Grizzly Industrial, Harbor Freight Tools, Homier Mobile Merchants, Micro-Mark, Northern Tool & Equipment, Enco, and Wholesale Tool. All the mini-lathes are basically the old SiEG lathes from a dozen years back, no matter what color they are or what brand is painted on or attached.
Yeah, I probably won’t be using any lathes. Saber Saw / Sawzall is closer to my style.

When I did research on it a year or more ago, it seemed like the Honda was one of the most expensive, but it was also the most reliable and lowest maintenance.
The cheaper models (other brands) had multiple reviews where they finally gave up and bought the Honda, kicking themselves for not buying the Honda in the first place.
The more technically oriented could get the cheaper models to run, but they seemed to all have quirks, difficulty changing (or even adding) oil, etc., and required knowledge I don’t have.
The Hondas seemed to be plug-n-play.
It’s not the kind of thing I ever expect to use except when the power goes out.
If I spend the time to learn all the ins and outs of a complicated new product, I won’t remember any of it when I need it, because I won’t have developed any long term memory through regular use and repetition, like I would if I used it regularly to go camping, or similar.
I just need something that works, on the rare occasion that I need it to work.
That usually costs extra, but a less expensive high maintenance unit that I don’t know how to run on short notice when I need it to, is just an expensive brick 😁

I have a Class C RV. There is a built in generator which sits underneath the back rear corner. INSIDE the chassis.
How is it that it can run without being six feet away from the vehicle and not kill me?

You wouldn’t run it in a garage, so it would be outside, and if the exhaust is through a pipe that goes to the top of the RV, it should be safe. Carbon monoxide is a little lighter than air.
