Dear MAGA: 20260901 ❀ DePat Tuesday ❀ Open Topic | Must Women Keep Silent In Church?

This DePat Tuesday Open Thread honors the author of the original Tuesday open thread on this site, namely the late Susie Sampson, a.k.a. Deplorable Patriot, among her other handles, pen names, etc.

For more on the untimely passing of Dear DePat, please see these three posts.

At one time, DePat handled FOUR daily open threads here, in addition to taking care of her relatives, choir duties, and numerous other responsibilities. She was a powerhouse – a dynamo – a true force of nature.

DePat’s faith in Trump, Q, “The Plan”, the White Hats, and “the anons” in general, was legendary. Although I didn’t always agree with her quick acceptance of some sketchier evidence and fringier theories, I will gladly admit to “coming around” to numerous so-called “conspiracy theories” which she championed first. I was always careful to give her credit for being right, too, when I had been wrong.

It is impossible to overstate how much DePat did for not only this site, but for her country. I urge all to say a quick prayer of thanks, whenever you think of her, for the privilege of knowing, in life or after death, such an exemplary human being, and lover of God.

And thank you, Susie, for the firm foundation which you left us, when you were called to your true home!

Must Women Keep Silent In Church?

It’s too bad that Deplorable Patriot, who was most definitely NOT silent in church, is not around to help us answer this question.

Let’s start with Aubergine’s original frustration and question.

I am struggling with something.

I have been reading the Bible aloud and recording it for a Christmas gift to my family. Reading out loud is different somehow. My pastor says if you want to hear God, read the Bible aloud. I think he’s right.

I have been reading 1 Corinthians, and I was struck by something. I have said for a while now that if I read something in the Bible outside of the Four Gospels that seems contradictory to what Jesus Himself did or said, I go with Jesus.

Many people will say nothing in the rest of the New Testament contradicts Jesus, but I don’t think that’s true. When Paul says that women should “keep silent” in the churches, that seems to me to contradict the fact that Jesus empowered a woman as his first evangelist when he revealed Himself to the Samaritan woman at the well.

So I’m reading out loud, and it hit me hard that in 1 Corinthians, there are several instances where Paul states (paraphrasing) this is from me not God. Well, then, what am I to make of that?

I know the Bible says “all Scripture” is useful for teaching. That appears in 2 Timothy 3. But 2 Timothy was written around 64-67 A.D. The Four Gospels were written between 65-100 A.D. The “Scripture” 2 Timothy was referring to could not have included the Four Gospels, only the Old Testament, so Paul could only have been referring to that.

I am, as I said, struggling with this.

There was a response to this question by Scott, and I believe it is highly instructive to examine.

“Many people will say nothing in the rest of the New Testament contradicts Jesus, but I don’t think that’s true. ”

____________

The reason why people say this, or more broadly, the Bible (Old Testament and New) doesn’t contradict itself, is because all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and God is perfect, and God knows the end from the beginning, and therefore God does not (cannot) contradict Himself.

So if we see something which on the surface appears to be a contradiction, we are misunderstanding something.

I promised Aubergine that I would get back later with my response, and this post is that response.

In consulting my study Bible, it becomes clear to me that most of the explained responses to this question revolve around the idea that Paul is referring to what was regarded as acceptable practice in Corinthian churches at that time.

Specifically, the section in question is found in Chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians, and in the study Bible is entitled Orderly Worship. The question at hand is prophesying and speaking in tongues. Paul concludes the chapter with this summary (NIV translation).

Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

It is noted in the study Bible that “Paul does not altogether forbid women to speak in church (see 11:5). What he is forbidding is the disorderly speaking indicated in these verses.”

1 Corinthians 11:5 is a section entitled Propriety in Worship, and it deals primarily with men and women’s head-covering or lack thereof in church – specifically the Corinthian churches of that time. As he refers to women who are prophesying or praying, in that context, it is clear that women were indeed speaking in church.

Before going further, I think it is important to reflect on Scott’s answer above. In general, readings of the Bible should be not only self-consistent, but consistent with each other.

I would say, similar to what Scott says, that if you find sections of the Bible in contradiction, then misinterpretation of either the scripture itself or its context, is almost certain to be why.

This is not to say that Aubergine’s method of prioritizing Christ’s direct statements over Paul’s take on Christ, is somehow wrong or bad. Indeed, I have the same policy, and I find it extremely useful – but primarily as a way of locating any inconsistency or misinterpretation on my part. In my experience, what Christ says plainly, is where to begin the route to understanding.

So where does that leave us?

IMO it is a case of not just “apples and oranges”, but First Century apples and oranges.

What was acceptable for men and women in Christ’s public ministry in the Levant – and at different times and places within that ministry – is not the same as what was acceptable for Greek Christians in a house of worship. And – to add lemons and grapefruit to the mix – what is acceptable in different modern houses of worship is not the same as what was acceptable back then.

What IS the same in all these circumstances is the maintenance of Decency, Orderliness, and Propriety appropriate for the venue. IMO Paul is absolutely correct in that. “Good order” – however defined – is to be maintained. Paul is insisting that Corinthian churches not abandon their own standards – particularly at moments when some worshipers are overcome with the Holy Spirit. And that last part is key. He is writing to Corinthians about Corinthian churches, and he is talking about the speaking of tongues and its impact on church services. This was apparently a social problem.

Modern analogous standards in America would not distinguish between men and women, but would insist that worshipers not talk, text, or disturb others during services. Interruptions are only tolerable for emergencies, and even then, discretion may be in order. Worshipers experiencing the Holy Spirit (crying, joyous, speaking in tongues, etc.) are to be left alone or comforted as needed – NOT to be the cause of discussion, ridicule, rude comments, laughter, or other things normally intolerable in a church service (at least, outside of a very humorous and entertaining sermon give precisely with the expectation of eliciting laughter, spoken responses, and the like).

Looking at how modern churches in America vary greatly in their expectations with regard to the following, is instructive.

  • children
  • teens
  • nursing moms
  • the elderly
  • the handicapped (including disruptive disorders)
  • “expressive” worshipers
  • concealed carriers / defenders / guards
  • ushers
  • demonstrators
  • those experiencing the Holy Spirit
  • visitors
  • etc.

Now add the range of church policies on things like head coverings (required or forbidden), other clothing (required or forbidden), and behaviors (mostly forbidden, but some required). We are now in an age where Paul only visits us in writing, through letters to other churches from 2000 years ago! Imagine what he’d be writing now – and the kind of push-back he might get!

Then recognize that he got some push-back back then, too!

The bottom line – I’m not worried about apparent inconsistencies and contradictions in the Bible, because IMO when the Bible is considered fully within its own history and its work on humanity, it all makes sense, it’s not contradictory, and it retains it’s divine nature. It DOES lose simplicity by requiring understanding and context – and that’s OK with me, perhaps easier because I’m a bit of a theological liberal. By which I mean the following.

IMO, some parts of the Bible are more metaphorical than others, some parts are more historical than others, and some are more bookkeeping than others, but they are all united in purpose and on message about GOD. The books, chapters, and verses don’t all have to be the same. The humans that believe don’t all have to be the same. Some churches let the women speak, and even speak to the whole congregation – though always in good order. Some don’t. But we do all have to have Faith.

Good Faith is required to understand, and to believe in God. And Faith requires Trust. So let’s trust!

W

And remember…….

Until victory, have faith!

And trust the big plan, too!

And as always….

ENJOY THE SHOW

Trump Has Fixed Biden’s Air Traffic Controller Crisis in Record Time by Ditching Suicidal DEI Requirements

Biden-era issues with air traffic controllers appear to be fading away thanks to President Donald Trump ditching DEI policies.

According to Just The News, President Trump has prioritized meritorious applicants in job hiring instead of DEI quotas, which has set air traffic control networks on a path to growth in recruitment and skill.

Following numerous DEI scandals in the air traffic management industry, President Trump took immediate steps by announcing the “best and brightest campaign” alongside Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

The campaign targets avid video game players and others predisposed to faster processing speeds. Secretary Duffy addressed these new applicants in an X post, saying “they problem-solve, they’re spatially aware, they do multiple things at the same time.”

Duffy also noted tremendous increases in recruitment numbers, announcing that over 2,000 applicants have been hired by the Department of Transportation following the rollout of the best and brightest program.

Duffy’s program was bolstered by President Trump’s Merit Hiring Plan (Executive Order 14170), which enforced hiring based on skill replacing the Biden-era metric of minority quotas in government jobs.

The Trump administration broke a barrier of hiring procedure by encouraging gamers to work in air control units.

Using targeted YouTube advertising and messaging to appeal to the video gaming community, the Department of Transportation recruited a crop of new younger applicants with improved skills thanks to their knowledge of technical gear.

Contrasting these efforts to streamline and strengthen the air traffic control systems, the Biden administration consistently pushed for further expansion of DEI measures in these critical areas of the government responsible for keeping Americans in the air safe.

Both the Obama and Biden administrations hired people with severe mental instabilities to take up these tasks in order to fulfill purely symbolic diversity quotas.

President Trump put an end to these policies, working closely with Secretary Duffy to ensure the air traffic workforce was staffed with experts selected solely for their adeptness.

This article appeared originally on The Western Journal.

The geeky white air controllers could wear T-shirts that say, “I identify as a geeky person of color.”

Of course, the diversicrats find little value in geeky white guys keeping them from dying in mid-air plane collisions.

Alison

It IS diversity; just not the DEI kind they push for devious reasons. Diversity of talent exists for many reasons, and logic dictates talent be matched to jobs or chaos & ineptness ensues (their goal).

If they truly cared about those they purport to represent, they would provide the right education & tools. That is not what they value nor would it lead to the communist outcome they desire.

scott467

It’s a miracle to have not had more air disasters due to DEI than we’ve had.

UPDATE: Attorney General Todd Blanche “Endeavors” to Secure Dominion Voting Machines from 2020 Election that Allegedly Showed Proof of Foreign Involvement

A major lawsuit was submitted by Fulton County, Pennsylvania officials against Dominion Voting Systems in September 2022.

The lawsuit focused on violations of their contract, certification issues, connectivity issues, and the alleged presence of foreign databases and scripts on the systems. Some of the claims are on par with the “debunked” rumors associated with the “most secure election ever” claims, including internet connectivity, outdated security protections, remote accessibility, and random USBs inserted.

The article continues with details about the lawsuit.

…Recently, Attorney Peter Ticktin gave The Gateway Pundit an update on the Fulton County case.

Peter told The Gateway Pundit, “I am learning to respect and appreciate Todd Blanche. I never had a personal problem with him. I just wanted to see things get done. I am happy to report that Attorney General Blanche now has his feet on the ground, and they seem to be running.”

Ticktin added, “I believe that he is getting the fact that our whole nation is at risk due to the election rigging which occurred in 2020 and is still occurring.”

Attorney Ticktin told The Gateway Pundit, “I alerted Todd Blanche, and he stepped in to make sure that the machines that prove foreign involvement are secured. This is the kind of quick action we need.  Of course, there are many other issues that need to be addressed, such as bringing (Colorado Secretary of State) Jena Griswold to justice, and going after AUSAs (Assistant US Attorneys), judges, police, and others who were fighting to harm Donald Trump’s success in fighting the true insurrectionists.”

UPDATE: THERE’S MUCH MORE…

Attorneys Stefanie Lambert and Tom Carroll spoke with The Gateway Pundit on Monday. We were told the DOJ and FBI have been working quietly for months reviewing evidence related to Dominion, and foreign communications to the Fulton County Dominion brand election equipment.

The FBI obtained the image of the Fulton machines months ago, and the Department of Justice has familiarized itself with the litigation files.

More…  Many people contacted the DOJ in fear that the Dominion brand machines would be destroyed, but the DOJ had already opened a file months ago. The DOJ’s position at this time is that it “endeavors the preservation of the equipment” stored at the Pro V &V facility.

We are hopeful that the government can find a resolution to remove the financial penalty to Fulton County. Fulton County was sanctioned approximately $1 million dollars for exposing national security concerns…

Seattle, a failure in progress. Now that they voted in their DSA forehead mayor, it’s all falling apart. The police chief she hired spent more time back in Chicago than in Seattle and after the mass shooting at the Seattle Center he was fired. Now they are looking for another.
Meanwhile the teachers are ready to strike. The school superintendent says that the district is broke. I suspect he is done for as well.
The people of Seattle wanted change. They got it.

Man convicted in Seattle mass shooting that killed woman, injured 7 released after 3 years

The man charged in connection with a deadly 2020 mass shooting in downtown Seattle has been released from custody after serving his sentence, according to a notification from Washington VINE.

In a communication issued on Aug. 31, Washington VINE said it received information that Willia Tolliver had been released from custody.

The release reason was listed as “Sentence served.”

PREVIOUS COVERAGE | Man involved in 2020 Seattle mass shooting sentenced to 4 years in prison for amended charges

Tolliver was sentenced June 16, 2023, to four years in prison after pleading guilty earlier that month to amended charges of second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in a King County courtroom.

The case stemmed from the Jan. 22, 2020, shooting at Third Avenue and Pine Street. A 50-year-old woman was killed, and seven others were injured, including a 9-year-old boy…

The shooting was described in court as the result of a gang feud, with Tolliver opening fire in a crowded area to target a rival gang member.

Tolliver was originally charged with first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm….

I just had a GREAT and very interesting meeting with my Hollywood Ambassador and Movie Legend, Jon Voight! He is a fantastic man who loves our Country, and feels strongly about the Motion Picture and Television Industry. He hates what’s happened to it! It is being dissipated in its entirety. It has moved to Canada, and other Countries, with very little work being done anymore in the United States. Hollywood is a Complete and Total Disaster! Despite the name, it is getting very little work. There is no incentive to be there, and it is hurting California very badly. Jon, and many others in the Industry, are suggesting we do Federal Tax Incentives in order to Make our Movie and Television Production Business GREAT AGAIN, perhaps GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE! The amount of money spent on Tax Incentives will be made up tenfold by the money pouring into the Treasury’s coffers. Meetings are being set up with the Leaders of both Parties in order to get this done. It should be Bipartisan, especially since so much money is being lost in California, and other largely Blue States. I am going to suggest that Republicans and Democrats get together, and immediately craft Legislation to save the Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business in America. Congress should approve, immediately, a Federal Production Incentive to create Entertainment Jobs in America. It can be done quickly, accurately, efficiently and, importantly, will benefit ALL of America. What we watch on the Silver Screen should be made in what was once the Movie and Motion Picture Capital of the World. Let’s get this done! President DONALD J. TRUMP

We now have seen at least three ammo depots, that were placed in the middle of residential neighborhoods in the span of just two months – Pavlograd, Vishneve and Bucha district that caused mass casualty events.

By any measure possible, it’s a war crime:

Article 51(7) of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions expressly prohibits using the presence of the civilian population to shield military objectives from military operations.

Article 28 of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits using the presence of protected persons to shield certain points or areas from military operations.

Rule 97 of customary international humanitarian law of the International Committee of the Red Cross expressly states: the use of human shields is prohibited.

Article 8(2)(b)(xxiii) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court classifies using the presence of civilians to shield certain points, areas, or armed forces from military operations as a war crime.

Every time, Zelensky pointed the finger the other direction and called to punish those responsible.

In case of Vishneve, it was so ridiculous that Ukrainian MOD stated that they don’t even know whom the ammo, that blew out everything in the 13 hectares radius and destroyed 95 residential buildings, belongs to.

The pattern indicates that this is not negligence, but a strategy and the responsibility for the decision to use civilians as a shield lies solely with the supreme commander-in-chief – Zelensky.

EACH DAY WE TAKE UP THE OFFENSIVE WEAPON OF THE WORD OF GOD – THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT – ONE VERSE OPENS THE DOOR TO THE CONTEXT OF THE CHAPTER MESSAGE

Verse of the Day for Tuesday, September 1, 2026

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”

John 10:11 (KJV)

COMMENTARY FOR JOHN 10

The parable of the good shepherd. (1-5) Christ the Door. (6-9) Christ the good Shepherd. (10-18) The Jews’ opinion concerning Jesus. (19-21) His discourse at the feast of dedication. (22-30) The Jews attempt to stone Jesus. (31-38) He departs from Jerusalem. (39-42)1-5 Here is a parable or similitude, taken from the customs of the East, in the management of sheep. Men, as creatures depending on their Creator, are called the sheep of his pasture. The church of God in the world is as a sheep-fold, exposed to deceivers and persecutors. The great Shepherd of the sheep knows all that are his, guards them by his providence, guides them by his Spirit and word, and goes before them, as the Eastern shepherds went before their sheep, to set them in the way of his steps. Ministers must serve the sheep in their spiritual concerns. The Spirit of Christ will set before them an open door. The sheep of Christ will observe their Shepherd, and be cautious and shy of strangers, who would draw them from faith in him to fancies about him.

6-9 Many who hear the word of Christ, do not understand it, because they will not. But we shall find one scripture expounding another, and the blessed Spirit making known the blessed Jesus. Christ is the Door. And what greater security has the church of God than that the Lord Jesus is between it and all its enemies? He is a door open for passage and communication. Here are plain directions how to come into the fold; we must come in by Jesus Christ as the Door. By faith in him as the great Mediator between God and man. Also, we have precious promises to those that observe this direction. Christ has all that care of his church, and every believer, which a good shepherd has of his flock; and he expects the church, and every believer, to wait on him, and to keep in his pasture.

10-18 Christ is a good Shepherd; many who were not thieves, yet were careless in their duty, and by their neglect the flock was much hurt. Bad principles are the root of bad practices. The Lord Jesus knows whom he has chosen, and is sure of them; they also know whom they have trusted, and are sure of Him. See here the grace of Christ; since none could demand his life of him, he laid it down of himself for our redemption. He offered himself to be the Saviour; Lo, I come. And the necessity of our case calling for it, he offered himself for the Sacrifice. He was both the offerer and the offering, so that his laying down his life was his offering up himself. From hence it is plain, that he died in the place and stead of men; to obtain their being set free from the punishment of sin, to obtain the pardon of their sin; and that his death should obtain that pardon. Our Lord laid not his life down for his doctrine, but for his sheep.

19-21 Satan ruins many, by putting them out of conceit with the word and ordinances. Men would not be laughed out of their necessary food, yet suffer themselves thus to be laughed out of what is far more necessary. If our zeal and earnestness in the cause of Christ, especially in the blessed work of bringing his sheep into his fold, bring upon us evil names, let us not heed it, but remember our Master was thus reproached before us.

22-30 All who have any thing to say to Christ, may find him in the temple. Christ would make us to believe; we make ourselves doubt. The Jews understood his meaning, but could not form his words into a full charge against him. He described the gracious disposition and happy state of his sheep; they heard and believed his word, followed him as his faithful disciples, and none of them should perish; for the Son and the Father were one. Thus he was able to defend his sheep against all their enemies, which proves that he claimed Divine power and perfection equally with the Father.

31-38 Christ’s works of power and mercy proclaim him to be over all, God blessed for evermore, that all may know and believe He is in the Father, and the Father in Him. Whom the Father sends, he sanctifies. The holy God will reward, and therefore will employ, none but such as he makes holy. The Father was in the Son, so that by Divine power he wrought his miracles; the Son was so in the Father, that he knew the whole of His mind. This we cannot by searching find out to perfection, but we may know and believe these declarations of Christ.

39-42 No weapon formed against our Lord Jesus shall prosper. He escaped, not because he was afraid to suffer, but because his hour was not come. And He who knew how to deliver himself, knows how to deliver the godly our of their temptations, and to make a way for them to escape. Persecutors may drive Christ and his gospel our of their own city or country, but they cannot drive him or it out of the world. When we know Christ by faith in our hearts, we find all that the Scripture saith of him is true.

Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710.

Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered !!!

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

SHEPHERD OF MY HEART

The Shepherd keeps watch over His flock
He daily checks hearts – then, He takes stock
If one has been tempted and led astray
He pursues and prods lest one slip away

Carefully crafted by our God are we
Inside our hearts – He can clearly see
When we accept Jesus – as Lord of all
We answer to Jesus – the Shepherd’s call

Oh, Lord – let me never stray from the flock
May you always find me when you take stock
If some day – I should be tempted and stray
Come after me, Lord – let me not slip away

You know in my heart – Your Spirit resides
Be sure in my heart – Your Spirit abides
I lay at your feet – the trials of the day
Shepherd of my Heart – be not far away

Direct and perfect me in all I do
Let my labor be blessed – pleasing to You
Let all that I am and ever will be
Give Honor and Glory only to Thee

Whenever I’m stumbling along the way
Reach out to me – set me upright – I pray
Separated from You – I pray not to be
Shepherd of My Heart – stay close to me

Keeper of this heart of mine – be patient
For I am but human – sometimes I’m salient
Not paying attention – distracted am I
With worldly concerns – in the blink of an eye

Be the sunlight of my day – a ray of hope
Help me, Oh Lord – to steadfastly cope
Be the light of my night – a bright beacon
The Shepherd of My Heart – my church deacon

Wash and cleanse me – as I repent today
Purify me – in Your Word and Your Way
Let not my sin separate us for long
Shepherd of my Heart – to You, I belong

Strengthen me daily – that I may not stray
Keep me securely in Your arms today
I trust in You – above all – and I pray
Shepherd of My Heart – guide my heart today

Hi y’all. I’m so desperate to be in the tree that I’m willing to use my old Windows 7 ‘puter to do it.

Later today I’m going to try to figure out how to clone my spinning rust drive onto my Seagate 2TB external drive.

Any suggestions where I can get free cloning software? Also, what is the most surefire way to get the ‘puter to boot from the external drive.

I’m only partially kidding.

Linux has several (dangerous but highly effective) tools to use on disks — e.g. gparted to work on partition structure and format, and the dreaded dd to move data around. It would be worth it (for me) to use a Linux boot disk and perform the disk operations within Linux, particularly as I’m familiar with these tools.

Be aware that you need to use the utmost care with these tools. For example, dd can write 01010101 across a disk to wipe it.

My beliefs regarding the thread topic – both Scott and Wolf are correct in my interpretation. Paul’s and other authors’ letters contained in the NT are called Epistles while the primary works containing the life and words of Christ (limited exceptions are Acts and Revelation) are called the Gospel.

Summary Epistles definition – Letters to believers in churches located in primarily secular, non-YHWH believing regions.

Summary Gospel definition – The proclamation of the redemption preached by Jesus and the Apostles, which is the central content of Christian revelation.

One is the vision, mission, principles, and goals for followers of Christ for all of time until He returns and establishes His kingdom (1000 year reign). The other is the application for the people in the cultures that existed in that day in which Paul and other God inspirted authors lived; which are to have influence and provide guidance on what we believe and how we are to live today.

JMO – this lack of understanding has been the biggest contributor to mis and disinformation about Christianity in the public square since Jesus walked the earth. Satan and his minions have used it to sow discord and disrupt the effectiveness of the church to witness for Christ.

Paul ties this together well in I Corinthians 9:22, 23 (KJV)

To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

He also does this very well in his Mars Hill address in Acts:1722-34.

Christ turned legalism on its head. Paul and other disciples did likewise. Our dominant culture, which was established at our founding and has evolved since, says no head coverings. When trying to influence and witness to a sub culture within our nation/culture – do as Paul instructs. It gains you entrance into their world. If not trying to witness or trying to convert those stuck in the plantation mentality, legalism, or disbelief; you be you. Just let the Lord guide you into your decision.

Hope this helps.

pgroup

As I recall, Christ called out the ‘lawyers’ rather sarcastically. He knew exactly who was fomenting discord among the Jews.

TradeBait2

Good catch. 👍 Amen – He did – frequently and with gusto!

pgroup

That discord was viewed with the blessing of their Roman rulers.

Thanks for your insight.

Valerie Curren

This is most enlightening. Thank you for sharing so fully!

Years ago I read a fascinating book called, iirc, God’s Word to Women. In it the author, a female biblical scholar, shared a number of scriptural insights. One that stuck with me involved the description of the Proverbs 31 woman. She said that the term “virtuous” for this woman was only translated as that word in that one place in scripture. All other usuages of the underlying Hebrew word were more along the lines of powerful, warrior-like, or strong, I believe. Her contention was that the translating scholars of the day were all men & were uncomfortable with the stronger meanings of the Hebrew word being applied to a woman so their bias crept in as to how they translated that word. I read this book no later than 1992 as I was still in OK at the time, so it wasn’t “woke” at least.

Regarding women in scripture it is a complicated topic & I think we need to keep in mind the difference between Descriptive & Proscriptive. The mores of the biblical eras were far removed from those of our modern cultures & women being “2nd class citizens” or under the protection of their men (father, brother, husband, son) was the norm & likely even necessary in that turbulent world.

Deborah, being a married woman yet the Judge in Israel at the time, instead of her husband, is an example of God using a woman in an unexpected way in that man’s world. So too for Jael who killed Sisera, I think, with a tent peg through the temple. In the NT Lydia, who had a house church meeting in her home, was perhaps in the role of “pastor” for that small fellowship. Priscilla & Acquilla, a married couple, lists the wife’s name first so she was apparently socially more prominent, as that was not a typical way to indicate the names of a couple. Even Martha, Mary, & Lazarus as three siblings lists the women first interestingly. I recall Paul, I think, speaking to one of his co-laborers & referring to his faith that lived first in his grandmother Lois & his mother Eunice.

I think how Jesus dealt with women was revolutionary for His time. Revealing Himself as the Christ to the Samaritan woman is profound. Having the first eye-witnesses for His resurrection be woman (who I think were not allowed to have their testimony carry as much weight legally as would a man’s) is quite culturally confounding for that era & perhaps even ours!

Passages that negate differences between Believers, like “there is no Jew nor Greek, no bond or free, no male nor female” in Christ state overt equality. Passages like “I don’t permit a woman to speak in church” at least reflect the culture of the era but have caused pain & conflict, for some of us through the ages.

When I was in seminary/grad school & shortly after I had a female friend who had obtained her MDiv & sought work in the field. I can still hear her laughingly sorrowful voice saying “if only I had a penis” then she might be hired for the sacred work she sought & for which she was academically qualified. As such in the many churches she interviewed with they were happy for her to teach Sunday School or play the piano but not to have a true MDiv level leadership role.

We were for many years in a small local fellowship that happened to be part of the CMA (Christian Missionary Alliance) denomination. Our location was part of the Great Lakes District of the CMA & I think that district had stricter rules on women in ministry than had some other districts. Any way for quite a long time this local church was pastored by a missionary family who’d come state side for a few years to care for their son’s myriad medical needs–they were usually in the mission field in Africa & the pastor & his wife both grew up in missionary families. When on the Mission Field the CMA treated them as equal ministerially in both pay & allowed activities, as they literally had the same education level & qualifications. But stateside, at least in the GLD, only the male was allowed to be a pastor & even preach. When female missionaries were on stateside sabbaticals & they’d rotate through the churches they were allowed to speak at the pulpit, though maybe more encouraging testimony than an actual preaching message. The “hypocracy” within the denomination, or at least district, was quite troubling to me though the pastor’s wife seemed to take it all in stride & humbly dedicated herself to co-ministry w/ her husband in a way that they both consistently & sacrifically laid down their lives for the church. I guess I have more rough edges as a Believer than she does for I carry/ied a degree of offence on her behalf…sigh.

pgroup

Christ nailed two birds with His reveal – female and gentile.

The Jews hated the Samaritans [still do] which is why the Samaritan is the choice for the parable.

As far as your qualified friend goes, she should write a book. 😉

Valerie Curren

That friend, sadly, died of leukemia back in the 90s 🙁

Love your take on Samaritans!

TradeBait2

Very thoughtful. Thanks for bringing this. I remember Dr. Adrian Rogers and his wife, Joyce, as I read this. Both in effective ministry – one in the pulpit and one in family and women’s ministries. Both were authors, both influential and called, both clearly anointed for their roles.

Some people/churches accept women in the pulpit, some do not. If the woman desires to be in the pulpit to prove her equal condition, does she have the anointing of God to do so? It seems not to me. If anointed to preach The Word and pastor in the church, the Lord will provide the opportunity to do so. Who is man to try to stop a called messenger of the Lord? If one is called to study and progress into ministry, the opportunity that fits the person will occur in God’s timing and way. Which is also true in most other professions believers enter.

All of that is true even for a man as well as the woman. Most believers have known pastors who obviously were not called and anointed for the role. There are several examples of that in the epistles who were men. It would seem that is a principle regardless of gender.

As you say, hypocrisy rears its head way too often in the universal church.

Being submitted to God & to each other, as scripture indicates, is quite a complicated process. It’s counter-intuitive to how the world nudges us to exalt ourselves rather than exalting God & allowing Him to elevate us, if He so chooses. Thank you for this edification 🙂

The banking dynasty that controlled shadow governments and intelligence agencies are the real targets here, who Bessent is calling out.

Trump and Bessent are now in control of the world’s financial system and are enforcing the laws that the Rothschilds have become experts in avoiding.

New York PostFrom robots to AI: The tech behind Trump’s plan to secure the Southern Border
That is from January. Now NYP has an Twitter (X) with video of the new technology being used at the border with AI analyzing the information from that technology.

From a different site.
Trump Border Wall Is Being Finished and the Smart Wall Technology Inside It Leaves Cartels Nowhere to Hide

AI Surveillance Towers and Underground Sensors Are Sealing the Routes Cartels Relied on for Years

This wall is not the barbed wire that held the border for decades.

The fencing is topped with autonomous surveillance towers that detect movement across miles of terrain and send instant alerts to Border Patrol agents in the field…

CBP is adding 95 more autonomous towers under the One Big Beautiful Bill – each one covering up to 8 miles of border terrain without tying an agent to a control room screen.

Beneath the surface, buried fiberoptic cables detect footsteps and vehicle movement anywhere along the line, feeding data back for analysis even through dense terrain and riverbeds…

“The primary wall is the first wall up because of the way the cartels adjust,” Mullin said. “They’re criminals, they’re thugs and they’re terrorists.”

Mullin pegged primary wall completion at June 2027, with the full secondary wall finished by summer 2028…

Obama wasted a billion dollars. Biden wasted four years. Trump is making up for both.

Democrats spent years calling the border wall xenophobic, wasteful, and impossible to build.

Biden decided the wall was optional and left the door open on purpose.

Trump is proving both of them wrong at six miles a week – with AI, 30-foot steel bollards, and fiberoptic cables running through terrain that used to belong to cartels.

With tens of billions in contracts inked and CBP targeting 250 miles of new barriers by September 30 alone, the smart wall is not a promise anymore.

It is a construction site.

Valerie Curren

Very Cool!

Gail Combs

I wonder if some of the data centers are needed for that border security.

Valerie Curren

That’s an interesting concept that makes sense to me.

Thank you.

Regarding “women speaking in churches” — what about singing in churches? Our good, late DePat made a career from using her operatically-trained singing voice in worship services. There are female cantors in many Jewish synagogues. The Old Testament has verses about both men and women “singing spiritual songs” and playing instruments for worship.

My late voice teacher in Virginia had a couple of Old Order Mennonite females who came to work with him in his voice studio. These women were students at the local community college, where they were getting degrees in nursing. Their pastor permitted them to take voice lessons, but under the condition that they would only study sacred music. My voice teacher chose pieces from Bach cantatas for them to work on.

Valerie Curren

Just for fun, something a bit different I ran across.

Valerie Curren

Yes!

Aubergine

Wow, I got a whole post as an answer!

I appreciate you, Wolf.

It is logical to me that Paul was addressing specific churches about specific issues in his letters. That makes perfect sense to me.

The part that I am really focused on, however, is the fact that Paul himself states that some of what he is writing is not from God, but from himself alone.

That to me looks like Paul acknowledging his own preferences, not God’s instruction. Paul is saying it outright. Not about women speaking in church, but about marriage.

One explanation I get for this is that Jesus didn’t address the topic specifically while on Earth, so Paul is addressing something Jesus didn’t.

But if Paul is speaking of the topic under the instruction of the Holy Spirit, why would he say that what he is saying is from himself, not from the Lord?

Paul is directly stating that this is his preference.

When I don’t read commentary, and just read what is actually written down by Paul, this is the only conclusion I can reach.

I suppose what I’m actually trying to say is, I think we should take Paul at his word, rather than applying interpretation.

Last edited 13 days ago by Aubergine
Rosa

Maybe that is his way of signaling that he is making a cultural statement or application as opposed to an absolute.

Aubergine

Thanks, Rosa. That could be.

Alison

Thanks to Wolf for an well-thought-out response. I’m not trained in Bible study and am often perplexed with my daily readings, but I try to remind myself of the historical context and hold fast to the 10 Commandments that I believe are clear and unchanging. However churches & policies change during the centuries, the Commandments do not.

To Aubergine, I understand & empathize with your puzzlement & conflicts. I find Paul’s letters difficult to embrace for a few reasons, even to the point of preferring other books of the Bible. Nevertheless I continue to read Paul’s letters to the churches in hopes of better understanding.

Aubergine

I read them, too. I am trying to read them now just as they are written.

Robert Baker

A,I am including a theological treatment from the study assistant in my Biblical software. I asked the question: “What is Paul’s doctrine concerning women in church?” It offers two major perspectives on this question, which have been discussed over the centuries. As with most debates of this nature, it depends on the views that you bring into the discussion. There is the cultural perspective, both now and two thousand years ago, the Pauline perspective, and what I refer to as the problem-solution perspective. I suppose for those who are deeply interested in the discussion the debate has no end. No one likes to have a question answered by, “it depends”, but alas there is an element of that in this debate. This does not directly address the question of Paul’s opinion versus God’s word, but the same sort of technical reasoning is required..

Paul’s teaching on women in the church reveals significant tension between restrictive directives and his recognition of women in active ministry roles.
Paul explicitly prohibits women from teaching or exercising authority over men, commanding them to remain quiet (1 Tim 2:11–15), and he instructs women to remain silent in churches and not speak, but to be in submission (1 Cor 14:34–35). He grounds this restriction in the creation order—Adam’s formation before Eve and Eve’s deception in the fall (1 Tim 2:11–15). The fact that Paul roots his directive in creation order rather than cultural rationale suggests these instructions carry permanent applicability1. In household contexts, Paul instructs wives to submit to their husbands as they do to the Lord, since the husband functions as the head of the wife just as Christ is head of the church (Eph 5:22–24).
Yet Paul simultaneously acknowledges women functioning in leadership capacities. He commends Phoebe as a deacon of the church (Rom 16:1–4), and Priscilla is consistently named before her husband and taught Apollos, demonstrating that women may teach men2. Junia is identified as an apostle and was outstanding among the apostles (Rom 16:7), while Euodia and Syntyche are recognized as co-workers who contended alongside Paul in the gospel (Phil 4:2–3). Paul teaches that both men and women are equally made in God’s image, equally in Christ, and should submit to one another mutually2.
Paul’s views about women’s leadership roles are not straightforward, and he appears to express contradictory views about their role3. These contradictions may witness both Paul’s bias against women and his internal struggle to reconcile cultural expectations with the reality that the Spirit empowers women as leaders, prophets, and co-workers3. This apparent inconsistency has generated interpretive disagreement among scholars regarding whether Paul’s restrictions apply universally or were culturally conditioned responses to specific situations.

TheseTruths

No doubt you have researched this topic, and you might have come across this article. I think it provides food for thought.

https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/you-asked-is-all-scripture-from-the-lord/

In part:

Who Is ‘the Lord’?

The first matter to clear up is what the questioner means by saying that “all of Scripture” is “from the Lord.” In one sense this is true, in another sense it is not.

Most broadly, the whole Bible is certainly from “from the Lord” if by “the Lord” we mean the triune God—the 66 books of the Bible are God’s self-testimony to a fallen world of his identity and his mighty deeds in our space-and-time history for the sake of sinners. Every word is a word from God.

But not all of Scripture is “from the Lord” if by “the Lord” we mean the Lord Jesus in his earthly teaching—and it is Jesus that Paul has in mind when he speaks of “the Lord” in 1 Corinthians 7.

When Paul says in 1 Cor. 7:10 that it is “not I, but the Lord” who declares that a husband and wife should not separate, he is drawing on the words of Jesus (e.g., Matt. 19:4-9). When Paul goes on to say that it is “I, not the Lord” who says that a believing spouse should remain with a contented unbelieving spouse, he is acknowledging that Jesus did not explicitly address such a situation, as the Corinthians are now facing.

Canon Within the Canon?

Of course, this raises a question. Is Paul saying Jesus’ words are more authoritative than his own? Have we created a canon within the canon? Are we saying that if Paul were to buy a Bible today, he’d prefer a red-letter edition?

Nope. After all, the entire Scripture is the Word of Christ, broadly conceived. We cannot hold up what Leviticus or Ecclesiastes says as less authoritative, from a whole-Bible perspective, than the Sermon on the Mount. All three cohere and play their distinctive role in giving us the cumulative message of Scripture—namely, the message of the grace of God in the Son of God for the people of God to the glory of God. At the same time, a ritual food law from Leviticus is not received today by Christians in the same way as it would have been for a Jew 3,000 years ago, because we read such a food law in light of Jesus’ words in Mark 7:14-23, in which “he declared all foods clean” (7:19).

The 66 books of the Bible are unified, but not uniform. The Bible gives us a coherent message, but every text must be read in light of the entire Bible; Leviticus must be read in light of Mark 7. Anything less would be sub-Christian. I don’t read Isaiah the way a Jew would in 50 B.C. for the same basic reason I’m not writing this article on papyrus: it’s not where we are in the Story.

How does all this relate to 1 Corinthians 7? In this way: we are to read 1 Cor. 7:12 as carrying for us the same full authority that any of the words of Jesus carry. There is no canon within the canon. As an apostle, Paul spoke on behalf of the one who sent him, Christ himself. The apostles were formally commissioned to testify to and to pass down to the next generation the authoritative teaching of Christ and the sanctioned significance of his saving work. Paul the apostle therefore speaks with full authority.

Imagine that the king of a foreign land has passed a law that every young man must enter the nation’s military force at age 18. Each man must serve for five years, after which time he is discharged and free. The king himself writes this law into existence, commissioning a given number of officials to communicate and enforce the law on his behalf, and dies shortly thereafter. His personally selected officials are then confronted with the situation, however, that foreign couples are getting married and then entering the nation and living as citizens of this nation. Should these husbands, assuming they are at least 18 years old, be conscripted into the military?

What is relevant here is simply the question of authority. The king had formally sanctioned a specific number of officials to carry out his laws. The officials therefore write a letter to the people explaining their solution. In that letter they explain that the king himself had ordered every male 18 years of age to enter the military. The officials then further explain that, although the king did not explicitly address the unusual circumstance of foreigners becoming citizens, the officials themselves speak on the king’s behalf and with his authority. The people of the land are therefore to receive the officials’ decision just as they would the king’s very words.

Distinction of Source, Not Authority

The point of this imperfect analogy is simply that even when Paul is speaking beyond the actual words of Jesus, he is speaking with apostolic authority. He acts on behalf of the King. It may sound odd, but we receive Paul’s instruction in 1 Cor. 7:12-16 as the very word of God even though it is not the very words of Jesus. 1 Cor. 7:12 is no less inerrant than 1 Cor. 7:10 (or the words of Jesus recorded in the Gospels, for that matter). For Christians today, Paul’s “I, not the Lord” is not less authoritative than his “not I, but the Lord.” It might be worth remembering also that even the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels are the true voice of Jesus but not the actual words of Jesus. He spoke in Aramaic, but our New Testament recorded those words in Greek. So even in the Gospels, we are dealing with a similar dynamic. We do not view the Greek text of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as inferior in authority to the Aramaic that Jesus would actually have uttered.

In other words, the distinction we today discern in Paul’s words in 1 Cor 7:10, 12 is a distinction of original source, not final authority. Paul is telling us that he is quoting Jesus in 7:10, but not in 7:12. But for us today, both verses have full authority. Perhaps Paul’s apostolic authority in these matters is the reason he reminds his readers that he too has the Spirit of God in the last verse of 1 Corinthians 7.

Not all of Scripture is the words of Jesus. But all of Scripture is the Word of God.

Aubergine

Thank you.

I have to disagree with this part:

“It might be worth remembering also that even the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels are the true voice of Jesus but not the actual words of Jesus. He spoke in Aramaic, but our New Testament recorded those words in Greek. So even in the Gospels, we are dealing with a similar dynamic.”

Translation is not the same as interpretation.

TheseTruths

Translation is not the same as interpretation.

I’m not sure that the article is addressing interpretation. The focus there is on whether we think we have to have the actual words of Jesus in order to recognize them as real or authoritative.

We do not view the Greek text of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as inferior in authority to the Aramaic that Jesus would actually have uttered.

Aubergine

What I am saying is, we do have the actual words of Jesus.

This is English:

“I am the light of the world”

This is Greek:

«Εγώ είμαι το φως του κόσμου»

This is Hebrew:

"אני אור העולם"

Those are translations, but the words are them same. They only wrote them in Greek because that was the language of the educated of their day.

As far the article, I am interested in interpretation, because of what Paul said. Because it is unclear. The article is one interpretation of what that means.

“But not all of Scripture is “from the Lord” if by “the Lord” we mean the Lord Jesus in his earthly teaching—and it is Jesus that Paul has in mind when he speaks of “the Lord” in 1 Corinthians 7.”

That sentence is “interpreting” what Paul “had in mind” when he spoke of the Lord. Nobody can “know” what was in Paul’s mind.

Aubergine

The “explanation” that works for me so far is, Paul was addressing a specific church with specific instructions for specific cultural practices in a specific place and time.

While all of Paul’s words and teaching are useful for instruction and guidance today, the fact that in one place he instructed women to be silent, and in other places encouraged them as leaders of the church means to me that there are times and places where women should be quiet, and times and places where they should not. I don’t see an absolute for women’s behavior in Paul’s teaching. YMMV, of course.

Valerie Curren

Love this take!

Aubergine

Thanks, Valerie.

Rosa

Great explanation! In many rural and even urban churches in SE Asia there is a tendency (but not a rule or requirement) that men sit on one side of the church and women on the other. Some mixing, but generally observable. They always told me that that verse refers to women’s tendency to chitter chatter when together in groups and the application is that in church you should be quiet and listen. I remember being amazed at what an elegant and obvious explanation that was – as opposed to some of the legalistic arguments I had heard in the US!

Aubergine

Lol, maybe that’s why I’m struggling. People talking in church (or movies, or libraries) drives me NUTS!

In some churches the purpose for separating men and women is to keep people’s thoughts on spiritual rather than carnal subjects.

Regarding the resignation yesterday of Secretary of the Army, Dan Driscoll:

Last edited 12 days ago by PAVACA
Valerie Curren

This is beyond concerning:

Green Beret Nap Time
@GBNT1952
Dan Driscoll destroyed Army logistics.

His legacy is gutting one of the capabilities that made the US Army capable of projecting combat power across the planet on short notice.

For those of you unaware, the Army had seven ships worth of prepositioned stocks with roughly 1.3 million square feet of equipment already loaded and positioned for rapid deployment.

Dan Driscoll cut the entire program and destroyed the Army’s ability for rapid deployment in the process.

He put the equipment ashore in the US mainland… as if a warehouse in Charleston was a substitute for mobile warehouses already at sea.

That is an insane trade in an era where every serious war game screams about contested logistics.

The entire purpose of afloat prepositioning was that soldiers could move rapidly into theater and fall in on heavy equipment already forward, instead of waiting for thousands of vehicles, containers, ammunition, maintenance assets, and sustainment equipment to be hauled out of the continental US after the shooting starts.

Wildly incompetent leadership… Dan Driscoll has done more damage to the Army than any of the gender confused DEI hires before him, and that’s not an exaggeration.

The next Secretary of the Army has a lot of work to do.

College student steps into traffic, is killed after losing immigration status
Tragic, yes. But this story is maddening to me, and I suspect details have been left out.

He was distraught about his situation, so he caused an innocent driver on the highway to have to live with killing someone.

He is presented as the poster boy for the perfect immigrant: smart, wanting to become a doctor, Junior ROTC. (How a noncitizen gets into that program is beyond me.)

Haitian immigrant who had grown increasingly distraught after losing his protection from deportation and being outfitted with an ankle monitor was run over and killed Monday in what his family believes was a suicide.

Pierre Damas Bel, 20, parked on the shoulder of Interstate 70 in Springfield, Ohio, some time before 8:45 a.m., got out of his vehicle and walked into westbound traffic, the Ohio State Highway Patrol told local media outlets. He was hit by a tractor-trailer and pronounced dead at the scene.

He caused an innocent driver on the highway to have to live with having killed someone.

Like an estimated 350,000 Haitian immigrants, Bel had recently lost temporary protected status, which is given to people fleeing nations experiencing disaster.

Did he have any inkling during the time he had TPS that it could end? Did his parents? Were they paying attention and guiding him? There was back-and-forth between DHS and judges for months during 2025 and 2026.

He had a pending asylum claim, but had been summoned to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to proceed with canceling the status for Haitian recipients. Federal immigrant agents placed an electronic monitoring device on his ankle, which is one way the agency tracks immigrants it is seeking to remove from the country.

“He felt like he was treated like an animal,” his father, Pierres Ronal Bel, 40, recounted in a handwritten statement.

…Advocates for the immigrants say the U.S. government is sending people back to a country where criminal gangs are responsible for massacres, kidnapping and extortion.

Haitian leaders in Springfield and beyond said Bel’s death is symptomatic of the extreme stress many immigrants are under as they fear being detained and sent back.

Were there things they needed to do in order to remain here or change their status?

“These policies are what caused his untimely death,” said Guerline Jozef of the Haitian Bridge Alliance, a nonprofit that provides legal and humanitarian aid to migrants.

Bel came to the U.S. in 2024 to reunite with his parents, who had fled Haiti three years before. ICE said their records show he entered through CBP One, the mobile app the Biden administration established for immigrants to enter the country at a port of entry and request asylum.

He came here in 2024. What had he been doing, and where had he been living, before that? (I’m guessing Haiti.)

The family was granted temporary protected status, purchased a home in Springfield and settled into life in the U.S. Bel dreamed of studying medicine and graduated high school last May with honors and as a proud member of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), his father said. He was the eldest of three siblings and his family described him as smart and responsible.

The young man’s Instagram account is full of photos of himself smiling in his JROTC uniform and displaying his diploma and various academic awards.

Bel wanted to continue life as a cadet in the program, but was distressed by what transpired after temporary protected status was canceled for Haitians. His father said he couldn’t play soccer as he had for years because of the weight of the tracker. Classmates bullied him and made cruel remarks. He begged federal immigration officers to remove the bracelet, his father said, but they refused.

“I came to this country to pursue my education. I didn’t come here to commit a crime or hurt anyone,” he wrote on Instagram in late July.

Yet he has devaststed the life of at least one individual by stepping in front of their vehicle.

“Yet now I’m walking through the streets of the United States with a GPS monitor on my leg, carrying a feeling of shame and humiliation that I never imagined I would experience.”

Difficult, yes. How one handles that difficulty, including his parents’ handling of it, reveals one’s character.

TheseTruths

Another Haitian migrant story:

Haitian Migrant Accused of Murdering Woman, Strangling Another in Florida

Late last week, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced the arrest of 28-year-old Whycliff Longin of Haiti for allegedly murdering his aunt, Amadette Longin, and strangling his cousin.

Whycliff’s cousin told police that she woke up to him strangling her. The woman said she broke free of Whycliff’s grip and hid in the residence’s bathroom.

When police arrived on the scene, Whycliff was found and arrested at the duplex next door. When officers searched the residence, they found Amadette Longin’s lifeless body. Amadette’s family told police that she had given Whycliff a place to stay.

Longin has been charged with murder, attempted murder, sexual battery, and burglary involving battery. He remains in Lee County custody and Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against him.

His aunt gave him a place to live, and he killed her. The article mentions sexual battery, which might have been committed against her or his cousin.

TheseTruths

Bel came to the U.S. in 2024 to reunite with his parents, who had fled Haiti three years before. ICE said its records show he entered through CBP One, the mobile app the Biden administration established for immigrants to enter the country at a port of entry and request asylum.

So the parents left Haiti for the U.S. in 2021, leaving behind their middle school or high school aged son?

Tatonka Woman

So…this part really grabs me and sticks in my craw….

The family was granted temporary protected status, purchased a home in Springfield and settled into life in the U.S.

They BOUGHT a house! Do they not understand the word “temporary?”

More importantly…HOW did they buy a house? Where did they get the money? How did they pass a credit check? Did they have jobs?

My daughter and SiL have been trying to buy a house for years now. Every time they think they might be close, the interest rates go up, the price of homes go up, the number of hoops they have to jump through increase. Etc.

Not happy when I read about this stuff!!!

Gail Combs

When I was single, I tried to buy a house. I had to have my father co-sign BECAUSE I WAS FEMALE, despite having a great credit rating and a very good paying stable job at a fortune 500 company. If I had been a man, I would have had ZERO problem.

I just can’t believe that this was a hung jury. How can the hearts and minds of the jurors not see that she may have been mental but, she planned the murders? She could have had the realization of what she was doing at ANY time, to strangle 3 children. She carried out 3 separate events. This is EVIL.

LoneStar

I miss spoke……verdict not in. I read TheseTruths post and reacted wrongly but , that is how I feel.

TheseTruths

IMO your sentiments apply also to the fact that it is taking the jury this long, and that it could end in a hung jury. She committed three murders of the most innocent among us, and of those with whose care she was entrusted. It is horrific and evil, as you say.

patfrederick

the jury came out and told the judge after 4 days (?) of deliberation they couldn’t reach a verdict. He told them to try harder.

She confessed to the murders but wants to get off because she was depressed–post partum. sorry–that would be a defense if you tried to commit suicide. you were depressed so you wanted it to end. the 3 children did NOTHING to warrant being killed.
if they let her go, who knows who she could kill next because she is still depressed.
the person is a monster. monsters should be locked up not roaming free.

On Flock And Similar Camera Systems

TheseTruths

A hugely informative letter from Denninger to a county commission and sheriff, full of details and implications of those systems that I was not aware of and still don’t fully understand. I imagine that only a tiny fraction of the public, those who have expertise in this and related fields, are fully aware. That’s how our freedoms get stolen. I’m saving the article for reference.

Some people probably already knew this:

This is also how a web page or application such as your banking app knows you put in the correct password; it does not have the password stored as if the service stored the password then someone could steal the firm’s file containing all of the passwords from every customer and immediately break into everyone’s account. Instead the site computes a hash against what you type and, if it matches what it has stored you typed the right password because cryptographically no other string of characters will produce the same result. Note that the original password itself is never stored at all and it is impossible for the password to be determined from the hash; it operates only one way and thus you can determine the former and current desired thing matches but never, from the hash, determine what the password is.

Denninger uses that as part of an explanation for how the data from the cameras is captured and saved even though they say it gets destroyed after seven days. Hashes play a role.

One point, among many others:

If we allow this to continue it will never end and the lookback will be permanent for the rest of our and our family’s lives. This data is now and will in the future be used to disadvantage you – to price insurance, to price goods and services (you pay more at Lowes because you didn’t go to Home Depot two blocks away first to comparison shop, since both have said cameras in their parking lots!) and more. This is the very reason these companies have the market value they do today.

This is not the American, capitalist system. It is on its way to being a communist scoring system that controls multiple aspects of our lives.

Gail Combs

And that is why the stores never put the prices on the goods any more.

bakocarl

Today, for some reason, I had a sudden and strong desire to get outside into the sunshine. Maybe it was because the temperatures have retreated from their daily 110°F highs back down into the 90’s, or maybe some other inner drive. But there it was.

So out I go, 20 feet to the sidewalk in full sun, where, in spite of some small gains in the strength department, I’m struck with the constant companions of verticality – unsteadiness and weakness – and an even stronger desire to retreat to the solidity and security of my chair.

In just moments later, however, the idea that I needed that daily time in the sun led to a plan to devote some time each day to just sitting in a chair in the back yard, soak up all the sunshine I can.

And so I’ve just spent an initial short time in the sun to start . . . longer later as the temperatures become more temperate. I think this is very, very needed and beneficial.

Sunlit Sanctuary

Upon the grass I take my seat,
Beneath the sky so wide and blue,
The golden sun, so pure and sweet,
Embraces me with light anew.

Its rays cascade in liquid gold,
They kiss my skin with gentle fire,
A song no winter’s breath can hold,
That lifts my soul, a golden choir.

My bones drink deep of living light,
My blood runs clean, my spirit free;
D’s precious gift, soft, pure, and bright,
Restores my weary frame to me.

Here stillness blooms, a sacred space,
Where cares dissolve like morning mist;
My heart finds rest in this embrace,
My every breath becomes a tryst.

O gift of God, this radiant sphere,
That floods the earth with life and grace,
A dreamland spun of gold and cheer,
Where heaven leans to touch my face.

So let me linger, bathed in day,
While shadows flee and time stands still;
In sunshine’s arms I softly pray,
And drink the beauty of God’s Will.

I went out with #1 to help him with his golf game this morning. The heat index was already over 90 on its way to 100. The sun was shining. We worked on his swing and putting for over an hour. I had no hat – forgot it. Oh well. I do not use sunscreen ever. I figured I might sunburn.

Nope. Funny how when you go Keto and use good supplements things seem to get better. Former white spots from lack of pigmentation from age are now gone, gone, gone.

The light of the sun is a God given gift of life. We are in sync with the world we have been given when we link our living around the gifts and presence of God.

Carl’s words eminded me that we already have a screen room that faces the southwest where we can observe the sunsets. I am going to use it more than ever even this fall and winter. I need to “feel the sun on my face.”

BREAKING: Judge Rules Kirk Assassin Tyler Robinson Will Stand Trial as Robinson’s Attorney Smears Charlie Kirk During Pre-Trial Hearing (VIDEO)

Judge Tony Graf on Tuesday evening ruled that Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson will stand trial.

Judge Graf rejected objections from Robinson’s attorneys during Tuesday’s preliminary hearing.

Robinson can receive the death penalty, the judge ruled.

Tyler Robinson was back in court on Tuesday as closing arguments got underway in a preliminary hearing nearly one year after he assassinated Charlie Kirk.

Utah prosecutors on Tuesday argued that Tyler Robinson killed Charlie Kirk “because he disagreed with him.”

“He did it by firing a high-powered rifle into a group of thousands who surrounded Charlie Kirk literally on all sides. And he, like any rational person, knew that that would create a great risk of death to all those around Charlie Kirk in the event of any one of a number of likely possibilities,” Deputy Utah County Attorney Ryan McBride said.

Tyler Robinson’s attorney trashed Charlie Kirk during the preliminary hearing.

“Mr. Kirk spoke hatefully of certain groups of people. He spoke hatefully of people who don’t have traditional norm-conforming gender identities. He spoke hatefully of people who are not strictly heterosexual,” Robinson’s attorney Richard Novak said

“We all know, because we live in the real world, the kinds of things that Mr. Kirk said. Which some people find hateful,” he added.

…Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Robinson was charged with:

– Count 1: Aggravated murder (capital offense)

– Count 2: Felony reckless discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury

– Count 3: Felony obstruction of justice for hiding the firearm

– Count 4: Felony obstruction of justice for discarding the clothing he wore during the shooting

– Count 5: Witness tampering for asking roommate to delete incriminating messages

– Count 6: Witness tampering for demanding trans roommate stay silent, and not speak to police

– Count 7: Commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child…

Thanks for checking.

I’m sure you all have heard that Mark Carney said that Canada will not negotiate until Americans stop meme-ing about the whole thing. That was a VERY dumb thing to say.

Game on! This is hysterical:

TheseTruths

Asking Americans to stop memeing…🤣🤣🤣

Aubergine

Right!?

The Meme Wars have begun.

Valerie Curren

That is hilarious!!!!

OK, the upshot from doctor visit —

Ankle divot has lost 1/3 of its length and 1/3 of its width over last two weeks. Continuing same regimen for another two weeks.

Aubergine

Well, that’s good news!

TheseTruths

Looks like a good report! Thanks for the update. 🙏

Unfortunately, the doctor has jury duty two weeks from today, so there’s this “continuity of care” issue….so I volunteered to visit her at the jury facility in hopes she can get a spare couple of minutes…..

That got a good round of chuckles from her and her assistants.

Reminds me of a discussion I once had with my cousin (who is a year-and-a-half younger). As you may recall, I skipped second grade and was usually the youngest person in my grade.

So, he and I were talking about drivers’ licenses, and he commented that it was a bummer that he was going to be driving through most of High School, getting his license as a Freshman much sooner than I would. On the other hand, I’d only get licensed really late, when I was a Senior.

I replied that was going to be ok, ’cause I’d have him to be able to drive me around.

I just rode my horse. The local Ice Cream Parlor actually had a place to put him (It was also a dairy farm.)

There is a city in SoCal, Norco, where they have horse lanes on the streets (instead of bike lanes).

Gail Combs

Our local town BARRED horses thanks to an idiot cop who managed to get a rider killed.

By contrast —

North Carolina has:

Best Places To Ride In Southern Pines

Southern Pines, North Carolina, is a small rural suburb with a big reputation for equestrian events and top-tier places to ride.

Yellow Frame Farm in Southern Pines actually had Prince Phillip compete in their carriage driving 3 day event. However good luck finding that information though since the farm has been sold off.

Norco even has some local celebrities — it’s where the Disneyland horses actually live (they have to commute into the park).

They used to have dedicated grounds and stables at Disneyland, but those facilities are now under Star Wars Land.

My oldest son attended Henry Ford Academy for his first HS year. It was on the grounds of Greenfield Villiage/The Henry Ford Museum (meetings took place in a slightly smaller scale replica of Independence Hall). The horses used in Greenfield Villiage were on adjacent grounds & nearby were where they played soccer, so I could see the horses when picking him up after practice.
