Should We Be Skeptical of Industry and Media Denials of Use of Graphene Family Nanomaterials in Vaccines?

At this point, I don’t really know the answer to this question. I’ve only been studying it for a few hours. However, given the sordid track record of the Faucisphere in government, the duplicitous alien planet Big Pharma, and that wonderful global organization of medical liars and policy-reversing Tedros types, the United Nations of China, I’m not feeling like giving these sneaky profiteers a clean bill of health just yet.

Let’s just say that I’m still collating.

As both American government and American / Western corporations increasingly act like their Chinese counterparts, I expect to see dog-killing treats with little “Made in the USA” graphics on them very soon, unless we bring the Great Fake Election and Virus Scam of 2020 to a very “judicious” close.

It was only tonight, that I had ever even HEARD of the idea of graphene or its derivatives in vaccines.

This HAD to be a conspiracy theory, I thought. NO. FUCKING. WAY.

Seriously. My immediate thought was “no way”. That would be like putting little molecular razor blades in the little biomolecular apples known as cells. Who the hell would do that shit?

And YES – when I went looking for information about the toxicity of graphene and friends, sure enough, there is a TON of information about it.

If you read that article, you will see that “molecular razor blade” is indeed just ONE of the ways that graphene and coconspirators damage cells, organs, organelles, and anything else that gets in their way.

It’s not like one might not expect that, given that graphene is a bit like asbestos and other inorganic particulates, only flatter and sharper, but you never know – maybe there are windows of low toxicity where things are OK, or at least BETTER. Indeed, such variable CURVES of toxicity are hinted at in the paper above, dependent on the size of the razor blades.

Science! It works! When you’re honest, of course, but if so….. it works!

But back to FAUCISM and why I don’t exactly trust the current “situation”.

After I was sure this stuff actually HAD toxicity issues that one might reasonably expect, I went looking to verify that this business about putting it in vaccines was just a nutty conspiracy theory.

And sure enough, a helpful “ABMG” type (associate of Bill and Melinda Gates- reference HERE) from New York and Forbes magazine assures us that NO – all the conspiracy theories about “graphene oxide” in the Pfizer COVID vaccine are exactly that – DUMB conspiracy theories.

The problem, if you go read this, is that the denial falls a bit flat. As in VERY flat. It reminds me of a variety of failed debunkings. It’s very much like a “Snopes evasion”, if you are familiar with those.

It’s nothing like the following:

“Pfizer kindly gave us three sample vials of their vaccine, which we were allowed to select at random from actual pharmacies and hospitals, with a letter of authorization from the head of Pfizer vaccines. We took these to an independent laboratory skilled in the determination of biopharmaceuticals and nanomaterials, including graphene and its derivatives. Not only were there no components that are not listed on the Pfizer and CDC websites – there was no detectable graphene of any kind, when subjected to known methods of isolating graphenes.”

See? An answer like THAT is “game over”, as Scott here likes to say.

Instead, the answer I got was basically a recounting of the true but mostly irrelevant fact that Jane Ruby is highly unqualified to talk in a deep and expert way about a lot of the things she talks about ANYWAY.

To which I say…..

“Yes, this is true. Back to the question. Please. They aren’t putting this stuff in the vaccines – ARE THEY?”

So I keep reading…… to which I then say…..

“Yes, it sounds like this is a conspiracy theory, and the people who say that the vaccine is 99% graphene oxide – obviously ludicrous – are almost certainly spouting bullshit. But I don’t care about that. ARE THEY putting this stuff in vaccines?”

So I keep reading, and the proof boils down to trusting that the ingredient list that Pfizer originally gave to CDC and FDA doesn’t include graphene oxide, and that Pfizer would never lie to CDC or FDA, because they would get in trouble.

Of course, just because CDC lies like crazy, and FDA is horribly political, and BOTH are beneficiaries of these vaccines, wouldn’t affect what they might say.

Nor the fact that this IS an experimental vaccine where they don’t actually include the list of ingredients in the package for some weird reason, like maybe they would be lying if they did.

I mean, the Fauci People are mostly honest, mostly.

Well, I didn’t get a good answer from the debunking. So I looked elsewhere. THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

A vaccine that keeps pumping out vaccine for 30 days after you inject it? Holy shit!

A vaccine that stabilizes messenger RNA at body temperature? Holy shit!

A vaccine that can migrate (“translational efficiency”) to the lymph nodes? Holy shit!

Now don’t get me wrong – this is great stuff. This is cancer-curing stuff – using mRNA and hydrogels and adjuvants and graphene oxide – gotta love it. You get CANCER – you might like this stuff.

Of course, if you get that cancer from a graphene oxide-containing vaccine for coronavirus, that might be a different story, but who is gonna profit on both ends of THAT equation? Don’t be silly! Insurance will mostly pay for it, mostly.

Yeah, you know what I’m sayin’.

And what’s REALLY interesting here is how LONG this vaccine lasts, when you use this graphene oxide stuff. I mean, it lasts a LONG TIME. And migrates, too! Even better than the old lipid nanoparticle technology!

Which just kinda seems a lot like the way the Pfizer vaccine lasts a long time in people’s bodies, and now even LONGER on the shelf, maybe TOO long in the body, which is good for gene therapy or cancer treatment, but bad for a disease vaccine, but let’s just ignore that alleged motivation for using a less safe new tech for a vaccine.

What I find interesting is how this graphene oxide stuff seems to STABILIZE the mRNA. Wow! Would that help an mRNA vaccine survive higher temperatures in normal refrigerators, like Pfizer does now?

Silly me just wondering aloud. It’s called a “hypothesis”.

And would Fauci and CDC actually TELL us if they changed the formulation just a little bit?

You see where I’m at?

And it gets worse, because graphenes cause symptoms a lot like COVID in the lungs, but – no – I don’t even want to go there. THAT is really kinda conspiracy theory. Let’s just stick to the simple question.

Is. Anybody. Using. Graphene, graphene oxide, or whatever. In COVID vaccines?

You know what? I don’t know. And I don’t trust government, industry or media to tell us the truth.

Because they all now ACT just like we’re in China. I mean, state media supports state industry.

Thanking everybody for your patience. Whether happenstance, coincidence, or enemy action, I’m dealing with some technical issues. In addition to those, and the obvious spiritual attacks, I am dealing with the obvious site stuff in what are best maintained as unobvious ways.

I suspect we struck a nerve.

A combined technical / spiritual / strategic response by all of us will prevent this attack from succeeding. Hold the line – bite the bullet – gird the loins – bite the lip – pray for guidance, discernment, and strength – whatever YOU believe keeps the ship aright for the moment. Everything else is lower priority.

Deplorable Patriot suggests the following. I am not about to argue.

In that spirit, the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel from Tuesday’s threads, and the Breastplate of St. Patrick, not to mention the Litany of Humility are favorites recommended by exorcists in spiritual warfare.

I am now going to explain a bit more about what is going on. That will be the THIRD message. But I will post the above immediately and UPDATE during the next few hours, so that those who are locked out will understand and follow the procedure starting with COMMENTING ON THE U TREE.

Now, I’m going to explain SOME of what is going on.

I start off by explaining the somewhat unusual security requirements of this site.

Our PURPOSE – stated fairly clearly from the beginning – is to provide a way for the GRASSROOTS – YOU – to post your thinking – CLEARLY – thanks to FREE SPEECH – where it can be seen by all. We don’t REALLY have secrets here – other than what is needed to preserve our freedom of speech. Thus, I don’t spend a lot of time doing that crap.

Obviously, we become a THORN in people’s sides, but I hope that this THORN is attached to one immortal CROWN, from which we HUMBLY DEFEND TRUTH.

See? It’s all a matter of perspective.

Anyway, during the recent friction (I’ll be kind) between various posters, I was made aware of certain (I’ll be kind again) “mischaracterizations” of posts and comments on this site.

In the course of this – and I do thank all who opined both openly and privately – it became clear that these mischaracterizations are not only an unacceptable danger to this site and our free speech – but they are related – in ways which may be innocent, but are not necessarily so – to other extremely consequential mischaracterizations.

NOW – here is where it gets REALLY interesting.

At that time I was paying attention to a growing security problem in the WordPress world, which has affected many sites – the “spam registration problem”.

We love our LURKERS – including those good and honest people who make sure our GRASSROOTS VIEWS are promptly and accurately reported to other good and honest people. Some of these lurkers are likely even a bit automated – frankly, we don’t really care. We’re the news now, so to speak, and people automate that stuff. It’s a fact.

Now there may be BAD LURKERS, too, but that just comes with the territory. Right? Shouldn’t be that much of a problem. If they don’t actually interfere with us, why should I care?

Whether people are carbon-based or silicon-based lurkers, we don’t really mind them registering on the site, either, so that they can be “subscribers”. That’s fine with me.

The problem for me was mostly that the volume of lurkers got bigger and bigger and bigger. That was bad, but livable.

However, more recently, things got STRANGE.

I started seeing a real uptick in RUSSIAN subscribers. Yeah, those annoying Russians. Just like DOJ, it’s pretty hard to say WHOSE SIDE they’re really on. Right? It’s like Star Trek or Babylon 5. Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians and Bejorans – or however you spell these names. They’re all just TROUBLE.

The thing is, the NUMBERS – sheesh – they were OUT OF CONTROL. I mean, it was bad. Actually, it was worse. It was EMBARRASSING. An EMBARRASSINGLY large number of weird Russian accounts following us.

But then I got to thinking about TIMING. Why right now?

And how do I KNOW if they’re really Russians? They could be anybody. False attribution is what everybody does. And even “real” attribution can have false intent.

BUT – one thing was clear. It LOOKED LIKE Russians.

So whoever was doing it, Russian or not, WANTED it to look like a whole bunch of Russians were following this site.

You startin’ to see what I’m sayin’?

And this is all on July 4th. I was seriously getting the impression that DODGE and FIB had been hoping for more “actionable riling up of us Deplorables” on July 4, and they weren’t getting it. Where “action” could be anything – provocation, intimidation, influence, control, STFU – whatever.

Now there was some other information I got that was really quite useful here, which nature I don’t want to get into, but I was starting to see some connections – NO MATTER WHAT. Whether it was a PLOT, or people just tipping HANDS, or just people displaying signs of INFLUENCE – something stunk about ALL this stuff happening at the same time.

SO – on the TECHNICAL FRONT – I decided to deploy one of the many wonderful solutions which are now available for this problem of phony and bot registrations.

On the SPIRITUAL FRONT – I decided to ASK FOR HELP – from all of YOU – and you all really came through. I want to particularly thank Sadie, who saw that the spiritual attack was such a large component of this.

And on the SITE POLICY FRONT – I decided that misrepresentations of posts or comments are not tolerable, and must be dealt with by a policy OTHER than “letting things just work out” – my primary weapon. We simply can’t put up with it.

Beyond this, I went through a little exercise of “gathering bona fides” – which was enough for me to feel comfortable with where things are now. I will NOT let this site or the people here be BETRAYED. This is not to say that I don’t have a certain amount of sympathy for MAGA Mom. I do.

Like I always tell people, my mother lived through Hitler. These times are very similar. We all have to make difficult decisions, that may put us on opposite sides.

ANYWAY, I figured that the combination of ENDING THIS CRAP and DISCLOSURE (which is what I’m doing now) would fix things – at least temporarily – for our little site.

Now here is where it gets even more interesting. And one might say that this is useful information from the “grassroots” for our special HONEST lurkers.

It opens lovely, it stays lovely. Beautiful fragrance, color, and texture. Taste is that hard-to-find light sweetness with a pleasant tartness. It looks like D’autrefois winery is quite new, just 20 years old. FOOD BROWN OUTS AND MEAT TAXES?

If you live in a more rural area, as opposed to a metropolitan area, you might have been noticing empty shelves on occasion. In the urban areas, things seem much the same–for now. I was shopping at a Sam’s Club in a suburban area and found this below. Hydrogen Peroxide out of stock. Those bottles below are not Hydrogen Peroxide. And Sam’s has a limit, one per customer, please.

Since when is Hydrogen peroxide a precious commodity?

I have also noticed it being very scarce in places like Walmart and other grocery stores. Stock up, people. HP is a cheap lifesaver. The two links give a good idea of why we should all have a good stock of it on hand.

I see this as “offense is the best defense”. The commies got PINCHED by pushback against the FBI – so they PUSH FORWARD with a new stratagem. Nancy knows that far too many people see her as the Jussie Smollett of January Sixth. Gotta do something about that. FIB would be the normal mechanism of federal bullying of patriots.

But FIB has it’s own problems there.

You see, it is my belief that Pernicious FIB was taking too much HEAT for going after patriots DIRECTLY, and I’m sure that state and local LE have had their fill of this political bullshit.

I’m guessing that FIB recruitment is taking a BIG HIT.

Wray’s ability to cut off Pelosi from using FBI to go after ALL the Trump supporters in DC – an agency-killing folly – comes from his owning the “D’Alesandro Dossier” on her and her father.

FBI showing Pelosi that they had goods on her, was the answer to the mystery covered by the 4th post of the Buffalo Jump series. Clearly Wray has bought some independence from Pelosi with those old records on her father’s mafia ties and pussyfooting with Moscow, of which he only showed a “clean taste”.

So we see some discomfort amongst the plotters against Trump.

Kinzinger made a very dangerous claim in that interview. It’s dangerous enough that he needs to start flashing some receipts if he has them – because while claiming a politician “incited” a Jan. 6th-style is serious enough, claiming they actually took part in planning it is much worse, and shouldn’t be alleged without some cold, hard proof.

In short, regarding the allegation members of Congress knew in advance what would happen, Kinzinger needs to put up or shut up. It’s just that simple.

Now – it is basically known that in these “Goebbels battles”, which traditionally start by the perpetrator accusing back when the heat gets close, the perpetrator is essentially inoculated by the falsely directed accusation and saved by the confusion. The act of “media-required denial” is then shifted to the righteous accuser rather than the guilty perpetrator.

And with New York Slimes as the media, you KNOW this is not the truth – this is backing up of Democrat LIES.

BUT Sister STILL makes a great point for BOTH sides. Show the receipts.

My job is speculating what kind of receipts exist and where they might be, based on observations.

Personally, I don’t think that a dumb putz like Kinzinger would be involved in the deep planning and preparation of the January Sixth frame job. HOWEVER, the degree of panic he is showing here leads me to believe that he was aware of what was going to happen.

He is – in my opinion – showing consciousness of guilt.

He KNEW there would be a frame-up of Trump on that day, so that he could ACT in ways that would lead the Congressional crowd in the directions it needed to go.

Now I don’t have receipts beyond “body language”, but I’m fairly certain his accusation MUST contain the full weight of his own guilt. So let’s read it.

NYT: Do you suspect that some members of Congress were aware of what was going to happen that day and supported it?

Kinzinger: I won’t name names, but yes, I do have that suspicion. I will say, if you just looked at Twitter — the whole reason I brought my gun and kept my staff home and told my wife to stay in the apartment was looking at Twitter. I saw the threats. When Lauren Boebert — I will call her out by name — tweeted “Today is 1776,” I don’t know what that meant other than this is the time for revolution. Maybe it was a dumb tweet that she didn’t mean. Fine. I’ll give her that credit for now. But if you have members of Congress who were involved in nurturing an insurrection, heck yeah, we need to know.

Now, I won’t speak for Sister Toldjah here, nor for Lauren Boebert, and especially not for RINO Kinzinger, but I can very well speak for myself as an “insurrectionist” (OY VEY) in the crowd that day.

WE WERE DENIED OUR RIGHTEOUS AND PEACEFUL PROTEST. And we were denied our right by the creeps who set up the violence.

Most of us DID in fact protest peacefully, and we were DENIED THAT TRUTH by the fake news media, which is basically the Democrat press.

Guess what? ALL OF US expected a BIG PROTEST. We indeed hoped to YELL so that they would hear us inside. We wanted to CHEER and throw our hats in the air when Mike Pence sent those crooked votes back to the state legislatures.

Which of course didn’t happen, because, like most of the others, Mike Pence was in on the SCAM. Not necessarily knowing the whole thing, but FAILING TO DO HIS DUTY just like all the others who conspired by action or inaction to deny Trump his rightful victory, and to deny US our rightful President.

If everybody just shrugged off their DUTY, it would work. That is how the scam worked.

A STRIKE by government.

A STRIKE against the PEOPLE.

Pathetic.

Anyway, Kinzinger is pathetic, too. He likely will never have to answer with jail time for being an accessory before the fact, mostly because, IMO, he surely didn’t do much other than play along with Nancy Gambino’s charade.

Yeah, he didn’t go running to the FBI and telling them about THEIR PLOT. LOL. Yeah, really. Hilarious. And that is the REALITY in which we live. Don’t go telling the FBI about crime it FAVORS.

But to accuse Lauren Boebert? That’s LOW. That’s really low.

And I agree with Sister Toldjah. RINO Kinzinger – for his own good – had best not FALSELY ACCUSE. When I accuse him of things, I truly BELIEVE my accusations. Enough to take them back when I have contradictory evidence.

Indeed, if I were RINO Kinzinger’s lawyer, I could truthfully argue that he deserves no punishment for being in on “Barr’s shrugging coup” of Donald Trump. These people are perfectly within their RIGHTS to not do their jobs or their duties – to “take a dive” – and even to conspire for what might be regarded as “legally permissible injustices”. Otherwise known as politics.

But to try to paint Lauren Boebert as anything other than a law-abiding American patriot?

It’s a good thing GOD is GOD and not me, because I’d seriously think about TORCHING that fucker with a lightning bolt. His LYING MOUTH deserves nothing less.

And I think that Nancy “Jussie” Pelosi knows EXACTLY THAT – and is adopting a policy of CHALLENGING STATES.

Nor can I find the article where people spotted the significance, but somebody figured out that “antifa red + proud boys yellow = orange = CIA color revolution” – and while I didn’t really buy that at first, once I saw the very phony tweet about dreaming orange, I figured – yeah, there is big bogus stuff going on with Ali.

BUT HERE IS THE KICKER.

I believe that Ali’s part of the plot was KNOWN and blessed by the RINOs in the GOP.

Just take a closer look at this tweet we saw earlier.

When I saw this tweet, way back then, I believed that Ali Alexander really was chiding the GOP brass who did such a piss-poor job of defending Trump.

But that is NOT what I believe now.

I believe that Ali Alexander was intentionally distancing himself from another party in the plot – the GOP RINOs. The McCain faction. The Decepticons. The Establishment.

Ali Alexander, Ali Akbar, whatever, was THROWING COVER on the GOP.

See how that works to destroy Trump’s movement? The GOP brass DRAGGED THEIR FEET and DRAGGED THEIR ASSES on election fraud (other than collecting money), so that we would feel unable to do anything, and thus latch on to STOP THE STEAL – the FAKE life preserver.

It’s EVIL GENIUS. It’s designed to not just get Trump, but get rid of his movement as well.

I’m not going to state that Ronna is a bad girl here. It’s a possibility, but who knows? I don’t have evidence of that. But something stinks here. Sure, Ali could have been trying to scam the GOP for money, but I don’t think so. I think he was giving them cover.

There Is No Constitutional Duty To Defend Bolshevism

What we are seeing now, with “woke Generals”, political purges in the military, and various “letters of warning” to the current administration and its military collaborators in the Pentagram – whoops – I mean Pentagon – coming from a lot of current and ex-military, is evidence that we are finally talking about the core of the issue.

Does our military have to defend a communist takeover?

Personally, I don’t think so. “But that’s just my opinion”, as they say.

This cuts to the CORE of why the Bolshevism-defending FBI targeted the “Oathkeepers”. That group is the least nebulous and most well-defined group of military and/or law enforcement who LITERALLY hold to the idea of defending the Constitution – based on TRUTH – from communist infiltrators who got into power through LIES and CHEATING.

Nobody wants to talk about what’s really going on, but we are almost there.

That poor kid. If only he knew that HE was right and the ENTIRE US MILITARY was wrong.

I’ve had an entire lifetime to adjust to the treason. I was only in my 20’s when I was exposed to stuff that shouldn’t have even EXISTED. The letter comes after Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley defended the teaching of critical race theory in the military during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on Wednesday.

Former President Donald Trump blasted Milley as “pathetic” for defending the toxic ideology during an interview Friday morning on Newsmax.  

“General Milley – I watched his statements and it was pathetic. I watched the statements of some others – your head of the Navy. It was pathetic,” Trump said. “They didn’t talk that way when I was around, I can tell you. They didn’t talk that way or I would have gotten rid of them in two minutes. In particular Navy and Milley, just sad, pathetic statements,” the former president added.

“My lawyer has given me names of books and movies to help me see what life is like for others in our country. I’ve learned that even though we live in a wonderful country things still need to improve. People of all colors should feel as safe as I do to walk down the street.”

That passage is part book report, part white privilege mea culpa submitted to a federal court this month by Anna Morgan-Lloyd, one of the more than 500 Americans arrested for her involvement in the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. The 49-year-old grandmother of five from southern Indiana was charged with four counts of trespassing and disorderly conduct even though she walked through an open door and was inside the building for about five minutes. She was ratted out to the FBI by a county worker who saw her January 6 posts on Facebook.

On Wednesday, Lloyd, who has a clean criminal record, pleaded guilty to one count of “parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building”—but not before she consented to undergo a reeducation exercise at the urging of her court-appointed lawyer. (Like many January 6 defendants, Lloyd does not have the means to hire a private attorney.)

It’s safe to say Heather Shaner, a D.C.-based criminal defense attorney representing a handful of January 6 protesters, does not share the political beliefs of her Capitol clients, which is why she’s forcing them to read books and watch movies highlighting dark chapters in U.S. history.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Shaner explained her belief that “this is the most wonderful country in the world, it’s been great for all kinds of immigrant groups, except for the fact that it was born of genocide of the Native Americans and the enslavement of people.” 

Shaner’s legal captives are learning the hard way what the government will do when one resists their commands to comply. Not only have their personal lives been shattered, finances depleted, and reputations destroyed by an abusive Justice Department investigation, Shaner’s clients must be indoctrinated with leftist propaganda about America’s alleged systemic racism.

The purge of the populist mindset is underway, courtesy of the fetid Beltway judicial system and the Joe Biden regime. Judges routinely lecture January 6 defendants about the wrongthink of a “stolen election” while prosecutors openly mock their political beliefs, including home schooling and gun ownership.

“I have had many political and ethical discussions with Anna Lloyd,” Shaner wrote in her motion agreeing to the plea and probation for Lloyd. “I tendered a booklist to her. She has read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Just Mercy, and Schindler’s List to educate herself about ‘government policy’ toward Native Americans, African Americans and European Jews. We have discussed the books and also about the responsibility of an individual when confronting ‘wrong.’”

Joseph Bolanos was a pillar of his community. President of his Upper West Side block association for the past 23 years, he looked out for his neighbors during the pandemic. He dropped off masks and kept extra heaters in his rent-controlled apartment for seniors. He raised morale with a weekly street dance to show his support for essential workers. 

A Red Cross volunteer after the 9/11 attacks, the 69-year-old security consultant once received a police commendation for heroism after saving a woman from being mugged. 

Unmarried, and caring for his 94-year-old mother, he was a well-loved character in the quiet residential area. 

But now his neighbors think he is a domestic terrorist. 

Yes, he attended then-President Donald Trump’s rally in Washington, DC, on Jan. 6, but he never entered the Capitol. He was in a friend’s room at the JW Marriott a 30-minute walk away when the Capitol breach occurred. 

Nonetheless, he was raided in February by the FBI anti-terrorism task force, handcuffed, paraded and detained for three hours while his apartment was ransacked and all his devices confiscated. Four months later, he hasn’t been charged and doesn’t have his devices back, but his neighbors are shunning him, and he’s had two strokes from the stress.

One of the really big shockers for me has been the relationship of the tech giants to the bat coronavirus researchers. What the heck is up with that?

Why did Zuckerberg and Chan (after COVID “struck”) fund Baric, who worked with “the bat woman” and Wuhan? It smells every bit like a “book deal” – an influence pay-off after the fact. This would lead me to believe that Zuck and Chan and Baric actually go back FURTHER, in ways that have not appeared yet.

Now, I had just heard about all of these monetary connections now being discovered, and thought that any relationship between the tech giants and these virus creeps had to be connected to the FAKE ELECTION PLOT.

These tech tyrants may have had ANOTHER motive. A DEEPER and MORE PERSONAL motive.

Wanting to live forever – or at least LONGER.

And it gets BIGGER – as in all of society – as in FITNESS – as in EUGENICS.

Bats Are an Untapped System for Understanding Microbiome Evolution in Mammals

BAT MICROBES CAN SHED LIGHT ON DISEASE, IMMUNITY, AND LONGEVITY

Bats and their microbes are increasingly recognized as important components of zoonotic disease cycles (37, 38). A few studies have identified potentially pathogenic members of the excreted bat microbiome such as Bartonella spp. (39, 40) and Leptospira spp. (41). Bats are also known or suspected to be the reservoir of several viruses that are lethal to humans, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Ebola, and rabies viruses (42,–44), as well as of Plasmodium parasites closely related to those in rodents that are used as models to study malaria (45). Genomic insights have generated plausible explanations for how bats may have evolved to harbor such deadly microbes (e.g., reference 46), but in spite of abundant evidence that the microbiome interfaces directly with the host immune system (47, 48), there has not yet been an integrative study addressing whether microbial symbionts contribute to bats’ innate ability to act as pathogen reservoirs. As an additional axis of variation, bats which have flexible roosting habits can be found in close proximity to humans and may potentially swap microbes with humans and their companion animals (49). Bats may transfer microbes to livestock when they exist in close proximity (e.g., pigs consuming partially eaten fruits dropped by fruit bats [50]) or use the same habitats (e.g., horses coming into contact with bat droppings in pastures [51]). Studying bat microbiomes would therefore have obvious public health implications and could help to explain the epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases.

Similar avenues of research can also consider what impact, if any, the host microbiome has on susceptibility of bats to white nose syndrome (WNS), a frequently fatal cutaneous infection that has reduced hibernating bat populations by up to 90% in North America (52). Because not all individuals are killed by the infection, there may be selection on the skin microbiomes of surviving individuals to become enriched with antifungal bacteria. Indeed, one study discovered that in WNS-positive populations, the skin microbiome of bats was enriched with Rhodococcus and Pseudomonas spp., which are known to have antifungal activity (53). Additional studies in this area can answer the questions of how exactly these bacteria inhibit the growth of the causative agent of WNS and what enrichment of the microbiome with these bacteria might mean for the long-term survival of affected host populations.

Bat microbiomes can be used more generally to understand the links between the microbiome and the evolution of other phenomena of interest, such as immunity and longevity. To date, studies addressing the link between host aging and the microbiome in humans and lab animals have uncovered direct links between microbial metabolic products and life span of the host (54). Bats represent an exciting system in which to test for links between the microbiome and aging because they are exceptionally long-lived for a mammal of their size (55, 56). Mice are conventional model mammals, but the commonly used BALB/c mouse strain has a life span of about a year and half, making studies of longevity in these animals rather short-lived (57). Bats of comparable mass can achieve life spans of up to 40 years, and many are philopatric to particular roosts, making repeat sampling of individuals throughout their lifetimes possible (58, 59). Because these animals’ microbiomes can be sampled nonlethally, they are inherently attractive for such studies (36). However, it is worth noting that these animals are especially sensitive to disturbance during hibernation, so experimental designs should minimize unintended disturbance of roosts, particularly in areas where white nose syndrome has decimated bat populations (60). It may also be possible to keep bats in captive colonies in order to sample them throughout successive years of their lives. Recent evidence suggests that metabolites produced by gut microbes in bats might offset the oxidative damages incurred during active flight, resulting in downstream impacts on aging (61). However, many questions still remain. By what mechanism does the microbiome help to extend life span, and is this pattern consistent across mammals? How does interindividual variation impact the relationships between longevity and microbiome community structure? We believe that studies of bat microbiomes can help to answer these important questions and more.Go to:

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Bats represent an untapped resource for understanding microbiome evolution in mammals. Because of their exceptional diversity, longevity, and ecological importance, we believe that studies of their microbial symbionts will reveal exciting new roles for microbes in driving host evolution and fitness and may help us to better understand the dynamics of emerging zoonotic pathogens. We provide applications of bat microbiome research in the hopes that more researchers will realize the potential that this system has to offer. Multi-omics approaches can be used to parse apart the contributions of host genome, metagenome, and microbial metabolites to the processes described above, and as the costs of these methods continue to decrease, such studies will only become more feasible. The results of studying bat microbiomes using these approaches will undeniably advance the fields of host-microbe interactions, comparative physiology, and public health.

The World Goes Bats: Living Longer and Tolerating Viruses

Abstract

For centuries, people believed that bats possessed sinister powers. Bats are thought to be ancestral hosts to many deadly viruses affecting humans including Ebola, rabies, and most recently SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. However, bats themselves tolerate these viruses without ill effects. The second power that bats have is their longevity. Bats live much longer than similar-sized land mammals. Here we review how bats’ ability to control inflammation may be contributing to their longevity. The underlying mechanisms may hold clues to developing new treatments for age-related diseases. Now may be the time to use science to exploit the secret powers of bats for human benefit.

Treatments Based on Bat Strategies

Bats have evolved multiple mechanisms to suppress inflammation, in particular by dampening nucleic acid sensing pathways. A number of pharmacological interventions targeting nucleic acid sensing pathways had already been developed. Historically, the focus has been on developing activators of these pathways to serve as antiviral or anticancer drugs (reviewed in Vanpouille-Box et al., 2019). However, with the realization that inflammation contributes to a wide range of diseases from autoimmunity to age-related conditions, the interest has shifted to developing antagonists of nucleic acid sensors (Sheridan, 2019). This proved to be a challenging task due to high level of redundancy within nucleic acid sensing pathways and the danger of increasing vulnerability to infections. Here, the information obtained from the studies of bats can assist in drug discovery (Table 1 ).

Future Perspectives

In summary, besides serving as a source of deadly diseases and harboring viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2, which caused the current pandemics, bats have a lot to offer humanity by illuminating the pathways to develop novel therapeutics to treat age-related conditions and promote longevity. Already studies of the altered innate immune responses in bats point to several classes of small molecules, some of which have links to aging. However, we can only see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding how bats deal with inflammation, and clearly more studies are warranted. This is also true for other hallmarks of aging, which are still minimally explored. In addition to finding small molecules targeting specific pathways that can be tested in humans, it will be of interest to engineer specific bat alterations in mice and determine whether this leads to enhanced lifespan and healthspan.

Bats have evolved skewed, and ultimately successful, strategies to experience longer and healthier lives, even if this is a secondary outcome of selection for responses to viral infections and/or the dramatic range of metabolic states that accompany periods of flight and torpor. Humans in the last century have created a lifestyle that has gone bats; we live in high densities and (many of us) travel extensively, enhancing exposure to and spread of pathogens. By embracing “batty” strategies to deal with the challenges that our new lifestyle presents, we may be able to solve what look to be the two biggest medical challenges of the 21st century: the rise of viral pandemics and the ever-increasing prevalence of chronic diseases that all share aging as their biggest risk factor.Go to:
